  1. The Hollywood Reporter interviewed Ben Affleck for a cover story and Affleck talks about his career, his life, his movies, the production company he launched with Matt Damon, Justice League, and why he’s done with D.C., You can read the complete interview here. ...About his new production company and what he feels went wrong with Justice League? Affleck talked about Zack Snyder’s fans being so intense online. Would he direct for DC if the studio asked him to direct?
  2. Vanity Fair is reporting that Ben Affleck will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne in the upcoming big-screen version of The Flash. The Flash movie is being directed by Andy Muschietti (Stephen King’s It and It Chapter Two) and will feature fast-moving hyper-hero Barry Allen, played by Ezra Miller, breaking the bonds of physics to crash into various parallel dimensions, where he’ll encounter slightly different versions of DC’s classic heroes. It’s an adaptation of DC’s 2011 Flashpoint series of comic book crossovers. The project is set for a 2022 release. “His Batman has a dichotomy that is very strong, which is his masculinity—because of the way he looks, and the imposing figure that he has, and his jawline —but he’s also very vulnerable,” Muschietti said in an interview. “He knows how to deliver from the inside out, that vulnerability. He just needs a story that allows him to bring that contrast, that balance.” “He’s a very substantial part of the emotional impact of the movie. The interaction and relationship between Barry and Affleck’s Wayne will bring an emotional level that we haven’t seen before,” the director added. "It’s Barry’s movie, it’s Barry’s story, but their characters are more related than we think. They both lost their mothers to murder, and that’s one of the emotional vessels of the movie. That’s where the Affleck Batman kicks in.” “I’m glad to be collaborating with someone who has been on both sides of the camera, too,” Muschietti said. “He understands.” As for the storyline, Michael Keaton’s Batman from the 1989 Tim Burton film is also set to appear in what Muschietti said was a “substantial” part. Affleck's version of The Dark Knight is important to the DC’s movie universe as Affleck’s gray-templed Bruce Wayne is the one Ezra's Flash would consider “the original Batman,” the Batman that The Flkash had already fought alongside. Muschietti said it wouldn’t work as well for him to venture into the company of other Batmen without having Affleck as the starting point. “He’s the baseline. He’s part of that unaltered state before we jump into Barry’s adventure,” the director said. “There's a familiarity there.”
  3. In an interview published by The New York Times via Deadline, Ben Affleck has revealed his true reasons on why he decided to leave The Batman and it all came down to alcohol. The two-time Oscar winner admitted that between his struggles with alcohol, his divorce from Jennifer Garner, and all the problems with the shoot on Justice League that he had to abandon the role of Bruce Wayne. “I showed somebody The Batman script,” Affleck told the Times. “They said, ‘I think the script is good. I also think you’ll drink yourself to death if you go through what you just went though again.” Affleck said he “drank relatively normally,” but then things got out-of-control. “I drank relatively normally for a long time. What happened was that I started drinking more and more when my marriage was falling apart,” he explained. “You’re trying to make yourself feel better with eating or drinking or sex or gambling or shopping or whatever,” the actor and director explained. “But that ends up making your life worse. Then you do more of it to make that discomfort go away. Then the real pain starts. It becomes a vicious cycle you can’t break. That’s at least what happened to me.” The 47-year old actor's marriage to Garner ended in 2018 and he played the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, and a cameo in Suicide Squad. A new movie about the caped crusader, The Batman is being film with Robert Pattinson taking over the title role. Directed and co-written by Matt Reeves, the film co-stars Zoë Kravitz, Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Jayme Lawson and Peter Sarsgaard. The film is set to premiere on June 25th, 2021.
  4. Warner Bros. is taking the next Batman movie in a new direction which will not be including Ben Affleck. The next Batman movie has been set for June 25th, 2021 and will be focusing on a younger Bruce Wayne. A search is underway for a new Dark Knight. Affleck confirmed the original report by Deadline via Twitter with the message: Excited for #TheBatman in Summer 2021 and to see @MattReevesLA vision come to life. Matt Reeves has been attached to the project as both a writer and director in February 2017, taking over for Affleck who was originally set to direct off a script he wrote with DC’s Geoff Johns. Sources have confirmed that the new Batman movie will not be based on Frank Miller’s Batman: Year One comic which is one of Reeves’ favorites in the Caped Crusader canon.
  5. Warner Bros' DCU Chaos Continues - Flash Delayed, Ben Affleck & Henry Cavill Out Entertainment by Jay Cochran - [edit post] October 16, 2018 Variety is reporting the the Flash stand-alone movie which is slated to star Ezra Miller from the Justice League movie will be delayed till some time in 2021. While the movie has never received an official release date, it was expected to start shooting next March and be released some time in 2020. According to the report, the script for the Flash movie is still being tweaked and that Miller himself will soon begin working on the third installment of the Fantastic Beasts trilogy where he has a sizeable supporting role, hence causing him to have a scheduling conflict. Warner Bros' DC Cinematic Universe has been struggling with chaos ever since their Justice League movie failed to perform well at the box office. Variety in this very report seems to confirm rumors that both Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill are officially out as Batman and Superman. Up until now the only modern DC movie to do well at the box office has ben Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman which is already getting a sequel later this year. After that in December Aquaman who is portrayed by Justice League alum Jason Momoa is next up for the stand-alone film treatment, but it is unknown how well it will perform. It's got its work cut out for it if you ask me. If Aquaman has another lack-luster performance at the box-office for Warner Bros, one has to wonder if they will be willing to role the dice at all on Flash or if they will just try and start over completely from scratch. We already have seen them starting to move forward with a Joker stand-alone movie that will star Joaquin Phoenix and seemingly has no connection with the Jared Leto version recently seen in Suicide Squad. Suicide Squad itself may be heading for a major re-haul as it was another movie that was not received well by most DC fans. Recent reports have suggested that Warner Bros is looking to bring in former Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn to write the script and possibly direct the next film. Gunn himself was recently fired by Disney for old tweets dug up online dealing with rape and pedophilia. While many fans have been willing to continue to support the somewhat disgraced director, the move to bring him in on another comic book based project has been viewed by some as nothing more than a publicity stunt on the part of Warner Bros. The future of the DCCU is unclear but everything Warner Bros. does seems to scream to me at least that they really have no clear cut vision for the property, and are just being reactive instead of proactive with it. To me that doesn't bode well for a comic book based universe that will ever be able to dethrone Marvel and Disney as king of the big screen super heroes.
