Wizkids has issued a new press release about them doing products for Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering from Wizards of the Coast. In the press release it mentions them doing action figures for these properties. If you aren't familiar, Wizkids is part of NECA Toys and Wizards of the Coast is owned by Hasbro. In recent weeks we have been seeing Hasbro licensing many of their brands like Transformers, G.I. Joe and Power Rangers out to other toy companies such as Super7, Threezero, Icon Heroes, Diamond Select Toys and Mezco. Now it looks like we can add Wizkids/NECA to that group. Wizkids while known for their gaming miniatures for such lines as Heroclix is not know for doing action figures. So we reached out to the folks at Wizkids just to clarify what we saw in the press release, that they in fact were going to be branching out doing actual action figures for these two properties. There response was: Now they wouldn't give me any other specific details on these figures like what scale, how much articulation, or what exact figures they will be doing. I know whenever the topic of D&D action figures comes up, the first comments I see from readers is they want to see figures based on the classic 80's Dungeons & Dragons animated series. I tend to doubt animated series figures will be the primary focus here, nor do I know if those are even a possibility with this licensing deal. Wizkids tells me more specific details about all their upcoming Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering products including the actions figures will be revealed soon. For now check out the entire press release below: PRESS RELEASE: WizKids, the premier manufacturer of premium pre-painted miniatures and tabletop games, today announced expansions to its vast product lines for both the highly popular role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons and strategy card game Magic: The Gathering.
