  1. New to the forums but been a longtime browser of TNI--love this site! I wanted to share a couple of custom painted vintage Masters of the Universe playsets: Grayskull and Snake Mountain. I absolutely love MOTU and as I was gearing up my anticipation to collect the Origins line, I wanted to revisit Grayskull and Snake Mountain with an updated paint application. I normally don't like the idea of touching a vintage toy, however, I believed there was a killer playset waiting to come alive from behind the subpar and uneven factory paint job given to both sets. After priming and dry-brushing applications using acrylics (standard colors and vibrant neons for SM). The only portion sprayed on is the primer I used as the rest was hand brushed. I only amplified the amazing details that were already there. Grayskull's interior was painted with purples and blues (with stars added) to give off a mystical effect of universal power emanating from the Castle. I was inspired by the colors and themes from the original mini comics. I left the accessories alone as their vibrant, flat colors was a nice contrast that actually made it feel (for me) as though this scene popped directly from the comic pages. For Snake Mountain, the interior paint work was highly influenced by Youtuber "Count Stankus" who gave his custom a Monster Golf /fun-house 'glow' vibe--a great 80s look for a great 80s toy! I took notes off his work because he really nailed the effect. Either way...displayed is my love for ALL things MOTU and my process leading to the final product....hope you enjoy and thank you for letting me share!
  2. Hello. Here's a custom figure I just finished. I had a beat Star Wars Luke Skywalker in X-Wing pilot gear and a broken Robotech Max Sterling figure, so I combined the two. I used Acrylicos Vallejo paint for the limbs, and magnets to connect the joints. Enjoy.
  3. The guys over at Yakface have done some digging and discovered news listings on the Walmart website indicating a 3rd wave of 6" Black Series figures featured on Vintage Kenner Empire Strikes Back cardbacks is in the works from Hasbro. Of course until Hasbro finally gets around to confirming this, we will treat this as rumor. The figures they found listed include the following: - Snowtrooper - Luke Skywalker (Dagobah) - We assume the same one coming in the recently announced 2-Pack with Yoda - Chewbacca - Boba Fett - Darth Vader So unlike wave 2 which saw new figures being released such as the Rebel Snowtrooper and Snowspeeder Outfit Luke (Those figures will see release in the regular Black Series as well), these all appear to be simple re-issues on the Kenner-like cardbacks. These are not listed as Walmart exclusives, so they should end up being released everywhere like the first two waves. Wave 1 and 2 are hitting shelves now. We will update this story as more details become available.
  4. This year marks the 40th anniversary of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, an iconic film that has captivated audiences worldwide for decades with its story and characters. In 1979, before the landmark film had even hit theaters, references to the mysterious character Boba Fett™ based on early costume tests and coloration were revealed. So began the legendary status among the fandom surrounding the legendary bounty hunter who instantly became a favorite of many after witnessing him in the groundbreaking film! While escaping from the Empire, the small band of rebels aboard the Millennium Falcon seek asylum in Cloud City above the gas mines of Bespin. 15. Imo, one of the biggest oversights in the vintage line, was the lack of Cloud City playset(s). Sure the Micro Collection had a few, but, for 3 3/4", there was just a cardboard display. Recently, I started thinking, customs-wise, what if Kenner had reused one of their other playsets, to create a Cloud City environment? They'd done it numerous times, 'Old West'/Cantina, Land Of The Jawas/Hoth bases, Ewok Village/Robin Hood, etc...What if the vintage Death Star playset had been reused, with a few modifications, to create Cloud City? I haven't tried sketching any of this, let alone , made any mock-ups, but, what about this... Top level,: still cast in white, but, cannon is removed, replaced by 'Cloud City 'sculpture' or furniture from Han & Leia's room. This level doubles as Han & Leia's room/Dining room/ battle area. 'tractor beam'/elevator/roof recast in bronze or white? 2nd Level: still cast in black, is Vader duel area, cardboard slider portrays carbon Freeze area, maybe with 'window' flaps' allowing figure to fly through 3rd Level: recast in black w/ orange decals, 'trap door' 'becomes 'carbon freeze', 'lowering mechanism' replaces trash compactor. I'd also add some sort of 'gantry attachment to outside wall, below 'window'. Bottom level houses mechanism to lover Han/switch out carbonite; although outside wall could also double as East Platform w/ Slave 1 or Platform 327 w/ Falcon Granted, this would take a lot of modification, esp the reworked top and bottom levels, carbon freeze,, and gantry add-on, but, man, I wish I had the budget and/or skills to pull this off, lol
