  1. Last fall, Disney Branded Television and the BBC announced that they had joined forces to bring fan-favorite series “Doctor Who” to a global audience. Today, the trailer and premiere dates were revealed for the three new “Doctor Who” 60th anniversary specials, set to debut on Disney+ globally except in the UK and Ireland, where they will air on the BBC. The three specials, titled “The Star Beast” (Nov. 25), “Wild Blue Yonder” (Dec. 2), and “The Giggle” (Dec. 9) will reunite the Fourteenth Doctor (David Tennant) and Donna Temple-Noble (Catherine Tate) as they come face-to-face with their most terrifying villain yet: the Toymaker (played by Neil Patrick Harris in his “Doctor Who” debut). Additional new cast includes Yasmin Finney as Rose Temple-Noble, Miriam Margolyes as the voice of the Meep and Ruth Madeley as Shirley Anne Bingham, as well as returning characters Jacqueline King as Sylvia Noble, Karl Collins as Shaun Temple, and Jemma Redgrave as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart. “Doctor Who” is the longest-running action-adventure television series in the world spanning 60 years and winning over 100 awards. This quintessentially British show has a huge global following, with 9.6m fans across social platforms/channels and 100m video views on YouTube in the last year alone. “Doctor Who” is produced by Bad Wolf and BBC Studios. The series returns under the creative vision of returning showrunner Russell T. Davies, who also serves as a writer and executive producer. Additional executive producers include Phil Collinson, Joel Collins, Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter. The 60th-anniversary specials are written by Russell T. Davies and directed by Rachel Talalay, Tom Kingsley, and Chanya Button, respectively. BBC Studios is handling global distribution. Ncuti Gatwa takes control of the TARDIS as the Fifteenth Doctor over the festive period and the new season of “Doctor Who,” will stream globally in 2024 on Disney+ and on the BBC in the UK and Ireland.
  2. Renowned figures in the creature feature industry, Gary Dauberman and James Wan's Atomic Monster banner, recognized for their successful collaborations on the popular Annabelle horror films, have joined forces to produce a live-action series adaptation of the 1990s cartoon for Disney+. Dauberman will assume the roles of writer, executive producer, and showrunner for the series, with Atomic Monster, the company led by Wan and Michael Clear, also taking on executive producing responsibilities. Currently, the project is in its early stages of development under Disney Branded Television. Originally created by Walt Disney Television Animation, Gargoyles aired for three seasons from 1994 to 1997. The storyline revolves around gargoyle statues that are transported from a Scottish castle to modern-day New York. Upon their arrival in the bustling city, the statues awaken from a thousand-year-old spell and embrace their duty to protect the metropolis, transforming from stone figures during the day to formidable warriors at night, as poignantly stated in the show's narration. Gargoyles emerged during a period of innovation in animated series, alongside other shows such as Batman: The Animated Series and X-Men, which featured more intricate storylines and darker themes. Like its counterparts, Gargoyles captivated a generation of television viewers, earning a cult following. Source: The Hollywood Reporter
  3. The feature film that started it all, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” comes to Disney+ in a beautiful 4K restoration on October 16, in celebration of The Walt Disney Company’s 100th anniversary. This restored version of the 1937 classic is the result of the combined efforts of the Walt Disney Studios Restoration and Preservation team, working closely with key artists from Walt Disney Animation Studios, the same team who recently worked together on the critically acclaimed restoration of Walt Disney’s 1950 animated classic, “Cinderella.” Disney Animation artists Michael Giaimo (production designer for the upcoming animated musical adventure “Wish,” as well as “Frozen” and “Frozen 2”) and animator/director Eric Goldberg (head of hand-drawn animation for Disney Animation’s newest short, “Once Upon A Studio,” director, “Pocahontas,” “Fantasia/2000”) were honored to re-team with their colleagues at Walt Disney Studios on the project. “The opportunity to help restore Snow White was both an honor and a challenge,” said Goldberg. “As the very first Walt Disney feature, Mike Giaimo and I felt we owed a debt to history to get it looking as beautiful, and as accurate to the original colors, as we could. The muted palette and the delicate watercolor backgrounds evoke the illustrated fairy tales that Walt so loved, and the story and characters continue to resonate to this day. I hope our work inspires future generations of animation artists to fully appreciate the masterful talent and care that has gone into this landmark film.” Kevin Schaeffer, director of Restoration for Walt Disney Studios, said. “We are incredibly excited to go back to Walt’s original negative and use current state-of-the-art technology to restore this stunning classic to its original beauty.” “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” stands as one of the greatest triumphs in animation history, as the first full-length cel animated feature in the history of motion pictures. The film was recognized by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences with a special honorary Oscar® - one large Oscar accompanied by seven smaller ones - which was presented to Walt Disney by Shirley Temple. The film is the highest-ranked animated feature on the American Film Institute’s “100 Years…100 Movies” list and was inducted into the National Film Registry in the registry’s inaugural year, 1989.

  17. While I would keep this in the rumor pile until we get additional confirmation, /Flim is reporting that actress Rosario Dawson (Daredevil) will be taking up the role of Jedi Ahsoka Tano in the second season of the Disney+ Mandalorian series. Up until now Ahsoka is a character that has only appeared in animated form. The character was originally created for the Clone Wars animated series to be Anakin's Padawan. We have seen the fan-favorite character grow over the years and survive the great Jedi purge after the events depicted in Revenge of the Sith. An older version of the character was last seen in the Star Wars Rebels animated series which took place right before A New Hope.
