Alright, well as a fellow college student, I have some thoughts...
I agree with you that some teachers can be very dry... but once i hit the real world, especially with my major, I'm sure a lot of my co-workers and tasks are going to be too, so I learn to just live with it.
I don't mind the lecture way of teaching in ALL cases. Most of my classes so far have been in that format. It depends on how the teacher does it... I like when they stop and ask different people their thoughts or to recap because it keeps me on my toes, as opposed to the Professor who takes a deep breath and never looks up from the start til the end of the class period.
I take much better notes these days... I find when I study a few nights before a test, it's much more helpful to review the notes from the teacher's lectures. In fact, I'd go so far as to say 80% of my textbook purchases are a waste because the teacher barely uses them.
Have you considered online courses? That seems more up your alley?
A personal problem I've experienced is I have only had 3-4 NON-Business courses in my college career!! That means next year, my senior year right before my career, will be filled with all general ed stuff, which seems totally backwards to me. MY advisor is also a Prof I've had for 4 classes, and will probably need to take him 1 or 2 more times, so he schedules me with him and his buddies more then anything.
Another thing is if you want help from a Prof at some point, if they don't recognize you as a class "regular," I wouldn't expect any sympathy.
I can't tell you how many breaks I've gotten from establishing a good relationship with my Professors. Granted, a small school like mine it is much easier to do.
In all fariness, I will tell you my attendance isn't spectacular. I don't miss a lot of classes, but as a commuter sometimes things happen where I don't mean to miss a class and I do.
I even have a class this semester where the Prof doesn't make me go at all, besides to show him my progress once and awhile.
Amazing, sometimes posting about education here can bring the guns blazing at you. Believe me, it's happened to me before.
