  9. NECA's Randy Falk sat down with Pixel Dan to talk about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Jaws, Defenders of the Earth and more. Some of the key takeaways from the interview include the following: There will be 4 NECA SDCC exclusives offered this year and they are looking to work with some of their retail partners so they will be made available both online and at brick and mortar stores, since the con itself has been canceled. Randy confirmed that a Rocksteady in Bunny Suit figure will be offered in one of the LootCrate bundles, to go with the Bebop in a Bunny Suit, as seen in the classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles episode “The Turtles and the Hare”. The Bebop figure is only available when you buy all the 3 Turtle crates as a bundle. The Rocksteady figure should be the one offered in the cartoon based crate, to go along with the Mirage Shredder and recently announced Arcade Electrocuted Turtle figures. For the TMNT movie line coming to Walmart, things start off in June with the Casey Jones and Raph in Disguise 2-pack. Casey's mask is not removable, however they did sculpt an unmasked head. Unfortunately they were not able to get the actors likeness rights in order to release it. After the Casey 2-pack, they will be re-releasing the 4 movie turtle figures in 2-pack form. The only real difference with these Walmart versions and the previous Gamestop ones is, the new Walmart ones will feature additional headbands. There is a Movie FOOT Clan Army Builder Pack coming and they are hoping to be able to include the weapons rack previously released in last years SDCC exclusive set. Beyond that Randy said they have two more 2-packs for the first movie coming to Walmart as well as some type of movie accessory pack. Then of course they also have the TMNT II The Secret Of The Ooze Super Shredder deluxe figure and Tokka & Rahza 2-pack. The Tokka and Rahza 2-pack will cost more than their other 2-packs and likely cost around $60, as opposed to $50. For the Target exclusive TMNT animated series line, Randy said wave 3 will be shipping soon and wave 4 will soon follow after that. By the end of the year Randy expects that they will have released around 40 different animated series figures. Randy said they are looking to release the TMNT animated series diorama that was on display at Toy Fair. Originally they were looking to first make it available during SDCC this year. Now it will likely be offered as a specialty store item with hopes of getting it out by end of year. Sometime after series 5 gets released. While NO where near being confirmed at this time of being able to happen, Randy said they had been doing some design work on possibly doing a Animated Series Sewer Lair diorama. The idea would be that it would attach to the building diorama so you would have the building above ground and the lair under the street. They have also been looking at ways of possibly doing a Party Wagon van vehicle. Randy goes on to say that they have a big expensive Turtle item coming to Target which is set to be released in mid-november, just in time for the holidays. This item is going to cost around $100. If that item sells well, it should help open the door to being able to do other things like the Sewer Lair and Party Wagon. Randy also indicated they really want to do a Usagi Yojimbo figure for the Turtles line, but that some additional negotiations still need to happen first. The Usagi character is controlled by it's creator Stan Sakai, so they need his blessing as well as Nickelodeons to make that figure happen, which Randy doesn't foresee being a problem. Randy also teased the possibility of doing characters like Napoleon Bonafrog and his entire clan. More quarter scale figures are coming as well. For the movie look for Splinter and Casey Jones to be released some time in 2021. Randy said they also plan on doing animated versions of the 4 turtles, with the idea that each will come with interchangeable facial expressions. Outside of Turtles Randy talked about things like how they have been working on a huge 30" Jaws shark figure which will feature a diorama base and articulated jaw and fins. Because of the size and cost, they may end up looking to crowdsourcing to get it released. Randy said they have a couple more Godzilla figures coming, but then after that the line will likely go on hiatus due to there being a new master toy license holder for the property. I don't think we should expect any Kong vs Godzilla products from NECA. The newly announced 7" scale Defenders of the Earth line likely won't be released until 2021. Randy hopes that either Target or Walmart will carry these figures. The plan is to release Flash Gordon, Ming the Merciless and The Phantom first, followed by Mandrake the Magician and Lothar. Other figures have been sculpted for the line which they also plan on releasing. If the line does well then they may look to expand it and do figures based on the Flash Gordon comics and animated series. Randy finished up by saying they people should look for more NECA product in general being available in more Walmart stores by September.

  16. The Criterion company is releasing the Godzilla: The Showa-Era Films, 1954–1975 Eight-Blu-Ray Special Edition Collector’s Set into stores and available for pre-order on their website for $179.96 on October 29, 2019, and it’s a colossal tribute to the granddaddy of all movie monsters. Here’s a preview of what’s inside this monumental Blu-ray collector’s set, which features fifteen films in a giant deluxe hardcover book, with new essays; new and archival interviews with cast and crew members; and much, much more! The book also features newly commissioned illustrations by Arthur Adams, Sophie Campbell, Becky Cloonan, Jorge Coelho, Geof Darrow, Simon Gane, Robert Goodin, Benjamin Marra, Monarobot, Takashi Okazaki, Angela Rizza, Yuko Shimizu, Bill Sienkiewicz, Katsuya Terada, Ronald Wimberly, and Chris Wisnia. In 1954, an enormous beast clawed its way out of the sea, destroying everything in its path—and changing movies forever. The arresting original Godzilla soon gave rise to an entire monster-movie genre (kaiju eiga), but the King of the Monsters continued to reign supreme: in fourteen fiercely entertaining sequels over the next two decades, Godzilla defended its throne against a host of other formidable creatures, transforming from a terrifying symbol of nuclear annihilation into a benevolent (if still belligerent) Earth protector. Collected here for the first time are all fifteen Godzilla films of Japan’s Showa era, in a landmark set showcasing the technical wizardry, fantastical storytelling, and indomitable international appeal that established the most iconic giant monster the cinema has ever seen. The set includes: GODZILLA (Ishiro Honda, 1954) GODZILLA RAIDS AGAIN (Motoyoshi Oda, 1955) KING KONG VS. GODZILLA (Ishiro Honda and Thomas Montgomery, 1963) MOTHRA VS. GODZILLA (Ishiro Honda, 1964) GHIDORAH, THE THREE-HEADED MONSTER (Ishiro Honda, 1964) INVASION OF ASTRO-MONSTER (Ishiro Honda, 1965) EBIRAH, HORROR OF THE DEEP (Jun Fukuda, 1966) SON OF GODZILLA (Jun Fukuda, 1967) DESTROY ALL MONSTERS (Ishiro Honda, 1968) ALL MONSTERS ATTACK (Ishiro Honda, 1969) GODZILLA VS. HEDORAH (Yoshimitsu Banno, 1971) GODZILLA VS. GIGAN (Jun Fukuda, 1972) GODZILLA VS. MEGALON (Jun Fukuda, 1973) GODZILLA VS. MECHAGODZILLA (Jun Fukuda, 1974) TERROR OF MECHAGODZILLA (Ishiro Honda, 1975) Eight-Blu-ray Special Edition Collector’s Set Features High-definition digital transfers of all fifteen Godzilla films made between 1954 and 1975, released together for the first time, with uncompressed monaural soundtracks High-definition digital transfers of Godzilla, King of the Monsters, the 1956 U.S.-release version of Godzilla; and the 1962 Japanese-release version of King Kong vs. Godzilla Audio commentaries from 2011 on Godzilla and Godzilla, King of the Monsters featuring film historian David Kalat International English-language dub tracks for Invasion of Astro-Monster, Son of Godzilla, Destroy All Monsters, Godzilla vs. Megalon, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, and Terror of Mechagodzilla Directors Guild of Japan interview with director Ishiro Honda, conducted by director Yoshimitsu Banno in 1990 Programs detailing the creation of Godzilla’s special effects and unused effects sequences from Toho releases including Destroy All Monsters New interview with filmmaker Alex Cox about his admiration for the Showa-era Godzilla films New and archival interviews with cast and crew members, including actors Bin Furuya, Tsugutoshi Komada, Haruo Nakajima, and Akira Takarada; composer Akira Ifukube; and effects technicians Yoshio Irie and Eizo Kaimai Interview with critic Tadao Sato from 2011 Illustrated audio essay from 2011 about the real-life tragedy that inspired Godzilla New English subtitle translations Trailers PLUS: A lavishly illustrated deluxe hardcover book featuring an essay by cinema historian Steve Ryfle, notes on the films by cinema historian Ed Godziszewski, and new illustrations by Arthur Adams, Sophie Campbell, Becky Cloonan, Jorge Coelho, Geof Darrow, Simon Gane, Robert Goodin, Benjamin Marra, Monarobot, Takashi Okazaki, Angela Rizza, Yuko Shimizu, Bill Sienkiewicz, Katsuya Terada, Ronald Wimberly, and Chris Wisnia
  17. Here she is, the queen herself! While mine did indeed end up nearly perfect in terms of production, I have seen a few issues from others, so be mindful of those. Great sculpt, nice display, no larva...?!, but it's still fantastic enough to maybe warrant not spending for the expensive import to possibly come soon. Thanks again, Jay!
