  1. After "Pre-Sold out" figures, and some online stores having "Pre-order sold out" items, McFarlane Toys keeps pushing the envelope for the toy industry, by introducing a brand new ground-breaking concept: the "Sold out crowdfunding campaign"! ToyFarce investigated... Earlier this week, McFarlane Toys announced that a 24" statue of Spawn and Batman would be available through a new crowdfunding campaign system called the McFarlane Toys Collector's Club Drawing Board. A gorgeous statue, which depicts the cover of the Spawn/Batman comic book from 1994. Yesterday, the McFarlane Toys Collector's Club Drawing Board website went live, and... we had some questions. A crowdfunding campaign, with a limited number of items? So... isn't that just a normal sale then? Also, there were 4 different rewards tiers (one with the statue only, one with statue and comics, one with statue and signed comics, and one with statue and action figures 2-pack), but they were all at the same price of $500... Basically, a normal sale with first come, first served rewards? The website also showed the numbers in the negative in the first hours, making it even more confusing. Needless to say, the campaign was funded really fast (15 minutes according to McFarlane Toys), and all 500 units have now been sold. "We were already used to items that sell out in seconds, but we had never seen crowdfunding campaigns that sell out in minutes. Truly avant-garde, bleeding edge stuff!" There are still 24 days to go for the crowdfunding campaign, which is, once again, already sold out. More info on the McFarlane Toys Collector's Club Drawing Board website! More news at 11:00... The next innovation will probably be the "Sold out reveal" - you heard it here first! *ToyFarce News is parody news for laughs and not meant to be taken seriously!
  2. Todd McFarlane has released a new video as part of the WonderCon at home event going on this weekend. In the video talks about various things including toys, comics and his Spawn movie. Most of the things he talks about in the video are things we've heard him say before, but I just wanted to recap a few things that stood out to me. First he confirms that the next Kickstarter that will launch later this year will be for a new Medieval Spawn figure. Last October Todd had mentioned he was thinking about Medieval Spawn for the Kickstarter treatment, but no its 100% confirmed as happening. More details should be coming soon. He says it will be run even better than the first Kickstarter . He also suggested they might do more than one Kickstarter this year. He also talks about doing more Spawn figures at general retail. Nothing really specific. At one point while he is talking about Spawn figures, they show up an image of a Violator figure being painted which you can see a screen cap for below. We've also seen him previously tease other Spawn figures like Cowboy Spawn and Redeemer Spawn Todd also mentioned his company is going to soon be announcing 7 new licenses for action figures they will be doing. I suppose some of these will include things like the Disney Mirrorverse figures we've previously reported on. He mentions it will be things based on TV shows and movies. He mentions how he is going to be doing more artist proof (unpainted) figures for as many of his lines as possible. The artist proof figures is something they had been doing with their Warhammer figures, and it looks like we could start to see similar figures in other lines like DC Multiverse. In the video he mentions they are working on a new Batmobile and something bigger. It's not clear if this is going to be another Build-A-Batmobile type thing or something that would be in scale with 7" figures. When he was showing hand gestures for size while talking about this in the video, it didn't seem like it would be something in actual 7" scale.
  3. SHOCKING REVELATION! During a recent interview with Spawn, we asked what led to the return of a Spawn line of action figures in 2021, and it turns out it was... jealousy? Spawn action figures had been a staple of McFarlane Toys since the very beginning, so when they got the DC Comics license and started to produce more Batman figures than Spawn, something had to be done! During a recent interview with Spawn, we talked about the 90's, when Spawn was one of the biggest things in the world of comic books, selling millions of issues, but also in action figures and collectibles, with the launch of McFarlane Toys (which was called 'Todd Toys' at the time). "I have very fond memories of that period. People knew I was the G.O.A.T. Comics, animated series, a movie, action figures... You couldn't go to any comic book store without seeing Spawn." From 1994 to 2008, over 34 waves of Spawn action figures were produced. It would then take years before we would see another Spawn action figures... "Those were dark times, to say the least. Some say I, Spawn, had saturated the market, and it was just a good business decision to lay low for a while. There had been too many Spawn figures..." Enter DC Comics: In late 2019, McFarlane Toys announced that they acquired the DC Comics license and would produce action figures of acclaimed DC superheroes, starting in 2020. "That's where it started to bug me... In January 2020, McFarlane Toys announced the first wave of DC Multiverse figures. In that first wave, there were already 3 Batman figures (4 if you count the Batman who Laughs!). Then another wave was announced, with another Batman. Then another..." In March 2020, the first Spawn figure in years was announced as part of the Mortal Kombat 11 line. "I had to come back, but I had to be smart about it. I had to test the waters first... but after 3 different releases of that same figure, with different weapons, we knew it was time". McFarlane Toys would then announce a return to Spawn, with a Kickstarter campaign of the very first Original Spawn figure REMASTERED... followed later by a new line of Spawn action figures. "You see, Todd was making too many Batman figures... and I took that personally". Even though there are still tons of Batman figures being produced, there are now tons of Spawn figures being produced as well. Since the first figure, we have had several different flavors of the Mortal Kombat Spawn, a Gunslinger Spawn, a Mandarin Spawn, a Ninja Spawn, a Spawn with a throne, a Nightmare Spawn, an Omega Spawn,... and soon a King Spawn! "We even buried the hatchet with Batman and a comic book and an action figure 2-pack came out! Everything is as it should be." More news at 11:00... The Last Spawn. *ToyFarce News is parody news for laughs and not meant to be taken seriously!
  4. It's Wednesday and you know what that means: ToyFarce review! This week, we're having a look at some recent McFarlane Toys figures: the DC Multiverse Batman and Spawn two-pack, and the BigBadToyStore Exclusive Spawn Universe Spawn (Black and White Accent Edition). I hesitated to even open these, since they kinda looked cool in their respective boxes, but I have no space to display them in the boxes either, so had to #LetEmBreathe! First, the DC Multiverse Batman and Spawn two-pack. Fresh off the heels of the (slightly disappointing) Batman/Spawn crossover comic book that came out in december last year, McFarlane Toys announced a two-pack, which makes complete sense, since they have the DC license and own Spawn. It's as if the comic book just existed to sell action figures... *mindblown* The 2 figures are pretty good, considering there is a plethora of Batman and Spawn figures, and they could have picked worse ones. My only issue with the 2 pack is the Batman screaming head, which makes it look like he just stubbed his toe really hard constantly. A second head with a more 'standard' expression would have been welcome (even one we already have). Batman comes with 2 extra hands and a batarang, and Spawn comes with a huge sword. Also included are a backdrop with a base to hold it, along with 2 trading cards and 2 stands (one DC and one Spawn). The Batman figure re-uses the body of the Year 2 figure, I believe, with a different cape and head, while the Spawn is the same as the one as the throne set one, with a way better cape. The Spawn Universe Spawn (Black and White Accent Edition), which is limited to 3000 and was exclusive to BigBadToyStore was a total impulse buy. I didn't really have a need for a "How it feels to chew 5 gums" edition of Spawn, but I was browsing the internet when it dropped, saw that it was limited, succumbed to FOMO and grabbed it, and it was shipped really soon after. It comes in a special 'collector' box with great art on the back. The figure comes with chain accessories, a collectible art card with a stand, and a stand for the figure. The figure uses the same mold as the Mortal Kombat Shadow of Spawn figure, but only using black with green 'accents' (there's not really any white on the figure, so not sure why it's called black and white accent...). I'll admit it looks really cool. It has a great shelf presence. The chains can be attached in his back, under the cape, to flow freely on the sides. The only thing that would have made that figure a complete win would if the green highlights glowed in the dark. More news at 11:00... Spawn and Batman brooding over the city contest, coming soon!
  5. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Blumhouse have added three new writers to do the rewrite for Spawn. The studio has picked up Joker’s Scott Silver, Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s Malcolm Spellman and Matt Mixon to team together and work out a new script for the featured project, which has been in development at Blumhouse since 2017. Jamie Foxx remains attached to the project as the antihero lead character, but the involvement of Jeremy Renner, who was previously attached, is to be determined, depending on how things come together with the new draft. In the comics, Spawn is a former black-ops agent who makes a deal with a demon after being betrayed and killed. The demon allows him to return to Earth, but when he returns, five years have passed, his wife has moved on and he roams Earth as a disfigured spawn of hell. Spawn comic creator Todd McFarlane wrote a previous draft of the script and was looking to direct, but McFarlane had acknowledges he may not be the right person to direct, but will remain as one of the film's producers.
  6. It's Wednesday, and you know what that means: ToyFarce review! This week we're having a look at the gorgeous Deluxe Spawn and Throne set from McFarlane Toys. It's nice to see more Spawn figures hitting the shelves, and this one is a beautiful (and ingenious!) offering. The whole thing with the cape not being complete to look good on the chair made a few people mad, but you can't argue with the result... It looks so damn good! This deluxe set comes in a big box with a window, so you can see Spawn and his throne next to each other. There's some awesome Greg Capullo art in the back. It nearly makes you want to keep it in the box doesn't it? *Nearly*... The throne comes in 2 parts for it to fit in the packaging, with the top part being a separate part so that it fits in a smaller box (#smart). Spawn is basically your basic Spawn figure, without cape (reminding me of the movie Spawn figures, a bit). The "top of the cape" part can be attached to it with a peg. There's also a bit of cape on the throne. The figure in itself looks great. It re-uses lots of parts from the Mortal Kombat Spawn figure (minus the cape, duh). He has a kind of darker blue shade, compared to the usual black/very dark grey, which makes him pop up a bit more. The whites on the suit are also brighter. The small details in the sculpt are all there. Articulations are good, similar to that MK Spawn (no thigh swivels, unfortunately). You can attach the "top of the cape" part to it and he looks kinda silly, but the second you sit him on that throne: Wow! That thing has presence. It will look great on any shelf. I remember liking the older McFarlane Toys Spawn on a throne figure, but it was basically a statue. This one, you can play with, add things in his hands, tweak the pose, etc. More news at 11:00... Spawnie, Spawnie, he's our man, if he can't kill 'em, no one can. Yay, Spawnie!
  7. McFarland. MacFairlane. McFreemont. McFragglerock. We've all seen Todd McFarlane's name butchered to death by fans, whether they love or hate him (even if a large part won't ever admit that they like some of his products, to look cool on the internet). The latest wave of spelling mistakes came with the announcement of the Munitions Pack, a weapon pack for all McFarlane Toys 7-inch figures, something that fans had been demanding for a long time, especially with the DC Multiverse figures not being able to have firearms, and 'fans' didn't disappoint: "MacFairlane Toys is finally doing something right, but the weapons should have come with the figures in the first place!" (It has been documented for a while that it is a Warner Bros thing, though). "McFarland's weapon pack is cool, but the weapons won't probably fit with other brands... SMH" (as if McFarlane had an obligation to make weapons for other toy lines...). "McFairmont's weapon pack sucks! Mezco did it better." (This is an actual comment I read. "McFairmont". I hope autocorrect was involved...). As a P.S.A. for future releases, please remember: It's Mc-Far-Lane. McFarlane Toys. More news at 11:00... It's an attitude! *ToyFarce News is parody news for laughs and not meant to be taken seriously!
  8. It's Wednesday and you know what that means... ToyFarce review! This week, we're having a look at the first wave of new Spawn figures, from the Spawn's Universe line of McFarlane Toys! Spawn is Todd McFarlane's creation, and the very reason why he started McFarlane Toys in the first place nearly 3 decades ago (as other brands did not want to do Spawn figures for him). In the late 90's/early 00's, you couldn't go to a comic book store without seeing a ton of Spawn figures. Then, suddenly, it stopped. Sure, we got the Mortal Kombat Spawn figure in recent years, along with the Kickstarter Spawn, a new and improved version of the very first figure, but this is the first actual wave of Spawn figures. Exciting! First off, odd choice, but instead of going with a classic look for Spawn on that first wave, McFarlane Toys went for the Gunslinger Spawn instead, most likely because there is a new comic book about this Spawn coming out as well. The Gunslinger Spawn comes with 2 revolvers, a rifle and a rifle bag. The sculpt is amazing and the colors are great, with really vibrant red and green. You might hurt yourself while handling the figure with all those spikes. Still, a triumphant return for Spawn in toy form. The Redeemer, or Anti-Spawn, the heaven's equivalent to hell's Spawn, is also a nice figure, even if not my favorite from this wave. The details on the sculpt and the wings are stunning, and the Redeemer comes with his sword. The wings do leave a little to be desired, the articulation on them does not allow a lot of movement, and the peg is really thin, and one of the wings of my figure is 'locked' in a pose, and it looks like trying to move them more will break the peg. Raven Spawn also looks amazing in its creepiness. The dark colors and details, along with the axe/scythe and chains accessories will look perfectly gloomy on any shelf! The contrast with the bright green of the eyes is a nice touch. This is another figure that you might need gloves to pose, as the spikes on the gauntlets and legs are not pleasant. The Clown, a classic Spawn villain, looks just as creepy and evil as when we last saw him. This one comes with a gigantic backpack rocket launcher full of weapons, which can be a little heavy and make the figure fall backwards a lot. I don't think I know anybody who will display him with it anyway, it's kind of a weird accessory. He also comes with a knife and a razor blade. The figure itself is small, but because of the giant backpack accessory, its packaging ended up being one of the biggest of that wave... ...apart from Violator. That thing is a BEAST. Seriously, this is not a toy, it is a weapon. It is heavy, has horns and spikes growing all over and looks amazing. One of McFarlane Toys' strong suits has always been big monster figures, and we are very far from the first Violator figure, which was basically a glorified bend-em figure. This Violator looks more like the one in the modern version of the comic book (#beefy). Definitely the highlight of that wave. All that plastic for only about $50 is insane. Which was your favorite Spawn figure that you hope to see in that Spawn's Universe line? Let us know in the comments! More news at 11:00... WANDAAAA !
  9. Todd McFarlane posted what looks like it may be some kind of new Spawn with his Throne, but its hard to say for sure. More details as they become available! "HAPPY SPAWN-MAS DAY!! Looks like Spawn got what he always wanted and I hope YOU did too!"

  11. xiaomukuo takes a look at Spawn Wave 2 Action Figures from McFarlane Toys. 12. According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Spawn movie is back on track as Brian Tucker has been hired to write the script for the feature project. Todd McFarlane, the creator of the comic and character, is attached as a director with Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions behind the feature. Blum and McFarlane are producing. Carla Hacken is executive producing. McFarlane wrote the initial script which Jamie Foxx became attached to star as the titular character and Jeremy Renner as a detective nicknamed Twitch. However, this was back in 2017 and it's unclear if Foxx and Renner are still on board with the project. Both actors will be re-approached once the new script is written. Spawn is centered on a black-ops agent who is betrayed and murdered and his soul sent to hell for all the innocents he killed. While there, he makes a deal with a demon who allows him to return to the earthly plane and his wife. However, five years have now passed, and his wife has moved on, while he is a disfigured and superpowered spawn of hell. Tucker is credited with writing the 2013 crime thriller Broken City and writing the remake of The Fugitive for Warner Bros.
  13. Kevin Smith is recreating the Masters of the Universe in his image for Netflix and of course an action figure line comes along with it. 14. Here's my custom MOTU Origins Spawn. Spawn was made using a Master's of the WWE Universe Seth Rollins as a base figure. With various Spawn figures including the Mortal Kombat 11 gold series figure for costume add on's. The head is a resin cast of said figure. I hope you enjoy this, and feel free to leave feedback.
  15. TODD MCFARLANE ANNOUNCES FOR 2021, HIS NEW ATTEMPT AT CREATING A SHARED UNIVERSE OF COMIC BOOK CHARACTERS THAT WILL GROW INTO A GLOBAL BRAND BY RECRUITING AN ALL-STAR LINE-UP OF CREATORS AND EXPANDING HIS SPAWN EMPIRE. While there is no word about a dedicated Spawn action figure line in this announcement to go along with this new Spawn comic book Universe, we have been several indications such a thing is in the works. First when an image leaked out earlier in the month for what looked like some kind of Zoom call possibly with retailers showing off new Spawn figures like 7" figures of Cowboy and Redeemer Spawn. Then just the other day Todd himself posted an image for what looked like an early prototype for a Violator figure. And with that image Todd asked folks who wants a new figure of it. Hopefully more details about Spawn figures will be coming soon, but for now check out the full press release put out by McFarlane for his Spawn Universe. Press Release: Today, Image Comics' President Todd McFarlane announced his bold attempt at creating his own multi-character, interconnected comic book universe. His stated goal is to establish a shared fictional universe over time in the vein of what the other comic industry giants, Marvel, and DC Comics, have accomplished with their comic book universes. The announcement was given by McFarlane during a first look presentation at the Direct Market Retailers at the Annual ComicsPRO Conference. The character Spawn, created by McFarlane, will be at the forefront of the initial launch of new titles, but the long-term goal is that Spawn will become but one of many characters that will succeed not only in the comics industry but in many mediums across the globe. McFarlane will capitalize on the twenty-eight-year success story of Spawn, which has seen sales increase between 150 to 600% from pre-pandemic orders. The Spawn title currently is a top 5 monthly selling title on the Diamond Distributors Top 100 Chart. Recently, a new release of a Spawn figure on Kickstarter set a new Kickstarter record, in its category, for raising just under $3. 5 million in 30 days. That figure was also recently awarded the prestigious People's Choice 2021 Toy of The Year (TOTY) by The Toy Association, Inc. As part of his announcement, McFarlane announced four new titles coming out in 2021, with three of them continuing as regular monthly titles, meaning that there will be an opportunity for fans of the Spawn character and his new expanding world to get their stories from it on a weekly basis instead of just twelve times a year. "The simple question is this: DC Comics started a shared universe in the late 1930s. Marvel Comics began theirs in the early 1960s… so, can lightning strike a third time beginning in 2021? I personally do not have the answer to that question right now, but the only way to get an answer to that question is to make the attempt in the first place, "said McFarlane, Image president, and Spawn Creator. "This is a long-intended plan that will need the help of dozens and dozens of creators to help create hundreds and hundreds of characters. And then to reward those creators if any of their ideas pay off in a big way outside of the comic industry. The quest isn't to have our ideas exclusively live in the comic book industry but to have merit and value outside of that industry as well. My character Spawn has been an example of what can happen with creation… so, what are the possibilities if hundreds of creations are brought together? Marvel and DC Comics have shown us that a collective group of characters, together, in a shared universe can resonate globally. I think it is time for David to attempt to join the same arena as the Goliaths of the world." In June, in what McFarlane is calling "2021 the Year of Spawn," comic retailers will be able to order SPAWN'S UNIVERSE #1. This will be a book that will set the stage with a story that will then spill out into the other new monthly titles. The first title will release in August with a book called KING SPAWN #1. The character Spawn will now join the rare company of stalwart characters, like Superman, Batman, and Spider-Man, that will have multiple monthly books for the same title character. It will also mark the first time in twenty-eight years that anyone can buy a monthly issue #1 Spawn book. It gives McFarlane hope of reaching a new generation of readers that missed out on the initial launch of the Spawn back in 1992. In October comes the second new monthly called GUNSLINGER SPAWN. This title character has been a huge hit among the fanbase over the past year, and each of his appearances has garnered enthusiasm at the stores and online. Finally, there will be a new #1 team book, which will band five characters together to fight against forces too big for any of them to take on alone. That book is titled THE SCORCHED. Spawn, Redeemer, Gunslinger, Medieval Spawn, and She-Spawn begins the group's adventures. However, McFarlane promises a rotating cast of heroes over the coming months to keep the roster of heroes fresh. He also said that he would be bringing in new major villains into the fold, too. To lend a creative hand on some of this expanding list of titles, McFarlane has recruited an all-star list of comic book creators such as Art Adams, Jason Shawn Alexander, Carlo Barberi, Brett Booth, J. Scott Campbell, Greg Capullo, Donny Cates, Jim Cheung, Mike del Mundo, Javier Fernandez, David Finch, Jonathan Glapion, Kevin Keane, Aleš Kot, Puppeteer Lee, Sean Lewis, Sean Gordon Murphy, Ben Oliver, Stephen Segovia, Paulo Siqueira, Marc Silvestri, Marcio Takara, and Frank Quitely, as well as others he will be announcing in the coming months. All of this just continued to build on the mythology of Spawn and his world. The original SPAWN book is one of the world's bestselling and longest-running comics, with over 100 million copies sold in more than 120 countries. In 2019, McFarlane made history with the release of the historic SPAWN #300 and record-breaking SPAWN #301. These milestones have earned McFarlane the Guinness World Records title for the world's longest-running creator-owned comic book series. SPAWN #300 became the 2nd highest-selling comic title and was also the only character to place two of its issues in the Top 11 for highest-selling issues for that year. A new movie of SPAWN is currently in development with BlumHouse Studios, Jamie Foxx, and Jeremy Renner, all attached to the project as McFarlane will be making his directorial debut on the film when it goes into production.
