  1. Mattel is bringing the smackdown with the new WWE Mattel Smackdown Live Main Event Ring! Every collectors dream is here with all the bells and whistles of what an authentic scale ring should have! The ring measures in at 20X20 which is a great scale to recreate all the magic of your favorite WWE superstars! This includes numerous extras that normally are not included with a scale ring. You get a cloth ring skirt and mat, two chairs, one Smackdown Live themed break away table, light up posts and LED board, steps, and the modern day Maharaja Jinder Mahal in elite form! The ring is very easy to put together and the main pieces fit together like a puzzle. The posts have inserts where you plug them into the base of the ring. The light box clips directly underneath the base. The lighting is managed by pressing a single button on one of the posts. Having owned many of the past scale rings from different toy makers, this feels premium and does not feel cheap in hand. There are some drawbacks and isn't a perfect release. The ropes sit a bit low and make the figures look a bit out of scale when you take figure photography. The black bars that clip the ring mat into place are difficult to properly clip in and become loose if you apply too much pressure. The elite Jinder Mahal is an awesome bonus as it's the first elite version of Jinder as his current incarnation. The arms appear to have a new mold with veins popping out showing his vascularity. The torso is also awesome as its properly proportioned to his shredded physique. While this scale ring isn't perfect, this should not sway your decision to not purchase this awesome set! I would rate this a solid 9 out of 10. This is a solid effort by Mattel for keeping the collector in mind!
  2. Today I take a look at the new DC Multiverse Signature Collection Lynda Carter Wonder Woman figure from Mattel. Check out images for this figure below in our GALLERY!
  3. Everybody has a price for the Million Dollar Man! This is the WWE Mattel Flashback Series basic Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase action figure! You get the classic Ted Dibiase in a molded on suit. Dibiase was always known for his flashy persona and unique looks he wore inside the ring. The basic line is known for a scaled back version of the elite line. The basics have lesser points of articulation and not as extensive deco in terms of the outfits or accessories. But this should not sway you from considering to purchase the basic line as well. Mattel went all out for such a classic villain such as the Million Dollar Man! The color Mattel used on the green suit is very much how I recall Dibiase wearing this particular suit back during his run in the WWF. He has dollar signs on the front side of his jacket as well as a giant dollar sign on the backside of his suit jacket. He has silver lines going down each side of his suit trousers. While the posing and articulation is very much limited, this piece still looks fantastic and feels very solid in hand. My only minor complaint would be for Mattel to have a laughing head scan or have a face scan with a scowl rather than an expressionless look. Dibiase was certainly hated by the fans and had a larger than life personality, so thats the only thing I would modify. With this line of basics you get the chance to build a figure when you collect four separate figures. With the Million Dollar Man you get the torso. Once completed you can build a suited classic ring announcer Howard Finkel. This gives you a great incentive to purchase the remainder of figures to complete such a cool legend. I would have to give this basic Ted Dibiase a 8.5 out of 10. Im am only docking points for the weak face scan. But even with this drawback, you should still highly consider picking this up for your collection!
  4. Feel the power of the warrior! Here we have one of the best pieces from Mattel for 2018. This is absolutely incredible. It really is a beauty and a work of art! It has a brand new face scan with a slicked back hair look. His intense facial expression is perfectly captured with his wide open mouth look. His body is accurately done with a ripped muscle torso, arms, and legs. He was always such a colorful character in the WWF with brightly colored outfits that stood out amongst the rest, and this is no exception. Mattel nailed the airbrushed design that Ultimate Warrior was using during the 90's. He has matching wrist bands and tassels to complete the look. On the front side of the trunks, knee and wrist pads it has his signature warrior logo. On the back it has his full name with the airbrushed look. With all elite action figures you are also getting added articulation. You get movement in the head, ankles, wrists, hands, shoulders, torso, legs, and waist. As an added bonus you also get a white WWF winged eagle championship belt. Warrior was known for using brightly colored straps on his championship titles during his run in the 80's and 90's. This is the first time we get this release of the shiny version of the white winged eagle. I sincerely tried to find some sort of fault or nitpicks with this action figure but I honestly cannot. This is a complete home run by Mattel and I applaud their efforts by improving year after year. I rate this a complete 10 out of 10.

    WWE Mattel Elite 62 Sting

The man called Sting is here with WWE Mattel Elite series 62! The classic Sting is here in his signature "surfer" look. He has the old school blonde flat top look before he became the darker crow version we all knew when he battled the NWO. He has his vibrant neon face paint and chiseled physique. Long white tights with the scorpion painted alongside his leg. Mattel really delivered with this action figure. I especially enjoyed the facial scan as it captures his intensity he always delivered in WCW! This comes with a few accessories when you purchase the premium "elite" action figures. With Sting you will receive a plastic entrance jacket that is fully removable. You also get the WCW big gold championship belt that can be removed. With most elite action figures you also will receive a black display stand that has their artwork in the background of the stand. The elite action figures come with the added articulation which are at the head, shoulders, waist, elbow, knee, ankles, wrists, and torso. Some of the drawbacks of this particular figure are the oversized torso. Sting was very cut and defined throughout the majority of his career, but he never had that barrel torso Mattel chose. Another thing that irked me was the oversized plastic jacket. It's very bulky and makes it extremely difficult to take off. The ability to pose has been limited while you have the jacket on so keep that in mind when making your purchase. While there are some drawbacks, you still should highly consider picking this up as its a very solid release of such an iconic superstar! I would rate this an 8 out of 10.

  17. Mattel is back at it with another movie wave of 6” DC Multiverse figures, this time for the upcoming Aquaman movie opening in theaters on December 14, 2018. This wave consists of four figures and one Collect-And-Connect. The regular figures include Orb, Black Manta, Mera and Aquaman featured with a more classic look in the orange shirt and green pants. The Collect-And-Connect figure for this wave is a Trench Warrior, a nasty looking sea-creature army builder type. The packaging for these figures is the same we have seen with other recent Multiverse releases with the blue window boxes. A brief bio for each character is on the back. The figures continue to show design improvements over older Multiverse figures with improved articulation and sculpting detail. Most the figures have ankle pivot and double-jointed knees. They also feature the improved crotch articulation, no longer featuring those outdated side-hinge joints. The face sculpts for both Mera and Aquaman are much improved over the previous Justice League movie versions. Black Manta is probably the overall coolest looking of the bunch, featuring what looks like a hyped-up scuba outfit with a pretty comic book accurate helmet. I am disappointed they didn’t incorporate the same kind of red translucent plastic eyes as they did with the SDCC comic book version released earlier this year. Aquaman looks good overall but I wish they had painted the shoulder joints the same color as the rest of his shirt. The different shade of paint stands out noticeably on the figure. I like that they included the scar on the left eyebrow, and the sculpting detailing on the shirt for the chainmail and the texturing on the legs look good. Mera also has nice texturing on her outfit, and I like the metallic-looking paints they used on her. She is more limited in articulation than the others, only having single-hinged knees and no ankle pivot. Orb has nice sculpting details on his outfit, and I especially like the way his cape and helmet look. The pieces on his faceplate that stick out and the fin on the top of his helmet are made with a rubbery material so they won’t snap off, however they might come out of the package a little wrapped looking. Heating the material with a hairdryer likely will help straighten the fins out if that ends up being an issue for you. The Trench Warrior is very cool looking with nice sculpting and paint applications. I really like the head sculpt and that they gave it an articulated jaw. The three-clawed fingers on each hand also look menacing. The only real downside is that they made a character who I am pretty sure is part of an army to collect-and-connect which will make it hard to get multiples for those who want an army of these guys. For accessories, Mera has the most with a basic spear-like weapon and alternate hands that mimic her water-controlling abilities. I believe these are the same kind of accessories the previous Justice League movie Mera came with which was offered as an Amazon exclusive. Aquaman and Orb both come with Tridents with some nice paint applications on them, and Black Manta comes with a sword that is black. Manata also has a non-removable blade on his left arm that is made from a rubber material, so like Orb’s mask you may need to apply heat to straighten it out if it gets warped in the package. It’s good to see Mattel making improvements with their Multiverse line. However being completely honest, these figures still are a bit lacking in some areas like articulation when compared to similiar scale super hero action figure lines. That said, I will say there are enough positives here to warrant checking out if you are an Aquaman fan or a fan of the DC movies. These figures have started to see limited releases through select e-tailers and should start seeing a wider release in the coming weeks. Check out more images for all these figures below in our GALLERY!
  18. Mattel, Inc. announced the creation of Mattel Films, a new division of the Company focused on developing and producing motion pictures based on the Company's iconic and globally-recognized franchises. Academy Award-nominated producer Robbie Brenner has been appointed to lead Mattel Films as Executive Producer, reporting to Ynon Kreiz, Mattel's Chairman and CEO. Robbie Brenner will oversee Mattel Films, developing motion pictures based on Mattel’s iconic franchises. Mattel is free to develop studio options on such properties as Hot Wheels, American Girl, Fisher-Price and Thomas & Friends itself. Mattel Films then plans to find studio partners to produce the movies. Mattel and Sony had been developing a live-action Barbie movie, set to star Anne Hathaway, for 2020 release, but according to Mattel, that option has lapsed and that project is not moving forward. "Mattel is home to one of the world's greatest portfolios of beloved franchises, and the creation of Mattel Films will allow us to unlock significant value across our IP," said Mr. Kreiz. "Robbie is a gifted storyteller and a highly respected filmmaker with deep relationships in entertainment. She is the perfect leader to bring our celebrated brands to life." "Generations of children around the world have grown up with deep emotional connections to Mattel's brands and characters," said Ms. Brenner. "There are so many stories to be told and so many imaginations to be captured by these iconic brands, and I look forward to working with Ynon and his team to do so." Ms. Brenner was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture for Dallas Buyers Club, and her film Burden was a 2018 Sundance Film Festival Audience Award winner. She has held multiple leadership roles in the entertainment industry for the last two decades, including Partner and President of the film division at The Firm, as well as President of Production at Relativity Media. Ms. Brenner also ran the classics division at Davis Entertainment, and prior to this, she held Senior Vice President roles at both Twentieth Century Fox and Miramax. Ms. Brenner oversaw the production of dozens of movies, including Academy Award-winning The Fighter; the Snow White Adaptation Mirror Mirror, starring Julia Roberts; the 3-D epic, Immortals; the highly successful Nicholas Sparks book adaptions Dear John and Safe Haven. Ms. Brenner was also pivotal in the acquisition of the Sundance documentary Catfish, which became a cultural sensation, as well as Joseph Gordon-Levitt's directorial debut, Don Jon. In 2015, in recognition of her pioneering work, Ms. Brenner was invited to join the executive branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Additional Sources: THR
  19. The big Masters of the Universe themed convention Power-Con is taking place this weekend out in Los Angles, CA and Pixel-Dan is on hand who has already gotten a scoop about the possibility of Mattel's Classic ThunderCats figures making a return. As we told you earlier, Mattel is on hand this weekend for the con and has some new Masters of the Universe product on hand that they are showing off, but apparently they also brought some ThunderCats stuff with them as well with these prototypes of Classic ThunderCats Jaga and Grune figures. According to Dan, Mattel has informed him that they do have plans for these which will likely be revealed later this weekend during the convention which officially kicks off later today. You may recall Mattel began doing Masters of the Universe style Classic ThunderCats figures a couple years ago but then canceled the line after only releasing one wave which included Wiley Kit, Wiley Kat, Lino-O, Jackalman, Pumyra & Mumm-Ra in Mummy Form. The abrupt cancellation of the line understandably angered many fans who were looking to at least be able to complete the core team of ThunderCats and villains. Rumors then circulated that Super7 who took over the Masters of the Universe license from Mattel might take over but then never did. With a new ThunderCats animated series which is done in a totally different style than the original show that is clearly made for kids coming from Warner Bros, it may be Mattel has decided to push forward with the Cats again, however I feel that if Mattel wants to get many fans who felt left out to dry after the initial cancellation was done on board with these, they better plan on doing at the very least the remaining core team members (Tygra and Cheetara) in the first wave, otherwise I doubt fans will bother figuring the line will be canceled again before those characters are produced. Let us know in the comments if you will be on board for new Mattel ThunderCats Classic figures in the comments section below whether they do Tygra and Cheetara initially or not. See Dan's video and images below where he talks about his initial conversation about these figures below and check back throughout the weekend for more coverage from Power-Con where we should get more details about this stuff.
  20. CNN reports that Mattel will be laying off around 2200 employee's in an effort to save money after suffering loses in large part due to the closing of Toys R' Us stores this year. They will also be closing all factories in Mexico. Most of the job layoffs will be in back-office and support roles. Sales fell 11% between April and June for the company however it wasn't all bad for the company as Barbie sales grew 12%, and Hot Wheels sales were up 21%. Jurassic World products also sold pretty good for the company.
