  1. It's Wednesday and you know what that means... ToyFarce review! This week, we're having a look at the latest 2 offerings from the Star Ace Toys Batman Ninja 1/6 figure line, Harley Quinn and the Modern Suit version of Batman. Yes, this is a double review! Star Ace Toys happened to release both these figures at the same time, and I didn't feel like doing 2 separate reviews for those (I like my variety!). Like mentioned in the previous reviews of those figures (Batman Ninja, Joker, Catwoman), I know that the Batman Ninja anime is very divisive: the story is bonkers, there are samurai fights and mechas made of monkeys and bats, but it's so "out there" that i can't help it: it's a guilty pleasure. Also, I really love the character designs in it. The feudal japan take on the characters was pretty awesome. First off, Harley Quinn. The box is gorgeous, like all the boxes from that line. Kudos to the packaging designer! This is the deluxe version so there is an extra insert, cleverly hidden under the first one, with the extra pieces. Harley comes with extra hands, a large rattle drum (looking just like her usual giant mallet), a gourd, a bomb and a flower bomb. The "Deluxe" parts are the extra smiling face plate, an extra gun and an extra hand (to hold the extra gun). Both faceplates are held by magnets and both include moveable eyes, which is pretty great in a day and age when Hot Toys seems to be stingy with the moveable eyes... Just like Catwoman, Harley has a seamless body, in all its weird squishiness. Good articulation, but a bit hindered by the seamless body, which won't let you bend her leg too high as it just goes back down because of the rubber. For example, that pose in the promo pics where she had a foot on her large rattle drum? That won't happen, which is kinda sad. The outfit has great tailoring, another thing that Star Ace Toys seems to know how to do very well. Both heads look really good, even if she does look a bit more on the anime side than the other figures. Definitely looks like a Harley Quinn, though, so why complain? The Modern Suit Batman... is kind of a weird release, I'll admit. We see the 'current day' Batman only for a few minutes in the anime, and it's really not the reason why one would watch a movie called 'Batman Ninja', but the figure did come with light-up feature and a really nice Bruce Wayne headsculpt, so I picked it up too. (Wait... Bruce Wayne is Batman?!). Like Harley, the figure comes with a second 'hidden' insert in the box, with the extra accessories for the Deluxe version. Batman comes with extra hands, 2 batarangs (one with a magnet, which we'll get back to in a minute), and a grappling gun. The Deluxe version adds the unmasked headsculpt, a spear, 2 bombs, the quake engine and a fun japanese arrest warrant. The figure has a light up feature on the chest and in the head. For the chest, you just need to add a small battery in the back of the figure, and a little switch, while for the head, there is a removable part (see pic), to add a battery in. To turn the head light on, you need to use the batarang with the magnet and just touch the forehead of the figure for the light to turn on. (Freaking magnets, how do they work?!). The suit is a bit like the Ninja version, a mix of rubbery/faux leather, which is a bit thick and hinders articulations A LOT, and plastic parts on top. If you keep him in a static pose, it looks awesome. If you want more dynamic poses, it might not be for you. The figure still looks gorgeous on a shelf though. Another nitpick is that it's slightly bigger than its Ninja counterpart, while you would imagine the Ninja one to be bigger with all the armor on. It is a bit odd and he looks like he's in a different scale. Here are all the Batman Ninja figures from Star Ace Toys. The next one should be a version 2.0 of the Batman Ninja one, and there's even a version that comes with a 1/6 freaking horse (!), but I think i will pass on those, as I am running out of space on that Batman Ninja shelf... Time will tell! More news at 11:00... Go ninja go ninja go!
  2. It's Wednesday and you know what that means... ToyFarce review! (This is my first review on Toy News International, so bear with me, as I'll have to figure out a way to adapt to the usual "pictures with jokes under" format. We'll get there!). This week, we're having a look at the 1/6 scale figure of Catwoman from the Batman Ninja animated movie, by Star Ace Toys. First things first: Yes, Batman Ninja, the "anime" movie…was not great. It was wacky and pretty bad, but at the same time, so much fun! There’s samurai battles, and even giant mechas made of monkeys and bats fighting! I'm not kidding! I already had the Batman and Joker from that line, so I picked up Catwoman to complete the set (for now!). The box looks really nice, with a shadow silhouette of Catwoman in front of a moon. On the back, we can see all the characters in the same style. The weird thing is that the 'Deluxe version' bonus parts come in a separate blank box. For Batman and Joker, the extra pieces were inside the same box, but for some reason, Catwoman gets an extra blank box with those. I can only imagine people tossing the extra blank box thinking it was just padding inside the shipping box... The figures looks pretty great, like the 2 previous offerings from Star Ace, with a very nice headsculpt, nice tailoring on the suit, and comes with extra hands (fists and open fists to hold the whip), claws add-ons for her hands, her mask and her trusted whip. The bonus parts from the Deluxe version are extra cat paws covers for her hands, and Isis, her cat (who comes with a mismatching wired tail). The figure uses a seamless body, which is not to everyone's liking. Those feel squishy and weird, and since she has an outfit that covers her entire body, it doesn't really matter if there are articulations or not. Oh well... At least it poses nicely. The hands are a severe pain in the butt to change, though: The seamless body has a metal skeleton and the hands fit on tiny metal balls and you have to really force them while pushing the arm forward, and the squishy skin moves forward and covers the metal balls... it's a headache. Also, the figure was supposed to have moveable eyes but I have yet to figure how we are supposed to do that (it might have been skipped...). Star Ace has already announced a few more figures from that movie, such as a Harley Quinn, a modern Batman, and a 2.0 version of the Ninja Batman that even comes with a 1/6 scale horse figure! Exciting!

  11. From the animated film "Batman Ninja" comes a 1/6th scale statue of the main character, Ninja Batman. The figure is based on an original art piece by character designer Takashi Okazaki, and will be limited to 1000 pieces worldwide. Standing approximately 700mm in height, the overwhelming presence of the figure cannot be denied, and the fabric of his outfit as well as the chainmail have been sculpted with careful attention to the texture together with intricate airbrush paintwork. The pose features Ninja Batman with his Sengoku Batman armor removed, jumping up into the air capturing a dynamic moment in exquisite detail for fans to enjoy in their collection. The cut rope that swirls around the main figure is sculpted with a waving motion as if just cut, further adding to the depth of the movement captured with the figure. The base of the figure is designed to look like a crumbling roof of a Japanese castle to capture the setting of the series, with each of the tiles and the wooden frame beneath sculpted with great care. The finer features of the figure beg to be looked at in close detail, and no matter what angle you choose to look from the figure boasts superb sculptwork. Batman Ninja: Takashi Okazaki Ver. is a high-quality art piece, and only 1000 will be made available worldwide. Each product will be engraved with a unique serial number. You can pre-order this now at BigBadToyStore.com.
