  1. This is the crux of MSNBC's existence anymore....to rant about what the OTHER networks are doing. I say leave it to Colbert and John Stewart who are much better at it. Beck's rally would honestly end up being insignificant if it was not for the needless coverage. Honestly there are so many more important things, tragic and inspiring that could be covered instead.
  2. He didn't really apologize for the comment about Obama, just simply amended it to say that he felt him racist, but understood why he would be that because of his background in Liberation Theology. I haven't had a chance to read through every single statement that people have said so far on this topic as I've already heard all the varying arguments from comments on CNN.com, MSNBC.com, and FoxNews.com, but I did want to share something from a 'pastoral' standpoint. Liberation theology is something I studied in undergrad and during my time at seminary at Duke Divinity, and though it is not a universally accepted theology (or even widely known about for that matter) it is still one that harnesses a very basic truth of the gospel. This truth is that Christ came into the world, not so much for individual salvation, but to bring about the Kingdom of God, to change the world completely (as Jesus was very 'political'), and to bring about the salvation of the community of believers called the Body of Christ. There is very little language to describe the individual compared to the amount of language used to describe the community. John Wesley, founder of the Methodist movement, said, "...there is no holiness, but social holiness," back during the formation of our nation. He was describing the essence of Christ that was concerned for the oppressed and the poor, the widow and the orphan. Jesus said in his ministries, "Blessed are the poor...Blessed are you who are hungry now...But woe to you who are rich...Woe to you who are full now," and "I came to bring good news to the poor." It's from these statements and the recognition that there can not be release to the captives of the oppressed without social justice and change that formed the liberation theology movement in Central America as well as propelling millions of Christians to become part of mission trips to other countries and outreach projects in their own country. Why share all of this? Well, Beck's speech very much centered on God and the nation's need to turn back to God (though I personally would use the phrase "Turn to God" because we never were focused on him much in the first place). I agree with him on that, but he, through his interview on Fox News Sunday, totally through out everything in the above paragraph saying that it was against the Gospel which focused on the individual rather than the community. In his defense, he is Mormon which is, in my opinion, not truly Christian, but it is a faith that embodies such principles. It even goes so far as to claim America as God's new holy land as the early Native Americans were actually Israelites that came over here before the continent was discovered. Mormonism is a good fit, then, with America's ideals and principles, but Christianity has a little more trouble. The trouble I have with him, at least 'one' of the trouble I have, is that he speaks for all of Christians when he does so, but I don't feel he really understands scripture at all, let alone what our country really needs to do to turn back to God. Ok, that's my rant. I'm out.
  3. It is kind of wierd that he lingered on the site for a while and then vanished in the blink of an eye. My thoughts: As soon as people started getting them in the mail and sharing that there were subtle changes to the face to improve it, more people decided to pick him up. Checking on other boards I know that some people wanted to pick him up late just to exchange heads with the first Ray figure. As for Winston, I have no idea as I, too, was hoping he'd last due to my money being tight.
  4. I really wanted to get a Club Eternia membership along with my Club Ecto, but you hit the nail on the head why I didn't. It's pricey. I appreciate that Matty is releasing so many new figures next year in the MOTUC line, but I just can't afford to pick them all up and I don't really want too. Then end of this year, though, looks ok for me so far.
  5. Received the new "We're Ready to Believe You" Ray Stantz in the mail yesterday and am very impressed. I was excited about the figure anyways, but I am glad to see that the detail on him, his ghost sniffer, and the ghost are top notch. Even better, they made some minor corrections to the head sculpt that improved the likeness to Dan Akroyd.
  6. Just wanted to keep this thread alive with a little bit of news. I was over on the Matty forums and someone received a reply from Toys R Us after asking about when the 4 pack would be available. Toys R Us responded saying that they should be shipping out to be available early September. Either this particular person at TRU does not know what they are talking about or it could be much sooner than most of us thought that we get these figs. I for one hope it's true.
  7. I wonder if they'll reshine that spotlight for the 25th anniversary. Guess it all depends on if we see a GB 3 or not.
  8. I was just sitting on the couch the other day, thinking of all my wonderful GB toys old and new and realized that I had no idea where my Ecto 1A (Ghostbusters II Ecto mobile) from Kenner was. My GB 1 Ecto's part of my display, but the GB 2 one (same mold with different stickers) is probably gone forever! NO! Back to the reason for this topic. We've seen the diecast Ecto 1 released back during the 20th anniversary, along with the Neca products, last Christmas Hallmark provided a wonderful and highly detailed ornament of Ecto 1, and now Hot Wheels has there Ecto 1 starting to show up a little more in stores. But what about the Ecto 1A? Am I alone in thinking that it, too, was an excellent vehicle. Johnny Lightning tackled it a while back and there was a detailed model kit from Ertl way, way back when, but nothing has popped up recently. Personally, I'd be happy if Hallmark, seeing the wonderful success of there sold out Ecto 1's tackled the Ecto 1A for this year. They had an amazing amount of detail packed into that little wheeled wonder. In a dream world they'd eventually release another die cast version of it like 1:21 Ecto a few years back, but I'm not putting money down on it. What are your thoughts? If products of the Ecto 1A came out would you rush out to buy it or does it just not compare to the original? Meanwhile I'll continue to dream of multicolored lights, a ghost flashing me the peace sign, and a gentler reminder from the light sign on top of the car, "We're ready to believe you!"
  9. I finally got a Seaspray today, too. Been eyeing him for a while and my wife convinced me to pick it up to save time when we go to stores. I have a tendency to sit and stare at it with each visit. Nice fig.
  10. Sorry to hear about your troubles RockthePlank. If it's any consolation, I'm sure the Retro figs will be a plenty come the end of this year beginning of the next and I think most people that signed on for Whiplash way in advance didn't get him either. I consider myself pretty lucky to have gotten him right before he sold out and still won't believe it till I find him on my front porch. We've been having internet woes at our new house and I remember the night before thinking, "I hope the internet doesn't go out as I'm ordering." As it turns out as soon as the clock struck 12:00pm...my internet went out and I had to make a mad dash to the church where I work to use the computer there. Man o man do I feel those internet woes brother! Yeah it sucks I wasn't able to get Whiplash, probably just as well since I am getting married in a little over a month and should probably save more for that anyhow. Appriciate the PM too man, but I feel like I will probably need to wait for a re-release for old Whippy, no big deal, I was able to score a battlecat the first time around, so I consider myself lucky anyhow to have that. Your advice about getting that Retro figure won me over on it, it's just too bad it sold out. Probably for the best anyhow, since the voice in the figure was not Lorenzo Music, or even Uncle Joey, just some schmuck, so that whole talking appeal really isn't that appealing, probably best I wait for the regular versions at retail. I can see you now Jangonate, your in your house at noon and the internet goes down, you run to the middle of your house, slide down a firemans pole, get into your converted Ecto-1 and race towards the church, sirens blazing and flashing, you kick down the church doors, proton pack in hand, looking to bust some Holy Spirits, and score a few figures of coarse. If that's how the internet ordeal went down it would be...amazing! If only I had the pole and the converted ecto. Though my wife and I did a children's sermon one Sunday where she was talking about the Holy Ghost and I came running down the aisle, decked out like a Ghostbuster claiming everything was under control and the Ghost would be taken care of in no time.

  12. Keeping this thread going. Ordered Lab Coat Ray today along with Trapjaw and Whiplash. My experience with Matty had been getting progressively better on my end, but today was absolutely atrocious. WSOD occupied my screen for quite a while and when I finally got through to the actual page, Matty continued to refresh my page so I could not even order what I want before the page reset and sent me straight back to WSOD again. All in all, though, I got what I wanted, though I was not able to pick up Winston due to lack of funds. Maybe he'll be up for a little while.
  13. Got my Trapjaw, Whiplash, and good ol' Lab Coat Ray. Did anybody have the following problem like me. I waited on the WSOD for a good while, but when I finally got through and the page loaded, Matty kept refreshing the page, so before I could even put in my order the page would refresh and ultimately lead back to WSOD. First time every for me and the most frustrating thing I encountered.
  14. No problem, and sorry to all for the double post.
  15. Umm, differences in the GB 2 uniforms are as follows: Uniform is a mixture of gray and navy blue, the belt is black with four holes instead of three (look at the belt and you'll know what I'm talking about) with a different clip, instead of the walkie talkie there is a yellow Lifeguard II, there is no hose on the gray uniforms and the kakhi uniform has a clear hose instead of a yellow one in GB 2, and there are very subtle differences in the proton pack that are hard to explain if you haven't done any propping. The computer ribbon is a different color and design, the ion arm has a different type of connector and wire on top, and the crank knob on the box next to the gun mount is black instead of gray. The average person would not even notice, but someone like me that spends way too much time collecting these things would see. Oh, forgot to add that the black gloves went farther up the forearm than in GB 1. Hope this helps some.

  17. Follow this link to see the Ghostbusters 4-pack in the box: http://protoncharging.com/gb/2010/08/13/tru-exclusive-gb2-4-pack-revealed-by-mattel/ I am getting pretty excited about this and I don't usually get that way about repaints.
  18. I hope we see some other way to get those crazy accessories as I can't see a reason why I need two Venkmans.
  19. Sorry for a late post, but I want to put my two cents in. I am 27 yrs old and until the GB line was re-released on Matty I had only bought one 12 inch figure in my lifetime: Ultimate Jango Fett from Attack of the Clones. They are not something I have ever desired to collect, really. But being a big fan I picked up Ray Stantz when he was released. What arrived on my doorstep was simply amazing. Although I'm no expert when it comes to twelve inch bucks or face sculpts I am very, very knowledgeable about my GB props. This figure's accessories are more accurate than I could have hoped for. From the proton pack on his back to the MT500 walkie talkie and holder on his belt, this guy is legit as a Ghostbuster. Since Ray I have been sold on the line and have picked up every one (though money might keep me from getting Winston ). Even my wife, who has seen more props than she ever wanted to, was completely impressed with them. In my opinion, the outfit alone is worth the figure, but if what I just said doesn't interest you or if you are used to collecting more high dollar 12 inchers, you might think differently.
  20. Take in mind this is coming from a GB fanatic whose picked up just about everything so far, 12 inchers included, but I really like the Retro Action Peter. The Real Ghostbusters was my favorite show growing up and favorite toyline along with GI Joe and Ninja Turtles. Though the box he comes in looks like nothing I used to collect, the detail in making it look retro and the colors make me feel like it very well could have existed and I just missed it. The card is great. As for the figure, though it is a collectible line I feel like these are easy figures to play around with, though I had a difficult time standing him up on his own. The accessories are cool, though I am a bit upset that the proton pack is not very accurate to the cartoon. It is actually styled, like many of the accessories to come, like the roleplay toys based on TRGB. Still, it grew on me as I played around with him. I love the face sculpt on Peter Venkman and it is pretty spot on, but the voice sounds nothing like him. This is a bit disappointing, but I didn't buy him to listen to him talk. Also, another little annoying aspect with the voice box is that as I'm putting on or taking off his backpack I cannot help but press the button a few times by accident. Overall, I love him and I cannot wait to see the other three guys and him in his traditional Real Ghostbusters uniform at the end of this year beginning of the next. I also plan on maybe switching out SDCC Venkman's uniform with Ray Stantz, since Ray's looked a little off in the pictures from comic con. If you are a Real Ghostbusters fan whose got the $20 and has been wanting some figures since you were a kid, then I think this line can appeal to you. Still, you might just want to wait until they pop up in stores because they'll be cheaper, you don't have to pay for shipping, and you can actually see them in person first. Hope this helps.
  21. Just remember that the sub does not include the new Egon or the new Venkman. So far, minus the bonus figure, it only includes Louis, court room Venkman, and Winston. We still don't know the other three which I would probably put my money on Vigo based Matty saying they have already begun work on a 12" version. I wonder if the reason they haven't done Gozer or the terror dogs is because of Neca's versions. Since I already have them I wouldn't be very interested in them. I guess the terror dogs would also have to be in some sort of "beast" assortment.
  22. I think they said it was actually $50, it is life sized and it looks like mostly plastic. My hunch is that if it sells well (and I can say as one from the propping community it should sell like hotcakes) there will be more props. I hope the trap is next and, God willing, maybe some form of a proton pack, but that might be a bit far fetched. The crazy thing is that $50 is truly an amazing price for the gizmo. $50 in the prop world would barely get the servos to raise the wings. I actually invested in a RGB PKE meter recently and it got up to $300. Will it look and work a bit better? I certainly hope so, but this movie version will certainly look mighty nice next to it.
  23. Same here, really excited. At first I thought I didn't want the courtroom versions, but seeing as how at least 2 of them will come with a ghost (Pete comes with one of the scoleri bros)and how the unslimed versions and apparently the exclusive figure come with blast streams, I am all pumped up for the line. I was looking at the pics with my wife and made the comment, "I could make a pretty dynamic scene with those blast streams." Can't wait to recreate Slimer's capture, Ray with goggles and manning the trap and Egon shortening his stream so he doesn't burn Venkman's face off. As for the courtroom outfits, I might be a bit more excited about the Scoleri brother's than Venkman, but I certainly don't mind adding him to my collection.
  24. I'm a huge, huge GB fan and thus far I am very excited about the upcoming figures. GB II Uniforms are my favorite and am glad to have those and a Winston with slime pack. Heck, I'm glad they finally pulled out the beams for the proton guns. I'm thinking my SDCC Egon will go back in his nice little resealable box and I'll display the new Egon with tasty PKE. Keep it coming Matty! You've got my money for club Ecto! Just make sure a Vigo with portrait pops up before the end of next year.
  25. Ghostbusters got moved to their own containment unit... SDCC 2010 Ghostbusters Preview Night Looks like the hats are removable on the four pack and that they actually have Lifeguard II's on their belts instead of walkie talkies painted yellow. Still bummed about the hose. It's not supposed to be on the uniforms for GB II. Belts are actually black, too. I'll pick it up now.
