  1. Wouldn't be Toy Biz. They don't maintain facilities to hold figures anymore. Probably some idiots at the Return counter letting anything come back.

No, the figs I've found, and the one Canonball found have Marvel Legend price stickers applied over the barcodes. That wasn't something done at the store level.

Still probably someone returning them. It's not that hard to glue a sticker over the barcode. Scammers do that all the time in retail.

  2. The word "cheap" has a negative feeling to it, regardless. They didn't "go cheap", they merely went with the budget they are allowed per Series. "Going cheap" would imply that they are cutting back where they don't have to.

If my lunch budget is strictly $5 per day, I have to work what I can into that $5. If something increases in price, I have to change my lunch accordingly.

So Series 9's budget of X dollars allowed for a certain size BAF and number of accessories to be made. That same X amount of dollars doesn't go as far for Series 14 now.

  3. Shuma Gorath would be a very easy to do BAF. The center section with the eyeball would be one piece and the tentacles could all be the same sculpt, thereby reducing costs.

I suggested somewhere else that they could infact package the tentacles in with a Multiple man or henchman ML and in effect have a BAF with only 2 figures in a wave. Then fill the other figures with another smaller BAF.

  4. I would throw away almost all bases from ML1-8. They serve no purpose to me. So the BAF was a great addition to the line. Being able to get ANY extra characters, regardless of size, is a plus. It helps to create an even larger plastic Marvel Universe. So I wouldn't want to get rid of them any time soon, UNLESS they were to institute a Build-a-Diorama for a wave or two - ie pieces of the Danger Room. Something that could go together instead of 6-8 different bases would be better.

The price is probably going to rise with Hasbro anyway. I read on another board that there is already SKN in TRU's computer that list them at $9.99. That will probably translate to $8.99 at Walmart and Target. The price increase is because of licensing and the increased cost of Hasbro's factories as opposed to the low-ball factories used by TB. We should see less problems with the actual figures because of this though.

Retailers won't accept a price hike of much, especially just so an accessory can be bigger.

You won't see big characters like Fin Fang Foom in Icons because that isn't what the line is for. It's large MLs. It's on shelves just because it is full of recognizable names. And there's plenty of big names for them to keep it going for awhile.

And as for accessories go, there's still characters getting accessories. While Psylocke didn't get her psi blade, Falcon got Redwing, Zemo got his sceptre. While Pyro didn't get flame blasts, Loki got his sword and Goblin got his bag and glider. So while some cuts have been made, it's not across the board. I don't recall anyone complaining that Cyclops didn't have an attachable optic blast.

  5. Regardless of this being a collectors line, it is still being sold to mass market retailers. They need to see the big recognizable names sprinkled in the mix to keep them interested. It's a fact of life for any retail line.

And at least they aren't repeated costumes. They've managed to keep em all comic accurate but still varied.

  6. I didn't think ML would do an entire series on X-men?

Well, I'm sure another 1-3 figure could be added to that list that aren't X-men. Don't forget ML6 and 10, 6 was 5 X plus Movie Pun while 10 was 5 X plus BP and Spidey.
