  1. Deadline has officially confirmed that Universal is developing a brand new Jurassic World movie, which will serve as a complete reboot of the franchise. The screenplay for this exciting project will be written by David Koepp, the original screenwriter of Jurassic Park. This upcoming film will offer a new perspective on the Jurassic era, with a new cast. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard from Jurassic World, nor Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, and Sam Neill, who were part of the original trilogy will be returning to reprise their roles. Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley will produce the movie. Through his production company Amblin Entertainment, Steven Spielberg will serve as the executive producer.
  2. Based on a single chilling chapter from Bram Stoker’s classic novel Dracula, The Last Voyage of the Demeter tells the terrifying story of the merchant ship Demeter, which was chartered to carry private cargo—fifty unmarked wooden crates—from Carpathia to London. Strange events befall the doomed crew as they attempt to survive the ocean voyage, stalked each night by a merciless presence onboard the ship. When the Demeter finally arrives off the shores of England, it is a charred, derelict wreck. There is no trace of the crew. The film stars Corey Hawkins (In the Heights, Straight Outta Compton) as Clemens, a doctor who joins the Demeter crew, Aisling Franciosi (Game of Thrones, The Nightingale) as an unwitting stowaway, Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones, Clash of the Titans) as the ship’s captain and David Dastmalchian (Dune, the Ant-Man franchise) as Demeter’s first mate. The film also features Jon Jon Briones (Ratched, American Horror Story), Stefan Kapicic (Deadpool films, Better Call Saul), Nikolai Nikolaeff (Stranger Things, Bruised), and Javier Botet (It films, Mama). From DreamWorks Pictures and the producers of Zodiac and Black Swan, The Last Voyage of the Demeter is directed by Norwegian horror virtuoso André Øvredal (Scary Stories To Tell in the Dark, Trollhunter), from a script by Bragi F. Schut (Escape Room), Stefan Ruzowitzky (The Counterfeiters) and Zak Olkewicz (the upcoming Bullet Train), based on the chapter “The Captain’s Log” of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The film is produced by Brad Fischer and by Oscar®-nominated producers Mike Medavoy and Arnold Messer for Phoenix Pictures and is executive produced by Matthew Hirsch.

  4. Mattel, Inc. announced today plans to develop Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots®, the classic tabletop game featuring battling robots, into a live-action motion picture. Mattel Films is working with Universal Pictures and Vin Diesel’s production company, One Race Films, on the project. Diesel will also star in the film. Mattel Films will produce the project alongside Diesel and Samantha Vincent (“The Fast and the Furious” franchise) from One Race Films. Ryan Engle (“Rampage,” “The Commuter”) penned the screenplay for the action adventure, which follows a father and son who form an unlikely bond with an advanced war machine. Kevin McKeon will lead the project for Mattel Films. Launched in 1966, the Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots game was inspired by an arcade boxing game which pitted Red Rocker® against Blue Bomber® in a fight to knock his rival’s block off. A staple in pop culture since its debut, the brand’s bright and bold gameplay has appeared in films, television shows and commercials over the past five decades.
  5. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Jurassic World 3 casting news was revealed by director Colin Trevorrow during the screening of Jurassic World held at the Arclight Los Angeles hosted by Collider. Trevorrow announced that Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill and Laura Dern are all set to reprise their iconic roles from Jurassic Park in the next installment of the Jurassic World franchise. Goldblum will once again play chaos theorist Dr. Ian Malcom, with Dern returning as Dr. Ellie Sattler and Neill as Dr. Alan Grant. All three actors appearaed in Steven Spielberg's 1993 classic Jurassic Park, with only Goldblum returning for 1997's The Lost World: Jurassic Park. The teaser includes the caption, “Rick Grimes Returns Only In Theaters” We reported back in November 2018 that the Grimes movies are among the first projects in development from Gimple as part of a multi-year plan for The Walking Dead Universe, which also includes other projects currently in the works: additional films, specials, series, digital content and more. According to Gimple, some of the stories will relate to The Walking Dead as fans know it while others will be standalone stories that break into new creative territory.
  7. Are movie studios starting to shy away from the San Diego Comic-Con? The question comes to mind as Deadline is reporting that movie studios such as Sony, Universal, Warner Bros. DC film studio and Lionsgate will not be attending the convention. Studios currently set to be attending are Disney/Marvel, Paramount and New Line. No reason for Universal, Warner Bros DC film studio or Lionsgate to not be attending but Sony does have their hands full with Spider-Man: Far From Opening opening next week and Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood upcoming on July 26th. Their promo teams have events set up for the whole year with Zombieland 2: Double Tap (October 18th), Charlie’s Angels (November 15th), The Grudge (Janaury 3rd), the comic-book feature adaptation Bloodshot starring Vin Diesel (February 21st), Blumhouse’s Fantasy Island (February 28th) and, farther out, Marvel’s Morbius (July 31st, 2020).
