  1. Deadline is reporting that The CW's superhero drama Naomi won't be back for a second season. The series saw the season finale that aired last Tuesday turn into the series finale after The CW decided to pull the plug. Sources claim that the ARRAY Filmworks and Warner Bros TV produced show is talking to other outlets about continuing Naomi’s tale on streaming or higher up the dial. Naomi is the third DC series cut by The CW following the cancellation of Batwoman and Legends Of Tomorrow.

  15. The CW announced today that they are moving Naomi to series, but the Black Lightning spinoff Painkiller is not. The Naomi series follows a teenage girl’s journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the Multiverse. When a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins, and what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes. Kaci Walfall stars as the title character alongside Cranston Johnson, Alexander Wraith, Mary-Charles Jones, Barry Watson, Mouzam Makkar, Daniel Puig, Camila Moreno, Will Meyers and Aidan Gemme. The pilot is being directed and co-executive produced by Amanda Marsalis with the series written and executive produced by Ava DuVernay and Arrow writer/co-executive producer Jill Blankenship. Based on the eponymous comic book series that debuted in 2019, co-written by Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker and illustrated by breakout artist Jamal Campbell, Naomi is produced by DuVernay’s Array Filmworks in association with Warner Bros Television, with Sarah Bremner and Paul Garnes also set as executive producers. Black Lightning‘s Jordan Calloway also broke the news to his fans that his Painkiller spinoff will not be moving forward at The CW. “Painkiller will not be going forward, so let’s rip that band-aid off now,” he said. Calloway thanked fans, cast members, supporters, and The CW and WarnerMedia for “affording me the opportunity to even do a spinoff.” The spinoff would have seen Calloway reprise his role as the titular character while Black Lightning showrunner Salim Akil will write, executive produce and direct. Set to join the cast were Sibongile Mlambo, Alexander Hodge and James Roch. The planted pilot spinoff aired as the seventh episode of Black Lightning’s fourth season.

Additional cast members include Barry Watson, Mouzam Makkar, Mary-Charles Jones, Aidan Gemme, Daniel Puig and Will Meyers. The pilot was directed by Amanda Marsalis with Blankenship and DuVernay writing and executive producing.

  18. The CW announced the cast for the DC Comics drama pilot Naomi. The project is based on the 2019 Naomi comic book series and is from showrunners Ava DuVernay and Jill Blankenship. The drama stars 16-year-old Kaci Walfall in the show's titular role, about "a teen girl’s journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse. When a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins, and what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes." Joining Walfall are Alexander Wraith as Dee, Cranston Johnson as Zumbado and newcomer Camila Moreno as Lourdes. The characters are described as following: Naomi: "An effortlessly cool and confident high school student who is the adopted daughter of doting parents. Popular with all the kids in her military town, Naomi is unafraid to embrace her AP-student, comic book–loving nerdiness. After a supernatural event leads to the discovery of her powers within, Naomi pursues her hidden destiny." Dee: "The owner of a local tattoo parlor. When a strange event leaves the town in chaos, Dee hints that he knows more than he is willing to tell." Zumbado: "The mysterious owner of a local used car lot. Having heard troubling rumors about his past, Naomi actively tries to avoid him, but a tense encounter leaves her both shaken and curious." Lourdes: "A young woman with a sarcastic sense of humor who works in a vintage collectibles shop. She has an unrequited crush on Naomi, and she shares her obsession with classic comics. She is also happy to join in on Naomi’s schemes."
  19. Ava DuVernay and former 'Arrow' writer and executive producer Jill Blankenship are working with The CW in developing a series based on the DC Comics character Naomi.
