MGM+ Drops High-Stakes Trailer for The Institute Season 2

[ShawnDK]

MGM+ has released the Season 2 trailer for The Institute, the hit thriller-horror series adapted from Stephen King's 2019 bestselling novel.

Joe Freeman (Luke Ellis), Ben Barnes (Tim Jamieson), and Mary-Louise Parker (Ms. Sigsby) all return. Game of Thrones alum Alfie Allen joins the cast as the new villain, tech billionaire Nolan Reeves, who uses advanced surveillance and corporate tech to help the Director rebuild the shattered Institute.

Because Season 1 covered the main events of King's novel, Season 2 will venture into entirely new territory beyond the source material.

The second season is scheduled to premiere on November 8, on MGM+.

While King's novel came out before Stranger Things, and that's said to be a "love letter" to his works, The Institute (unfortunately) comes off as a copy. I liked it, but the whole reluctant teen hero/ Chosen One trope is a bit worn out now. Its not the writers'/producers' fault, but come on....even the lead character's name (Luke) is a reminder of another gifted "Chosen One"...Luke Skywalker. Unlike Eleven, who got her powers from prenatal exposure to Project MK Ultra experiments and drugs, Luke seems to have been born with his.  Still, it was nice to see Mary-Louise Parker back on screen again. Be interesting to see where the new season goes since its not leaning on the source material this go round.
