  1. We already see a lot that would severely change, if not eradicate, the TNG era. Picard may never have gotten him out of the Nexus. If he did, that still leaves Bill as George Kirk, or a Deadly Years/Holodeck appearance of an old Kirk.
  2. No Borg. Please... Since they are updating everything here, they might try their hand at introducing the Holodeck as well, and somehow showing an old Kirk on it.
  3. Unless it's serious, like the first 90's era Batman one was, it should not be attempted at all.
  4. Nah, there's several options that wouldn't necessarily involve time-travel again. A crossover to the prime universe ala "Through A Mirror Darkly" (albeit, this did involve time travel as well as crossover) He could play some dream version of how George Kirk would be if alive. "The Deadly Years" could be rehashed as part of the script. There could be some kind of Nexus tie-in, with it explained as existing in the grand multiverse. That would easily allow old Kirk and young to meet. There are a variety of ways that may hold water. Nimoy's inclusion could have been better written, in my opinion, but it seemed to fly going by the box office.

Is it still in most IMAX theaters?
  6. There's nothing "mere" about that. It's a great selling point.
  7. Jack Daniels as well. Paramount wants us all to be alcoholics! To me, and I think many, Jack Daniel is so overused as describing whiskey, that it approaches the status of "Google", "Coke", "Fridge" and "Xerox". If they paid for placement, I hope it was less, because there's a chance the name might have been used regardless. "Bud" doesn't have quite the same weight as "beer" does. Not yet, anyhow... 8. Yes, but we don't get to see her. You can hear Barret's voice when Chekov mispronounces "Victor" as "Wictor".
  9. According to dialogue from Chekov, Warp 4 is a difficult goal. TOS had 6 as cruising, with 8 as max.
  10. I'm not sure who you were replying to on this, but I know for myself, race wasn't contributing to my criticism of Perry. As for Pegg, there is also some recognition of him beyond this role, but not nearly to the same extent to an American audience. If you are based in the UK, you have more of a point on this issue, as he is more recognized there, that him as Scotty might be just as distracting. However, this has nothing to do with acting ability. Pegg is no Olivier, but he has miles more range than Perry, and he IS playing a comedic character. That's right, much to Doohans chagrin, Scotty became the comic relief over time, most especially from STIII:TSFS onward. (The low point may be his guest spot in Knight Rider 2000) Unfortunately, Pegg is playing it for laughs as Doohan did in the end, so we'll probably never see Monty at the conn, or as the ladies man again without some comedic element, but Pegg can't be blamed for it. Perry can, because he can't pull off a minor dramatic role. The two really can't be compared in that regard. Speaking of character issues, Nero was rather two-dimensional as well. I don't know if I can fault Eric Bana entirely, since much of his motivation has been resigned to a comic book, but there should have been more there.
  11. I can't say I'd ever phrase it the way you did, but he didn't bring anything to the role at all. Not that it called for much, but he is totally unconvincing as someone who could ever be in a position of such authority. Even the non-speaking Admirals had more believable screen presence. That's not even based on his recognition for comedic roles as I stated above, he's just plain flat here. Anyone, could have done as well. Despite our knowledge of it as a fact, that much screentime for such a mediocre (at best) performance smacks of cronyism.
  12. It's cute as a "baby" Kelvin might be, but you need Mommy first. Too bad Hot Wheels hasn't got the Kelvin coming yet. I'd love a faithful one right now.
  13. His presence, more than any continuity difference, or contemporary product placement, came closest to unsuspending my disbelief during the film. He's just too recognizable, and specifically as a non-dramatic actor. It was like popping Jimmy Kimmel in there.
