NECA recently put out some really awesome looking Ultimate figures based on your favorite horror icons, and today I look at one of their newest additions to the line with Pennywise from the classic 1990 Stephen King IT movie. I love how the figure, based on Tim Curry’s take on the character, looks. Despite the look of the figure, I do have some complaints. My biggest complaint is switching between the four different head sculpts that come with the figure. I have yet to switch the head sculpts without heating up the plastic with a hair dryer so the neck ball-joint will fit in the head-hole. Without heating the plastic, the heads do not fit on the figure tightly. When switching heads, the red paint from the hair also transfers to the white skin on the neck. Although a minor issue for most, the paint transfer is frustrating for me when switching the heads frequently for photography. Other minor complaints include how impossible it is to line up the three buttons on the front in a straight line and the difficulty getting the figure to hold all seven balloons that are included with it in his hand. The wires on the balloons, which act as the strings, are a bit too long, and you likely will end up cutting them some. Now that we have the problems out of the way, let’s discuss what I really like. While the four head sculpts are a pain in the butt to attach the figure, I think all four look amazing. Again, I do recommend caution when you handle the heads and touch the red hair then touch the white face as you might get bleeding. Otherwise the paint and sculpting on all four heads look great. You get a frowning face, laughing face, screaming face and demonic face. I think the laughing face is my favorite. The paint applications and the sculpting on the rest of the figure is also very solid and looks like Pennywise literally stepped out of the movie screen. The paint detailing on his vest is incredible and while sculpted from plastic, it looks like an actual piece of clothing. Besides the head sculpts and balloons, you also get multiple hands including green scaly demon hands. You get a noisemaker, paper sailboat made out of actual paper (so be careful handling it) and a little plastic bag to store the boat in. Articulation is pretty basic on the figure, but you do get a double-hinged elbow joint that allows rotation on the arms. The knees are single-hinged but have rotation. The feet have hinges which allow rotation and some back and forth movement but no ankle pivot. The mid-section has rotation but not much in the way of an ab crunch. Overall, I think this is am amazing looking figure with some nice movie accurate accessories. It’s amazing to me that NECA made this figure knowing they would take a financial loss with it regardless of how many they sold, at least that is what they have said on Twitter. Despite some issues, I think fans of the classic Pennywise will definitely want to add this one to your collection. Look for it on shelves now. It can be purchased at places like Megalopolis.Toys and BigBadToyStore.com. Check out images for this figure below in our GALLERY as well as our Toy Talk video on it.
