They then opened up two small locations in Texas and New Jersey which were said to be a reinvention for the brand. Both stores went out of business this past January with the stated reason being COVID. WHP Global, a New York-based brand management company has announced today that they have purchased controlling interest in the Toys "R" Us' parent company and will manage the Tru Kids' business and growth. Specific details about the purchase have yet to be rev
  2. Bloomberg News is reporting that TRU Kids Inc., the company behind opening two Toys "R" Us stores during the 2019 holiday season, have shut these two stores down as a result of the Covid virus. The two stores are located in The Galleria in Houston, Texas, a Simon Mall, and in Westfield Garden State Plaza in Paramus, New Jersey. 3. For those of you who live in Canada, we have gotten reports that the G.I. Joe: Classified 6" Missions: Cobra Island figures are showing up at Toys R' Us stores. The SKN# for them is 480773. This assortment includes the Cobra Trooper, Beach Head and Roadblock v2 which here in the US were released as Target exclusives. Good luck to you Canadians wanting to pick these up, and hope you have an easier time getting them than we did here in the US. Thanks t0ytime for the heads up. 5. CNN reports that Mattel will be laying off around 2200 employee's in an effort to save money after suffering loses in large part due to the closing of Toys R' Us stores this year. They will also be closing all factories in Mexico. Most of the job layoffs will be in back-office and support roles. Sales fell 11% between April and June for the company however it wasn't all bad for the company as Barbie sales grew 12%, and Hot Wheels sales were up 21%. Jurassic World products also sold pretty good for the company.
  6. The other month we told you how Toy's R' Us was planning on making it's return after closing all it's stores earlier this year and that they had re-branded themselves as Geoffrey's Toy Box. While we knew the plan at least starting this year was to open a number of pop-up stores within larger retail outlets that don't normally sell a huge amount of toys, and that the retailer would be somewhere in the midwest, we were expecting something a little bigger than this... So apparently the midwest retailer Toys R' Us or Geoffrey I should say has teamed up with is the grocery ch
  7. Last week we told you how the newly revamped Toys R' Us, now known as Geoffrey's Toy Box had been spotted popping up in Kroger grocery stores. It was revealed in early October that the inventors who owned Toys R' Us decided not to kill off the chain completely at the last minute, even after closing all their stores here in the United States. The new plan, at least initially was to team up with a mid-western retailer(s) and open pop-up stores within the larger retail outlets and sell their toys. While many toy-fans cheered on this news, Some former employee's seemed less happy about the news
  8. Hasbro yesterday during their earnings call said they would be seeing a 12% drop in third-quarter sales due to in large part the closure of Toys R' Us. In response to this Hasbro will be laying off 10% of its 5,400 global workforce which is said to save the company somewhere in the neighborhood of $40 million in annual costs. Hasbro is also having to re-examine how they send products out to retailers such as shipping out smaller quantities to more retailers than what they had become used to while dealing with Toys R' Us. This year Hasbro has added 10,000 new places to sell its products at.
  9. Following our story from the other week, it looks like Toys R' Us is already poised for making a comeback here in the United States after just a few months ago declaring bankruptcy and closing all their US based stores. So last week we told you how it looked as if the Toys R' Us controlling lenders had a last minute change of heart about selling off all the companies assets because they decided the brand was just to valuable. Toys R' Us that same day released a press release posted on their website which says the following: "Geoffrey, LLC, Toys “R” Us, Inc.’s intellectual property holding
  10. According to a report by the WSJ it looks like Toys R' Us' controlling lenders have had a change of heart and decided to revive the Toys ‘R’ Us and Babies ‘R’ Us names in the United States with retail stores. Apparently at the last minute someone decided the brand was just to valuable to kill off. There aren't a lot of specific details at this time, but if you thought you were going to have to grow up after all 735 stores in the US closed a few months ago, I guess you were wrong. Stay-tuned for more details on this as they become available.
  11. CNBC reports that retailer Party City is taking steps to launch 50 Toy City pop-up stores here in the United States by September for the holidays. This move comes in the wake of Toys R' Us closing all it's US based stores for good which should start to happen in the next 5-10 days. Party City already has a lot of experience with pop-up seasonal stores with their Halloween themed ones. The toy stores are only expected to operate through the holidays but they also plan on expanding their website with more toy sales as well.
