  1. Geoff Stults, Tamara Tunie, Mason Alexander Park, Rachel House, Ann Truong and Hoa Xuande have joined the cast of Cowboy Bebop, Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the cult Japanese animated series. Stults is Chalmers, the epitome of a Western lawman. He is also Jet Black’s former co-detective in the ISSP’s Homicide Division. He wears a chronic smile that makes you want to punch him square in the face… especially Jet. And that’s only partly because Chalmers is dating his ex-wife these days. Tunie plays Ana, the proprietor of the hottest underground bluesy jazz club on Mars. And while she acts as a surrogate mom to Spike, there is nothing warm and cuddly about her. Cool and intense, Ana is definitely not a woman to be trifled with. Park portrays Gren, Ana’s right-hand person. They run the front of the house for Ana’s jazz club. As capable with their wit as a glock, as confident in a dress as a suit, they are a Bowie-esque embodiment of 22nd century handsome and seductive beauty. House is Mao, the Capo of the Syndicate’s “White Tigers” family. Despite, or perhaps because of, her blue collar background, Mao is more cunning, adept, crafty and deadly than her counterparts. Truong and Xuande are Shin and Lin. Dressed to kill (because they do), Shin and Lin serve as Vicious’ twin Syndicate henchman. Despite being fearful of their volatile boss, they are fiercely loyal to Vicious in his quest (for reasons we have yet to understand) to take down Spike Spiegel. The six join previously announced cast members John Cho as Spike Spiegel, Mustafa Shakir as Jet Black, Daniella Pineda as Faye Valentine, Alex Hassell as Vicious and Elena Satine as Julia. Based on the worldwide phenomenon from Sunrise Inc., Cowboy Bebop is the jazz-inspired, genre-bending story of a rag-tag crew of bounty hunters on the run from their pasts, as they hunt down the solar system’s most dangerous criminals. They’ll even save the world…for the right price. The 10 episode live-action adaptation is being developed by Tomorrow Studios, Midnight Radio and Sunrise, the studio behind the original series. The showrunners and executive producers are Andre Nemec, Josh Appelbaum, Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg of Midnight Radio, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios, Yasuo Miyakawa, Masayuki Ozaki, and Shin Sasaki of Sunrise Inc; Tetsu Fujimura and Matthew Weinberg. Writer and executive producer Christopher Yost will write the first episode. Shinichiro Watanabe, director of the original anime, serves as consultant.
  2. Deadline is reporting that Fredrik Malmberg and Mark Wheeler’s Pathfinder Media have struck a deal with Netflix to develop an epic live-action series based on Conan, the iconic sword-and-sorcery character created by writer Robert E. Howard. Part of the deal includes Conan Properties International, owned by Malmberg’s Cabinet Entertainment. In creating this deal, Netflix has exclusive option to acquire rights to the Conan literary library and develop works across TV and film, both live-action and animated, including Roald Dahl’s novels, The Chronicles of Narnia books and comics publisher Millarworld. A search for a writer/showrunner to script the Conan adaptation and director are currently underway. Malmberg and Wheeler will serve as executive producers on the potential series through their Pathfinder Media. The character of Conan the Barbarian, aka Conan the Cimmerian, appeared in 1932 in Weird Tales magazine. The Sword and Sorcery of the Conan stories have inspired over over a thousand comic books, one hundred novels, three feature films, two television series, multiple video games, and a vast range of collectibles, toys, and more, worldwide. In 2018, Amazon started developing a Conan drama series, from Ryan Condal, Miguel Sapochnik, Warren Littlefield, Pathfinder Media and Endeavor Content. Wheeler and Malmberg previously produced Syfy’s Blood Drive.
  3. Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous follows a group of six teenagers chosen for a once-in-a-lifetime experience at a new adventure camp on the opposite side of Isla Nublar. But when dinosaurs wreak havoc across the island, the campers are stranded. Unable to reach the outside world, they’ll need to go from strangers to friends to family if they’re going to survive. Scott Kreamer (Pinky Malinky) and Lane Lueras (Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny) serve as showrunners and executive producers. The series is executive produced by Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall, and Colin Trevorrow. Zack Stentz serves as consulting producer.
  4. The second season of The Witcher is currently in production in the United Kingdom and Netflix has released new images of Geralt of Rivia (played by Henry Cavill) debuting new armor. Along with the new images includes the tagline: "His emotional shield can ward off any charmer, but his trusted sword he’ll wield, will be matched with new armour." Here’s the Season 2 logline: “Convinced Yennefer’s life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen. “While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.”

  6. Deadline is reporting that Basil Eidenbenz has taken over as the role of Witcher Eskel for the second season of Netflix's The Witcher. Thue Ersted Rasmussen will be stepping down as from role "due to the rescheduling because of COVID-19." Rasmussen was one of seven new cast members announced by Netflix for the second season. Production resumed on August 17th with Eidenbenz taking over the role of Eskel, a Witcher of the school of the Wolf with strong magic powers. Quote from Zack Snyder: “I’m incredibly excited for the opportunity to partner with Netflix again as we expand the Army of the Dead universe with both an international prequel, as well as exploring the visually dynamic world of animation. It’s been a great collaboration and we are thrilled that Netflix sees this as big of an IP as we do.” The prequel will be directed by and star Grimme Award winner Matthias Schweighöfer and will follow his Army of the Dead character “Ludwig Dieter”. 9. There have been many animated shows for Transformers done over the years since the original G1 series premiered back in 1984. Some have been better than others, but for someone like me who grew up on the original, they never fully lived up to my expectations of what a new series should be, until now. The first chapter in the Transformers: War for Cybertron Trilogy premiers today on Netflix. While this new series is not a continuation of the original G1 show, it takes many aspects from that series and modernizes them in a way that I think will be very appealing to fans first introduced to Transformers back in the 80’s. The first chapter of this new show contains six 24-minute episodes. I don’t know if this was an intentional nod to the original show, but the first episode opens with characters Wheeljack and Bumblebee. Just like in the original, the two seek to replenish the Autobot’s energy supplies. In this version, we are presented with interesting twists like Bumblebee not being an actual Autobot. Instead, he is an independent scavenger hired by the Autobots to help them find Energon, the lifeblood of all Transformers. I think Bumblebee is presented here as a far more complex and interesting character than he was in the original series. The basic premise of the new show is essentially the same as always, the Autobots are engaged in a long-fought war with their more warrior-like counterparts known as the Decepticons. However, don’t necessarily expect your typical good vs. evil narration of this story like we’ve seen before. While the Decepticons are portrayed primarily as the bad guys here, like you would expect, their motivations for fighting the Autobots isn’t as cut and dry as you might think. Signals during the first chapter suggest the Decepticons actually may have legitimate grievances against their Autobot brothers. Like the original show, the Autobots are led by Optimus Prime who continues to exhibit the qualities of an honorable leader, and the Decepticons follow Megatron who is as ruthless as always. Once again though, don’t expect to see the same dynamics play out between these two leaders like we’ve seen before. The series takes great pains to hint at a past between these two that I think will make for a very interesting backstory, more so than what we have seen before, at least in the cartoons. While the series I think can be enjoyed by kids, I think the intent definitely was to make this one more for the adults. After all, this is a story about war, and they do a good job of portraying the effects of war can have on a civilization, very similar to what they did in the original Transformers animated movie. In other words, if you have young kids who might want to check this out, you may want to vet it first before letting them watch it. I don’t want to suggest it’s overtly violent, but at the same time things do happen that might be upsetting to younger kids so just use caution there. Overall, I liked the animation. It’s very dark, which is good in setting the tone for the story but made it hard to make out individual characters especially when it came to the many Decepticon Seeker jets featured in the battle scenes. Since all the Seekers have the same bodies, the only way to tell one from the other is with their colors, which did not always stand out well. The character designs are also true to their toy counterparts. Unlike in the original series, this was like watching the actual toys come to life on the screen. For the most part I think that is a good thing, but a few times movements like running looked a little off for some of the characters. One of the animation effects I really liked in the new show was Shockwave’s eye. I don’t know why, but I just thought it looked really cool. For the voice actors, I think they did a really good job here. When the new series was first announced, I was very surprised to see they did not bring in Peter Cullen from the original series and live movies to voice Optimus Prime. They brought in Jake Foushee who voiced Optimus for other shows. I had never heard him do Prime before now, but I will say he did a good job here. At times I actually thought I was hearing Cullen speak. Another voice I was really impressed with was Starscream, voiced by Sam Riegel. Many people over the years have tried to recreate what the late and great Chris Latta did for the character during the G1 series, and I think Riegel has come the closest to doing just that. And then there was Soundwave. While not quite as good as the original, they did a great job of recreating that unique tone Soundwave is known for from the G1 days. Going into this show I was a little leery. I was not terribly impressed with the Transformers: Combiner Wars animated web television series they did a few years ago. Even after watching the trailer for this new show, I had my reservations about it. I am very happy to report that those reservations were misplaced and that I walked away loving this new series. It’s not perfect, but I really think this is the show we fans of the original series have been waiting for and I highly recommend you check it out. Look for it on Netflix now.
  10. Lucifer is back and acting...strange. Get ready - this season all your desires will be fulfilled. Season 5 Part 1 premieres August 21st only on Netflix.
  11. Netflix and Hasbro have partnered with Rooster Teeth to bring Transformers: War For Cybertron to Netfl;ix on July 30th. Rooster Teeth will produce the original series for Netflix and Polygon Pictures will serve as the animation studio. Transformers veteran FJ DeSanto (Transformers: Titans Return, Transformers: Power of the Primes) will serve as showrunner on the series with several contributing writers, including George Krstic (Megas XLR), Gavin Hignight (Transformers: Cyberverse), and Brandon Easton (Agent Carter, Transformers: Rescue Bots). It is the final hours of the devastating civil war between the Autobots and Decepticons. The war that has torn apart their home planet of Cybertron is at a tipping point. Two leaders, Optimus Prime and Megatron, both want to save their world and unify their people, but only on their own terms. In an attempt to end the conflict, Megatron is forced to consider using the Allspark, the source of all life and power on Cybertron, to “reformat” the Autobots, thus “unifying” Cybertron. Outnumbered, outgunned, and under SIEGE, the battle-weary Autobots orchestrate a desperate series of counterstrikes on a mission that, if everything somehow goes right, will end with an unthinkable choice: kill their planet in order to save it.

  14. “Your greatest gift to me, and I’m killing him. I must already be dead.” *DISCLAIMER*: This review is not sponsored. I’m a massive fan of Castlevania. My dad introduced me to Symphony of the Night on the original PlayStation when I was 3, and I’ve played multiple entries since; from Circle of the Moon to Lords of Shadow 2 — hell, I even played the most recent mobile release, Grimoire of Souls. It’s the game series of my childhood. When I heard there was an anime being picked up by Netflix, I damn near cried nerd tears of joy — having waited seven years since first finding out of an initial live-action movie adaptation. And once I saw it and found out it was actually good, I was massively thrilled. It was so good, in one hell of a peak Reddit moment, I personally messaged the showrunner, Adi Shankar; asking if a figure line was coming out, to which he replied: “it’s coming”. Suffice it to say, I was very excited when this figure line was formally announced by Diamond Select Toys almost a year later. I had some understandably high hopes because, finally, we were gonna get some decent Castlevania figures that were advertised to be more poseable than the NECA figures of yore (which I also have lol). The prototype figures all looked great, and proudly boasted 20 points of articulation. And now that I have the set of three; Trevor, Sypha, and Alucard — I can only say these figures fell out of a bull’s ass. Once again, Castlevania gets crapped on by the toy industry. These figures are so disappointing that I held off on this review for so long. To put into perspective just how long, I got these figures about three weeks before I got my Dante. It was too depressing to even think of, that I couldn't bring myself to take photos of these figures til JUST recently. I’ll explain exactly why in this review. I’ll start off with the only good things these figures got going for them: the sculpt and paint job. They’re really nice. But because of the figures having embellishments (coattails and robe detail) made of hard-but-pliable plastic, the sculpt gets in the way of a lot of the articulation. Just as well, the paints are decent, but Sypha’s got a rat mouth thing going, and Trevor’s eyes look a bit lazily done rather than just lazy. However, in certain lighting, the paint jobs are perfect. Anyways, going back to the articulation: these figures are articulated like trash. They were all advertised to sport double jointed elbows (except Sypha), but for some reason, DST had gone cheapo and went back on that; giving us single-jointed elbows that’re also sleeved. I can’t put Alucard into his trademark en-garde pose from the anime because the elbows can’t bend further than 45 degrees. FORTY-FIVE FRIGGIN DEGREES. Sypha’s robes all get in the way of her poseability as well, so she can’t really look like she’s casting spells. Trevor’s the best articulated out of all of them, but that really ain’t saying much because his arms also suffer the 45-degree syndrome. These figures come with way too many accessories than they can pose with. Granted, most of them are hands, but these accessories won’t do any good if the figures can’t be posed nicely with them. Alucard doesn’t come with any form of hand to hold the sheathe of his sword. Additionally, I had to RIP off a throwing knife from one of Trevor’s throwing knife hands just so he can hold his whip. You read that correctly, Trevor didn’t come with ANY hands to hold his weapons until I unwillingly (and forcefully) damaged one of them after exasperatedly exclaiming out loud “are you actually serious?”. Exhibited in this photo is is said hand holding the morning star whip, with the scar the knife I ripped off left on his thumb. It looks like peanut butter. Good thing that throwing knife was just soft plastic. Imagine if it wasn’t — we’d be having an angrier conversation right now, possibly with more expletives. Their excuse for this as I quote on the comment section of one of their posts is it’s a factory error. I guess the elbows are a factory elbow too, huh? I digress; he also comes with two swords and sheathes that can NOT be placed anywhere on him, and his whips can’t be stowed on his person either — which sucks because the figure itself has loops on its belt as though to store them. To top it all off, Trevor was also advertised to come with his cloak — but just like the elbow articulation, DST went back on that and replaced it with something stupider: a bland medieval bucket that doesn’t even have holy water or salt sculpted into it, or even a goddamn handle for Trevor to hold. Was this also a factory error? We consumers didn’t even get news for ANY of these changes during production. It’s borderline criminal. Honestly, the only good thing I can say for these figures is that they look very nice. Other than that, I can’t recommend anyone buy these figures for the $25 price point. McFarlane is making a Wonder Woman figure for WW1984 in the same scale that’s going for $19, and it’s even MORE poseable than this tragedy of a toy line. This is exactly what happens when you give a mature license to a manufacturer whose audience is veered more toward younger ages. It’s very evident they didn’t know if they wanted to cater to kids or adults with these figures. There are so many accessories — small enough that a kid can choke on them, yet the figures can’t be posed worth a damn. There’s a very obvious lack of passion that went into the figures. The abundance of accessories does NOT make up for the lack of articulation. As I said earlier, accessories aren’t worth it if the figures can’t be posed with them. There has to be a justified BALANCE. If there isn’t, what’s the point? DST should stick to statues, plain and simple. Do not give DST your hard earnings for this. You as fans and consumers deserve better. This line should’ve gone to Bandai’s FiguArts or Max Factory’s Figma, or hell — even McFarlane; people who actually care about the products they’re releasing, who have actually made good anime figures. I can’t even sell these if I wanted to because of the box design (which is un-reusable) and the damage I had to cause to Trevor. If they come out with 2.0 versions of these figures that are closer to what was advertised, I’m actually gonna be pissed. In the album, I’ll provide prototype images so you know what I’m mad about. It sucks because with Castlevania, fans have come to the mindset that crappy figures are better than nothing — something I’ve personally fallen victim for as well. Only difference is a good number of them go on to praise these things because of that mindset. Thing is, Castlevania’s only ever gotten crappy figures (besides that amazing F4F statue, but that’s a statue). This franchise deserves a bone. + good sculpts + decent paint apps - heavily hindered articulation way more accessories than the figures deserve - figures were falsely advertised - Trevor’s lack of designated weapon holding hands - Also his cloak got switched to a generic medieval bucket - Bucket don’t even have a handle -Sypha’s somehow got even less articulation than the other two figures I’m really salty about those elbows. They’re the sole reason these figures can’t look good while posed. I got these figures at BigBadToyStore, but I’m not providing link to them specifically like normal because consumers deserve better than this garbage. Your money would actually be better spent on something else. Here’s the homepage instead: https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/ Here's a link to my Facebook page for more reviews and photos! https://www.facebook.com/FranksFigurePage/

Goyer wrote the first draft of the screenplay for Sony and was in talks to direct the film, but dropped out and became an executive producer on the project.
