  1. The Walking Dead Director and Effects Specialist, Greg Nicotero has been tapped for Todd McFarlane's New Spawn Movie. Nicotero, an award-winning executive producer, director, and make-up special effects creator on THE WALKING DEAD has come on board, with his company KNB EFX, to create the new Spawn design for the upcoming McFarlane/ Blumhouse Spawn feature film. McFarlane, Nicotero and KNB EFX Group, worked together on the 1997 Spawn movie. "I'm a long-time fan of Gregs work and the projects his company, KNB have done throughout the years," said McFarlane Working with him once again, to re-invent the Spawn 'look' so it will match the supernatural theme in the movie, is going to be a fun process. This year, McFarlane has announced an ensemble of award-winning talent that has signed on to the Spawn Movie Cast – Academy Award and Goolden Globe winner Jamie Foxx (Ray, Django Unchained, The Amazing Spider-man) has been cast as Spawn and Academy Award nominee Jeremy Renner (Hurt Locker, Wind River, The Avengers) has been tapped to play Twitch. This newest adaptation—a gritty, R-rated reimagining marks McFarlannes film directorial debut. McFarlane is partnering with Jason Blum and Blumhouse Productions, the producing force behind recent hits Get Out and Split and The Purge franchise, to develop a feature film around the Spawn comic character created by McFarlane.

  4. Check out the newly-released Comic-Con trailer for the hotly-anticipated Season 9 of "The Walking Dead," which sees a nicely hair-trimmed Rick in a slight time jump as he tries to unite his people with the surviving members of Negan's Saviors gang, only to realize that you can't mixed two groups of people refusing to let go of the past. Based on one of the most successful and popular comic books of all time, written by Robert Kirkman, AMC’s The Walking Dead captures the ongoing human drama following a zombie apocalypse. The series follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, played by Andrew Lincoln. However, instead of the zombies, it is the living who remain that truly become the walking dead. The Walking Dead stars Andrew Lincoln, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Khary Payton, Tom Payne, Seth Gilliam, Alanna Masterson, Ross Marquand, Christian Serratos, Josh McDermitt, Katelyn Nacon, Xander Berkeley Release: October 7th, 2018 (AMC)
  5. AMC has released a brand-new comic-con trailer for the upcoming second half of Season 4 of "Fear the Walking Dead." The preview features footage of newly added cast members, which include Mo Collins, Daryl "Chill" Mitchell, Stephen Henderson, Tonya Pinkins and Aaron Stanford. In the new season, the characters’ immediate past mixes with an uncertain present of struggle and discovery as they meet new friends, foes and threats. They fight for each other, against each other and against a legion of the dead, all to somehow build an existence amid the crushing pressure of lives coming apart. Fear The Walking Dead stars Lennie James, Garret Dillahunt, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Colman Domingo, Danay Garcia, Jenna Elfman, Maggie Grace, Alexa Nisenson, Mo Collins, Daryl "Chill" Mitchell, Stephen Henderson, Tonya Pinkins, Aaron Stanford Release: August 12th, 2018 (AMC)
  6. Tony Award-nominated actress and Broadway star Lauren Ridloff has been officially cast to play Connie in The Walking Dead Season 9. The character of Connie comes straight off the pages of the comic book as she is a quiet member of a small survival group led by a woman named Magna, who eventually assimilates her crew into Alexandria and the Hilltop. One notable difference between the comic character and her show counterpart is that the show version will be deaf as Ridloff is also deaf. According to sources, Lauren Ridloff’s character is “a seasoned survivor deft at using her senses to read people, situations, and trouble. Her character is deaf and uses American Sign Language (ASL) to communicate.” Source: Entertainment Weekly
  7. The Walking Dead executive producer Angela Kang recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the new changes coming up in the new season of The Walking Dead when it returns in October. Kang is taking over showrunning duties from Scott M. Gimple and is looking for a fresh start. “We’re really looking at the start of a new chapter of the show,” says Kang about season 9. That new chapter will also have a new look which promises a back to basics approach for the survivors, and it is one born out of necessity, for while society may have indeed crumbled thanks to the zombie apocalypse, we will now see it literally crumbling as well — especially after a time jump. “We’ll explore what happened as man made objects and structures break down,” says Kang. “Infrastructure like roads and bridges are changing and crumbling. And we’ll also explore what happens as resources are getting low.” “We are going into a period where a lot of the things that we’ve seen in previous seasons have broken down, so they’ve got these horses and carriages that are being drawn around instead of cars. Things are lit with oil lamps. People are using different kinds of weaponry. There’s a real grittiness to it that I think will be fun and fresh for the viewers.”
  8. Deadline is reporting that Jeremy Renner will star alongside Jamie Foxx in Spawn, the Blumhouse film that marks the directorial debut of Todd McFarlane from his scripted adaptation of his comic book creation. Renner will be playing the character of Detective 'Twitch' Williams. This unconventional detective is near fearless and compliments Spawn’s demonic powers. Jason Blum told sources, “Jeremy is the ideal choice for Twitch Williams. He radiates honesty, intelligence and a hard-working, everyman charisma, the same qualities that make Twitch such a compelling character.” Foxx is set to play the title character, who started out in the comics as Al Simmons, a member of a CIA black ops team who is twice betrayed: after being set up by his cohorts to be murdered with his corpse set aflame, Simmons is then double crossed in Hell. He is convinced to become a Hellspawn warrior in exchange for being able to be reunited with his wife, only to find himself stuck in his demonic creature shell, and that his wife moved on and married his best friend. Spawn turns his rage on street scum and revenge. He realized long ago that he can’t battle the constant evil permeating the globe alone, and must enlist the aid of humans to help him fight the war. "As a first time director, I wanted to surround myself with the most talent and the most skilled people I can on all fronts,” McFarlane told sources. “I was lucky enough to land Jason Blum and then Jamie Foxx, and I knew the person on screen the most is this police officer, Twitch Williams. We needed as strong a person as possible because he will be the face of the film. I took my naïve Hollywood approach again, and said let’s start at the top and work down. Jeremy was at the top. I’m a huge fan of his. The character doesn’t need to be a bodybuilder or GQ handsome. I was looking for somebody who’s a person you’ve met before; I needed someone who can pull off the grief of an average human being. I’ve seen Jeremy do that in more than a few of his movies. He was at the top of my list, just like Jamie.” The next step for the project will be to lock a distributor to set the financing on a film that will likely carry a $10 million-$12 million budget, an R rating, and franchise potential. “Jason and I feel we have a strong package here,” McFarlane said. “Academy Award nominated and Academy Award nominated actor. As a first time director, I guess I’m the weak link, but I think my brand is strong. Hopefully when we go to studios, fairly soon, we’ll get the interest of more than one and we can pick what place will do this project justice, marketing and distributing it. We’re going to go for as close to a green light as we can get, since the development process has already been done. We’re looking for someone to say, ‘yeah cool, we’ll take it.’ It’s a reasonable budget, we’re not asking anyone to stretch. The goal here is a quality project at reasonable price.”
