  1. Disney Original Documentary announced today its next feature project from Academy AwardⓇ-winning director Ron Howard, Academy Award-winning producer Brian Grazer and Imagine Documentaries’ Sara Bernstein and Justin Wilkes. The upcoming documentary will be the definitive portrait of Henson, produced with the full participation and cooperation of the Henson family, and will present a fascinating and intimate look at Jim’s illustrious career creating treasured characters and revolutionizing television and film. With never-before-seen personal archives, the film will give audiences an exciting first-person view into the life of one of the world’s most inspiring and iconoclastic creators through exclusive home movies, photographs, sketches, and Henson’s personal diaries. Joining Grazer, Howard, Bernstein, and Wilkes as producers is EmmyⓇ-winning Margaret Bodde (“George Harrison: Living in the Material World”). The film will be executive produced by Imagine Entertainment’s Michael Rosenberg and Disney Original Documentary’s Marjon Javadi. Howard will also be reteaming with his “Pavarotti and Beatles: Eight Days A Week – The Touring Years” collaborators Mark Monroe and Paul Crowder, who serve as the writer/producer and editor/executive producer, respectively. In his 36-year career, Jim Henson created some of the world’s most cherished characters, including classic Muppets like Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy and all of “Sesame Street”’s iconic residents, including Big Bird, Grover, Cookie Monster, and Bert and Ernie. He also created beloved fantasy films like “The Dark Crystal” and “Labyrinth,” which included iconic characters and technological advances that pushed the boundaries of the time. Tracing his life and work, the documentary will follow how the brilliant innovator came to shape the childhoods of generations to come. In a statement, Jim Henson’s family said, “The Jim Henson Company’s archive is a treasure reflecting our father’s work, personal life, and inspirations, and has been carefully maintained for the last 30 years under the leadership of archivist Karen Falk. It will be thrilling to see the story that emerges from these materials in the hands of a truly great filmmaker like Ron Howard, who has the perfect spirit and personality to tell Jim Henson’s story. “Jim Henson transcends generations through his iconic characters, and it’s one of the many reasons why I have been a lifelong fan,” said director Howard. “I can’t wait to share a side of him and his career that people have never seen before. Henson’s limitless imagination and restless creativity is like few others and has influenced so much of our world as we know it. I’m humbled to be able to share a deeper look into his life and story.” “Jim Henson has impacted our culture for generations, and his creative legacy continues to live on,” said Disney Original Documentary Vice President Marjon Javadi. As iconic storytellers in their own right, Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, Sara Bernstein, and Justin Wilkes are the best auteurs to share Jim Henson’s story with the world. We’re thrilled to be partnering with the team at Imagine Documentaries and the Henson family on this undoubtedly inspirational film.” The untitled film on Jim Henson is produced by Imagine Documentaries for Disney Branded Television under the Disney Original Documentary banner. The Disney Original Documentary banner will largely produce and acquire content for Disney+, as well as the suite of Disney Channels, with more announcements coming soon.

  3. The Warner animation group is developing the animated feature The Metal Men, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The animated feature will be headed up by the Disney team of Ron Clements and John Musker, who created such movies as The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and The Princess and the Frog. The animated team will be jumping ship to DC and will team up with writer Celeste Ballard for the project. Ballard worked on Space Jam: A New Legacy. Clements and Musker are producing and have written the treatment for the film, which they are eyeing to direct. Craig Peck is executive producing. Allison Abbate, the former producer (The Iron Giant, The Corpse Bride) and now head of WAG, is shepherding the project for the studio. The Metal Men is based on DC Comics heroes created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru in 1962, the concept revolves around a brilliant scientist, William Magnus, and his creations: six highly advanced robots who have powers and personalities associated with their respective metals — gold, iron, lead, tin, mercury, and platinum. The group had its title in the 1960s and then made frequent appearances throughout the DC Universe in the ensuing decades. The stories have vacillated in tone from comedic to somber, with the group at times being on the run from government agents or even being robot assassins. The group sometimes incorporated a whole periodic table’s worth of metal elements as new characters.

For those not familiar with the series, despite being a Disney property was known at the time for having a fairly dark tone and told the story of ancient nocturnal creatures who were living in modern New York City. 6. he folks at Fwoosh sat down with Super7's Brian Flynn where he where he talked about various products including Ultimates ThunderCats and TMNT figures. Highlights from the interview include the following: ThunderCats have been planned out so far through wave 7 with 4 waves coming 2021. Brian stated the primary source material used for these figures is the classic cartoon and not the vintage toy line. Wave 2 are the last figures being made at the original factory Mattel used for the line. Starting with Wave 3 they have gone back to their own factories for ThunderCats. The wave 2 figures because of the Mattel factory, is likely going to see their release delayed until after the Chinese New Year, which takes place in February. Wave 3 however should see release a month later followed by wave 4 a month after that. Due to the delay of wave 2, there is a possibility they will do something special as an apology for the delay. Wave 5 won't be revealed until wave 2 ships. The 1st wave of TMNT Ultimates figures will almost definitely be re-issued with minor alterations, so folks who missed out on the initial release can still get them at a reasonable cost. The minor alteration will likely be something like a slight variation to the weapons rack colors. Wave 2 should ship out from the factory in October/November. Wave 3 will ship out from the factory after the Chinese New Year in March. The April O'Neil headsculpt has been drastically changed since the images we saw. It will have a much more cartoon feel to it. There will also be an alternate head with headphones on. They will be incorporating variant Turtles in the line. Wave 4 will be revealed and go up for pre-order in October. A Ultimates Usagi Yojimbo figure will be coming in 2021. Like ThunderCats, they have already planned out TMNT through wave 7. For their Disney Ultimates line they are looking to do straight up plain Disney characters right now like a standard Mickey Mouse. They are looking to do more off the beaten path characters. By the time they get to wave 6 and 7 Brian feels like you will be able to see a pattern of what they are trying to accomplish with the line. Robin Hood will be in wave 2 which will be shown in January. They have 4 waves planned for 2021.

  15. Super7 is thrilled to announce the beginning of what we imagine will be an amazing creative partnership between Super7 and our childhood heroes over at Disney. It begins today, with the launch of our first three Disney collectibles: a trio of Ultimates! Figures commemorating some of our favorite characters from the formative years of the Magic Kingdom. It will continue with...well, you’ll just have to wait and see. Ultimates! Figures are the perfect medium for our Disney launch. They provide an opportunity to serve up all bells and whistles; the ability to create something truly unique for both the Super7 and Disney obsessive fan. Our approach, as with everything, was to dig beneath the surface to find the spirit and the angles that allow us to make the toys we always wanted. The details expressed in each Ultimates! Figure are unrivaled; exactly what you want when you’re working with the classics. And the care taken to create each? That, too, is on another level. As to who gets this very special treatment, we dove deep and emerged with a few that have always held a special place in our hearts. Ones that represent the Super7 way of looking at the world. Here’s the exclusive lineup: Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey Mouse From the timeless animated classic Fantasia comes Mickey Mouse, in the role that captured our imaginations as far back as we can remember. We used that same kind of big dreaming, hustle, know-how and a little bit of magic to bring this little marvel to life. Our first Disney toy ever is super poseable and features three interchangeable expressive heads, interchangeable hands, two water buckets, animated broom, axe and the Sorcerer’s giant spell book. The Ultimates Sorcerer’s Apprentice is also dressed in a tailored, velvety-soft wizard robe with a real rope tied waistband. Pinocchio One of the darkest, wildest, most incredible stories ever set to animation cels, Pinocchio gave us nightmares for years, and a hard-won set of lessons for the rest of our lives. The puppet with a penchant for tall tales and a curiosity for life reflected our deep yearning for adventure, and to fit in – perfectly telling the tale of becoming the person you’re meant to be. Super7’s Ultimates! Pinocchio is a super poseable action figure with 3 interchangeable heads showing his growing nose, interchangeable hands, his conscience Jiminy Cricket (of course), school book, axe, apple, Cleo’s fishbowl, Figaro the Cat, and a smart fabric vest with gold trim. Prince John Truly one of the great cartoon villains, Prince John and his maneless, spineless monarchy is a masterclass in political mismanagement; one he pays dearly for. Particularly with Robin Hood stealing John’s resources any time his back is turned. The Prince John Ultimates! super poseable action figure features three interchangeable heads, interchangeable hands with and without the jewels of his rings, two versions of the slithering assistant Sir Hiss, a vanity mirror, and a luxurious, plush velvet regal robe with fur trim. These will be priced individually at $45 or in a set for $135. Once again, we’re thrilled that Disney has given us this rare opportunity to bring our point of view to characters and experiences that helped define our own childhood. We hope you like them—and we can’t wait to show you what else we’re making from our favorite Disney moments from film, TV, and Parks.

  17. The ShopDisney Japan website has listed a new Star Wars Elite Series die-cast figure with the Empire Strikes Back Imperial Probe Droid. It is listed as being a limited release and looks to cost around $50 US. The Disney Elite Series has been on a bit of hiatus and the figures which are made with die-cast metal tend to be a bit taller than Hasbro's Black Series figures. They are also are only sold at Disney Stores. The legs do appear to be articulated and it comes with a display stand. The antenna's on the top look to be removable. No word yet on when or if this figure will be available in the US, but it looks like it may be a nice alternative to Hasbro's recently released version.
