  1. Are movie studios starting to shy away from the San Diego Comic-Con? The question comes to mind as Deadline is reporting that movie studios such as Sony, Universal, Warner Bros. DC film studio and Lionsgate will not be attending the convention. Studios currently set to be attending are Disney/Marvel, Paramount and New Line. No reason for Universal, Warner Bros DC film studio or Lionsgate to not be attending but Sony does have their hands full with Spider-Man: Far From Opening opening next week and Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood upcoming on July 26th. Their promo teams have events set up for the whole year with Zombieland 2: Double Tap (October 18th), Charlie’s Angels (November 15th), The Grudge (Janaury 3rd), the comic-book feature adaptation Bloodshot starring Vin Diesel (February 21st), Blumhouse’s Fantasy Island (February 28th) and, farther out, Marvel’s Morbius (July 31st, 2020).
  2. Warner Bros. has decided to hold off on the release of Wonder Woman 1984 until the Summer of 2020. The news was also confirmed by Wonder Woman 1984 star Gal Gadot via Twitter "Super excited to announce that, thanks to the changing landscape, we are able to put Wonder Woman back to its rightful home. June 5, 2020. Be there or be square!!!" “We had tremendous success releasing the first Wonder Woman film during the summer so when we saw an opportunity to take advantage of the changing competitive landscape, we did,” Warner Bros. said in a statement. “This move lands the film exactly where it belongs.” Wonder Woman 1984” will be helmed by acclaimed director Patty Jenkins, and star Gal Gadot in the title role. As previously announced, the film also stars Kristen Wiig in the role of the Super-Villain The Cheetah, as well as Pedro Pascal. And Chris Pine returns as Steve Trevor. Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, Patty Jenkins, Stephen Jones and Gal Gadot are producing the film. Rebecca Roven Oakley, Richard Suckle, Wesley Coller, Geoff Johns and Walter Hamada are the executive producers. Production will take place in Washington, D.C., Alexandria, Virginia, and in the UK, Spain and the Canary Islands.
  3. Warner Bros. is taking the next Batman movie in a new direction which will not be including Ben Affleck. The next Batman movie has been set for June 25th, 2021 and will be focusing on a younger Bruce Wayne. A search is underway for a new Dark Knight. Affleck confirmed the original report by Deadline via Twitter with the message: Excited for #TheBatman in Summer 2021 and to see @MattReevesLA vision come to life. Matt Reeves has been attached to the project as both a writer and director in February 2017, taking over for Affleck who was originally set to direct off a script he wrote with DC’s Geoff Johns. Sources have confirmed that the new Batman movie will not be based on Frank Miller’s Batman: Year One comic which is one of Reeves’ favorites in the Caped Crusader canon.

THR is reporting that Warner Bros. is looking to do a spinoff from the Aquaman movie and have hired newbie scribes Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald to pen a horror-tinged script centered on the Trench, the deadly amphibious creatures seen attacking the hero and his love, Mera, in Aquaman. Details about the plot are being kept secret but it will be set in the kingdom of the Trench and will not feature the main cast of Aquaman. The Trench creatures are new to the Aquaman lore, having been introduced in the comics only in 2011 when DC did a revamp of its entire publishing line. They are revealed to be part of the kingdom of Atlantis but when it sunk, inhabitants who were cut off from other survivors and evolved into ravenous monsters. The project, titled The Trench will be produced by James Wan and Peter Safran and will be more modestly budgeted than the normal DC superhero tentpole.
  5. Mattel, Inc. and Warner Bros. Pictures Group today announced a partnership to bring Hot Wheels®, the iconic and timeless toy racing car, to theaters in the first ever live-action feature film for the beloved multi-generational franchise. The Hot Wheels movie marks the second partnership for Mattel Films and Warner Bros. Pictures, and it follows the companies' recent announcement of the Barbie feature-film starring and co-produced by Academy Award® nominated actress Margot Robbie. Ynon Kreiz, Mattel's Chairman and CEO said: "We are excited to bring the thrill of a Hot Wheels live-action feature film to the big screen in partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures. Mattel Films has great momentum as it continues to execute on our commitment to bring global audiences new ways to experience the brands they love as we transform Mattel into an IP-driven, high-performing toy company." Hot Wheels debuted in 1968 and has sold more than six billion individual cars during its storied, 50-year history. With more than 500 million Hot Wheels being sold annually, Hot Wheels is the number one selling toy in the world.
  6. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today announced Mortal Kombat 11, the newest game in the award-winning franchise. The official Mortal Kombat 11 Announce Trailer sets the stage for an epic, time bending story and features an original music track created in collaboration with multi-platinum selling rapper 21 Savage. Mortal Kombat 11 is developed by award-winning NetherRealm Studios and is scheduled for release beginning April 23, 2019 for PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, PlayStation®4 Pro computer entertainment system, the Xbox One family of devices including the Xbox One X, Nintendo Switch™ system and PC. The song by 21 Savage featured in the trailer is titled “Immortal” and overlays scenes of an epic battle between two iconic characters, Dark Raiden and Scorpion, with a tease of a new character who is at the center of Mortal Kombat 11’s story. Mortal Kombat 11 will make its first gameplay debut at Mortal Kombat 11: The Reveal, a highly experiential, community celebration of Mortal Kombat, taking place at 11 a.m. PST on Jan. 17, 2019 in Los Angeles and 7 p.m. UTC in London. Mortal Kombat 11: The Reveal will be livestreamed globally at www.twitch.tv/NetherRealm and will feature a keynote presented by NetherRealm Studios. The event will also include the first opportunity for hands-on with Mortal Kombat 11 gameplay, tournaments and other Mortal Kombat themed activities. Mortal Kombat 11 deepens and personalizes the experience unlike ever before with an all new Custom Character Variation System that gives players the creative control of building customized versions of the character roster. In addition, the game will introduce a new cinematic story that continues the epic saga that is more than 25 years in the making. “By giving players more creative control, Mortal Kombat 11 is a testament to why this iconic franchise is so strong and increasingly relevant after more than 25 years,” said David Haddad, President, Warner Bros. All pre-orders will receive the in-game, playable character, ‘Shao Kahn’. Those who pre-order on PlayStation®4 and Xbox One, at select retailers, will also receive access to the beta, which will be available in March for those platforms.

Warner Bros. is looking to get Ewan McGregor to play the Batman villain Black Mask in the Harley Quinn spinoff, “Birds of Prey.” The studio became interested in McGregor for the role when Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jurnee Smollett-Bell joined the cast as Huntress and Black Canary. Birds of Prey will have the Huntress, Black Canary, and Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn battling Black Mask, a kingpin in Gotham City’s criminal underworld who has a fixation with masks. Rosie Perez is set to play Gotham City police detective Renee Montoya. The project is being directed by Cathy Yan and looking to premiere on February 7th, 2020. Source: Variety

The new five-minute-long newly-released extended trailer from the standalone DC movie, which follows the events of "Justice League" and focuses on Aquaman's adventurous quest to search for the mythical Trident of Poseidon, so he can unite the seven kingdoms of Atlantis and challenge his power-hungry half-brother, Orm (played by Patrick Wilson) for the throne. From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, "Aquaman," starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime -- one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be ... a king.   9. Principal photography has begun on Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Joker,” starring Oscar nominee Joaquin Phoenix in the title role, alongside Oscar winner Robert De Niro, and directed, produced and co-written by Oscar nominee Todd Phillips. “Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck (Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale. The film also stars Zazie Beetz (“Deadpool 2”), Bill Camp (“Red Sparrow,” “Molly’s Game”), Frances Conroy (TV’s “American Horror Story,” Hulu’s “Castle Rock”), Brett Cullen (“42,” Netflix’s “Narcos”), Glenn Fleshler (TV’s “Billions,” “Barry”), Douglas Hodge (“Red Sparrow,” TV’s “Penny Dreadful”), Marc Maron (TV’s “Maron,” “GLOW”), Josh Pais (upcoming “Motherless Brooklyn,” “Going in Style”), and Shea Whigham (upcoming “First Man,” “Kong: Skull Island”). Phillips (“The Hangover” trilogy) directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with writer Scott Silver (“The Fighter”), based on characters from DC. The film is being produced by Phillips and Bradley Cooper under their Joint Effort banner, and Emma Tillinger Koskoff. It is executive produced by Richard Baratta, Joseph Garner and Bruce Berman.   10. Check out the first teaser trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters featuring Millie Bobby Brown, who is trying to communicate with Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island‘s Monarch. The film is being directed by Michael Dougherty (“Krampus”), and stars Oscar nominees Vera Farmiga (“Up in the Air,” “The Conjuring” films), and Ken Watanabe (“The Last Samurai”) and Sally Hawkins (“Blue Jasmine”), both reprising their “Godzilla” roles; Kyle Chandler (“The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Manchester by the Sea”); Millie Bobby Brown (“Stranger Things”) in her feature film debut; Bradley Whitford (“Get Out”); Thomas Middleditch (HBO’s “Silicon Valley”); Charles Dance (HBO’s “Game of Thrones”); O’Shea Jackson Jr. (“Straight Outta Compton”); Aisha Hinds (“Star Trek Into Darkness”); and Golden Globe nominee Zhang Ziyi (“Memoirs of a Geisha,” “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”). The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance. Dougherty directs from a script he wrote with Zach Shields. The film is being produced by Mary Parent, Alex Garcia, Brian Rogers and Thomas Tull, with Barry H. Waldman, Zach Shields, Yoshimitsu Banno and Kenji Okuhira serving as executive producers and Alexandra Mendes co-producing for Legendary. A presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, the film is currently scheduled for release in March 2019, and will be distributed in 3D and 2D and in select IMAX theaters by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, except in Japan, where it will be distributed by Toho Co., Ltd.
