  1. GCPD Alert to all Gotham and Tri-State citizens: be on the look-out for one or more women, aged 15-30, calling herself the 'Harlequin of Crime'. This or these individuals are wanted for questioning in the deaths of four individuals, twenty-seven assaults, and numerous robberies and burglary cases since her or their first appearance three days ago. Eyewitness accounts vary on the 'Harlequin's height and weight, and the use of facepaint lead to the possibility of multiple individuals committing these crimes under one alias. Her comical appearance and use of a Joker-themed bumper car, apparently modified with a nitrous oxide-capable engine, seem to indicate a connection to the notorious 'Joker' individual wanted in connection with the deaths and maimings of dozens of Gothamites. If seen, DO NOT APPROACH IN ANY MANNER. Leave the area and contact the GCPD by calling 911 or 1-800-337-GCPD (4273). The Harlequin is a bash of the DCD Injustice figure's head, skirt, and glove cuffs pasted onto an MU X-23. I removed the top of the calves and created a lower knee hinge socket to bring her legs into proper proportion. The camera flash completely washed out the accordion-folding of the construction paper collar I built, but I made it by wrapping the paper around my triangular file, the wrapping it backwards at half-points to create the reverse folds (hopefully that makes sense). The bumper car is from the ImagiNext Joker playset. I cut the seat out to set it higher, and she folds her knees under to 'grab' the seat bottom.
  2. For all intents and purposes, yellow sunlight is Supes' 'food'. No organism in the world needs food on a constant and immediate basis in order to function. Saying Supes would power down because some shade was thrown over him is like saying a human would fall into coma because food wasn't in their mouth.
  3. I used one of the Annika heads for my Sharon Carter custom onto an LJ body, fwiw. The heads are *great* sculpts and I wish I had money to get them all as there's never enough good female head around. The body is pretty 'meh' still, even with the addition of ball hips. The torso is sculpted so stiff and boobs-out that the fig's just not worth much for all-around action figuring, imho. But all the gear and the head alone is worth $10 for at least one try. I say pick your fave head and take the plunge on at least one of them.
  4. Thanks, gents. I've been trying to rewrite the Marvel, DC, Joe, Star Wars, and StarGate universes as if they'd always been the same universe - which I call my Universe Asunder. I'm also tossing in smatterings of the Hellboy and Image universes here and there. While it's nowhere near a complete or official thing; I've thrown up some notes and ideas about it here: http://adrienveidt.homestead.com/UniverseA....html#anchor_57 If any of you have the time and inclination; I'd be pleased to hear your thoughts on it all.
  5. Most people go for the SS uniform look; but that's not the uniform he wore when I was growing up. Rather he always wore the basic green jumpsuit, the way Kirby drew him. Also, I like my bad guys to look like they're actively engaged in being worthless bastards, not dressing up to make a speech. The Red Skull was born Johann Schmidt in a southern German village, the son of an illiterate, drunken peasant named Hermann, and his long-suffering wife Martha. Martha died in childbirth, and Hermann tried to drown the newborn Johann, blaming him for the death of his mother, and committed suicide the next morning. The infant was rescued by a local doctor, who delivered the infant to an orphanage. Schmidt ran away at age seven, and grew up in and out of prison for petty crimes ranging from vagrancy to theft, constantly beaten and victimized by other thugs. His smouldering anger was given an outlet when he first encountered Hitler; Schmidt was working as a bellboy in a hotel in which Hitler was staying. Hitler was in the middle of berating his general staff, and boasted that he could make "this bell-boy" into a more effective Nazi. Schmidt was given military training, and made into the perfect S.S. soldier. Upon his presentation to Hitler, however, Hitler grew enraged, screaming, "Anyone can make a soldier!” Hitler took Schmidt in hand for personal training as a special operative, giving him the identity and mask of the "Red Skull". When it became obvious that the Nazis were losing the war, the Skull hatched a desperate plan, along with his cohort the Ultra-Humanite. They were going to capture Captain America and replace his brain with Schmidt's brain. Luring Cap to Berlin with a planted leak about the Spear of Destiny being out of Hitler's hands on its way to a secret bunker, Cap was ambushed and taken prisoner. Unfortunately, Cap awoke from his stupor just as the Humanite's bonesaw was cutting into his flesh. Struggling free, the lab caught fire and both the Skull and Humanite were buried in the rubble as Cap fled. Due to the experimental nature of the chemicals and gasses the Humanite used in his brain-swapping surgeries, they were both locked in a pocket in the rubble and they slumbered in stasis for decades. A construction crew were astonished to find the two criminals when digging out the site for an office building; but unable to prevent their escape. Taking the sample of tissue left on the bonesaw, they fled into the night... ---- Fearing the disproportionate number of metahumans in the West, especially America; the Russian Federation initiated Project Red Rocket. Anton Vanko headed up the project: to build suits of armor, each equivalent to a One Man Army Corps. As head of the project, Vanko leads the Red Rocket Brigade as the Crimson Dynamo, and often teams with the Oktober Guard for testing purposes if not actual missions to protect Russian interests around the world. I built these guys off the awesome RevolTech Dougram figures, with some CRAPS heads and the helmets and upper torsos off some flightsuit Gen Hawk figs (or the orange Roadblock versions, to be precise). I'm looking to get another pair of the Dougrams to make another pair of Red Rockets (it's difficult to have a 'Brigade' with just one guy, no?); and I'm thinking of making one of those a chick. ---- Taking a break as grillmaster on this Independence Day; CharBroil models his spiffy new dudes. Due to BF2100's directive to fieldtest new materials and weapons, CB's been given a suit treated with Reed Richards' 'unstable molecules' to test their feasibility in commercial industry and civilian firefighting.
  6. Howdy, folks. No big whoop here on revamping the FF origin to fit them into my Joeverse. I think the classic one works well enough for now; altho I've got an idea that Reed bought the old Joe Crusader off the military surplus list and flew it up for their fateful encounter with the dreaded Cosmic Rays. Anyway, my buddy Liftoff asked me to repair his work on his Torch fig. Seems he'd cut too much out of the calf length and the foot kept falling off. After seeing what I could do, I determined that what I could do was buy another one and have a go at it from scratch. I was gonna try to put more flames around him, so I bought one of the Movie Torch figs for the transluscent flames on him, but ended up using the flame trail base instead, to make Johnny look like he's just launching. I had to use Liftoff's figure's pelvis in the flame trail, so one simply pops the figure apart at the waist to go between standing and launching. I anticipate making a "flame off" Johnny out of the upcoming SS Reed's body and one of the heads laying around that I have off the figures of that Titan AE dude. Here, gander at some pics: /long time lurker, occasional poster; howdy all. Whatta ya think?
  7. I've folded all my 18th scale toys into one universe, obviously having to re-write some scenarios and origins to make them all fit into one coherent universe. It's all got the larger history of the Marvel Universe, but I try to tell the stories so that everything can fit in some manner or another. The Crimson Guard is actually 100 European aristocrats desended from Julius Caesar's Praetorian Guard. After the fall of the Empire, the Guardsmen spread to the corners of Europe and wove their way into the nobility. Position in the Guard isn't dependent upon one's position in "outer" nobility, thus a Baron may command a King while within Guard activities. The Guard is broken into 10 Watches of 10 Guardsmen apiece, and it is inherited from father to son, usually. Their goal is to preserve the right of the Strong to rule over the ignorant masses, as Julius had shown them. Over the centuries, enforcement of this goal has waxed and waned, but the Guard has always worked in secrecy as they fear the power of the masses against them. This has held true until the modern day when the 8th Watch Commander formed a mercenary army of 1,000 men under his direct control, with his subordinate Guardsmen as his officer corps. He told the mercenaries that he was forming an army to fight the encroaching power of the military-industrial complex, and he named his faction the Corporate Bureacracy Resistance Army, CoBRA for short. Seeing his initial success, the other 9 Watch Commanders followed suit, as did the CoBRA Commander's subordinate Guardsmen; in an attempt to keep apace of his growing power and riches. Within this Secret History, the rest of the universe plays out: Lex Luthor is shown to have fraudulent book-keeping at LexCorp and he goes underground as the founder of Advanced Idea Mechanics, a freelance consortium of researchers and technicians without morals. CoBRA's Interrogator, legal inheritor of the throne of Latveria now that his father and older brother have been killed by Dr. Doom; vows vengeance on Doom and seeks his downfall; but prefers to work toward this goal from behind the scenes. Captain America is discovered as part of CoBRA's ongoing "Soldier: Advanced" program to recreate the formula/process that made Captain America in the first place. HammerHead unit #137 discovers his iceberg floating off the shore of Greenland, and they defrost him. Much to their dismay, Cap awakens thinking the Nazis won the war and he goes berserck, killing all 58 staffers at Ice Station Echo before the Joes arrive to explain to him the facts of the last 60 years. Galactus attempted to consume Krypton; but it was destroyed inadvertantly by a combination of his feeding energies and Jor-El's improvised weaponry to fend him off. This combination of energies is what warped common earth elements into Kryptonite, deadly to all in its presence if only over time. It even pains Galactus to be near it. Captain Cold is a former Snow Serpent that killed the CoBRA TechnoVipers reverse-engineering a confiscated pistol that once belonged to Mr. Freeze. Cold killed them for it and went off on his own to make bundles of cash. I got lots more of this stuff, but this is what coms to mind at the exact moment.
