THR is reporting that Warner Bros. is looking to do a spinoff from the Aquaman movie and have hired newbie scribes Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald to pen a horror-tinged script centered on the Trench, the deadly amphibious creatures seen attacking the hero and his love, Mera, in Aquaman. Details about the plot are being kept secret but it will be set in the kingdom of the Trench and will not feature the main cast of Aquaman. The Trench creatures are new to the Aquaman lore, having been introduced in the comics only in 2011 when DC did a revamp of its entire publishing line. They are revealed to be part of the kingdom of Atlantis but when it sunk, inhabitants who were cut off from other survivors and evolved into ravenous monsters. The project, titled The Trench will be produced by James Wan and Peter Safran and will be more modestly budgeted than the normal DC superhero tentpole.

Warner Bros. is taking the next Batman movie in a new direction which will not be including Ben Affleck. The next Batman movie has been set for June 25th, 2021 and will be focusing on a younger Bruce Wayne. A search is underway for a new Dark Knight. Affleck confirmed the original report by Deadline via Twitter with the message: Excited for #TheBatman in Summer 2021 and to see @MattReevesLA vision come to life. Matt Reeves has been attached to the project as both a writer and director in February 2017, taking over for Affleck who was originally set to direct off a script he wrote with DC’s Geoff Johns. Sources have confirmed that the new Batman movie will not be based on Frank Miller’s Batman: Year One comic which is one of Reeves’ favorites in the Caped Crusader canon.

Mattel, Inc. and Warner Bros. Pictures Group today announced a partnership to bring Hot Wheels®, the iconic and timeless toy racing car, to theaters in the first ever live-action feature film for the beloved multi-generational franchise. The Hot Wheels movie marks the second partnership for Mattel Films and Warner Bros. Pictures, and it follows the companies' recent announcement of the Barbie feature-film starring and co-produced by Academy Award® nominated actress Margot Robbie. Ynon Kreiz, Mattel's Chairman and CEO said: "We are excited to bring the thrill of a Hot Wheels live-action feature film to the big screen in partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures. Hot Wheels debuted in 1968 and has sold more than six billion individual cars during its storied, 50-year history. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today announced Mortal Kombat 11, the newest game in the award-winning franchise. The official Mortal Kombat 11 Announce Trailer sets the stage for an epic, time bending story and features an original music track created in collaboration with multi-platinum selling rapper 21 Savage. Mortal Kombat 11 is developed by award-winning NetherRealm Studios and is scheduled for release beginning April 23, 2019 for PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, PlayStation®4 Pro computer entertainment system, the Xbox One family of devices including the Xbox One X, Nintendo Switch™ system and PC. The song by 21 Savage featured in the trailer is titled “Immortal” and overlays scenes of an epic battle between two iconic characters, Dark Raiden and Scorpion, with a tease of a new character who is at the center of Mortal Kombat 11’s story. Mortal Kombat 11 will make its first gameplay debut at Mortal Kombat 11: The Reveal, a highly experiential, community celebration of Mortal Kombat, taking place at 11 a.m. PST on Jan. 17, 2019 in Los Angeles and 7 p.m. UTC in London. Mortal Kombat 11: The Reveal will be livestreamed globally at www.twitch.tv/NetherRealm and will feature a keynote presented by NetherRealm Studios. The event will also include the first opportunity for hands-on with Mortal Kombat 11 gameplay, tournaments and other Mortal Kombat themed activities. Mortal Kombat 11 deepens and personalizes the experience unlike ever before with an all new Custom Character Variation System that gives players the creative control of building customized versions of the character roster. Warner Bros. is looking to get Ewan McGregor to play the Batman villain Black Mask in the Harley Quinn spinoff, “Birds of Prey.” The studio became interested in McGregor for the role when Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jurnee Smollett-Bell joined the cast as Huntress and Black Canary. Birds of Prey will have the Huntress, Black Canary, and Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn battling Black Mask, a kingpin in Gotham City’s criminal underworld who has a fixation with masks. Rosie Perez is set to play Gotham City police detective Renee Montoya. The project is being directed by Cathy Yan and looking to premiere on February 7th, 2020. Source: Variety

Warner Bros. has decided to hold off on the release of Wonder Woman 1984 until the Summer of 2020. The news was also confirmed by Wonder Woman 1984 star Gal Gadot via Twitter "Super excited to announce that, thanks to the changing landscape, we are able to put Wonder Woman back to its rightful home. June 5, 2020. Be there or be square!!!" “We had tremendous success releasing the first Wonder Woman film during the summer so when we saw an opportunity to take advantage of the changing competitive landscape, we did,” Warner Bros. said in a statement. “This move lands the film exactly where it belongs.” Wonder Woman 1984” will be helmed by acclaimed director Patty Jenkins, and star Gal Gadot in the title role. As previously announced, the film also stars Kristen Wiig in the role of the Super-Villain The Cheetah, as well as Pedro Pascal. And Chris Pine returns as Steve Trevor. Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, Patty Jenkins, Stephen Jones and Gal Gadot are producing the film. Rebecca Roven Oakley, Richard Suckle, Wesley Coller, Geoff Johns and Walter Hamada are the executive producers. Production will take place in Washington, D.C., Alexandria, Virginia, and in the UK, Spain and the Canary Islands.

The new five-minute-long newly-released extended trailer from the standalone DC movie, which follows the events of "Justice League" and focuses on Aquaman's adventurous quest to search for the mythical Trident of Poseidon, so he can unite the seven kingdoms of Atlantis and challenge his power-hungry half-brother, Orm (played by Patrick Wilson) for the throne. From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, "Aquaman," starring Jason Momoa in the title role. Principal photography has begun on Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Joker,” starring Oscar nominee Joaquin Phoenix in the title role, alongside Oscar winner Robert De Niro, and directed, produced and co-written by Oscar nominee Todd Phillips. “Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck (Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale. Waldman, Zach Shields, Yoshimitsu Banno and Kenji Okuhira serving as executive producers and Alexandra Mendes co-producing for Legendary. A presentation of Warner Bros.
