  1. The Expanse actor Steven Allerick has been tapped for the role of the father of the famed G.I. Joe ninja commando for Paramount's Snake Eyes. The G.I. Joe spinoff follows Snake Eyes, who, while on the hunt for the man who murdered his father, travels to Japan and trains with the ancient Arashikage ninja clan. The Snake Eyes movie is being directed by Robert Schwentke and stars Henry Golding as Snake Eyes, Samara Weaving as Scarlett, Ursula Corbero as The Baroness and Andrew Koji as Snake Eyes’ brother and enemy, the ninja Storm Shadow. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Erik Howsam, Brian Goldner, Greg Mooradian are producing the feature, which is shooting in Vancouver and Japan and is scheduled to open October 16th. Allerick's credits include a recurring guest star on Amazon’s The Expanse, Jane the Virgin, Rosewood, Fear the Walking Dead, Speechless, and The Extant. Source: Deadline
  2. Snake Eyes brother and arch-rival Storm Shadow will be played by Andrew Koji in Paramount’s G.I. Joe: Snake Eyes, joining Henry Golding who will take on the title character. In the comic-book and past movie plotline, Storm Shadow is the brother of Snake Eyes and arch-rival who works for G.I. Joe’s main enemy, Cobra. Robert Schwentke is directing the film from a script by Evan Spiliotopoulos. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Hasbro are producing the film, which hails from Paramount, Allspark Pictures, and Skydance. 3. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding is in negotiations to star in Snake Eyes, a G.I. Joe spinoff centered on the popular Ninja Commando. The project is currently in development from Paramount with Skydance and AllSpark Pictures with Robert Schwentke directing the project that has Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Brian Goldner among the producers. Evan Spiliotopoulos wrote the script for the solo installment, which is said to center on Snake Eyes seeking revenge for his father’s death by joining ninja clan, in the process finding acceptance. Snake Eyes is a NInja Commando that first appeared as part of Hasbro's 1980s toy line, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero based off Marvel Comics. He usually wears a black bodysuit, along with a balaclava and visor to cover his face. Paramount has made two G.I. Joe movies — 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and 2013’s G.I Joe: Retaliation — with acrobatic actor Ray Park playing Snake Eyes in both.
  4. Currently being developed is a new G.I. Joe movie, a new G.I. Joe movie based on the Ninja Commando Snake-Eyes and now Paramount and Hasbro are looking to begin development on another new G.I. Joe movie based on or around the Undercover Criminal Investigations, Chuckles. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the companies have hired Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, who are writing the untitled scripted project. The character of Chuckles is not the center of the film but the project is in deep development and things could change. Appelbaum and Nemec wrote the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies as well as Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol. They are also working on Rainbow Six, the Tom Clancy-based anti-terrorism thriller set up at Paramount with Michael B. Jordan producing.
  5. Are movie studios starting to shy away from the San Diego Comic-Con? The question comes to mind as Deadline is reporting that movie studios such as Sony, Universal, Warner Bros. DC film studio and Lionsgate will not be attending the convention. Studios currently set to be attending are Disney/Marvel, Paramount and New Line. No reason for Universal, Warner Bros DC film studio or Lionsgate to not be attending but Sony does have their hands full with Spider-Man: Far From Opening opening next week and Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood upcoming on July 26th. Their promo teams have events set up for the whole year with Zombieland 2: Double Tap (October 18th), Charlie’s Angels (November 15th), The Grudge (Janaury 3rd), the comic-book feature adaptation Bloodshot starring Vin Diesel (February 21st), Blumhouse’s Fantasy Island (February 28th) and, farther out, Marvel’s Morbius (July 31st, 2020).
  6. Sonic the Hedgehog director Jeff Fowler announced via Twitter that the movie is being pushed back to February 14th, 2020 with the tagline, Taking a little more time to make Sonic just right. #novfxartistswereharmedinthemakingofthismovie and Sonic holding a sign stating 2-14-20. https://twitter.com/fowltown/status/1131937685700980736 The change for the November 2019 to Valentines Day, 2020 release came due to the social media backlash both he and Paramount Pictures received from Sonic fans on the characters appearance in the released trailer. Fowler followed up on Twitter afterwards and announced that he understands what Sonic fans want and will make it right by them. https://twitter.com/fowltown/status/1124056098925944832
  7. Variety is reporting that sources have informed them that Robert Schwentke is in early talks to direct Paramount’s "G.I. Joe" spinoff, "Snake Eyes." The script is being penned by Evan Spiliotopoulos with Brian Goldner among those producing the feature based on the Hasbro toys. Both Paramount and Hasbro has been trying to work a new spin for the G.I. Joe movies, even turning to a writers’ room to form new ideas. Snake Eyes is a silent ninja commando who dresses in all black, never reveals his face, and doesn’t speak. He stands out among the military anti-terrorist group and quickly establishes himself as the most popular. He has a special relationship with Scarlett, the team’s one-time only female member, and sometimes carries out solo missions with his pet wolf, Timber. His archenemy is Storm Shadow, a ninja who is also his blood brother.
  8. Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth were in negotiations to star in Star Trek 4 but sources say that talks between the two actors and the companies, Paramount Pictures and Skydance Media, couldn't come to an money agreement deal. Pine was due to reprise his role as iconic sci-fi hero Captain Kirk, which he has inhabited for three movies, while Hemsworth was to have played his father in a time-traveling adventure. Pine and Hemsworth want the studios to stick to existing deals as they insist they have deals in place and that the studios are reneging on them, forcing them to take pay cuts as they try to budget a movie that is following a mediocre performer. Paramount, according to insiders, contends that Trek is not like a Marvel or Star Wars movie and is trying to hold the line on a budget. The last movie, Star Trek Beyond, grossed only $343 million worldwide on a budget of $190 million. The project could recast Kirk and his father if both sides don't come to some sort of an agreement. Either way, the movie remains a priority development and is not being put on hold and for the first time in the franchise history, a female director, S. J. Clarkson is sitting in the captain’s chair. Dealmaking with other returning castmembers — including Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg and John Cho are expected to follow. Source: THR
  9. Paramount Pictures have released a official 2018 San Diego Comic-Con movie poster for Bumblebee. On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug. Bumblebee stars Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Jason Drucker, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, Ricardo Hoyos, Gracie Dzienny, Pamela Adlon, Kenneth Choi, John Ortiz Release: December 21st, 2018
