I'm looking forward to Tuesday.....I liked ROC a lot more than I thought I would. (Granted, the movie was not perfect but I liked enough to be satisfied with what we got, it was fun.) Plus, we also get Resolute on Tuesday......I know I'm gonna end up buying a couple more movie figures too. Anyone else excited for Tuesday. Its kinda lame that we aren't getting some cool exclusive dvd cases or anything.

2009 G.I. Joe Con: The Collector's Club Panel
RobbieDigital replied to Outsiders's topic in G.I. Joe
I am all about that Big Lob figure........he's quite possibly one of the worst Joes ever (one of those "so bad they are great" things) but its still a shame we never really saw him in figure form until now. "The goal line is in sight" @loll@ I've been on the fence for a while now about the GI Joe club.......they have me now......could we maybe get a Pythona next year???? The fact they are destroying molds is sad in a way....but I mean I guess its what they have to do. It could drive up some figures value in the long run. -
G.I.Joe Rise Of Cobra Discussion Thread (Spoilers)
RobbieDigital replied to JayC's topic in G.I. Joe
You know....my imagination was going wild when I was thinking of the Pit and how big it is. In my mind there was a bunch of Joes running around that thing. Supposedly, in the rec room scene Bazooka's jersey is hanging on the wall....and there is dog bowls for Timber. I saw it twice and forgot to look both times. You just know Shipwreck is somewhere on the Flagg at the end........The second could start with a ocean break-out of Destro and CC......Cobra Morays attacking the Flagg. Shipwreck beating up Eels......I think you get my drift. I'm surprised at how many people liked Zartan.......I mean he looked the least like the cartoon/comic version....and people loved him. (biggest complaint before the movie came out, was the look of the characters) Maybe we can get some Dreaknoks in the second.....giving Zartan crap for being away from the swamp in a cushy job for so long without cutting them in on it. -
Why all the hate on Channing Tatum as Duke?
RobbieDigital replied to Weaponmaster's topic in G.I. Joe
Ahhh.....you're right about the dress uniform. I didn't even think about that. Still its a movie......I mean that's like number 311 on the "No way that would happen in real life" scale for this movie. -
What is up with that city-strike Scarlett???
-
I totally agree with that......she needs to be bad at the start of the next film.......its easy to do. Just have her playing possum since the end of the first movie. Releases CC and Destro........problem solved. If you look at the "Rapid Rollers" or whatever they call those things........the CC one has the movie head on what looks like the cartoon body/uniform.......it doesn't look as bad. Give him some regal/military looking clothing and I'm fully there for movie CC. The only problem with this is what are they going to do with HD, Scarlett, Snake Eyes, Duke, Ripcord, and Breaker? There is only so much screen time..........they are going to add to both sides.....so you gotta figure there has to be room for more Cobra's as well. Maybe, 2 new Joes to the sequel.........I can see Shipwreck.......but Flint is too much like Hawk. (looks wise) Beachhead is the only other one I can see them maybe doing........or Gung-Ho (with a resolute type look) but they still show him at one point with the globe and anchor tattoo. I'm a Lady Jaye guy........but I've got a feeling this is all Scarlett's show....when it comes to the movie. Oh, Storm Shadow better come back.......I know people are already saying he should be dead and all.....but he was one of the cooler villians in this thing. I wanted more Storm Shadow.......its movies/comics.........no one is dead forever. He could've easily been picked up by one of those subs.......... I agree with what most of you guys have said.............with one exception. The Snake-Eyes/Scarlett thing.....I'm kinda sick of seeing it. I was glad that there was nothing going on between them. Anybody else want a Sgt. Slaughter cameo??? Him yelling at Joes in the background somewhere...... They can just make Flint black @firedevil@ As for using more characters, they can use them the same way the X-Men movies did it. Cameos. I mean check out Resolute. That would be the BEST example. I mean we got to see Doc, Dial-Tone, Gung-Ho, Roadblock, Beach Head, Stalker, Firefly, Tunnel Rat and Zartan get some scenes. Roadblock, Stalker, Flint, Wild Bill, Cover Girl, Shipwreck, Gung-Ho and Ripcord all got lines. And we also got to see Spirit, Airborne and Lady Jaye. The only two siginificant flaws were WAAAAAYYYYY to much friggin Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow and not enough real vehicles. The X-men movies did it half- assed........some characters were done well. While others were lame.....I'd rather only get 2 more Joe members and have a decent back story on them.....than getting a bunch of guys we only see in the background for like 2 scenes. That's basically what happened in TF2. More isn't always necessarily a good thing.........

Why all the hate on Channing Tatum as Duke?
RobbieDigital replied to Weaponmaster's topic in G.I. Joe
If you pleased you, that's the important thing. I wasn't impressed but i don't think i'm sending him a lot of hate. A lot of the problems with his character are the writers and director's fault, not his. But I didn't seem to notice any real emotions from him. He seemed very flat and stale. Even when he looked at "Anna" I didn't buy the hurt. There were two big reasons that I didn't like Channing Tatum as Duke, and I say this as a guy that's not really a Duke fan to begin with: 1. He did not portray the kind of charisma that Duke should have. He didn't come across as a guy that most people would follow into battle without hesitation. He didn't seem at all "leader-like" even in the scenes where he -was- leading (the flashbacks and the opening convoy). His voice and diction was weak (though I didn't get the "thuggish" angle that some folks are talking about...he just seemed to be mumbling to me). 2. He just couldn't "sell" the action sequences. Even the moments that were supposed to be tense and dramatic, he just...didn't have any sense of urgency to him. Maybe it's the director's fault, maybe he's just not that good an actor for action roles, but he just didn't work out for me. I wasn't expecting a lot from Duke, honestly. I think Tatum -looked- the part well enough (even if he didn't have pale blonde hair), though the whole "goatee in dress uniform" bit was kind of annoying...I guess 6 years in the figure they've relaxed the uniform standards some. I guess the bottom line is that as a former military man, Channing Tatum did not convincingly portray the kind of military man he was portraying on screen. If he'd been playing a green recruit, I think he would've been decent, but playing a seasoned special operations commander? Not so much. As crazy as it is to say, Marlon Wayans gave a more convincing performance as far as being a "military man" went. I can't believe so many people are upset about the goatee.......most special ops teams have relaxed grooming standards. My brother is in the Marines and was on one of the destroyers that the Seals were on when they rescued that Captain from the Somali pirates a while back......he said all the Seals had full beards and grown out hair. (besides being diesel strong, and pretty much did whatever they wanted). So its really not that big a deal........There are even parts of South Florida where Coasties are encouraged to grow out their hair and not have any type of Coast Guard decals on their cars. So its all over the military........even underway on my cutter, it was tradition for the Chiefs to grow out beards. Its not that big a deal....... For some reason Channing Tatum has gotten the urban-white boy stigma......but I've read a couple articles on him in the past month in different magazines.......he's totally not that. The guy grew up on a farm in the sticks of Alabama........he's as country as you can get. I didn't think he was that bad as Duke.....I mean Duke is a pretty vanilla character when you think about it........boy-scout type. You know how He-man is the most un-interesting looking MOTU character(boring)......and all the other characters look pretty out of control. Thats how I always viewed Duke......like the He-man of GI Joe. -
G.I.Joe Rise Of Cobra Discussion Thread (Spoilers)
RobbieDigital replied to JayC's topic in G.I. Joe
You know for all my bitching and griping in the past.......I really liked it. The cartoon was pretty ridiculous.......lets get that out in the open first. I've been watching episodes this past week to get excited for the movie and I haven't really watched these in like 4 years.......CC actually kidnaps some scientists in one episode that has this gizmo that controls animals and Cobra has control for a little while.......they actually show a bunch of dogs on the steps of the capitol building....."Oh No, DOGS!" All and all I think its a solid first effort...........did the movie have flaws, yes.......but no movie is perfect. Paris chase was fun and cool..........accelerator suits and all. The previews relied on this scene way too much. Scarlett and her Crossbow............heads beware. Snake-Eyes was great.......but to be honest; I wanted to see more of Storm Shadow......I really liked the way he was portrayed......I wanted to see more of him and I hope we do in the sequel. The Pit was awesome........the elevator scene brought a smile to my face.......I felt like I was 10 again. (Isn't that the point of these movies, and collecting toys on a whole, when did we get so serious) All and all I felt like it was a 80's style adventure/action movie; something we've been missing for a while in the theatre. With just the right amount of cheesiness........ #US1# My nerd rant.......... Baroness being "good" or whatever she is........I'm pretty sure they'll flip her in the next one, but I though it was a waste of a perfectly good villain in the end. Dennis Quaid......I'm not a big fan of his to begin with......just didn't get the great leader vibe from him (Where's Ed Harris when you need him) CC and Destro.........Meh, I'll wait until the sequel before I start bitching really hard......we haven't really seen much so far. Still not liking the Joes being international.......but what can you do. It was pretty much like the cartoon come to life.........Protecting a convoy in the beginning with something important and dangerous, Cobra attacks tries to steal object, Joe's fight Cobra, Cobra gets away, Cobra has some grand plan, they attack somewhere, Joe's fight them off, Joe's trying to figure out what Cobra is up to. Yo Joe #US1# -
I'm probably gonna see it Friday afternoon.......I'm curious to see how its going to do as well. Seeing as it has a lot of bad buzz......even though there are good reviews coming out....most of the mainstream news is still bashing it somewhat. Some people I work with want to see it....others say it looks stupid. I saw this over at USATODAY.com about a week ago......I think its an unfair personal opinion of an article but........it is USATODAY.....and a lot of people read that. http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/news/2...omplaints_N.htm I'm thinking its going to open strong.......with about 45 million. Number 1, But its probably gonna fall hard next weekend. Unless it gets strong word of mouth.....which could help it. Its funny cause today I was doing some training with Naval Sea Cadets on my boat (I'm a Coastie, they come for 2 weeks in the summer to drill and learn stuff) and one of the kids was 15 and the other was 14. They were talking about "Rambo" and how awesome it was.....the 4th one that came out a couple years ago. I told him he needed to watch Rambo 3 (he was talking about Marines in Afghanistan, and Rambo 3 takes place in Afghanistan) We were just talking about movies and then the one said "GI Joe looks cool......I want to see that; and the other kid said "I think it looks stupid" (Keep in mind these are kids that LOVE the military and can't wait to enlist) Then they were talking about the Rambo cartoon that was stupid....(I couldn't believe they actually knew about the cartoon, but the one said that its on tv every once and a while) Then the one cadet totally crapped on the GI Joe cartoon.....saying it was stupid. These kids had no idea that I have a huge GI Joe collection at home....and was watching "The Revenge of Cobra" yesterday to get hyped for the movie coming out Friday. I jokingly said "Hey, thats what I grew up with" It did hurt a little bit though......... @l@ Sorry to go off topic but I thought it was pretty funny and somewhat relevant to the topic. But I do hope it does well enough to get a sequel......cause then maybe they can let stuff fly.

Exactly, these exclusives are meant for the fans.........people that know what's going on and its usually a reason to give fans of lines what they want....cutting out the middle man in a way. I still would have grabbed a PDD if he was released in stores just cause of the nostalgia factor........I could never have a RAH one but I easily got one 2 years ago. I don't think they made any more because it was a movie item. Parents going to HTS aren't going to care if its an exclusive or not......or kids. As a RAH/25th/Modern fan I'm only picking up select movie figures.......I'm no way a completist when it comes to movie stuff. I made up my mind on that a while ago. I just went to HTS just to see if I was right while I was typing this........it seems they upped production....or no one bought this thing at Comic-Con.....I put 3500 in my cart before it told me they were sold out. I think they only had like a 1000 CC's at this time last year......but I'm sure he sold a lot better than this set did. I think its just a crappy exclusive.......
-
Because its a crappy exclusive..........I can see why people would want it, but I really had no want for it whatsoever once I saw pics of it. They are just ugly figures as well........I think the fact that its from the movie may have something to do with it. That and people still really don't know to much about the movie yet. There could be a scene in the movie explaining the Destro family and heritage......that could make the appeal of this set go up after the movie is released. But for me its just a crappy figure set......that really wouldn't fit it well with my collection. I'm not surprised that its still there.........and the Baroness. If you're dealing primarily with 3 3/4 in. collectors, why make a 12 in. exclusive???? #WTF#

I really wish we would've gotten the glasses that they did with Star Trek.......I'll pass on these.

Anyone Else Get theirGI Joe Complete Collector's Set DVDs?
RobbieDigital replied to StrykerX2K's topic in G.I. Joe
What exactly is in that book? Is it artwork, or just info on the cartoon like episode summary's? -
I went on a toy run the other day hoping to find some of the more obscure non-movie/movie figures.....I went to 2 Wal-marts, 3 Targets, and a TRU. I have to say the stuff was pretty much picked through.......I mean there wasn't empty pegs or anything but you can tell the stuff is moving pretty well. The TRU by me had almost nothing but Breaker's, BBQ's, and Firefly's. I somehow snagged the last Paris Pursuit Snake-Eyes at Wal-mart though.......that trench coat is too cool. on a side note........can't say the same for those "Terminator Salvation" figures.....those things are EVERYWHERE!!!
-
Those covers are awesome VH........I was a history major in college......WWII was and still is by far my favorite time period. I agree.......that's what upset me the most about the movie when I first started to see pictures of the Joes.........no imagination whatsoever from the design staff.....or Sommers. I hate the fact that they say they would look like the village people, most of those uniforms were based off uniform designs of one form or another. They have a million cool designs right in front of them.....and they use "The Matrix" playbook for making movies. That's something that will be missing from this movie........... I just hope its cooler than "Delta Force" my mom can tell you that I almost broke the VHS tape we had of it when I was little.........Chuck Norris, AWE Strikers and dirt bikes with missile's on them......80's GREATNESS........I still haven't seen ROC, but I'm thinking 80's Delta Force could take the 09' movie Joes.
-
Its hard to do these type of arguments when everyone hasn't seen the film......I pretty much read everything.....I don't care about spoilers or anything, it doesn't ruin the experience for me at all. I've picked up the movie novelization, and some of the early reviews that have spoilers in them.........most of the backstory's for the Joes have been COMPLETELY changed.......I'm talking nationalities and origins and even defining characteristics of these characters........thats really my only beef with this movie anymore......is that stuff. What if Batman was suddenly in Los Angeles (because people don't believe in made up cities).....or London (because all the heroes are in Europe).......and he dated Catwoman at one time who was the Joker's sister.......and Robin was black(not a big deal about Ripcord but I'm just saying)....and Nightwing was Chinese and Alfred was somehow Bruce's adoptive Uncle........I mean do I have to go any further.......stuff is just changed to be changed with no real reason.......(Other than the "It wouldn't look right on film" crap that we always hear) The commercials are starting to trick me though..........the Kid Rock "American Badass" commercial came on the other night and I was excited then I remembered what I've read about it and kinda came back down to earth.......even the one with Baroness saying "Real American Heroes" almost got me. I bet those are only being shown in the states. Plus, I agree with VH.......whatever is on the screen Aug. 7th will never come even close to what we have in our imaginations of what a live-action GI Joe should be. Or live up to it........
-
Well a lot of critics called TF2 one of the worst movies ever made.......so the fact that its testing higher doesn't surprise me. The fact that it seems to be a good action movie has me more interested.....most of the early reviews are from guys that had the toys growing up but aren't die-hards like most of us. Supposedly the action is like the cartoon come to life in some respects. A lot of people are saying that its a big, sometimes cheesy (but a good cheesy, if that makes sense) fun action movie, where you can actually tell who's who. Where the Joes are good and they are trying to stop the bad guys (Cobra). Although the couple reviews both said Channing Tatum (Duke) just can't fill the shoes of head guy, and is in over his head. (Cardboard, is what I think one reviewer called his performance) I'm getting more excited for it the more I see......I'm starting to just accept this as another alternate version of GI Joe......I'm gonna shut my mind off and have my popcorn and have fun. Now the actually backstorys of some of the characters is where I'm still gonna be a fanboy about......some of the stuff about the Joes and Cobras just had me shaking my head????? Thats the stuff I can see all of us ranting about the day the movie comes out. Some of the stuff is pretty ridiculous in the Joe movie-verse.
-
I think its really cool that they are doing that.......hopefully every character has their cartoon skin.....I was gonna get the game anyway......cause its a GI Joe video game........I'll get some fun out of it. I was looking at it over at EBgames....and it kinda reminds me of Contra a little bit....from the screen shots I saw and the trailers......it may be more in depth but thats fine by me.......I love my Call of Duty as much as the next guy..........but this still looks fun.......just plain fun. Its at a 49.99 price point too.
-
I remember seeing them at Target too......that's where I think I got mine......I have that tape at home somewhere. (The habit of never throwing stuff out.....) I'm thinking it was the Dusty/Cobra CLAWS pack......at least thats what is coming to my mind first???

Anyone Else Get theirGI Joe Complete Collector's Set DVDs?
RobbieDigital replied to StrykerX2K's topic in G.I. Joe
You know.....I've been fighting the urge to buy this thing for a while now. I have the other 4 Rhino sets from like 2003-04.....I'm still a lot upset that they never finished the series........I just can't see spending that right now(essentially re-buying the cartoons all over again, minus 22 the last 22 eps or something like that).....with the Cobra Island sets and all the movie stuff that just came out.....its kind of frustrating. I was just going to wait to get the last set they release in stores to complete my series. (which will look ugly as hell on my DvD shelf, thanks again Rhino) @hmmm@ Anyone got some hand's on pics of the case though???? To make me want to throw 150 bucks at Shout......I've been to the website and have seen the animated shots but I want some real pics. -
What was bigger GIJOE, He-Man, or Transformers
RobbieDigital replied to Superpowers1980's topic in G.I. Joe
You gotta remember that MOTU grossed so much in the 80's it had its own Live-Action movie in 87'.....thats saying something for a toy line at that time.(not the greatest movie but still) Macy's Day parade floats, a touring musical live show,(The Power Tour) and other stuff. (She-Ra) It had to be raking in the money, I'm still gonna go with MOTU overall.......GI Joe and Transformers had more of a life span and probably overtime made more but I think MOTU would get the prize for biggest IT line of the 80's. -
I like JT......I'm not afraid to say it.......but not as GL. Cooper seems to be the best fit for this......he's been great in everything I've seen him in. I can see him in a flight suit, I try to picture the GL mask on each of them.....and it just fits with Cooper. I'm not gonna say anything about JT playing him cause NO ONE believed in Ledger when that was announced.........JT has been good in the movies I've seen him in. The guy can act......but to carry GL I don't know.
