Breathtaking job on both. I want that Castle Greyskull on my shelf!
I have been thinking of doing the same thing to my vintage Star Wars Dagobah and Ewok village play sets. A good paint job makes these sculpts come to life.
I've always said there was great details covered up from the factory paint jobs. these REALLY are amazing toys! Thanks for feedback!

Very very very impressive. I don't think Castle Grayskull or Snake Mountain ever looked that good before in any medium.
Thanks Satam!

New to the forums but been a longtime browser of TNI--love this site! I wanted to share a couple of custom painted vintage Masters of the Universe playsets: Grayskull and Snake Mountain. I absolutely love MOTU and as I was gearing up my anticipation to collect the Origins line, I wanted to revisit Grayskull and Snake Mountain with an updated paint application. I normally don't like the idea of touching a vintage toy, however, I believed there was a killer playset waiting to come alive from behind the subpar and uneven factory paint job given to both sets. After priming and dry-brushing applications using acrylics (standard colors and vibrant neons for SM). The only portion sprayed on is the primer I used as the rest was hand brushed. I only amplified the amazing details that were already there. Grayskull's interior was painted with purples and blues (with stars added) to give off a mystical effect of universal power emanating from the Castle. I was inspired by the colors and themes from the original mini comics. I left the accessories alone as their vibrant, flat colors was a nice contrast that actually made it feel (for me) as though this scene popped directly from the comic pages. For Snake Mountain, the interior paint work was highly influenced by Youtuber "Count Stankus" who gave his custom a Monster Golf /fun-house 'glow' vibe--a great 80s look for a great 80s toy! I took notes off his work because he really nailed the effect. Either way...displayed is my love for ALL things MOTU and my process leading to the final product....hope you enjoy and thank you for letting me share!

Custom Painted Origins Castle Grayskull
in Custom Figures
Posted
A few months ago I posted my custom painted vintage Castle Grayskull and Snake Mountain. Thanks to my brother who acquired an Origins Castle Grayskull for me, I'm back at it again! As much as I loved the out the out-of-box experience with this new castle, I saw where the final paint app did the sculpt no justice. I know there's only so much painting detail that can be applied to an $80 playset but I wanted to see what some enhancements could do. I wanted to take the blacks of the eyes in a little, highlight the interior walls with the same hues of the exterior, add some details and washes to the floor panels and accessories and now I really can't decide which one I like more: The Vintage or Origins =). I love how the Jaw-bridge of the Origins playset is recessed a little more into the castle making the upper jaw jut out and cast a shadow. I threw in some comparison pics (painted vintage and Origins), before and after painted shots as well as in progress pics. Thanks for letting me share!
