  2. The Blue Beetle teaser poster was released today during the DC Studios and Warner Bros. Discovery’s CCXP presentation Saturday in São Paulo, Brazil. The Blue Beetle is based on alien scarab beetle that gives young Jamie Reyes (Xolo Maridueña) his otherworldly powers. Susan Sarandon stars as the villainous Victoria Kord, with Belissa Escodobo, Bruna Marquezine, George Lopez, Raoul Max Trujillo, and Harvey Guillen. The feature is being directed by Angel Manuel Soto from a script by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer Blue Beetle is currently scheduled for August 18th, 2023.
  3. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Sharon Stone and Raoul Max Trujillo have joined the cast of the DCU Blue Beetle. Stone will play the villain Victoria Ford and Trujillo will play Carapax the Indestructible Man. The character of Victoria Ford is a newly created character for the movie and In the comics, the character is Conrad Carapax, an archeologist whose mind-melds with the body of a robot. Blue Bettle stars Xolo Maridueña, who will play teenager Jaime Reyes, who gains superpowers when he encounters alien armor. Blue Beetle marks DC’s first film to star a Latino hero. The film is being directed by Angel Manuel Soto from a script by writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. Warner Bros. has planned an August 18th, 2023 theater release.

Angel Manuel Soto will be helming DC’s first film to center on a Latino superhero from a script by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. Multiple iterations of Blue Beetle have existed in the comics, with the film focusing on Jaime Reyes, an El Paso teen who uses alien armor granted by a strange artifact to defend his hometown. Reyes first debuted in the comics in 2006 from creators Keith Giffen, John Rogers, and Cully Hamner. Blue Beetle first appeared as a Fox Comics character in 1939 from creator Charles Wojtkowski. The character went through different companies before landing back at DC in the 1980s. The Blue Beetle project will focus on the most recent version of Blue Beetle introduced in 2006 by a Mexican-American teenager named Jaime Reyes. His powers come from a mysterious scarab that binds to Reyes’ spine and provides him with a powerful suit of blue alien armor that can also equip him with bespoke weapons and wings. Soto is credited with directing “La Granja” (“The Farm”), “Charm City Kings” and “12 O’Clock Boys.” Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer wrote “Miss Bala” and an earlier draft of Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming remake of “Scarface." The Blue Beetle film is looking to start production in early 2022. John Rickard is producing for HBO Max. Zev Foreman is executive producing.

  6. Beloved DC characters Kamandi, The Losers, Blue Beetle and Constantine are the focus of four new DC Showcase animated shorts for release by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment in 2021-2022. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, DC and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, and inspired by characters and stories from throughout the iconic DC canon, the all-new quartet of shorts will be included on upcoming releases of DC Universe Movies, with exception of the lengthier Constantine short. The Constantine short will serve as the anchor for a compilation set to be distributed in 2022. More information will be released closer to individual street dates. All four new DC Showcase shorts are produced by Rick Morales (Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge). Directed by Matt Peters (Justice League Dark: Apokolips War) from a script written by Paul Giacoppo (Young Justice, Star Wars: Resistance), Kamandi: The Last Boy on Earth! will be the first of the new shorts to be released. The post-apocalyptic thriller will be attached as a bonus feature to Justice Society: World War II in Spring 2021. Launched in 2010, DC Showcase was originally comprised of four animated shorts: The Spectre (2/23/2010), Jonah Hex (7/27/2010), Green Arrow (9/28/2010) and Superman/Shazam: The Return of Black Adam (11/9/2010). An additional short, Catwoman (10/18/2011), was attached the following year to the release of Batman: Year One. For 2019-2020, DC Showcase returned with five shorts: Sgt. Rock (8/6/2019) Death (10/22/2019), The Phantom Stranger (3/17/2020), Adam Strange (5/19/2020), and the interactive Batman: Death in the Family (10/13/2020). Actors featured on DC Showcase shorts have included Malcolm McDowell, James Garner (in his final performance), Jerry O’Connell, Linda Hamilton, Karl Urban, Gary Cole, Alyssa Milano, Bruce Greenwood, Thomas Jane, Michael Rooker, Eliza Dushku, Neal McDonough, Ariel Winter, Danica McKeller, George Newbern, Michelle Trachtenberg, Charlie Weber, Arnold Vosloo, Leonard Nam, Jamie Chung, Peter Serafinowicz and Michael Rosenbaum.
