  1. I do that all the time, and what exactly is the difference between a fan and a collector?

Am I a collector because I army build? But still i have tapes filled with the cartoon that I actually watch all the time, shelves filled with the comic books that I read all the time, and tables and shelves covered with dioramas that I play with all the time.

    So because I have 5 - 98 Cobra troopers I am a collector and not a fan?

I just have never gotten that distinction.......

How realistic is a cobra diorama where the leaders outnumber the soldiers??? Thats my argument for army building..

  2. I have several different places and ways that I store my joes/toys. First off I have this L-shaped work bench, the top of which I keep a cobra Island display going most the time (although sometimes when im bored I put other displays on it) then beneath the top of the work bench table are 4 huge shelves........ here i store all my Joe/Cobra Vehicles. Anything Gi Joe or cobra that is not currently being displayed gets a spot on the shelf underneath cobra island.......

Then I also bought about 100 of these AWESOME plastic bubbles (kinda like scaled down star cases perfectly sized to fit joe figures)... these cases have a peg hole on the top, so I have a huge display on my wall where I hang one case for every figure that was released from 1982-1985, This is where I keep all my glory years figures... I even keep an empty case there for figures I dont have, to motivate myself to complete that collection.

Then I store all my "extra figures" figures that arent glory years figs, or on display, All in ziploc snack size bags, and then in shoe boxes sorted by year.

then those boxes go inside a big fat rubbermaid container to protect from a possible basement flood that has already happened once. Fortunately the only thing I lost in that flood was a set of 87 topps baseball cards... could have been SO much worse.

Oh, and all my Joe Vs. Cobra figs, I store at the bottom of my trash can and dump leftover refried beans on them daily. :)

  3. Im sure glad I haven't bought any of these new Joe Vs. Cobras... I've seen them a few different places now, and well... They look like crap. :)

And from the sounds of these reviews, they are crap.

Broken O-rings out of package, Feet falling off right out of the package... Hands falling off.......

You guys can keep spending 8 bucks on a two pack of dismembered figures that you only want one of all you want.

I just went to my local comic shop and scored an 86 viper in fairly good condition, with a pristine looking cobra symbol for 7.99 + tax.

    Far better deal IMO. :)

  4. I dont think the paint scheme on that cycle looks any worse than a lot of dreadnock stuff that came out in the 80s... in fact, that cycle may well end up being a dreadnock cycle in my world... I Imagine a pair of those would look sort of cool with zandar and zarana on them... again, assuming that ugly side car with that ridiculous cannon comes off.

Ive said it five times before and I will say it five times more... everything that comes out now with have a bit of "ridiculousness" to it because Gi Joe has gone soft....... Got a pot belly so to speak. .... Sigh..

  5. I found an alley viper repaint last weekend. The red and black one that is.

It was sweet. What wave is that a part of?

I actually didnt think I would like that paint scheme that much but it does look good with some crimson guards.

Still prefer the blue and grey one from 1.5 better.

Ugh.. I feel sick... Phanstar is not healthy.

  6. Yeah Im sure he will get in there in time, and I agree... he is the original water joe :) and an awesome one at that.

My reference to the Hama interview was just the pressure that hasbro put on him to write about "certain" joes to help boost figure sales. Im sure there is at least a slight similiar pressure on Devils Due.

  7. On another note.. Can we post a petition to get Hasbro to STOP RELEASING BIG BEN! Actually lets take that petition one step further and beg that they DESTROY THE MOLD so that a Big Ben figure can never be made again.

How many Big Bens do you guys have already? I think I have 4 different Big Bens, and like 8 or 9 total......... DOH! I hated that figure the first time too :)

  8. Hama *WAS* GI Joe. Hasbro may have made the toys, but Hama made them the characters we love. The filecards from 2000-now are AWFUL. (For the record, I think the TRU 97 & 98 cards were very well done for not being done by Hama. At least the fans who wrote THOSE knew what they were doing)

Ok now I agree with you Doc Evil... Those filecards we have been seeing on the Joe Vs Cobra and even a bit before that, taste worse than dog food.

Of course I think they portray the figures quite well. Crappy filecards, crappy figures. Its a match made in heaven. :)

  9. I think Torpedo is a Warrant Office too. He's one bad ass that the DD comics never portrays. They don't know sh*t about Joes guys.

Have you ever read the interview with Larry Hama on yojoe.com? Dont you think its highly likely there is a reason Devils Due is using Wet Suit right now and not Torpedo? Perhaps hasbro played a hand in that. The uniform wet suit is wearing would definately support that theory. :)

  10. So Chief Warrant Officers like Flint and Wild Bill are going to take orders from a mere SERGEANT.

    I dont freakin' THINK so.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, as I've never served in the military, but Im pretty sure that OFFICERS don't take orders from ENLISTED PERSONEL.

Actually its quite possible. Like the example I made before, I work for a city government and am a grade 113, and there is a lady in my office that is a 113, but she tells my boss, AND his boss what to do, and THEY LISTEN. They are 116 and 119!!! So Just goes to show you what earning peoples respect can do. If you prove you have the stuff.

Now I understand the city government is no fair comparison to the military, But lets not forget there is NOTHING conventional about the GI JOE team. They are a highly specialized, top secret, mission group. And as we have seen before they are not required to follow "conventional" rules at all. I think it is VERY possible that a man that had been in the force ALMOST since its inception, and had proven himself in combat not only to be a force to be reckoned with but also an excellent leader, could earn the respect of his team mates. Especially if "Flint" and "Wild Bill" knew that if he wanted to be higher rank than them, all he would have to do is say 'yes'

    Very possible.

    Phanstar.

  11. I dont have multiples of a lot, but what I do have is pretty cool I guess :)

    I've got :

    2 Hiss tanks (original)

    2 Hiss III tanks

    2 Rattlers (original)

    2 Fang Choppers

2 MOW subs (I just bought these for the extra Lampreys figures for my Hydrofoil)

and Well that wraps up my duplicate vehicles I guess.

  12. who, samus? nah, we love samus. and we wouldn't go jeopardizing our friendship with her and risk losing a cool [and female] member of the joe board, right, fellas?... uh, right?

That depends, How old is she, and is She Hot? :) J/J Nah Seriously I dont want to make her feel uncomfortable by analyzing her femininity too much.... That is unless she likes that. :) HOWWWWWWWWL!

Still tho, On a more generic note, How many of you here have met girls that like Video Games a lot??? Everytime I meet a woman that likes video games, im just like Geeze, your bf/Hubby is the luckiest man in the world. :)

  13. Ok Now I see it... That duke looks great!! The only thing I would change is his helmet. That helmet sucks... Why cant he have an army helmet?

here is how I would explain duke and his "authority" if I were on the job of making filecards:

From Hawk's Files: "Duke is a born soldier. Even the top brass has taken note of his great fighting and leadership skills. There has been many times they have sent to me, asking why we cant promote him to an officer position, as he is clearly worthy. Duke won't have it. He is a soldier inside and out, and being in the field is what makes his blood flow. Still don't think for a minute that his rank changes things when it comes to his fellow Joes. They have seen his stuff first hand, and revere him with the utmost respect. No Joe ever questions an order from Duke, officers and infantry alike."
