  1. Hasbro’s wildly popular Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game franchise has received an eight-episode, straight-to-series order from Paramount+. The pilot script for the adaptation is being written and directed by Red Notice filmmaker Rawson Marshall Thurber wrote the pilot, and will be a co-production between eOne and Paramount Pictures. eOne and Paramount Pictures are partnering on the Dungeons & Dragons series after also co-producing and co-financing the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves movie. Source: Deadline
  2. Paramount Pictures has made some changes to its release schedule, which includes Scream 6, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, and Babylon. Scream 6 is moving up from March 31st to March 10th, 2023 with Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves moving from March 3rd to March 31st, 2023. Both movies will see a nationwide release. Babylon will open nationwide on December 23rd, 2022 after initially being set for limited release on December 25th and wide release on January 6th, 2023.
  3. Entertainment One, Hasbro, Inc’s entertainment studio, announced today that it will produce the definitive documentary feature about the world’s greatest roleplaying game™. The Dungeons & Dragons® documentary will coincide with the game’s 50thanniversary in 2024. Dungeons & Dragons writer and official ambassador Joe Manganiello will co-direct with Kyle Newman and producing alongside his brother Nick Manganiello, Anthony Savini, and Cecily Tyler. Tara Long and Geno McDermott are executive producing for eOne alongside leading Dungeons & Dragons scholar Jon Peterson, Adam F. Goldberg, and Kyle Newman. “I have had the pleasure of working in the past with Joe on True Blood among other projects and cannot think of a better more passionate person to dive headfirst into the world of Dungeons & Dragons from both a player and fan perspective,” said Michael Lombardo, eOne’s Head of Global Television. “The addition of Kyle Newman, Nick Manganiello, and Jon Peterson also bring unique and multiple dimensions to the history we plan to document. As we approach 50 years of this incredible gaming universe, the time is right for an officially authorized telling of the game’s origins and current state of play to its passionate fan based from all walks of life and its global cultural impact.” “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to get back behind the camera for another documentary, this time with the D&D dream team of Jon, Kyle, and my brother and producing partner Nick. I lived through the rise and fall and rise again of this legacy brand that has not only meant so much to me but has served as the fountainhead of creativity for an entire generation of writers, artists, and creative minds, influencing so much of our culture,” said Joe Manganiello. “None of this would have been possible without Nathan Stewart at Wizards of the Coast and my eternally supportive boss from the HBO/True Blood days, Michael Lombardo and the fantastic team at eOne.” “Dungeons & Dragons has sparked the imagination of fans all over the world for nearly 50 years and we continue to bring exciting and engaging experiences to new generations,” said Cynthia Williams, Hasbro President of Wizards of the Coast and Digital Gaming, “As we approach this milestone celebration, I am excited to have a creative team with authentic passion for the brand producing what we hope will become a defining look at the World’s Greatest Roleplaying Game’s storied history.” The film will draw from over 400 hours of archived, never-before-seen Dungeons & Dragons footage going back to the game’s creation in the early 1970s, to which the Manganiellos, Newman, and Goldberg have spent the last years acquiring exclusive rights. It will also include exclusive interviews filmed during production with a variety of celebrity fans of the game. This footage, along with Wizards of the Coast’s agreement to give the production team inside access to highly confidential developments concerning the game and brand — the company’s first time authorizing such access — position this project to be the definitive documentary on the game’s soon to be half-century history. Dungeons & Dragons, one of Hasbro’s key franchise brands, is a leading fantasy entertainment franchise, fueled by the imagination of storytellers around the world. More than 50 million fans have interacted with or played D&D since it was first published 48 years ago, including videogames and livestream entertainment on Twitch and YouTube. This new Dungeons & Dragons expansion across entertainment is another example Hasbro’s Blueprint in action, delivering multichannel entertainment to fans on some of the world’s most beloved brands. The Company is actively collaborating on a number of upcoming scripted film and TV projects based on Hasbro’s storied IP. Joe Manganiello’s entertainment career spans over two decades and includes roles in the SPIDER-MAN and MAGIC MIKE franchises, as well as such television series as True Blood, How I Met Your Mother, and Love, Death & Robots. An avid Dungeons & Dragons fan and player, he is well known for hosting campaigns with a large rotation of celebrity guests, including some of the biggest names in Hollywood’s fantasy and superhero space. In 2012, Joe and brother Nick Manganiello launched 3:59 Inc., which has since feature titles including BOTTOM OF THE 9TH, starring Joe opposite Sofia Vergara, and the documentary LA BARE, Joe’s well-received directorial debut. Newman is an award-winning filmmaker and New York Times Bestselling author. His directorial credits include FANBOYS, the Star Wars-centered comedy starring Seth Rogen and Kristen Bell, and BARELY LETHAL, A24’s action-comedy starring Academy Award nominees Hailee Steinfeld and Samuel L. Jackson, and this summer’s esports comedy 1UP for Lionsgate/Prime Video. Newman earned critical acclaim for his documentary RAIDERS: THE STORY OF THE GREATEST FAN FILM EVER MADE, as well as the book “Dungeons & Dragons: Art & Arcana,” the Hugo Award finalist he wrote alongside Peterson. Peterson, a games historian and New York Times bestselling author, is the world’s foremost Dungeons & Dragons scholar. His book “Playing at the World” is widely considered an authoritative and exhaustive exploration of the game’s roots and legacy. On top of this title and “Dungeons & Dragons: Art & Arcana,” he wrote the New York Times bestselling “Heroes’ Feast: The Official D&D Cookbook,” also alongside Newman, and the MIT-published “The Elusive Shift: How Role-Playing Games Forged Their Identity” and most recently “Game Wizards.”

  5. Wizkids has issued a new press release about them doing products for Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering from Wizards of the Coast. In the press release it mentions them doing action figures for these properties. If you aren't familiar, Wizkids is part of NECA Toys and Wizards of the Coast is owned by Hasbro. In recent weeks we have been seeing Hasbro licensing many of their brands like Transformers, G.I. Joe and Power Rangers out to other toy companies such as Super7, Threezero, Icon Heroes, Diamond Select Toys and Mezco. Now it looks like we can add Wizkids/NECA to that group. Wizkids while known for their gaming miniatures for such lines as Heroclix is not know for doing action figures. So we reached out to the folks at Wizkids just to clarify what we saw in the press release, that they in fact were going to be branching out doing actual action figures for these two properties. There response was: Now they wouldn't give me any other specific details on these figures like what scale, how much articulation, or what exact figures they will be doing. I know whenever the topic of D&D action figures comes up, the first comments I see from readers is they want to see figures based on the classic 80's Dungeons & Dragons animated series. I tend to doubt animated series figures will be the primary focus here, nor do I know if those are even a possibility with this licensing deal. Wizkids tells me more specific details about all their upcoming Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering products including the actions figures will be revealed soon. For now check out the entire press release below: PRESS RELEASE: WizKids, the premier manufacturer of premium pre-painted miniatures and tabletop games, today announced expansions to its vast product lines for both the highly popular role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons and strategy card game Magic: The Gathering. The new products are slated to hit shelves worldwide beginning in 2021. Fans and players of the popular franchises can now grow their arsenal of game accessories and lifestyle products to show their affinity for their beloved brands with the arrival of new and in–demand product lines. Debut product categories include action figures, prop replicas, apparel, and even game accessories such as maps, battle mats, bags, carrying cases, and more! “As players and fans of these two popular games, we are thrilled to be creating dynamic products that will enhance the play experience for enthusiasts of these long-admired franchises,” said Justin Ziran, president at WizKids. WizKids will also offer branded, high-quality paints and paint supplies as a companion to its widely successful Nolzur’s Marvelous Miniatures line – designed for all levels of painting experience. Additionally, WizKids is adding high quality, unpainted, sprue miniatures for intermediate and veteran miniature painters. “We are excited to expand our strategic partnership with WizKids to encompass both D&D and Magic. By increasing the variety of products available in key categories, we will further enhance our fans’ experience around the gaming table and offer new collectibles and lifestyle products that allow them to show off their fandom with friends and family,” said Ann Earp, director of licensing at Wizards of the Coast. “The product quality of WizKids and their ability to tap into what fans are really looking for has grown our business exponentially for D&D, and we look forward to them bringing that same success with Magic: The Gathering products and accessories.” Expanded categories include: -D&D sprue miniatures: premium, unpainted High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS), unassembled, unprimed, miniatures on sprue -D&D action figures -D&D paint line -D&D and Magic: The Gathering artifacts & prop replicas -D&D accessories: battle mats, maps, bags & carrying cases These new product categories will join the previously announced papercraft and 2D miniatures lines.
  6. It is being reported by THR that on top of a movie, Hasbro/eOne is also looking to do a live-action TV series based on the role-play game Dungeons & Dragons. According to the report Derek Kolstad, who created and wrote the John Wick movies has been tapped to pen the story for this series. With both a movie and live-action TV series coming, I imagine it's only a matter of time before Hasbro brings us a whole line of action figures for the franchise.
