  1. I keep'em as is, no reusing parts at all. I should take a pic of the ones I still have, alot of them get bought by other board members. I've scrolled through many of the figures you create on your site, but just wondered if you had any group shots of how you display them. Isn't it hard to part with these after you customize them? I guess it's no different than any artist who creates something and then sells it. I've gotten so lazy on the customizing thing for myself, I may have to commission you for some? sometimes. making them on commission made it easier, but sometimes it is hard to part with them. I just made a trade for a couple of WM playsets in exchange for my Mangler custom and I have to say it is kind of disappointing, but the reality is I can always make it again, whereas I can't find those damn playsets for the life of me.

  3. HOTWIRE One of those characters that is so easy to make that it would be a shame not to. ALEXANDER MCCULLEN One of those characters not so easy to make, but figured what was the point of having a Mistress Armada custom with an Alexander McCullen custom as well. SKYDIVE At some point I may finish the entire Sky Patrol, but for the time being Skydive was on the top of my list of figures to do.

  5. the shame of our hobby is that a lot of collectors are losers. their life revolves around toys. not work, not career success, not relationships. toys. and because of that, they generally don't have high educations, don't have successful careers, and don't have intimate relationships. the repercussion is that they are broke, miserable losers who work #$## jobs, don't have much money, but instead of bettering themselves remain focused on toys that they really can't afford. it is a vicious cycle, they work crap jobs because their time is focused on toys and because of that they never make more money to be able to afford new toys. so, when a new toy comes out that hey want, instead of buying it and using the minimal amount of money they already have, they take a toy they no longer want (these loser collectors are driven by a desire to get new toys and don't generally enjoy their collections and get bored with them. it is the act of collecting that drives them), and swap it for what they now want. it never has anything to do with not wanting to buy a figure set for just one figure, it alwats has just to do with the fact that they are broke losers who can't afford their hobby but don't have the intelligence and desire to better themselves so they can. sad but true.
  6. Hey, if you think its a stretch or not, its your choice. I'm okay with it as I see it, because I can see a play-on-words at work here. There's worse code-names out there. it certainly is a play on words, just not a play on words relevant to being a sniper. I'm not denying it references weaponry, but it would be like naming Dial-Tone "Plastic Case" since radios are made of plastic.
  7. I disagree because that still doesn't have any direct relevance to the act of being a sniper. if he was a gunsmith, yes, but that is far too general and could apply to anyone with a gun and doesn't identify anything about being a sniper. Well, there's plenty of GIJOE characters with general code names, and quite a few are play-on-words. Duke, Flint, Hawk, even Beachead etc are pretty generic, considering who the characters are. Heck, Beachhead is a Ranger and they don't even conduct beachhead assaults anymore--that's a Marine or SEAL specialty. It suggests about as much as what Rangers do as Barrel Roll does for a sniper. but Beach Head is still pretty relevant to the history of the Rangers, so it is a historical name. the others you mention, like Duke, Hawk and Flint, their "specialties" are their rank, so that again is a completely different scenario, not o mention the mere exceptions to the rule. but when you look at the majority of characters, their names are directly related to their specialties, or completely arbitrary and do not note any other type of specialty. Barrel Roll doesn't fit into any of those categories because his name reflects a specific act that has nothing to do with his personality, image or specialty, and the gunsmith is just a huge stretch to try and connect the dots where there is no picture. Hasbro clearly named him in connection to being the glider pilot but then made him a sniper. that is just poor execution, and I usually defend Hasbro on most things.

  9. I agree about Bombstrike, she's irrelevant if not for the family angle of the story, and she is the vital element of it. Cool Breeze is awesome, I'm gonna make one as well one day.
  10. BLACK OUT Black Out is the pinnacle of new sculpt characters, one that not only fit an absent role in the Cobra ranks but could have easily been a RAH character with his intriguing bio. BARREL ROLL If Black Out is the pinnacle of new sculpt characters, Barrel Roll is maybe one of the worst. why? one of the most basic tenets of Joe characters is that their names reflect their specialty. Barrel Roll is a sniper. let me repeat. Barrel Roll is a sniper. what the f#@k does the name Barrel Roll have to do with being a sniper? I know what you are going to say, but he's a high altitude sniper. well, what the f#@k is a high altitude sniper? not to mention, if that's the case, his name has to reflect the sniper aspect as well. Barrel Roll is not only a pilot's name, but his figure looks like a pilot and nothing like a sniper. well done, Hasbro. jackasses. he's only saved by the family conflict in his bio, and even then that is only made interesting by the third family member, as just two brothers on opposite sides would have been pretty boring. had to rewrite his bio to make him primarily a pilot and make sense of his name. BOMBSTRIKE Two parties creates conflict, but three creates real drama. the inclusion of Bombstrike into the Black Out/Barrel Roll conflict saves the Barrel Roll character and makes the entire sub plot one of the cooler side elements of the G.I. Joe story. It also separates her from being more than just another female figure. DEVIL'S DUE GREENSHIRT I was always a fan of the DD Greenshirt design. Although I am not a fan of the idea of a generic infantry unit for G.I. Joe, I do like the idea of the training unit being the main infantry support where potential members earn their way onto the team. SGT. HACKER Poor Sgt. Hacker, he's probably the most irrelevant G.I. Joe ever made. not only would we have all preferred him to be Mainframe when he came out, Hasbro created an entirely new computer character the very next year with Hard Drive, completely abandoning the character. well, I like him. of course, in typical new sculpt era creation, his bio sucks and needed a slight work over. FIREWALL the only people worse at creating characters during the new sculpt era than Hasbro was Devil's Due. while I like the idea of a young kid being skilled enough to be part of the Joes, I don't think the team would ever recruit a kid that would sabotage her classmates grades and ruin her future just because she didn't like her, and hack into government computer systems. call me old fashion, but to be a Joe means not only being dedicated and skilled, but also having impeccable integrity. Devil's Due's Firewall is completely lacking in integrity. To make her work, she needed a complete bio overhaul. not to mention the name Firewall inherently refers to someone who specializes in computer security, not hacking. well done, Devil's Due, way to keep up with the basic aspects of naming characters, it's very difficult. MANGLER Mangler is an interesting character to make because his background is completely wide open so I could make it up myself while fitting it into the parameters of what we do know of the character from his brief appearance. but what's the use of making a dead character, right? well, who says he has to be dead, the Joes never recovered his body and just left it there. he could very well be alive and still not contradict the events of his only appearance. DR. KNOX The fun of this character was coming up with the bio. SHADOW STRIKE Based on the ninja design in the Hasbro sketchbook, more than likely it was probably going to be just another Storm Shadow, but the last thing I need is another Storm Shadow. ROC JINX Had the parts so why not. cut away the hair from the front of Helix's face and draped it down the sides to differentiate the two figures.
  11. arguably the greatest fan made character of all-time! how come with never say a 25th version?
  12. Despite what many fans think, RAH actually lasted long past 1987, and in that time many new characters were released. Here is a quick stroll down 1993's memory lane. BLAST-OFF Mega Marines were a pretty cool sub-group with well done molds, and Blast-Off has always been a favorite of mine. Sure, he doesn't look much like a flamethrower, and didn't even come with a flamethrower, but beggars can't be choosers. I went with a flat color scheme instead of attempting the marbled plastic swirl technique Hasbro went with on the original. MIRAGE Mirage may have been the bane of many collectors existence during the new sculpt era with how many times he was released, but the sculpt is really cool and deserved it. Like Blast-Off, I didn't particularly care about the marbled paint look and went with a flat color. For the torso I broke up the red with two different shades. LONG ARM Unlike the Mega Marines, the original Long Arm isn't that good looking of a figure. But that is actually part of its charm, and deep down there was a concept that could actually translate pretty well to a nice, bulky and good looking 25th style figure. Maybe I pulled it off, maybe not.
  13. WIDE SCOPE Wide Scope may have been intended to be Shockwave at some point, but there is enough design differences to warrant an update for him into my 25th collection. COLD FRONT A custom I've been wanting to make going all the way back to the new sculpt era but only now got around to doing. MAJOR STORM My main motivation for this figure was to just use up one of the many Cobra Commander figures I have. Well, that and I'd put a lot of money on Hasbro never making him so it's a character worth doing. BULLET-PROOF The always fun challenge of trying to make a good custom out of a bad figure.
  14. Sgt. Stone and Lt Stone are two different characters, so there is no comparative "should have been." besides that, the eye patch doesn't work because the string needs to wrap around the side of his head to stay on, not go to the top of his head.
  15. REACTIVE ARMOR BREAKER Collector OCD demanded that I have this figure to complete my reactive armor team, so what Hasbro will not give, I'll make!
  16. why would you be obligated to worry about whether they are a sponsor or not?
  17. If you don't like Tiger Force, or care for ridiculous foreign repaints, these won't change your mind, but I love Tiger Force in all it's garish glory, and can't get enough of the absurd foreign G.I. Joe repaints, so international Tiger Force repaints are all win in my book. TIGER FORCE OUTBACK TIGER FORCE HIT & RUN TIGER FORCE SHIPWRECK
  18. REACTIVE ARMOR FLINT Flint is a no-brainer to customize in Reactive Armor, but what I wanted to do was make him fit in with the ROC aesthetics while maintaining elements of his original design. His black shirt already matches, and giving him classic green and brown camo pants allows the figure to teeter the line between uniformity with the Reactive Armor look while harkening back to his classic colors. add his classic webbing and voila. REACTIVE ARMOR LADY JAYE Lady Jaye was a little trickier than Flint. putting her in just a Reactive Armor suit wouldn't capture any classic aspects of her uniform. Painting the Reactive Armor wouldn't either, since to me the Reactive Armor has to maintain at least a portion of its black to maintain any sort of uniformity with the other. So, I switched out Lady Jaye legs for the uniform. Painting the legs to match classic Lady Jaye is irrelevant since we already have the classic Lady Jaye design with them, and again it wouldn't fit in with the ROC look. so I went the ROC Shipwreck route, which creates the precedent for a ROC look that is followed fits in with the line, and gave her a ROC camo pattern for the pants with Reactive Armor top. Give her her classic/25th Lady Jaye accessories in black and a Lady Jaye that captures the look of ROC while maintaining her classic character elements.
  19. what new info are you getting by makng a custom? not to mention, bearded Lowlight didn't wear goggles, so it isn't as if that is a no-brainer figure to make from those parts.

    Jurassic FAiL!

business sense...fail. that's the point, use existing molds, incur only production costs, and add a product to the market that there may be a demand for. without a movie to leverage the toys, there is no reason to produce new molds and it would be a waste. why am i even attempting to explain something so simple as if it would be understood by someone who would actually post such a ridiculous argument. not to mention the fact that this has nothing to do with G.I. Joes so why is it in the Joe forums.
  21. PYTHONA My second attempt at Pythona. Used Ms Marvel as the figure, with a Pilot Scarlett head sanded down and Dr Fate cape from the DC line. a much better version than my previous version. Card art was done by the awesome Benny Broca, I wrote the filecard hoping to capture the same tone as the original Cobra-La filecards. I think I got it. LAW & ORDER My second attempt at Law as well. The major differences are the legs, which made the figure shorter (I felt my first was too tall), and I modded the vest to resemble the original's closer by adding a second pocket on the right side and the grenade to the top, rather than just going with the Gung Ho vest as is. SPARKS I really like Sparks, and the figure was easy enough to make. Designed him to match the con figure from a couple of years ago. MISTRESS ARMADA I was never a big fan of DD's comics, but they did do a good job early on at creating new characters and character designs, Mistress Armada being one of the better ones, so it was time to update her in 25th form. But her uniform tended to change colors depending on how they wanted to shade her, so I am not sure what color her uniform is. I decided to go with the blue and grayish purple. DECIMATOR Made this guy because I have plenty of Cobra Commanders and he can be made easily out of CC completely (save for the head). the back is filled in and sanded and you wouldn't even know the gun holder was sculpted in to it. For the helmet, I built it out of a Sgt. Hacker Spy Troops mask to match the filecard art, not the actual figure's helmet which doesn't have the same details.
  22. TOPSIDE Probably one of the most underrated Joes. Went with the black helmet to match the card art as opposed to all white, which was really just a repercussion of the fact that Hasbro simply didn't paint accessories very often, if at all. CROSS-COUNTRY My second go round wit Cross-Country. the viper boots and vest I used for the original I felt could be improved upon by using a Resolute Trooper vest and Cobra Commander lower legs, which are just perfect.
  23. LIFELINE My second attempt at Lifeline. the first one I did I took the route of how would Hasbro make him in the 25th line with existing parts and minimal modifications. This time I went the full blown complete v.1 replication with removable pistol and flashlight. ZANZIBAR My third go round with Zanzibar. whenever I make another custom of I figure I've done before, I like to try something new. This time I went with removable chest armor sculpted over the 5 pack Zartan armor. Includes removable knife on the armor and pistol.
  24. I've picked up Cobra Commander, Baroness, Ice Viper, masked Stormshadow, PP Snake Eyes, Reactive Armored Duke, Scarlett and Heavy Duty, Desert Duke, and Shipwreck. all are great figures.
