  5. Mattel, Inc. (NASDAQ: MAT) and Nickelodeon today announced plans to produce a new animated series and live-action television movie musical based on Monster High, the iconic franchise about the children of famous monsters and creatures. The new series follows fan-favorite characters Clawdeen Wolf, Draculaura, and Frankie Stein as they navigate the hilarity of high school in the hallowed halls of Monster High. The show, which will be available globally across Nickelodeon platforms, is scheduled to premiere in 2022. Similarly, the movie musical event, which marks the first time Monster High will be brought to life in live action, will be available on Nickelodeon platforms globally next year. The Monster High series and movie musical event join other Mattel Television content in production, including series and specials based on Barbie, Masters of the Universe, Thomas & Friends, Polly Pocket and Fireman Sam, to name a few. The forthcoming Monster High series and movie underscore a key element of Nickelodeon’s content strategy, to build and expand the worlds of enormously popular franchises such as Star Trek, SpongeBob SquarePants, Henry Danger, Big Nate and Real Pigeons Fight Crime among others, to give audiences more of what they love. Nickelodeon’s new content slate is informed by the network’s ongoing research and insights into today’s generation of kids, who are the most diverse generation ever and expect to see themselves authentically represented in media and in the world around them; want to make a positive difference in the world as they grow up; consider social media stars as their top role models, alongside their parents; and increasingly meet their much-desired need for family time by co-viewing entertainment content together. Production on the Monster High animated TV series is overseen for Nickelodeon by Claudia Spinelli, Senior Vice President, Animation Development. Shea Fontana (Polly Pocket, DC Super Hero Girls) is serving as the showrunner. Jenny Jaffe (Big Hero 6: The Series, Rugrats) and the writing team of Greg Erb and Jason Oremland (Princess and the Frog, Playmobil: The Movie) have been tapped to write the Monster High live-action television movie. Production on the Monster High movie for Nickelodeon is overseen by Zack Olin, Senior Vice President, Live-Action and Shauna Phelan, Senior Vice President, Live-Action Scripted Content. Adam Bonnett, Executive Producer and Christopher Keenan, Senior Vice President of Content Development are overseeing the animated series for Mattel, and Bonnett is also overseeing the live-action movie for Mattel. Monster High was first introduced in 2010 with a global fanbase embracing its message of inclusivity. Beginning in 2022, Mattel will be refueling the franchise and introducing Monster High to a whole new generation of kids.

  13. I wanted a more accurate version of Wolverine for his Secret Wars figure. Mattel's version always annoyed me on the original figure. So, just pretty much a repaint with apoxie sculpt added for the belt.

  15. Today I was able to score the newest batch of Masters of the Universe Origins products from Mattel at my local Target store, well everything but the Deluxe Battle Armor Skeletor figure. The items I got included Panthor, Deluxe Battle Armor He-Man, She-Ra, Roboto, Zodac and Mer Man. The basic figures cost $14,99 each, while the Deluxe figure was $19.99 and Panthor was $24.99. Here are the DPCI#'s though the figures are currently not listed on Target's website. Panthor DPCI# 087-16-4345 Battle Armor He-Man DPCI# 087-16-5586 Basic Figures DPCI# 087-16-7355 These of course are not exclusives and if you don't want to have to hunt around for them you can pre-order all of these and more at our sponsor BigBadToyStore.com. You can check out over 100 images for these figures below in our GALLERY. The backdrops features in many of the images were provided by our sponsor DioramaPrints.com . If you use the code ToyNews10 then you can get 10% off your next purchase with them. So just some quick thoughts on these figures. If you have collected any of the previous Origins released last year at Walmart then you basically know what to expect as far as articulation, paint apps and overall quality. These are meant to be as much for the kids as they are adult collectors and the prices match that line of thought. They are more articulated than the original MOTU figures, but the detail and such isn't on par with say the more recent Classics line. The figures are about 5" so they aren't as tall either. You can also take the figures apart and mix and match. This is nice with like the Battle Armor He-Man figure since you can use these heads as well as the legs on the regular version if you want. The boots actually have a little more paint detail on the Deluxe one. The chest flipping action on my He-Man works pretty good. You can have the chest look clean, have one blade cut or two. when you push the chest it flips just like on the original toy. Panthor is not bad but it would have been nice if they had given him ankle articulation on the feet so you could more easily get all four feet to stay flat on the ground. The Battle Cat has the same issue. If you can wait, I would probably suggest you get the Walmart flocked version coming out later this year. It won't have articulated feet but I think the flocking will look better than the plastic and more in keeping with the original toy. The saddle is removable. Out of the new basic figures, I actually think Roboto was really well done. He has the clear plastic chest and when you turn him at the waist the gears in the chest move and his mouth opens and closes. You also get a cool clicking noise. I never had the original Roboto figure but I am guessing it was very similar. Zodac is probably the most boring of the 4. He only comes with a puny red gun and he has what looks like unpainted fur or feathers on his skin under his armor. I don't recall if this was something on the original figure but it looks odd to me. Mer Man has his bright yellow sword and is another member of Skeletor's original crew of henchmen. I just need Tri-Klops which is coming soon to round out the crew. I will say Mer Man seems a little bigger than the others. I could be wrong but I don't think he should be taller than Trap Jaw or Beastman. Finally there is She-Ra which I mostly like. Her sword is much smaller than He-Man's and I am not a fan of the headpiece though I know thats a nod to the original toy and it is removable. The holo pattern on the headpiece and belt do pick up the light nicely. I like the soft-good red cape but not as fond of the white material they used at her shoulders and waist. She has hard and long plastic yellow hair which I don't think looks bad, but it does limit head movement a fair amount. She can't look up at all which sucks when your trying to put her in poses where she holds her sword up in the air. The art on Panthor is gorgeous and you get mini-comics with all the figures. The basic figures in this wave all have the same mini-comics like we've seen with the previous waves and I think the Deluxe figures will all have the same mini-comic as well. At least the two Battle Armor ones and Ram Man which has yet to be released. So that's it. Enjoy the images below in the GALLERY and feel free to share your own thoughts on these in the COMMENTS SECTION.
  16. The official website for the official Masters of the Universe Power-Con convention, today released some teaser images for upcoming Masters of the Universe: Origins figures. These will be offered as exclusives during the convention later this year. From the first image we see a teaser of a MOTU Origins 5-Pack which will cost attendee's $200. It looks like it will include figures of He-Man, Skeletor, Man-At-Arms, Mer-Man and perhaps Beast-Man. The first one in the second row we aren't entirely sure about. The second image is for an exclusive of one single MOTU Origns figure which looks to be She-Ra. This one is listed with a price of $40 for con attendees There will also be a third Hot Wheels based exclusive. No image or any other details were provided for that one at this time. We assume the Origins exclusives for the 5-pack will use the same bodies as the regular released versions and likely feature things like different paint decos, head sculpts and/or accessories. For instance, the one we think is Beast Man looks to have a different harness piece on from the regular released version we have seen. The things sticking up on the shoulders are likely bones as seen on some versions of the character. For the She-Ra, at this time there has been no announcement of a regular release version, but I would be very surprised if they didn't end up doing one sooner or later. Earlier in the week we showed you a rumored list of Origins products that supposedly leaked out from the German Toy Fair. In that list they had a Skeletor/Keldor 2-pack listed as a convention exclusive. While that entire list has by any means been confirmed, it should be noted that the con exclusive mentioned there was likely referring to this year's San Diego Comic Con exclusive, not these Power-Con ones. Power-Con will take place in Anaheim, CA on August 8-9. Tickets are on sale now.
