  1. Netflix revealed the promotional poster for the four-episode miniseries, The Witcher: Blood Origin, that will premiere on Christmas this year. The miniseries stars Sophia Brown, Laurence O'Fuarain, Michelle Yeoh, and Minnie Driver as The Narrator. Set in an elven world 1200 years before the world of The Witcher, Blood Origin tells a story lost to time - one of seven outcasts who unite against an unstoppable power that took everything from them. Their blood quest giving rise to a prototype Witcher in a conflict that brings about the “conjunction of the spheres,” when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one. Every story has a beginning. Witness the untold history of the Continent with The Witcher: Blood Origin, a new prequel series set in an elven world 1200 years before the events of The Witcher. Blood Origin will tell a story lost to time - exploring the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal “Conjunction of the Spheres,” when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one. The Witcher: Blood Origin will release in 2022, only on Netflix.
  2. Netflix has announced that The Witcher has been renewed for a fourth season, except we won't be seeing Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. After Season three, Cavill has decided to step down from the role and will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth. The third season of the series will return in the summer 2023. A four-part prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origin launches December 25th, 2022. The Witcher is a story of the intertwined destinies of three individuals in the vast world of The Continent, where humans, elves, witchers, gnomes, and monsters battle to survive and thrive, and where good and evil is not easily identified. Sources have informed Deadline that Cavill only signed a short-term deal and felt it was time to move on after three seasons. The show is also filmed overseas and has a demanding production schedule. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is showrunner and executive producer. Tomek Baginski, Jason F. Brown, Sean Daniel, Mike Ostrowski, Steve Gaub and Jarosław Sawko also executive produce.

Coinciding with the 15th anniversary of the first Witcher game’s release, CD PROJEKT RED has announced today that The Witcher Remake is currently in the works, and has also shared the first details regarding the project. Previously referred to by the codename “Canis Majoris” during the studio’s Strategy Update earlier in October, the remake will be a modern reimagining of 2007’s The Witcher — the first game in CD PROJEKT RED’s acclaimed RPG trilogy. The title will be built from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5 technology, and will use the toolset CDPR is creating for the new Witcher saga. The project is currently in the early stages of development at Fool’s Theory — a game development studio specializing in role-playing games. The team employs numerous veteran developers who previously worked on The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and CD PROJEKT RED is providing full creative supervision.

Prince Radovid - Hugh Skinner (Mamma Mia Here We Go Again!, Falling For Figaro, Fleabag) Character description: Royal playboy and younger brother to King Vizimir, Radovid finds himself suddenly a man on the inside of the Redanian Intelligence. With his good looks and often drunken charm, Radovid surprises with how incisive he can be in matters of politics, but it's all games until someone gets hurt. Mistle - Christelle Elwin (Half Bad, Bloods) Character description: Mistle is a member of The Rats, a gang of misfit teenagers who steal from the rich and give to themselves - and sometimes the poor. Based on the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, the episodic script writers are: Mike Ostrowski, Tania Lotia, Haily Hall, Rae Benjamin, Clare Higgins, Javier Grillo-Marxuach, Matthew D'Ambrosio and Troy Dangerfield.
  5. McFarlane Toys today announced that they are expanding their license for The Witcher to include figures based on the Netflix series as well as the video game.

Today’s announcement marks the first official confirmation of a new game in The Witcher series since the release of CD PROJEKT RED’s previous single-player, AAA RPG in the franchise — The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — which won a total of 250 Game of the Year awards and was later expanded upon with the Hearts of Stone and Blood & Wine add-ons. The teaser image for the new game features a medallion, accompanied by the phrase A New Saga Begins. Beyond this initial confirmation of a new saga in The Witcher franchise, no further details — such as a development time frame or release date — were provided. CD PROJEKT RED also announced that they will be moving to Unreal Engine 5 as part of the multi-year strategic partnership with Epic Games. Since The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, released in 2011, CD PROJEKT RED has used their proprietary REDengine technology to build their games. This new relationship with Epic covers not only licensing but technical development of Unreal Engine 5, as well as potential future versions of Unreal Engine, where relevant. Developers from CD PROJEKT RED will collaborate with those from Epic with the primary goal being to help tailor the engine for open-world experiences, beginning with the development of the next game in The Witcher franchise. Speaking on the use of Unreal Engine 5 for this, and future games, CTO of CD PROJEKT RED, Paweł Zawodny stated: Tim Sweeney, Founder, and CEO of Epic Games remarked about the partnership: Simultaneously with these announcements, CD PROJEKT RED also confirmed that REDengine, the technology which powers Cyberpunk 2077, is still being used for the development of the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 expansion.

The Witcher Season 2 debuts December 17th, only on Netflix.

Additionally, Netflix is expanding The Witcher franchise with a new kids and family series and a second anime feature film. The upcoming anime film, which remains untitled, is the second anime film in The Witcher franchise at Netflix. The first anime, The Witcher: Nightmare of The Wolf, which followed the exploits of Geralt’s mentor and predecessor Vessemir. The Witcher: Blood Origin: Set in an elven world 1200 years before the world of The Witcher. Blood Origin will chart the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal ‘Conjunction of the Spheres’, when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one. The series stars Laurence O’Fuarain, Michelle Yeoh, Sophia Brown, Lenny Henry, Mirren Mack, Nathaniel Curtis, Dylan Moran. Jacob Collins-Levy, Lizzie Annis, Huw Novelli, Francesca Mills, Amy Murry, and Zach Wyatt also round out the cast. Declan de Barra will act as executive producer and showrunner. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich and Matt O’Toole are executive producers. Andrzej Sapkowski will serve as a creative consultant. Jason Brown and Sean Daniel from Hivemind, and Tomek Baginski, and Jarek Sawko from Platige Films will all serve as executive producers.

'The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf' stars the voices of Theo James as Vesemir, Lara Pelver as Tetra, Graham McTavish as Deglan and Mary McDonnell as Lady Zerbst Directed by animator Kwang Il Han from a screenplay by Beau DeMayo. Beau DeMayo, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich & Kwang Il Han are producing. 'The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf' is premiering on August 23rd, only on Netflix.

  11. Today, Netflix and CDPR partnered to host the first-ever WitcherCon event. Streamed globally via YouTube and Twitch, the event featured a number of interactive panels with The Witcher talent including Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra, Freya Allan, Mimî M Khayisa, Paul Bullion, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, and Declan de Barra. As well as panels, the event included special short-form content, musical interludes, and a host of exclusive surprises and never-before-seen insights from The Witcher live-action series and forthcoming anime feature.   12. Netflix has announced they are developing a 6 part live-action The Witcher spin-off series entitled The Witccher: Blood Origin. The spin-off series will take place 1200 years before The Witcher series.

Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich talks about what the cast and crew went through to bring us the second season of The Witcher for Netflix. 15 locations, 89 cast members, and 1,200 crew members later, The Witcher has officially wrapped production on Season 2. No official release date was announced but the trailer does shown the season coming in 2021.
  14. Netflix has announced via Twitter the additional cast for the second season of The Witcher. The Witcher Season 2 include the additional cast of Adjoa Andoh as Nenneke, Cassie Clare as Phillippa Eilhart, Liz Carr as Fenn, Graham McTavish as Dijkstra , Kevin Doyle as Ba’lian, Simon Callow as Codringher and Chris Fulton as Rience.
  15. Todd McFarlane today announced that McFarlane Toys is doing a new 7" Gold Label Collection Mandarin Spawn figure that will be released as a Walmart exclusive. The Walmart one will be blue. There will also be a regular release version done in red. Todd in the video says the two figures will differ in a number of ways. The spikes on the shoulder will be reversed and there will be different faces and loin cloth. For accessories it will come with a big staff weapon which will be exclusive to the blue Walmart one and dragon sword which I believe will come with both versions. The figure looks to be possibly part of McFarlane's new The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt line I guess because their will be some kind of Spawn skin or such available in the game, similar to what we saw with Mortal Kombat 11. The Walmart exclusvie one will have a special gold foil label on it. The Walmart one will be going up for pre-order on October 1.   16. As part of the ‘Witchmas’ initiative, Netflix has dropped the official logo for the anime movie Nightmare of the Wolf. The project is from The Witcher series producers Lauren Schmidt Hissrich and Beau DeMayo, along with the Korean animation studio Studio Mir animation studio whose credits include Netflix’s Voltron: Legendary Defender. No release date was announced for The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, but it could premiere before the release of the second season of The Witcher which is expected in 2021.
  17. Early in the year when I interviewed Todd McFarlane, he indicated that The Witcher video game license was one his company was pursing for his action figure company McFarlane Toys. Well now thanks to some new listings that have shown up from an overseas etailer, it looks like he was successful in getting it. The website Sukipan.com is listing 4 different action figures. Two 7" figures, one of The WItcher and one of Eredin Bréacc Glas. There is also a 12" version of the Witcher listed and some type of Walmart exclusive. There is no reference image for the Walmart one, but it is listed as a 7" figure. I don't know how it will differ from the other 7" one. According to the etailer, the figures will be out in October of this year. Of course until McFarlane officially announces these, we will treat this as a rumor at this time.

Some we already new about but a few are being seen for the first time. - Gold Label 7" DC Multiverse McFarlane Designed Batman - Gold Label 7" The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt 7" Geralt of Rivia - Gold Label 7" Spawn Mandarin Spawn - Mortal Kombat 11 Kitana 7" red variant - DC Multiverse 7" Arkham Knight Bronze Batman - DOOM 7" Bronze Marauder - Warhammer 40,000 unpainted 7" Necron All of these are some kind of variant for figures that have or will be released at regular retail.   19. The second season of The Witcher is currently in production in the United Kingdom and Netflix has released new images of Geralt of Rivia (played by Henry Cavill) debuting new armor. Along with the new images includes the tagline: "His emotional shield can ward off any charmer, but his trusted sword he’ll wield, will be matched with new armour." Here’s the Season 2 logline: “Convinced Yennefer’s life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen. “While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.”
  20. Netflix has announced that the second season of 'The Witcher' has begun production in the United Kingdom, with a planned launch in 2021. The streaming series was renewed last Fall for an eight-episode order. Returning are Henry Cavill who leads the cast in the role of Geralt of Rivia; Anya Chalotra as the sorceress Yennefer; Freya Allan as the princess Ciri; and Joey Batey as the bard Jaskier who sings the signature ballad “Toss a Coin to Your Witcher” from the series. New cast members include Kristofer Hivju as Nivellen, Yasen Atour as Coen, Agnes Bjorn as Vereena, Paul Bullion as Lambert, Thue Ersted Rasmussen as Eskel, Aisha Fabienne Ross as Lydia, and newcomer Mecia Simson as Francesca. Other returning cast include MyAnna Buring as Tissaia, Tom Canton as Filavandrel, Lilly Cooper as Murta, Jeremy Crawford as Yarpin Zigrin, Eamon Farren as Cahir, Mahesh Jadu as Vilgefortz, Terence Maynard as Artorius, Lars Mikkelson as Stregobor, Mimi Ndiweni as Fringilla Vigo, Royce Pierreson as Istredd, Wilson Radjou-Pujalte as Dara, Anna Shaffer as Triss Merigold, and Therica Wilson Read as Sabrina. The new season will be directed by Stephen Surjik, Sarah O’Gorman, Ed Bazalgette and Geeta Patel.

Netflix has announced that due to The Witcher being the streaming networks most successful Season 1 show ever that they have greenlighted an anime feature film The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. The world of The Witcher expands in this anime film that explores a powerful new threat facing The Continent.
