  1. Today, McFarlane Toys will be celebrating their 30 year anniversary, with new exclusive action figures and "social media fun"(whatever that means!). Among the reveals so far (or leaks from a few weeks ago) is a Gold Label two-pack with a new figure of Spawn in his original sketch design, along with a figure of the founder of McFarlane Toys himself, Todd McFarlane. Toy collectors were quick to comment about it (completely ignoring the fact that it already happened twice before, as it is the third one, but hey, Twitter didn't exist yet then...). "This is so stupid" said a toy collector from New Jersey. "Who would want an action figure of themselves? I mean, sure, if I was in his place, I would totally do the same thing... I actually ordered 3 Hasbro Selfie Series, but it's completely different. I get to be a X-Wing pilot, Power Ranger or a Ghostbuster at least. But I wasn't satisfied, so I have commissioned a custom head sculpt from a guy on Instagram. It wasn't cheap! But I digress... Todd forcing us to buy his figure is wrong!" "Can you imagine if other people in pop culture did that? Like if George Lucas would have a Star Wars figure of himself (there are, in fact, at least 4 of them), or Stan Lee (Marvel Legends, Mego, 3x Hot Toys,...)? That's just nonsense. I would still buy them all though..." The first Todd McFarlane figure came out in 1997 and was included in one of the Spawn movie mini diorama playsets, the Spawn Alley one, and was called 'Todd the Bum' and was 3¾". The second one, 'Todd the Artist', was avaible only to members of the McFarlane Toys Collector's Club. The McFarlane Toys 30th anniversary celebration will start at 9PM PST/ 12PM EST. More news at 11:00... Happy 30th anniversary, McFarlane Toys!

  5. Deadline is reporting that Spawn comic book creator, Todd McFarlane, has created a dedicated television development and production arm of his McFarlane Films, which has a first-look television deal with wiip (Mare of Easttown). McFarlane Films, overseen by McFarlane and his President of Television, Sean Canino, includes two projects, McFarland and Thumbs, from Thomas Lennon, co-creator of Reno 911! and co-writer of Night at the Museum; Anders Weidemann. They join Sam & Twitch, a live-action TV series inspired by the popular characters from McFarlane’s Spawn comic, which was announced in June, with Jason Smilovic and Todd Katzberg writing the adaptation for McFarlane Films and wiip. McFarland is a stop-motion, animated event series created by Lennon in partnership with ShadowMachine and wiip. The project is described as Night at the Museum meets Toy Story in Twin Peaks and will feature original McFarlane Toys. McFarlane and Lennon will executive produce the series, along with Canino and ShadowMachine. Thumbs, on which McFarlane Films has partnered with wiip and Epicenter (Judas and the Black Messiah), is a live-action drama based on the bestselling graphic novel written by Sean Lewis (Coyotes) with art by Hayden Sherman. Weidemann will write the adaptation of the story, which follows 17-year-old Charlie “Thumbs” James, gamer and social outsider, who enters an esports tournament hoping to win a scholarship from tech billionaire Adrien Camus gamer academy so he can get his ticket out of his neighborhood. But soon he finds himself fighting real-life-and-death battles in a covert war between Camus’ teenage army and a neo-fascist anti-tech movement that is about to take over the U.S. Weidemann, McFarlane, and Canino will executive produce, along with Allard Cantor and Jarrod Murray through Epicenter, with Lewis on board as a producer. Check out Deadline's exclusive interview with Todd McFarlane as he talks about HBO's Spawn, wiip, and the new projects, McFarland and Thumbs.
  6. According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Spawn movie is back on track as Brian Tucker has been hired to write the script for the feature project. Todd McFarlane, the creator of the comic and character, is attached as a director with Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions behind the feature. Blum and McFarlane are producing. Carla Hacken is executive producing. McFarlane wrote the initial script which Jamie Foxx became attached to star as the titular character and Jeremy Renner as a detective nicknamed Twitch. However, this was back in 2017 and it's unclear if Foxx and Renner are still on board with the project. Both actors will be re-approached once the new script is written. Spawn is centered on a black-ops agent who is betrayed and murdered and his soul sent to hell for all the innocents he killed. While there, he makes a deal with a demon who allows him to return to the earthly plane and his wife. However, five years have now passed, and his wife has moved on, while he is a disfigured and superpowered spawn of hell. Tucker is credited with writing the 2013 crime thriller Broken City and writing the remake of The Fugitive for Warner Bros.
  7. TODD MCFARLANE ANNOUNCES FOR 2021, HIS NEW ATTEMPT AT CREATING A SHARED UNIVERSE OF COMIC BOOK CHARACTERS THAT WILL GROW INTO A GLOBAL BRAND BY RECRUITING AN ALL-STAR LINE-UP OF CREATORS AND EXPANDING HIS SPAWN EMPIRE. While there is no word about a dedicated Spawn action figure line in this announcement to go along with this new Spawn comic book Universe, we have been several indications such a thing is in the works. First when an image leaked out earlier in the month for what looked like some kind of Zoom call possibly with retailers showing off new Spawn figures like 7" figures of Cowboy and Redeemer Spawn. Then just the other day Todd himself posted an image for what looked like an early prototype for a Violator figure. And with that image Todd asked folks who wants a new figure of it. Hopefully more details about Spawn figures will be coming soon, but for now check out the full press release put out by McFarlane for his Spawn Universe. Press Release: Today, Image Comics' President Todd McFarlane announced his bold attempt at creating his own multi-character, interconnected comic book universe. His stated goal is to establish a shared fictional universe over time in the vein of what the other comic industry giants, Marvel, and DC Comics, have accomplished with their comic book universes. The announcement was given by McFarlane during a first look presentation at the Direct Market Retailers at the Annual ComicsPRO Conference. The character Spawn, created by McFarlane, will be at the forefront of the initial launch of new titles, but the long-term goal is that Spawn will become but one of many characters that will succeed not only in the comics industry but in many mediums across the globe. McFarlane will capitalize on the twenty-eight-year success story of Spawn, which has seen sales increase between 150 to 600% from pre-pandemic orders. The Spawn title currently is a top 5 monthly selling title on the Diamond Distributors Top 100 Chart. Recently, a new release of a Spawn figure on Kickstarter set a new Kickstarter record, in its category, for raising just under $3. 5 million in 30 days. That figure was also recently awarded the prestigious People's Choice 2021 Toy of The Year (TOTY) by The Toy Association, Inc. As part of his announcement, McFarlane announced four new titles coming out in 2021, with three of them continuing as regular monthly titles, meaning that there will be an opportunity for fans of the Spawn character and his new expanding world to get their stories from it on a weekly basis instead of just twelve times a year. "The simple question is this: DC Comics started a shared universe in the late 1930s. Marvel Comics began theirs in the early 1960s… so, can lightning strike a third time beginning in 2021? I personally do not have the answer to that question right now, but the only way to get an answer to that question is to make the attempt in the first place, "said McFarlane, Image president, and Spawn Creator. "This is a long-intended plan that will need the help of dozens and dozens of creators to help create hundreds and hundreds of characters. And then to reward those creators if any of their ideas pay off in a big way outside of the comic industry. The quest isn't to have our ideas exclusively live in the comic book industry but to have merit and value outside of that industry as well. My character Spawn has been an example of what can happen with creation… so, what are the possibilities if hundreds of creations are brought together? Marvel and DC Comics have shown us that a collective group of characters, together, in a shared universe can resonate globally. I think it is time for David to attempt to join the same arena as the Goliaths of the world." In June, in what McFarlane is calling "2021 the Year of Spawn," comic retailers will be able to order SPAWN'S UNIVERSE #1. This will be a book that will set the stage with a story that will then spill out into the other new monthly titles. The first title will release in August with a book called KING SPAWN #1. The character Spawn will now join the rare company of stalwart characters, like Superman, Batman, and Spider-Man, that will have multiple monthly books for the same title character. It will also mark the first time in twenty-eight years that anyone can buy a monthly issue #1 Spawn book. It gives McFarlane hope of reaching a new generation of readers that missed out on the initial launch of the Spawn back in 1992. In October comes the second new monthly called GUNSLINGER SPAWN. This title character has been a huge hit among the fanbase over the past year, and each of his appearances has garnered enthusiasm at the stores and online. Finally, there will be a new #1 team book, which will band five characters together to fight against forces too big for any of them to take on alone. That book is titled THE SCORCHED. Spawn, Redeemer, Gunslinger, Medieval Spawn, and She-Spawn begins the group's adventures. However, McFarlane promises a rotating cast of heroes over the coming months to keep the roster of heroes fresh. He also said that he would be bringing in new major villains into the fold, too. To lend a creative hand on some of this expanding list of titles, McFarlane has recruited an all-star list of comic book creators such as Art Adams, Jason Shawn Alexander, Carlo Barberi, Brett Booth, J. Scott Campbell, Greg Capullo, Donny Cates, Jim Cheung, Mike del Mundo, Javier Fernandez, David Finch, Jonathan Glapion, Kevin Keane, Aleš Kot, Puppeteer Lee, Sean Lewis, Sean Gordon Murphy, Ben Oliver, Stephen Segovia, Paulo Siqueira, Marc Silvestri, Marcio Takara, and Frank Quitely, as well as others he will be announcing in the coming months. All of this just continued to build on the mythology of Spawn and his world. The original SPAWN book is one of the world's bestselling and longest-running comics, with over 100 million copies sold in more than 120 countries. In 2019, McFarlane made history with the release of the historic SPAWN #300 and record-breaking SPAWN #301. These milestones have earned McFarlane the Guinness World Records title for the world's longest-running creator-owned comic book series. SPAWN #300 became the 2nd highest-selling comic title and was also the only character to place two of its issues in the Top 11 for highest-selling issues for that year. A new movie of SPAWN is currently in development with BlumHouse Studios, Jamie Foxx, and Jeremy Renner, all attached to the project as McFarlane will be making his directorial debut on the film when it goes into production.
  8. The regular edition DC Multiverse 7” Todd McFarlane Designed Batman figure from McFarlane Toys has shown up on Amazon.com, and with it we get new official images for the figure. This one differs from the Gold Label Walmart exclusive version with it’s dark blue colors instead of black. The night-vision goggles have been replaced with a gold colored batarang and the daggers have been replaced with different ones that have spikes on the handles and feature a different paint deco. While Amazon is the first place for this non-Walmart version has showed up at, it should eventually be sold everywhere. Image 1 of 7

  10. Todd McFarlane, one of the most iconic comic book artists of the late 20th century, has unveiled a brand-new DC Multiverse Batman action figure designed, created and produced by McFarlane and his award-winning McFarlane Toys company. This new Batman action figure is inspired from the mind of Todd McFarlane. McFarlane has created a new never-before-seen before version of Batman’s costume. It features a Black Cape and Cowl, comes with two swords, a base, and includes a collectible art card with Todd McFarlane's Batman artwork on front and character biography on the back. The incredibly detailed 7-inch scale figure is designed with McFarlane Toys' signature "Ultra Articulation" with up to 22 moving parts for a full range of posing and play. In the 1980s, Todd McFarlane began drawing Batman professionally, working on the classic storyline "Batman: Year Two™" in Detective Comics™, and creating iconic artwork, including his dynamic cover for Batman #423. Todd went on to become a titan of the comic book industry but has always had an affinity for Batman. "Batman has always been my favorite character- excluding Spawn," said McFarlane, creative force and CEO of McFarlane Toys. "I've always liked the fact that Batman has no superpowers. When it comes down to it, he's just a dude in a costume trying to combat evil. Conceivably, if Batman were in a huge battle in space, without any of his gadgets and tech, he could potentially die, unlike Superman™. I've always had an affinity for Batman, and it’s an honor to design a brand new version of a Batman figure for all fans and collectors." McFarlane Toys is also bringing collectors and fans a brand-new collector program. With the launch of the new Batman figure by Todd McFarlane, McFarlane Toys has announced its new McFarlane Gold Label Collection Series that will feature characters from your favorite pop-culture and entertainment brands. All figures released in the McFarlane Gold Label Collection will be highly limited and showcased in limited- edition packaging with a McFarlane Toys Gold Label Collection printed in foil. Look for more McFarlane Toys Collector Series announcement coming soon. The McFarlane Gold Label Collection Batman by Todd McFarlane figure will be available for pre-order in mid-Oct at Walmart.com. The figure is exclusive to Walmart but will be available at select international specialty retailers. The retailer release date is January 2021. MSRP $19.99
  11. I started this mission to see how much Walmart cares about their customers who purchase their toy collectibles that are sold at their stores and online site. Reading TNI Admin JayC post about fixing scalping problems again helped push me to do it as well... On Friday, August 7th, Walmart.com put on sale at 2 PM Eastern, the 7" Mortal Kombat Spawn figure Signature Edition with a limit purchase of 1 for $59.99. This was a very limited figure of 1000 and was signed by Spawn creator Todd McFarlane. The figure being sold was the 7" Mortal Kombat Spawn figure with the mace, which is the second release. The first release being with the sword and the third release being the Target SDCC 2020 with the axe. When the sale went live, I refreshed the page and clicked the pre-order button. I received a pop-up message stating there was an internal error on Walmart.com side and I should try again. I refreshed the page again, clicked the pre-order button and same pop-up error again. I refreshed the page again and the figure was listed as sold out. I knew going into this purchase it would be very hard to obtain because of the limited supply but I decided to check out eBay.com and saw 2 or 3 figures being sold with the asking prices from $200 to $1,000. Six hours later and at the time of posting this thread... There is currently 38 live auctions and 10 completed auctions on eBay. Out of the 38 live auctions, there are 15 live auctions where the sellers have a quantity of 2 to 6 figures for sale. Out of the 10 completed auctions, 2 sellers sold 2 figures and another seller sold 4 figures. For only 1000 figures available with a limited purchase of 1. I'm starting to wonder how many employees from Walmart.com are selling these figures? I decided to take this information and email Walmart.com about this incident and the listings on eBay. I informed them about what happened to me on their website and pointed out directly all the eBay auctions. I don't believe Walmart will do anything about the auctions but I wanted to let them know that real customers are sick and tired of getting screwed over by Scalpers who are somehow purchasing multiple items just to sell at a higher cost and major corporate stores are ignoring the whole situation just so they can make a buck. Walmart has not commented about this incident.
  12. Late last night Todd McFarlane posted this image on his personal Instagram account. The image appears to show a never-before seen Spawn related Cy-Gor figure. In the caption for the image it says, "Coming Soon..! CY-GOR (cybernetic gorilla)" and includes the following tags - #hybrid #savage #huge #mcfarlanetoys. The figure in the image does not appear to be any of the previous Cy-Gor figures that McFarlane Toys has released in the past, so it's unclear if what is shown is a brand new figure or what. The figure in the image does not appear to have any kind of articulation, however if this is an early prototype, that could be added later. If this is in fact some kind of new figure, the bigger question is how would it be released? Unlike Spawn himself, Cy-Gor as far as I know did not appear in the Mortal Kombat 11 video game. So it would seem unlikely to me that they would do this figure for that line like they did with Spawn himself. Of course there is the Kickstarter route, but it seems kind of early to already be teasing another Spawn figure for that, not to mention the idea behind that was originally said to produce new figures of all the characters done in the original first series of Spawn figures. The original Cy-Gor figure wasn't released until series 4. Does that mean McFarlane is preparing to launch a new mass market dedicated Spawn figure line, and if so will the figures be more statue like or will they be highly articulated like we've seen them do for Fortnite, DC Multiverse and Mortal Kombat? I guess time will tell.
