  1. You noticed that too, huh? As for the figures -- they're pretty much crap and character selections I couldn't care less about. Need Planet Hulk for fodder -- possibly Herc as well. That's it. I was originally planning on getting Banshee, but I don't recall seeing a worse ML figure since Toad.
  2. One could also say, though, that they could release a lot of larger figures by making their limbs removeable. Hell, a Sentinel could fit into ML packaging if you rip his arms and legs off and stack them in beside him. Skrull's arms were detachable because that's his 'action feature.' I just don't think it's going to happen like that for normal MLs. I -certainly- would not mind being wrong, as I still haven't completed a single BAF simply because I don't need all the figures and I'm not industrious enough to start tracking down 10 different parts at 2-5 bucks plus shipping a piece. As for Vulture - I'm not sure he's a fair comparison. First of all, he's smaller by about an inch or an inch-and-a-half than Sauron should be, and slimmer overall, making for a generally smaller figure. Second of all, look at the packaging he comes in. It's a boxed set - and his arms are outstretched in either direction. He's not confined by the smaller singles packaging. Also, just going back to the articulation issue, Vulture has feathered wings, so the cut in them at the elbow which allows his arms to move freely looks fine. I don't think that would look nearly as good with Sauron's leathery wings. Vulture's wings are also not connected to his back like Sauron's should be, which would further hamper articulation. Anywho . . just thinking out loud really. I'd love to see Sauron in normal packaging if they could pull it off. Saves me the irritation of having yet another BAF that I want but won't be able to complete.
  3. Not sure what the exact policies are. I know that -my- Paypal account required a credit card backing, even though my payments come from my bank account, not a credit card. Maybe it's just for Paypalers in Canada, or International in general? Agreed. And that's how pretty much every company and agency works. When I moved up here to Canada from the States, I had to pay GST (Canadian Tax) on the boxes of MY OWN STUFF that had to be shipped to me. I'm talking about things like old socks, 15-year-old CDs with broken cases, frayed books, gaming dice. . . mundane things that I've owned for years. And I had to pay tax on them as if I'd just bought them.
  4. Interesting. Not really surprising either. Some people find an interest and they just stick with it. And if you can afford it, more power to you. I'm into WMA so I know a lot of fellow sword-collectors whose personal collections are around 20-100 thousand dollars. If you have the scratch, use it on something you like, I say.
  5. Paypal accounts, so far as I'm aware, are also backed by the owner's credit card. There's a reason that they require you to give them information like that even though your credit card has nothing to do with Paypal. I'm fairly certain they can take the money out of that if they need to.
  6. I think these guys are both small enough for normal packaging. They're certainly not any bigger than Hulk -- who can fit comfortably in the normal packaging. Well, he's 7 feet tall. Alone that doesn't mean much, but combined with his wings, I think he'd be better served as a BAF. His wings are attached to his arms. I can't see Hasbro finding a decent way to do that with a 7-inch figure. They'd have to find a way to fit his wings and tail in the packaging. Angel was only possible because his wings attach at his back, so they could be removed. But Sauron's wings are part of his arms, so his arms would actually have to be removable to fit him into the package. Not sure about that - it's just how I see it happening, so it seems more likely to be a BAF. But if one could find a way to get his wingspan in the packaging without something lame like attaching his wings separately to his back and making him look like a bat-creature, I'd be all for a non-BAF Sauron. But to be honest, I don't know how they'd make Sauron anyway. Due to the nature of his wings, he wouldn't have any wrist or elbow articulation, and possibly no bicep articulation either. Or his wings would have to be slit at the elbow to allow them to move, which wouldn't look all that great. And now I'm just babbling. . .
  7. It wasn't a waste because it was designed to protect the comic, which it did. It could only rightly be called a waste if there was no reason for it, or if there was another viable option that was 'less wasteful.' But yes, WITHOUT comics (which TB was planning to do away with anyway, apparently), the clamshell serves no purpose. Hence, Hasbro dumped it when they dumped the comics.

    Hasbro's Icons

Thor looks great. Although that's more a testament to TB's excellent GM-Wave Thor than anything else. The Wolverine is as sucky as the TB one -- obviously since they're the same sculpt. The least Hasbro could do is fix that god-awful tiny head. I was really hoping for that. Oh well. I might get Thor -- though I still haven't even picked up TB's unmasked Wolverine icon.
  9. I couldn't care less how my figures are packaged so long as the figure ITSELF is good. I take mine out of their packaging anyway. I still feel, though, that the TB packaging was a little more eye-catching, whereas the Hasbro packaging blends too much with every other toy packaging out on the pegs.
  10. People do it all the time. Check the Trade boards. As for the figures -- meh. I'm not overly impressed with Series 2 anymore than I am with Series 1. We'll see what they look like in stores. Shouldn't be too long now.
  11. Over on Fwoosh Jesse commented on this. It's a problem with all the Mandarin figures. The factory made a mistake and produced the piece in plastic that's far too thick, thus it doesn't move like it should. Presumably, if the factory had made it correctly, Mandarin would be near-fully poseable.
  12. Going back a bit here, but. . . To me, this is no different from scalping. Can someone explain the difference between picking up an extra Destroyer to sell for 50 bucks on eBay, and picking up an extra Destroyer to use as leverage to get the Dark Phoenix that would also sell for around 50 or more on eBay? Yeah, there's no difference. Either way, you're depriving other people of a figure they want, which you don't need, in order to get something else for yourself. Unfortunately, too many people seem to treat trading forums like that. They see it as an opportunity to grab whatever figures are at hand and might be sought after, in order to get other sought-after figures that they don't have yet. It's no different from getting extra figures to sell on eBay, and then using that money to buy the figure you actually wanted. Now, I'm not talking about people who are actually doing it for someone in particular. Like if Bronz X mentioned he needs a Destroyer -- and I happen to see two of them the next day at WalMart. I'd certainly pick one up for myself (well, I wouldn't, because I don't want him, but that's not the point) and one for Bronz X. But that's entirely different from picking up a figure for the sole purpose of putting it on your trade thread. The only exception to that rule is people who live in largely scalper-ific areas, who are picking up extra figures to put on their trade threads in order to get other collectors a good deal, rather than watching them get ripped off by eBay scalpers. That said, if you pick up an extra Juggernaut that you don't need which you happen across at KB and then insist that you'll only accept a phasing Ghost Rider or Dark Phoenix in trade -- to me you're a scalper.
  13. It's the same as it always has been. In some places there are variants literally clogging the pegs, and in other places you couldn't find a single one if you bribed a store manager and your state's senator. It's always been that way for ML. Every single wave that comes out there are people talking about how variants are abundant in their area, and other people complaining that they can't find any. Hopefully some will hit in your area soon and you'll get there in time to nab them. Good luck.
  14. As was said - they've already BEEN doing this. (Much of ML6 Wolverine was used for GM-wave Weapon X, I believe Sentry, Wonder Man, and Black Panther share a good deal of parts, etc etc). So .. yeah. If they did it, it would be no different from what they've been doing all along. My only objection would be if they started doing it when it doesn't work for the character. For instance using AoA Sabretooth for Punisher, or Psylocke for She-Hulk. As long as the body mold works for the character, what exactly is there to object to?
  15. Wendigo is my most-wanted BAF. Followed by Nimrod and Sauron.

    Playsets

Honestly, I think this is something that Marvel Select is more likely to tackle than Hasbro is. It also makes me think that it's too bad Hasbro is moving to five-inch scale for the 'kid-friendly' stuff (Marvel Heroes is what they're calling it, or something, right?). I think we'd be more likely to see scaled playsets for kids' toys than for 'collectors' toys.'

    Playsets

I'd absolutely buy ML-scale 'extra large bases' -- if that's what is meant here by 'playsets.' I'd also considering buying playsets that have action features/moving parts, but I'd be very discerning as to the specifics. Some moving parts or action features in a playset won't mess with the look of it, and so that's fine with me. But if it was stuff that ruins the look of the playset, then no, I'd pass. Basically what I want is to expand on the bases ML used to have, making them larger and capable of holding lots of figures. That would be very cool -- as someone else said, it's better than 'the giant dresser' or 'the bookshelf.' NYC Rooftop would be cool -- Spiderman, Punisher, Moon Knight, etc. Or a Danger Room 'playset' large enough to house five or six X-Men MLs. It's a good idea, and not one that hasn't been mentioned before. But I doubt it'll ever happen. As an aside, I might even buy playsets with lots of action features if it has potential to be customized into something better.
  18. Nice. If you happen to be back that way sometime soon - I still need Pyro and Loki from ML13, and 1.90 is a damn good price.
  19. Slight, but important, difference. He has stated that Hasbro -currently- has no plans to do any boxed sets, in either '07 or later.

    DA MUTHERLOAD!

I read about a sentence into that. I use the term 'sentence' loosely. But from what everyone is saying, apparently you got some good stuff, so congrats!
  21. Only Sentry. I haven't been reading comics for the last few years -- so I wasn't aware of Sentry until they made a figure for him - and that's when I started checking out Civil War and all that. Besides him, I was aware of all the characters they've made so far. Though I admit that some of them I was -only- aware of. Meaning, I wasn't familiar with the character's backstory or powers, but I knew they existed and generally what they looked like. But even those characters are few. Wonder Man, for instance. I didn't know much about him, though I knew he existed. I noticed a few people said Deathlok. I could have written his bio myself. He was a favourite of mine when I was younger. I even had his Marvel Heroes figure.

    Holy Grail

Holy Grail is definitely a personal thing. It is whichever figure you want the most and/or took you the longest to get ahold of, or that you'd be willing to spend the most money to get. In -general-, I'd say the big ones are Phasing Ghost Rider and Dark Phoenix. Those seem to be the ones that people are more than willing to spend absurd amounts of money to get. Juggernaut would follow closely, as well as Destroyer (but for Destroyer it really remains to be seen how difficult he'll be to get, and all these people spending 50 bucks to get him on Ebay may be proven quite foolish in the not-too-distant future). For me there is no Holy Grail figure yet. My most wanted ML - Shatterstar - has yet to be made, and may never exist. Perhaps that makes it more akin to the Holy Grail than any figure that has been made, though.
  23. Let's not lament too quickly. Hasbro is taking it slow - they want to see how well ML will do for them before committing to too much. I have no doubt that if Hasbro's ML survives into '08, we'll see boxed sets. Possibly even before that. It's not like Hasbro is any stranger to multi-figure sets. . . After all, they have not announced any plans to continue the Face-Off series either, but I wouldn't be surprised if the idea came back by late '07.
  24. I believe it was Capman on Fwoosh that posted the barcode. It was either in the stickied ML15 thread, or the bizarre Ebay thread. Yes, this is stupid. But hey - that guy is living the new American dream -- taking advantage of the painfully and criminally stupid.
  25. That's not an error. TB simply decided that Rogue has such a great rear-end that it would make for a good selling point.
