  1. Netflix's Stranger Things announced via Twitter cast additions for the upcoming fourth season, along with more details about elements of the story, including what Hellfire Club is. Joining the fourth season as new series regulars are Jamie Campbell Bower, Eduardo Franco and Joseph Quinn. In addition, Tom Wlaschiha, Sherman Augustus, Mason Dye, Nikola Djuricko and Robert Englund are set for recurring roles. The title of Season 4’s opening episode is The Hellfire Club and more details about elements of the story, including what Hellfire Club is. Quinn’s character Eddie Munson is an audacious 80’s metalhead who runs The Hellfire Club, Hawkins High’s official D&D club. Hated by those who don’t understand him — and beloved by those who do — Eddie will find himself at the terrifying epicenter of this season’s mystery. Additional Source: Deadline
  2. Geoff Stults, Tamara Tunie, Mason Alexander Park, Rachel House, Ann Truong and Hoa Xuande have joined the cast of Cowboy Bebop, Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the cult Japanese animated series. Stults is Chalmers, the epitome of a Western lawman. He is also Jet Black’s former co-detective in the ISSP’s Homicide Division. He wears a chronic smile that makes you want to punch him square in the face… especially Jet. And that’s only partly because Chalmers is dating his ex-wife these days. Tunie plays Ana, the proprietor of the hottest underground bluesy jazz club on Mars. And while she acts as a surrogate mom to Spike, there is nothing warm and cuddly about her. Cool and intense, Ana is definitely not a woman to be trifled with. Park portrays Gren, Ana’s right-hand person. They run the front of the house for Ana’s jazz club. As capable with their wit as a glock, as confident in a dress as a suit, they are a Bowie-esque embodiment of 22nd century handsome and seductive beauty. House is Mao, the Capo of the Syndicate’s “White Tigers” family. Despite, or perhaps because of, her blue collar background, Mao is more cunning, adept, crafty and deadly than her counterparts. Truong and Xuande are Shin and Lin. Dressed to kill (because they do), Shin and Lin serve as Vicious’ twin Syndicate henchman. Despite being fearful of their volatile boss, they are fiercely loyal to Vicious in his quest (for reasons we have yet to understand) to take down Spike Spiegel. The six join previously announced cast members John Cho as Spike Spiegel, Mustafa Shakir as Jet Black, Daniella Pineda as Faye Valentine, Alex Hassell as Vicious and Elena Satine as Julia. Based on the worldwide phenomenon from Sunrise Inc., Cowboy Bebop is the jazz-inspired, genre-bending story of a rag-tag crew of bounty hunters on the run from their pasts, as they hunt down the solar system’s most dangerous criminals. They’ll even save the world…for the right price. The 10 episode live-action adaptation is being developed by Tomorrow Studios, Midnight Radio and Sunrise, the studio behind the original series. The showrunners and executive producers are Andre Nemec, Josh Appelbaum, Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg of Midnight Radio, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios, Yasuo Miyakawa, Masayuki Ozaki, and Shin Sasaki of Sunrise Inc; Tetsu Fujimura and Matthew Weinberg. Writer and executive producer Christopher Yost will write the first episode. Shinichiro Watanabe, director of the original anime, serves as consultant.

As the company grew, they’ve expanded to host some exciting licenses bringing that same high articulation and attention to detail to fan-loved brands. Umbrella Academy is the latest brand added to the portfolio. “We can’t wait to excite new fans with these toys. This is our first license with a contemporary show playing as we design. 6. Deadline is reporting that Fredrik Malmberg and Mark Wheeler’s Pathfinder Media have struck a deal with Netflix to develop an epic live-action series based on Conan, the iconic sword-and-sorcery character created by writer Robert E. Howard. Part of the deal includes Conan Properties International, owned by Malmberg’s Cabinet Entertainment. In creating this deal, Netflix has exclusive option to acquire rights to the Conan literary library and develop works across TV and film, both live-action and animated, including Roald Dahl’s novels, The Chronicles of Narnia books and comics publisher Millarworld. Malmberg and Wheeler will serve as executive producers on the potential series through their Pathfinder Media. In 2018, Amazon started developing a Conan drama series, from Ryan Condal, Miguel Sapochnik, Warren Littlefield, Pathfinder Media and Endeavor Content. 13. The Hollywood Reporter has printed an article about the how the comic book industry is dealing with abuse claims and has learned that Writer and Creator of Netflix's Castlevania, Warren Ellis, has been accused of sexual harassment and abuse by multiple women. Ellis has completed work on the upcoming season of Castlevania, but he will not be back for future seasons and has been dismissed by Netflix. Sources claim that Ellis released a June 19th statement that acknowledged "mistakes" but said, "I have never consciously coerced, manipulated or abused anyone, nor have I ever assaulted anybody." "Comics is a small industry, and you can lose your career by speaking out," says Madolan Greene, one of the many who claim they were abused by Ellis. "Who has enough power to call out bad behavior without losing their job? How do we talk about these 'open secrets' before the victims have to step up and do it?" Greene is one of the more than 100 women and nonbinary people behind SoManyOfUs.com, which arose July 12th out of conversations among those Ellis had allegedly groomed across two decades. "We were all hurt, but what could we do with that pain?" says Sarah Deaton, another of the site's members. "What did we want to see happen? And one of the things we kept hearing was, 'I don't want this to happen to anyone else.' Everything else just grew from there." SoManyOfUs takes a proactive approach to sexual harassment and abuse, pairing personal testimonials and alleged examples of Ellis' behavior with definitions of tactics and terms like "grooming," "coercion" and "gaslighting." As Zoetica Ebb, one of the site's core editors, puts it, "What we've done offers others experiencing systemic abuse a sort of template for coming forward."

  15. Netflix’s home of all things geek - confirmed today that a scripted live action series inspired by Capcom’s massive Resident Evil franchise is coming to Netflix. Building on one of the most popular, best selling survival horror video games of all time, Resident Evil will tell a brand new story across two timelines: In the first timeline, fourteen-year-old sisters Jade and Billie Wesker are moved to New Raccoon City. A manufactured, corporate town, forced on them right as adolescence is in full swing. But the more time they spend there, the more they come to realize that the town is more than it seems and their father may be concealing dark secrets. Secrets that could destroy the world. Cut to the second timeline, well over a decade into the future: there are less than fifteen million people left on Earth. And more than six billion monsters -- people and animals infected with the T-virus. Jade, now thirty, struggles to survive in this New World, while the secrets from her past - about her sister, her father and herself - continue to haunt her. ANDREW DABB, Showrunner/Executive Producer/Writer, said: “Resident Evil is my favorite game of all time. I'm incredibly excited to tell a new chapter in this amazing story and bring the first ever Resident Evil series to Netflix members around the world. For every type of Resident Evil fan, including those joining us for the first time, the series will be complete with a lot of old friends, and some things (bloodthirsty, insane things) people have never seen before." The Resident Evil six-film franchise, produced by Constantin Film, has collectively earned more than $1.2 billion worldwide making it the most successful movie franchise based on a video game.
  16. There have been many animated shows for Transformers done over the years since the original G1 series premiered back in 1984. Some have been better than others, but for someone like me who grew up on the original, they never fully lived up to my expectations of what a new series should be, until now. The first chapter in the Transformers: War for Cybertron Trilogy premiers today on Netflix. While this new series is not a continuation of the original G1 show, it takes many aspects from that series and modernizes them in a way that I think will be very appealing to fans first introduced to Transformers back in the 80’s. The first chapter of this new show contains six 24-minute episodes. I don’t know if this was an intentional nod to the original show, but the first episode opens with characters Wheeljack and Bumblebee. Just like in the original, the two seek to replenish the Autobot’s energy supplies. In this version, we are presented with interesting twists like Bumblebee not being an actual Autobot. Instead, he is an independent scavenger hired by the Autobots to help them find Energon, the lifeblood of all Transformers. I think Bumblebee is presented here as a far more complex and interesting character than he was in the original series. The basic premise of the new show is essentially the same as always, the Autobots are engaged in a long-fought war with their more warrior-like counterparts known as the Decepticons. However, don’t necessarily expect your typical good vs. evil narration of this story like we’ve seen before. While the Decepticons are portrayed primarily as the bad guys here, like you would expect, their motivations for fighting the Autobots isn’t as cut and dry as you might think. Signals during the first chapter suggest the Decepticons actually may have legitimate grievances against their Autobot brothers. Like the original show, the Autobots are led by Optimus Prime who continues to exhibit the qualities of an honorable leader, and the Decepticons follow Megatron who is as ruthless as always. Once again though, don’t expect to see the same dynamics play out between these two leaders like we’ve seen before. The series takes great pains to hint at a past between these two that I think will make for a very interesting backstory, more so than what we have seen before, at least in the cartoons. While the series I think can be enjoyed by kids, I think the intent definitely was to make this one more for the adults. After all, this is a story about war, and they do a good job of portraying the effects of war can have on a civilization, very similar to what they did in the original Transformers animated movie. In other words, if you have young kids who might want to check this out, you may want to vet it first before letting them watch it. I don’t want to suggest it’s overtly violent, but at the same time things do happen that might be upsetting to younger kids so just use caution there. Overall, I liked the animation. It’s very dark, which is good in setting the tone for the story but made it hard to make out individual characters especially when it came to the many Decepticon Seeker jets featured in the battle scenes. Since all the Seekers have the same bodies, the only way to tell one from the other is with their colors, which did not always stand out well. The character designs are also true to their toy counterparts. Unlike in the original series, this was like watching the actual toys come to life on the screen. For the most part I think that is a good thing, but a few times movements like running looked a little off for some of the characters. One of the animation effects I really liked in the new show was Shockwave’s eye. I don’t know why, but I just thought it looked really cool. For the voice actors, I think they did a really good job here. When the new series was first announced, I was very surprised to see they did not bring in Peter Cullen from the original series and live movies to voice Optimus Prime. They brought in Jake Foushee who voiced Optimus for other shows. I had never heard him do Prime before now, but I will say he did a good job here. At times I actually thought I was hearing Cullen speak. Another voice I was really impressed with was Starscream, voiced by Sam Riegel. Many people over the years have tried to recreate what the late and great Chris Latta did for the character during the G1 series, and I think Riegel has come the closest to doing just that. And then there was Soundwave. While not quite as good as the original, they did a great job of recreating that unique tone Soundwave is known for from the G1 days. Going into this show I was a little leery. I was not terribly impressed with the Transformers: Combiner Wars animated web television series they did a few years ago. Even after watching the trailer for this new show, I had my reservations about it. I am very happy to report that those reservations were misplaced and that I walked away loving this new series. It’s not perfect, but I really think this is the show we fans of the original series have been waiting for and I highly recommend you check it out. Look for it on Netflix now.

"We at TRIGGER are thrilled to work with CD PROJEKT RED to create a brand-new story set in the world of the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077. It's a huge challenge to adapt this universe into an anime, but we are eager to face it head-on," said Masahiko Otsuka, CEO, Studio TRIGGER. Director Hiroyuki Imaishi adds, "I've always loved cyberpunk as a genre, but always found it difficult to create as an original work. This is why I'm very excited to be working with CD PROJEKT RED on this project. It won't be easy to please both game and anime fans, but I love a challenge, and I'm looking forward to the production. We'll do our best to meet and exceed expectations."
