It's Wednesday and you know what that means... ToyFarce review! This week, we're having a look at the Michelangelo as The Mummy figure from the Universal Monsters x Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle line by NECA. This figure was available early as part of the Target Fall Geekout event and will be released everywhere else later. Michelangelo is the third turtle from that line to get the Universal Monsters makeover, after Raphael and Leonardo. The very first impression, after being spoiled with HUGE figures for Raphael and Leonardo, is that this one is definitely on the smaller side. The box has a 'normal' size compared to the previous 2 (or same size as April's box). The box art is gorgeous, as usual, and might be my favorite of the 4 released figures. Michelangelo comes with an additional head sculpt (more on that later), 2 extra pairs of hands, a bendable cobra, 2 Ankh nunchucks and extra pieces of bandage to hang on him. The figure is definitely smaller than the other previously released turtles, but what he lacks in size, he has in details. The details on that figure are great, just like the 3 previous figures from that line. He has Egyptian hieroglyphs on his shell, and extra bandages to add on his arms. The second headsculpt is a fantastic addition, as it is an homage to the rotting Leonardo mask from the third movie, TMNT III from 1993, that popped up in some auction a few years ago, with the same dead eyes and teeth. The next ones in that line should be Splinter as Van Helsing, Donatello as the Invisible Man and Casey Jones as the Phantom of the Opera. More news at 11:00... Walk like an Egyptian turtle...

It's Wednesday and you know what that means... ToyFarce review! This week, we're having a look at the Leonardo as The Hunchback figure from the Universal Monsters x Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle line by NECA. This figure was available early as part of the Target Fall Geekout event and will be released everywhere else later. When it was announced, I didn't have much expectations for that one, actually. Leonardo is a cool turtle, but the Hunchback? Why the Hunchback when there are perfectly fine other monsters, like Dracula, the Werewolf, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, etc... still available?! Well, it turns out that, once you have it in hand, it's a pretty amazing figure! The box for this one is HUGE! I should have taken a pic next to the other boxes. It's taller and way deeper than the other Universal Monsters x TMNT figures. That big shell of his does take a lot of space! Leonardo as The Hunchback comes with 3 extra pairs of hands, a skull, a brain in a jar, a pair of shovels, a bone, his katanas, and fire effects for the katanas (that's new!). The details on the figure are perfect in their creepiness (he has spiders crawling all over, etc) and the awesome feature of that one is that his shell opens to reveal... a lot of storage space! Remember, when we were kids, and we could store the extra weapons of our turtles inside their shells? It's the same concept, but gloomier. First, there is a huge lock on the side, and once open, you can see a couple of shelves (to display the skull and the brain jars, with pegs for them to be secure), you can put the katanas through the shell (ouch!), and it keeps the shovels and bones in place on the other side. That figure has great sculpt and details, and I ended up preferring it to the Raphael as Frankenstein, even though I had no expectation for it to be that good. April O'Neil as the Bride of Frankenstein and Michaelangelo as the Mummy were also part of the Target Fall Geekout event, and will be the next 2 reviews, as part of the October Spooky month theme. It's Wednesday, and you know what that means... ToyFarce reviews! This week, we're having a look at the 4 main turtles from the Super7 Ultimates! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles line. When the first few waves were announced, I skipped on them since there was only one turtle per wave, and wanted to wait to see how they were in-hand. After a few waves were announced, they started to come out and then, the secondary market prices started to creep up, and I just made my peace with the fact that I missed out on those. I thought I can't really get into a line if I don't have the main characters, right? Thankfully, last summer, Super7 announced that they would sell all 4 turtles as a bundle, with a re-issue of the first one that came out (Raphael). So... I got them! First things first, the packaging. Super7 always does an excellent job with the packaging and the unboxing experience. Each comes with its own shipper boxes, and a nice sleeve for that 'deluxe' effect. The boxes have an amazing design, where you can see the figure with all its accessories through a window (remember those?). Raphael, who used to be my favorite growing up (I lost mine in a river as a kid, so there's some trauma involved). That figure comes packed with accessories: a new and improved head, 8 extra hands, extra sais (the figure already had some on his belt, but there were additional ones), communicators (open and closed), a slice of pizza and the same 'weapon rack' that the original figures from 1988 came out with (along with those same weapons "painted and ready to use!"). Great nostalgia trick! (Can you imagine if today's collector reviewed the original figures? "What? No thigh swivel? No biceps swivel? Complete absence of ab-crunch! The head is soft, this is BS!" Thank god those came out when we were children...). Leonardo was in the second wave of figures, and comes with the same amount of accessories, except that he has katanas instead of sais (duh!), and has one less pair of hands. The articulation on those figures is pretty great, and they really are a love letter to the old ones, all while being a huge improvement/modern version at the same time. Michaelangelo, from wave 3, comes with similar accessories as the other ones, except he has a whole pizza box instead of just one slice, and a grappling hook instead of communicators. He also comes with 2 version of his nunchukus: either all plastic and straight, or with actual chains. Last but not least, the best turtle, Donatello, from wave 4. Donnie comes with the same plethora of accessories, with 2 bo staffs (in case he loses one?). And that finally completes the set of our 4 favorite turtles. Super7 did a great job at making at making those figures look just like the old ones, while being up to modern standards. The old head sculpts are spot on, and the newer versions are definitely nice to look at (Raphael being the best one of the 4, with a bit more details). $45 per figure is definitely not great, but the argument of Super7 being a smaller company and needing to have slightly higher prices also makes sense (plus, it beats paying triple on ebay). Still, I'm happy with them. I don't think I will go all-in on the line, but I do think i might have to go back and look for a couple of them... I hear Bebop and Rocksteady are awesome figures. It's Wednesday and you know what that means... ToyFarce Reviews! This week, we're having a look at the Power Rangers x Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Lightning Collection two-packs by Hasbro (minus the Morphed Shredder which has yet to fall in my pile of loot!). For those unaware, those come from a great comic book crossover by IDW Publishing and Boom Studios, where the Power Rangers and the Ninja Turtles cross paths, and eventually the Ninja Turtles end up suiting up using the Power Rangers morphers and coins. It's a fun read! But how about those figures? It's Morphin' Time! The first two-pack released was the Red ranger Raphael with Tommy as a foot soldier. In the comic book, Tommy (yes, that Tommy, the Green Ranger!) has joined forces with Shredder and the Foot clan. Raphael is a great figure, with tons of articulations (double elbows, double knees, etc), and comes with an unmasked head, 4 extra hands, his trusted weapons, the sais and some effects for them. Tommy comes with a regular foot soldier head, a facemask to cover his face, along with a facemask that is pulled down, extra hands, a katana, lightning effects for the katana and a punch effect. The second one had Leonardo and Donatello, as the Blue and Black ranger, respectively (yeah, there was no purple ranger in Mighty Morphin', so black will have to do...). They both come with an unmasked head, 4 extra hands, their weapons (katanas for Leo and a bo staffs/axes for Donnie), along with some effects for them. Just like Raph, they are very cool figures, can be displayed in tons of action poses,... I mean, come on. They're Power Rangers Ninja Turtles! Even if they had 5 points of articulation, they'd probably still be cool! The third two-pack had the Yellow ranger Michaelangelo (once again, no orange, so close enough), and the Pink ranger April O'Neil. The turtle comes with the usual unmasked head, extra hands, weapons and effects, and April also has a camera, a microphone (so she can still fulfill her journalist duties), a bow and arrow + effect, and a blaster. Out of all 4 turtles, Michaelangelo has the most derpy unmasked head, followed very closely by Donatello. The Green Ranger Shredder has started to appear in stores, so it shouldn't be long before he joins the other ones. There's a lot of fun crossovers in comic books these days, and I hope we can get more of those fun 'special events' toys. I'd love a Transformers/Star Trek transforming Enterprise, for example... In the last few months, we've had an abundance of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Party Wagon (aka Turtle Van). Playmates re-issued the 1989 version of the Turtle Party Wagon, Super7 opened the pre-orders for their own version of it to go with their TMNT Ultimates figure line, a third party brand came up with their own, and this week, NECA revealed their version of the Cartoon Turtle Van, for their line of Cartoon TMNT (pre-orders are now open, and a payment plan is available, in case NECA already made you spend a ton of money on turtles this month). We, at ToyFarce, would like to point out that Playmates also re-issued the Turtle Blimp recently. Just saying. Not implying anything... but if any of those brands wanted to give it a shot, that would be ok with us. Definitely. More news at 11:00... Everybody is Ninja Turtle-crazy! Last weekend, during what should have been the New York Toy Fair, several new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles products were revealed: -Playmates announced a Last Ronin figure, out of nowhere. -NECA announced a ton of new TMNT figures, from the cartoon, the comics and also, their own version of the Last Ronin. -Finally, Mezco surprised everybody by revealing a One:12 collective 4-pack of the Ninja Turtles. Off the top of my head, here are the toy brands that have done Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles products: Playmates, NECA, Super7, The Loyal Subjects (BST AXN figures), Mezco (One:12 collective), Bandai (S.H. Figuarts), Kaiyodo (Revoltech), Mattel (Hot Wheels, Mega Construx), Hasbro (Power Rangers x TMNT figures), DC Direct (Batman vs TMNT figures), ThreeZero (one sixth figures), Good Smile Company (mini statues), Prime1, PCS, Sideshow Collectibles (High-end statues),... I am probably missing more than a few. It was only a matter of time before Todd McFarlane decided to try his hands at our favorite mutant turtles! An anonymous leak told us that earlier this week, the Toddfather decided, on a whim, that his toy brand would also announce TMNT figures during the McFarlane Toys Winter Showcase, taking place February 25-27. "Why shouldn't we also make Ninja turtles?", he said. Fingers crossed for it to be true (can the Ninja Turtles cross their fingers?). DC Collectibles (now DC Direct) did release some very cool TMNT figures a few years ago, and McFarlane Toys is now a partner of DC Direct, so, on a technicality, he already did. Far-fetched?
