its funny, Eminem stole a lot of his ideas from ICP, but nothing is heard. ICP still goes platinum without major airplay. MTV's B***Hboy Eminem hates them so they'll never get on MTV, And the TRL call in or email thing is a crock, they choose who they want to be where in the countdown. So screw MTV and Eminem. #US1#
Calm down, Ska. Besides, in terms of skills, both members of ICP combined make Eminem look like KRS-One. @loll@

I can't even say if I look at him as a credible MC anymore.
But I dunno, I think I'm just sick of hearing MC's sing on their songs, and I don't really wanna see them bust a robot either, leave that #$## to the real b-boys please.
Like I said, MMLP was his finest hour. After that, he just kept going downhill. Now his lyrics are so wack, I don't really consider him an emcee anymore. Now instead of making hip-hop that pop fans will like, he's making POP that pop fans will like. He's fallen off, and there's no coming back. The old Eminem who wore earrings, dissed gays, and basically pissed off everyone, is now gone. He's been replaced by a pop artist. But I don't care, he was never the best rapper out there anyway. He has always been highly overrated due to his skin color.

Cha, once again you are the friggin' man. I love N.W.A to death. They weren't afraid to say what was on their minds, even when it got them in trouble.
Its funny. You were still eating formula when Straight outta Compton was released. How old were you or when did you start listening to NWA.
As classic as "Straight Outta Compton" is, the best NWA disc was "EFILE4ZAGGIN".
"Alwayz inta Something" will alwayz be my favorite NWA song.
I started listening to rap back in elementary school. I'll admit N.W.A was long gone by that time, but even today their messages are relevent to everyday life.
And one of my favorite N.W.A songs (not my favorite, but still great) was always "If It Ain't Ruff". Ren has always been the most underrated member of the group, and this track really showed that he had skills.

Here are some of my favorite lyrics:
"My Philosophy" by Boogie Down Productions
Let's begin, what, where, why, or when
will all be explained like instructions to a game
See I'm not insane, in fact, I'm kind of rational
when I be asking you, "Who is more dramatical?"
This one or that one, the white one or the black one
pick the punk, and I'll jump up to attack one
KRS-One is just the guy to lead a crew
right up to your face and dis you
Everyone saw me on the last album cover
Holding a pistol something far from a lover
Beside my brother, S-C-O-T-T
I just laughed, cause no one can defeat me
This is lecture number two, "My Philosophy"
Number one, was "Poetry" you know it's me
This is my philosophy, many artists got to learn
I'm not flammable, I don't burn
so please stop burnin, and learn to earn respect
'cause that's just what KR collects
see, what do you expect when you rhyme like a soft punk
you walk down the street and get jumped
You got to have style, and learn to be original
and everybody's gonna wanna diss you
like me, we stood up for the South Bronx
and every sucka mc had a response
You think we care? I know that they are on the tip
my posse from the Bronx is thick
and we're real live, we walk correctly
a lot of suckas would like to forget me
but they can't, cause like a champ
I have got a record of knocking out the frauds in a second
on the mic, I believe that you should get loose
I haven't come to tell you I have juice
I just produce, create, innovate on a higher level
I'll be back, but for now just seckle!
I'll play the nine and you play the target
you all know my name so I guess I'll just start it
or should I say, "Start this," I am an artist
of new concepts at their hardest
cause, yo, I'm a teacher and Scott is a scholar
It ain't about money cause we all make dollars
That's why I walk with my head up
when I hear wack rhymes I get fed up
Rap is like a set-up, a lot of games
a lot of suckas with colorful names
I'm so-and-so, I'm this, I'm that
huh, but they all just wick-wick-wack
I'm not white or red or black
I'm brown.. from the Boogie Down
Productions, of course our music be thumpin'
others say their bad, but they're buggin
let me tell you somethin' now about hip hop
about D-Nice, Melodie, and Scott La Rock
I'll get a pen, a pencil, a marker
mainly what I write is for the average New Yorker
some mc's be talkin' and talkin'
tryin' to show how black people are walkin
but I don't walk this way to portray
or reinforce stereotypes of today
like all my brothas eat chicken and watermelon
talk broken english and drug sellin'
See I'm tellin, and teaching real facts
The way some act in rap is kind of wack
and it lacks creativity and intelligence
but they don't care cause the company is sellin' it
It's my philosophy, on the industry
Don't bother dissin me, or even wish that we'd
soften, dilute, or commercialize all our lyrics
Cause it's about time one of y'all hear it
And hear it first-hand from the intelligent brown man
A vegetarian, no goat or ham
or chicken or turkey or hamburger
'cause to me that's suicide self-murder
let us get back to what we call hip hop
and what it meant to DJ Scott La Rock...
How many mc's must get dissed
before somebody says, "Don't f*** with Kris!"
this is just one style, out of many
Like a piggy bank, this is one penny
My brother's name is Kenny - that's, Kenny Parker
My other brother I.C.U. is much darker
Boogie Down Productions is made up of teachers
the lecture is conducted from the mic into the speaker
Who gets weaker? The king or the teacher
It's not about a salary it's all about reality
Teachers teach and do the world good
kings just rule and most are never understood
If you were to rule or govern a certain industry
All inside this room right now would be in misery
No one would get along nor sing a song
'cause everyone'd be singing for the king, am I wrong?!
So yo, what's up, it's me again
Scott La Rock, KRS, BDP again
many people had the nerve to think we would end the trend
We're criminal minded, an album which is only ten
Funky, funky, funky, funky, funky hit records
no more than four minutes and some seconds
the competition checks and checks and keeps checkin'
they buy the album, take it home, and start sweatin'
why? well it's simple, to them it's kind of vital
to take KRS-One's title
to them I'm like an idol, some type of entity
in everybody's rhyme they wanna mention me?
or rather mention us, me or Scott La Rock
but they can get bust get robbed, get dropped
I don't play around nor do I f*** around
and you can tell by the bodies that are left around
when some clown jumps up to get beat down
broken down to his very last compound
see how it sounds? a little unrational
a lot of mc's like to use the word DRAMATICAL!
Fresh for '88, you suckas..

From "Sucker M.C.s" by Run-D.M.C.
I'm D.M.C. in the place to be
I go to St. John's University
And since kinde-garten I acquired the knowledge
And after 12th grade I went straight to college
I'm light skinned, I live in Queens
And I love eatin chicken and collard greens
I dress to kill, I love the style
I'm an MC you know who's versatile
Say I got good credit in your regards
Got my name not numbers on my credit cards
I go Uptown, I come back home
with who me myself and my microphone
All my rhymes are sweet delight
So here's another one for y'all to bite
When I rhyme, I never quit
And if I got a new rhyme I'll just say it
Cause it takes a lot, to entertain
And sucker MC's can be a pain
You can't rock a party with the hip in hop
You gotta let em know you'll never stop
The rhymes have to make (a lot of sense)
You got to know where to start (when the beats commence..)

From "The Message" by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five
A child is born with no state of mind
Blind to the ways of mankind
God is smilin' on you but he's frownin' too
Because only God knows what you'll go through
You'll grow in the ghetto livin' second-rate
And your eyes will sing a song called deep hate
The places you play and where you stay
Looks like one great big alleyway
You'll admire all the number-book takers
Thugs, pimps and pushers and the big money-makers
Drivin' big cars, spendin' twenties and tens
And you'll wanna grow up to be just like them, huh
Smugglers, scramblers, burglars, gamblers
Pickpocket peddlers, even panhandlers
You say I'm cool, huh, I'm no fool
But then you wind up droppin' outta high school
Now you're unemployed, all non-void
Walkin' round like you're Pretty Boy Floyd
Turned stick-up kid, but look what you done did
Got sent up for a eight-year bid
Now your manhood is took and you're a Maytag
Spend the next two years as a undercover #$###
Bein' used and abused to serve like hell
'til one day, you was found hung dead in the cell
It was plain to see that your life was lost
You was cold and your body swung back and forth
But now your eyes sing the sad, sad song
Of how you lived so fast and died so young
--Melle Mel

Well im not to sure about the archive message feature. I tried it, and it doesn't really od anything.
It does work, you need to save it as a HTML page. It will combine all PM's into one file which you can save on your computer so you can free up space in your pm box.
Yeah, it's actually a cool thing to do if you want to look at some of the older PMs you've received. I actually have PMs from like '02 of me and Sith talking about one of my threads in the Monkey Room. @loll@

NEW YORK (Nov. 13) - The rap artist O.D.B., whose utterly unique rhymes, wild lifestyle and incessant legal troubles made him one of the most vivid characters in hip-hop, collapsed and died inside a recording studio Saturday. He was 35.
O.D.B. had complained of chest pains before collapsing at the Manhattan studio, and was dead by the time paramedics arrived, said Gabe Tesoriero, a spokesman for O.D.B.'s record label, Roc-a-Fella.
The cause of death was not immediately clear, but O.D.B. had recently finished a prison sentence for drug possession and escaping a rehab clinic. He would have turned 36 on Monday.
O.D.B. -- also known as Ol' Dirty Bastard, Dirt McGirt, Big Baby Jesus or his legal name of Russell Jones -- was a founding member of the seminal rap group the Wu-Tang Clan in the early 1990s. With his unorthodox delivery -- alternately slurred, hyper and nonsensical -- O.D.B. stood out even in the nine-man Clan, which featured such future stars as Method Man, RZA and Ghostface Killah.
The Wu-Tang blueprint was for each member to pursue solo projects, and O.D.B.'s were among the best. He released hit singles such as "Shimmy Shimmy Ya" and "Got Your Money," and appeared on remixes with artists like Mariah Carey.
"There's nobody like him in the game," RZA told The Associated Press in an April interview, when asked if O.D.B. could resume his career after prison. "He's got a lot of problems he's got to iron out, of course, but as far as a one-of-a-kind person, a one-of-a-kind artist, he's one of a generation, one of a lifetime. He's a very rare commodity."
But as his fame increased, so did his erratic behavior, and fans came to expect the unexpected from O.D.B.
When MTV News followed him around at the height of his popularity, he took the camera crew and several of his kids (he was said to have more than a dozen, by numerous mothers) to the welfare office - in a limousine - to get an allotment of food stamps.
And he received them.
In February 1998, he crashed the stage at the Grammy Awards and hijacked a microphone from singer Shawn Colvin as she accepted an award, apparently upset over losing the best rap album Grammy to P. Diddy (then known as Puff Daddy). He complained that he spent a lot of money for new clothes because he thought he was going to win. The rapper later apologized.
Over the years, he was wounded in shootings and arrested on a veritable laundry list of charges, including menacing security officers, illegally possessing body armor, driving with a suspended license, shoplifting and threatening a former girlfriend.
In 2000, after escaping a court-ordered stint in a California rehabilitation center, authorities searched for him for a month. He was finally arrested in Philadelphia - three days after performing in a New York City concert with his Wu-Tang clique.
He was sentenced in 2001 to two to four years in prison for drug possession, plus two concurrent years for escaping from the clinic. He was released in 2003 and immediately signed with Roc-a-Fella.
He heralded his return with a news conference alongside singer Carey - pop fans may know him best for his memorable cameo on her hit "Fantasy," featuring rhymes like "me and Mariah, go back like babies with pacifiers."
Tesoriero said O.D.B. had been working on his comeback album for more than a year and was almost finished.
"Russell inspired all of us with his spirit, wit, and tremendous heart," Roc-A-Fella founder Damon Dash said in a statement. "The world has lost a great talent, but we mourn the loss of our friend."
His mother, Cherry Jones, said she received the news of her son's death in a phone call, which she called "every mother's worst dream."
"To the public he was known as Old Dirty Bastard, but to me he was known as Rusty. The kindest most generous soul on earth," her statement said. "Russell was more than a rapper, he was a loving father, brother, uncle, and most of all, son."

This blows. He may not have been the most talented, most featured, or even the most sane member of the Wu-Tang Clan, but he was a founding member. The Clan is one of my favorite new school rap groups, and it's really sad that one of the originals has died.

Well, I mostly only listen to hip-hop and classic R&B. Since pretty much all rap on the radio nowadays is #$##, I just listen to my CDs. I don't really listen to the radio anymore. Come on, I'd rather listen to the old school legends than some dude named Chingy or Ja Rule. @loll@
-
Like I said before, his first two albums were his shining moment. Once The Eminem Show came out, it was all downhill from there. But I don't consider him one of the best emcees ever, by any means. His only album I own is MMLP, and I haven't listened to that in a while.
I also HIGHLY disagree with the statement that he's one of the most controversial rappers ever. Not even close...
-
I don't even know why this is an argument. It IS "Bow-ba" - that's how it's pronounced in the movie every time.
Bobba sounds too much like Bubba. To me it sounds really dumb.
My thoughts exactly. They call him "Bow-Buh" all throughout AOTC, and I think Han pronounces it the same way on the barge (but it's hard to tell with so much action going on).
-
Geez, 100% so far. Poor Lando...
LOL, I seriously doubt Billy Dee Williams really gives a crap about how he pronounces Han's name. @loll@
Even so, I do pronounce it "Hahn".

To me, the guy is nothing but another Justin Timberlake who swears a lot and makes fun of people. Theres no talent in dissing other pop stars or media. And before any "Em" haters go spouting that he's not a "pop" star, but a "rapper" look at who his music is aimed at. Pre-teen girls and High School Jock sniffers who think Em is "pure hip-hop".Â
I'm not denying that the kid has mic skills and rhymes. But then again it doesn't take that much effort to diss other Pop stars, his mom, or his ex-wife.
He's 100% fake to me. Is his material "controversial"? No. A lot of old school (and more talented rappers) have been dueling it out way longer than he has and have been rapping bout killing their ladies or "ho's" before he came along.
I agree that he's not PURE hip-hop compared to the legends of the late 70's to early 90's, but then again, 95% of the rappers out nowadays are just bull #$## artists who are in it for the money. While Eminem does suck ass now, he was the man in 2000 (compared to many other mainstream artists at the time). About five years ago, I probably would've cussed you out for dissing Eminem. Fortunately, I'm more mature now -- in musical tastes and otherwise -- and can recognize that Em has fallen off. Let's face it, in this day and age every non-underground artist sucks major ass. @loll@
Actually, I'm now wondering if I only liked Eminem back then because I was younger and less mature. @loll@
EDIT: A funny fact I just found out recently. Grandmaster Flash actually likes Eminem and thinks he sounds like Melle Mel. @hmmm@
Not true, Kokane, Above the Law, Ant Banks, E-40, Dre Dog aka Andre Nickatina, all drop some great albums, new ones even.
WTF #WTF#
McFly what'd you do to your name!!!!
I was like who in the hell is this Jabroni til I realized it was you. @smilepunch@
Anyways, only rap albums anybody should own is:
Comptons Most Wanted "Music to Driveby"
NWA "Straight outta Compton" and "N***AZFORLIFE"
Spice 1 "187 He Wrote"
Dr. Dre "the Chronic"

Geto Boys "We Can't Be Stopped"
Scarface "The Diary"
South Central Cartel "Its an S.C.C. Thang"

LOL, you believe that coming from the mouths of these people? I read the article, and those people insult hip-hop, calling rappers "talentless blacks" who only rap so they don't have to get jobs? If you read the article, it's clearly biased.
EDIT: KRS-One is not my idol, or even my favorite rapper for that matter. I'm just mad about the attitude of this writer.
I didn't say it was fair and balanced, but the Author's right about one thing, KRS-One despises the very thing which made him rich and famous, that, to me shows what a hypocrite he is. I love the first BDP album ,
I even like Return of the Boom Bap, but he has gotten to be very strange and out there in his beliefs these last few years.
Oh don't worry, I agree completely. I just think that writer is a royal douchebag.
Oh, and the second BDP album is okay too. Don't know if it's as good as Criminal Minded, but it's pretty damn good. I don't currently own a copy of either, but if I ever find them on CD I'll be glad.

I like his voice and the way he puts himself across. He's a very fun artist, and funny to listen too. I'm not that big of a fan but he's the only rap I can stand without feeling the need to shoot myself.
You picked the wrong rap, brother. Eminem was good a few years ago, but he's gotten gayer now. I think you probably like him because he's white. (Not saying you're racist, just saying it's probably easier for you to relate to him or whatever.) Whatever your reason for hating rap so much besides Eminem, it's ignorant to do so. I used to hate all other music. Now look at me! I can tolerate classic rock, R&B, and several other types of music. You just gotta give different artists a try, instead of judging modern rap as all hip-hop. When I hear 50 Cent on the radio, the radio goes off. If I heard Run-DMC on the radio, it'd be a different story. @loll@

I said 95% of the rappers of today suck. Maybe it's more like 70%. And then later I did say that every non-underground artist sucks, that was being too harsh too. The Masta Killa album that came out this summer is...well, killa. But then again, he's from the Wu-Tang.
Lately I've gotten off of West Coast rap anyway, except for a few like Pac and the occasional N.W.A. I like old school waaay better anyway.

I liked the Eminem Show CD. However, I don't know if I could handle anymore of him. It just depends on how fresh this new one will be. I mean, how many songs can you sing about comin from nothin, to being on top?
For me, it's all about The Slim Shady LP and The Marshall Mathers LP. Definitely great albums. I don't like him anymore, though. I thought that The Eminem Show was okay, but after that he just got worse and worse. His rhymes got FAR less creative, and his new song just blows, IMO. But for a time, he had just about the best subject material compared to most of the other mainstream rappers out at the time. However, I don't want anyone to accuse me of preaching a "history lesson," so I'll just shut up. @loll@

Wow! I recently dug up some formerly lost CDs--new and old--in my room, and also bought a few new ones recently. Gotta add to the list:
Slick Rick - The Great Adventures of Slick Rick
Masta Killa - No Said Date
N.W.A - Greatest Hits

And Korn covering Cameo's Word Up? WTF?
That's sacrelige...

I would say neither. You guys arent collecting the same things. Its like coin collecting. I may collect Dimes while you collect quarter. They are both coins but not the same.
You hit the nail right on the head, SS49.

I hate to admit this, but I like "U Can't Touch This" by MC Hammer. I mean, it's such pop-rap, but for some reason I like it. Very good use of Rick James' "Super Freak" beat.
