  1. Check out the first official trailer for "Sonic the Hedgehog 2," the forthcoming sequel to 2020's surprise hit action-adventure comedy based on the Sega video game franchise. The world's favorite blue hedgehog is back for a next-level adventure in SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2. After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when Dr. Robotnik returns, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations.   2. Paramount announced the sequel to Sonic The Hedgehog movie with a title and release date via Twitter and YouTube.
  3. Netflix, SEGA of America, Inc. ("SEGA"), and WildBrain announce a new animated Sonic the Hedgehog series, Sonic Prime, set to premiere worldwide in 2022. The 24-episode animated adventure for kids, families, and long-time fans draws upon the keystones of the brand and features the "Blue Blur" of video game fame in a high-octane adventure where the fate of a strange new multiverse rests in his gloved hands. Sonic's adventure is about more than a race to save the universe, it's a journey of self-discovery and redemption. The series will be animated at WildBrain's Vancouver studio, and SEGA and WildBrain will jointly participate across production, distribution and licensing. Man of Action Entertainment, creators of Ben 10 and the characters and team in the Academy Award-winning feature Big Hero 6, have been brought on as showrunners and Executive Producers for the series. Building on the momentum generated for Sonic in 2020 - and as the brand celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2021 - Sonic Prime aims to captivate the imaginations of audiences ages six to 11, as well as legacy Sonic fans of all ages, and will match the scale and scope of the epic adventures synonymous with the Sonic franchise. In 2020, the theatrical feature Sonic the Hedgehog, took the number one spot worldwide on opening weekend and remained on top globally for weeks while breaking domestic box office records. Producers SEGA Sammy and Paramount Pictures have announced a sequel to the feature is in development.
  4. Variety has reported that Paramount Pictures has started development on a Sonic the Hedgehog sequel. The sequel would bring back Jeff Fowler directing, and Pat Casey and Josh Miller writing the script. Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher and Toru Nakahara will be producing, while Hajime Satomi, Haruki Satomi and Tim Miller are executive producing. No information regarding the casting or production start date as the movie is still in the beginning development stages. The first film was released in February of 2020 and scored the No. 1 opening weekend of all time for a movie based on a video game, and boasted the fourth-best Presidents Day weekend debut.

Sonic the Hedgehog director Jeff Fowler announced via Twitter that the movie is being pushed back to February 14th, 2020 with the tagline, Taking a little more time to make Sonic just right. #novfxartistswereharmedinthemakingofthismovie and Sonic holding a sign stating 2-14-20. https://twitter.com/fowltown/status/1131937685700980736 The change for the November 2019 to Valentines Day, 2020 release came due to the social media backlash both he and Paramount Pictures received from Sonic fans on the characters appearance in the released trailer.   8. Paramount Pictures have announced they are bringing 'Sonic The Hedgehog' to the big-screen on November 8th, 2019. The movie currently stars cast includes James Marsden, Ben Schwartz, Natasha Rothwell, Tika Sumpter, Neal McDonough, Adam Pally and Jim Carrey. No word if the movie will be animated or live-action CGI. The film is being directed by Jeff Fowler and Dmitri Johnson and Dan Evans will co-produce, Neal H. Moritz, Toru Nakahara, Takeshi Ito will produce and Hajime Satomi, Haruki Satomi, Masanao Maeda, Nan Morales, Toby Ascher, Tim Miller will executive produce.

Deadline is reporting that Jim Carrey is negotiating to star in the Paramount film in the role of Robotnik, a villain in the live action/CGI adaptation of the hit Sega video game, Sonic The Hedgehog. The project also stars James Marsden and Tika Sumpter and is directed by Jeff Fowler. Neal Moritz, Mie Onishi and Tim Miller are producers. Pat Casey & Josh Miller wrote the script. The movie is based on the game where Sonic must stop Dr. Eggman from completing his plans for world domination is basically the gist of this one.
