  1. Paramount’s video game division is currently developing a new AAA adventure based on the adaptation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, the graphic novel released by IDW in 2020. The Last Ronin was a five-issue miniseries, written by Kevin Eastman, based on an idea with TMNT co-creator Peter Laird in the late 1980s. Doug Rosen, senior vice president for games and emerging media at Paramount Global announced that the game will be a darker, more mature take on the Ninja Turtles and will be authentic to the story of The Last Ronin, which is set in a future where only one of the turtles has survived. Being primarily a single-character game, no information on which surviving turtle will be the main character, but other characters could be playable in flashback sequences. Rosen compared the upcoming third-person action role-playing game to Sony’s recent God of War titles. The identity of that lone remaining Ninja Turtle was something of a mystery when The Last Ronin comic series was announced. The arc’s story was built around a Ninja Turtle who wore a black mask and fought using all four turtles’ signature weapons: nunchaku, sai, bo staff, and dual katanas. It wasn’t until the final pages of the first issue of The Last Ronin that the lone surviving turtle’s identity was revealed: Michelangelo. The remaining turtles, and Master Splinter, have all been exterminated by the Foot Clan, leading Mike to seek justice for their deaths in a battle-ravaged New York City. Source: Polygon

  13. Brian Goldner, Hasbro’s chairman and CEO announced that the new G.I. Joe movie in the works along with Paramount is now targeting a theatrical release next year after initially eyeing an October 2020 roll-out delayed by the coronavirus pandemic. This announcement was made during an analyst call that second-quarter financial results fell short for earnings and revenue as the coronavirus pandemic caused production delays, hitting its Entertainment One film and TV division, and delays in its movie releases amid cinema closures. "We're working out the specifics with Paramount," Goldner told analysts. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who produced Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins and is also producing various projects based on Hasbro's Transformers brand, will produce the relaunch of the franchise with Hasbro's arm, Allspark Pictures. 14. Paramount and Hasbro has hired writer Chris Bremner to develop the screenplay for M.A.S.K, the action-adventure project based on the 1980s toy line. Bremner is credited for co-writing the latest Bad Boys franchise movie, Bad Boys for Life, which overperformed at the box office and is close to hitting $400 million worldwide. Launched simultaneously in 1985 as both a toy line and an animated series, M.A.S.K. stood for Mobile Armored Strike Kommand, an elite strike force that fought crime and terrorism, most notably an organization named V.E.N.O.M. (Vicious Evil Network of Mayhem). The brand had the tagline of “Illusion is the ultimate weapon.” Attached to direct the project is F. 17. Deadline is reporting that Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley has been picked by Hasbro’s entertainment studio eOne and Paramount to direct a big scale Transformers theatrical prequel that sources said focuses on an origin story. It takes place on Cybertron, the planet from which the good-guy and bad-guy robots came from. The film revolves around the relationship between Optimus Prime and Megatron. The film will have nothing to do with any of the live action Transformers film series and the Bumblebee spinoff. Hasbro/eOne is running point on the production of this film as making a big scale animated feature is easier than a live action tent pole because so much of the work can be done while respecting social distancing. That is an issue in the acceleration of the Transformers animated film, which has more or less begun production. The script was written by Andrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari and have been working on the animated film for several years. Both are credited with production work on Ant-Man and were the credited writers on Ant-Man and the Wasp. The movie will also star Samara Weaving as Scarlett, Ursula Corbero as The Baroness and Andrew Koji as Snake Eyes’ brother and enemy, the ninja Storm Shadow.
  19. Paramount and Hasbro are still looking to cash in on the Transformers franchise as the companies have hired Joby Harold and James Vanderbilt to pen separate scripts as they pursue concurrent development. Details of the projects were not revealed, but the companies want to give the writers a chance to build out multiple storylines and to also expand the Transformers universe. The toy brand's underlying storyline is the seemingly never-ending battle between the good robots-who-can-turn-into-cars, Autobots, and the wicked robots-who-can-turn-into-military-hardware, Decepticons. The latest Transformers movie, Bumblebee was released in December 2018. The movie was a 1980s-set spinoff focusing on one of most popular characters, though it generated the least of the entries, $468 million worldwide. Joby Harold co-wrote the upcoming Zack Snyder zombie movie, Army of the Dead and is credited for writing and working on Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, John Wick: Chapter 2 and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Para Bellum. James Vanderbilt is credited for writing David Fincher’s Zodiac and Netflix’s Adam Sandler hit, Murder Mystery. He also co-wrote the Andrew Garfield-starring Amazing Spider-Man movies and wrote and directed the newsroom drama Truth that starred Cate Blanchett and Robert Redford. Source: The Hollywood Reporter
  20. The Expanse actor Steven Allerick has been tapped for the role of the father of the famed G.I. Joe ninja commando for Paramount's Snake Eyes. The G.I. Joe spinoff follows Snake Eyes, who, while on the hunt for the man who murdered his father, travels to Japan and trains with the ancient Arashikage ninja clan. The Snake Eyes movie is being directed by Robert Schwentke and stars Henry Golding as Snake Eyes, Samara Weaving as Scarlett, Ursula Corbero as The Baroness and Andrew Koji as Snake Eyes’ brother and enemy, the ninja Storm Shadow. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Erik Howsam, Brian Goldner, Greg Mooradian are producing the feature, which is shooting in Vancouver and Japan and is scheduled to open October 16th. Allerick's credits include a recurring guest star on Amazon’s The Expanse, Jane the Virgin, Rosewood, Fear the Walking Dead, Speechless, and The Extant. Source: Deadline
  21. Snake Eyes brother and arch-rival Storm Shadow will be played by Andrew Koji in Paramount’s G.I. Joe: Snake Eyes, joining Henry Golding who will take on the title character. In the comic-book and past movie plotline, Storm Shadow is the brother of Snake Eyes and arch-rival who works for G.I. Joe’s main enemy, Cobra. Robert Schwentke is directing the film from a script by Evan Spiliotopoulos. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Hasbro are producing the film, which hails from Paramount, Allspark Pictures, and Skydance. Source: Deadline
  22. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding is in negotiations to star in Snake Eyes, a G.I. Joe spinoff centered on the popular Ninja Commando. The project is currently in development from Paramount with Skydance and AllSpark Pictures with Robert Schwentke directing the project that has Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Brian Goldner among the producers. Evan Spiliotopoulos wrote the script for the solo installment, which is said to center on Snake Eyes seeking revenge for his father’s death by joining ninja clan, in the process finding acceptance. Snake Eyes is a NInja Commando that first appeared as part of Hasbro's 1980s toy line, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero based off Marvel Comics. He usually wears a black bodysuit, along with a balaclava and visor to cover his face. Paramount has made two G.I. Joe movies — 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and 2013’s G.I Joe: Retaliation — with acrobatic actor Ray Park playing Snake Eyes in both.
  23. Currently being developed is a new G.I. Joe movie, a new G.I. Joe movie based on the Ninja Commando Snake-Eyes and now Paramount and Hasbro are looking to begin development on another new G.I. Joe movie based on or around the Undercover Criminal Investigations, Chuckles. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the companies have hired Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, who are writing the untitled scripted project. The character of Chuckles is not the center of the film but the project is in deep development and things could change. Appelbaum and Nemec wrote the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies as well as Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol. They are also working on Rainbow Six, the Tom Clancy-based anti-terrorism thriller set up at Paramount with Michael B. Jordan producing.
  24. Are movie studios starting to shy away from the San Diego Comic-Con? The question comes to mind as Deadline is reporting that movie studios such as Sony, Universal, Warner Bros. DC film studio and Lionsgate will not be attending the convention. Studios currently set to be attending are Disney/Marvel, Paramount and New Line. No reason for Universal, Warner Bros DC film studio or Lionsgate to not be attending but Sony does have their hands full with Spider-Man: Far From Opening opening next week and Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood upcoming on July 26th. Their promo teams have events set up for the whole year with Zombieland 2: Double Tap (October 18th), Charlie’s Angels (November 15th), The Grudge (Janaury 3rd), the comic-book feature adaptation Bloodshot starring Vin Diesel (February 21st), Blumhouse’s Fantasy Island (February 28th) and, farther out, Marvel’s Morbius (July 31st, 2020).
  25. Sonic the Hedgehog director Jeff Fowler announced via Twitter that the movie is being pushed back to February 14th, 2020 with the tagline, Taking a little more time to make Sonic just right. #novfxartistswereharmedinthemakingofthismovie and Sonic holding a sign stating 2-14-20. https://twitter.com/fowltown/status/1131937685700980736 The change for the November 2019 to Valentines Day, 2020 release came due to the social media backlash both he and Paramount Pictures received from Sonic fans on the characters appearance in the released trailer. Fowler followed up on Twitter afterwards and announced that he understands what Sonic fans want and will make it right by them. https://twitter.com/fowltown/status/1124056098925944832
