  1. I got a feeling the trucker tried to avoid the crash which is what cause him to flip over & hit the other cars .... really he should have just ran over the moron who ran into him I'm not going to get into any kind of truckers vs people thing cause to me its all the same you got the good & you got the bad on all sides What looks apparent to me is that the trucker realized in that split-second that he could not go anywhere else, but into the median. He faced the choice of either going right over the car, and killing the driver, or putting his trucking to the median and HOPING the median would slow him to a stop. In this case, his truck's velocity was too much and inertia took him over into oncoming traffic.
  2. Whats Kildozer? A 70's tv-movie about a bulldozer on an island that is struck by a strange radioactive meteor and comes to life, and starts killing people. Yes, its stupid.
  3. I disagree to a point on ROC being a fail. Granted the actual movie related stuff was weak in many spots, but some of those figures are quite good. Where ROC really shone was in the latter half of it, when they started exploring stuff outside of the movie. Night Adder, Desert Vipers, the last Ripcord, Ice- Vipers, Charbroil, most of the Arctic figures, City Strike Snake-Eyes, are all very good, I thought. I like most of the reactive-armour figures, and the accelerator suits, not to mention the Paris Pursuit figures, and hey.....what about the Pit Commando? I've read a lot of voices saying they like the first Destro in the line too......so I think a body could go thru the line and pick out quite a few figures that work just fine, and that STILL hold up. For me the big fail was in the vehicles--I only ever willingly bought three from the ROC line ( Night Raven, Mantis and Sharc)and the rest just underwhelmed me. POC seems to have become a natural dove-tail out of ROC, and a logical game-up at the same time.
  4. Those were stunts done for the show, and I say that because I'm certain that none of the North American drivers featured on it make a point of doing those runs on a regular basis. I doubt there's any money on those runs either, again outside of the show--so its pretty much just BS. Take those conditions, and truckers that are not familiar with those roads, and yeah, naturally there will be drama. Heck, I know of a couple of regular runs in BC that would put the pucker-factor into those show-truckers.
  5. Seen a couple of eps, my wife has seen more. She calls BS on it, because the truckers depicted in the show are idiots and stuff that happens therein would NOT happen if they used their heads. The reason for the "dramas" they have is because its either staged for the camera, or the truckers are morons. I suspect a bit of both. I'm told that the truckers on the shows have "reputations" and very few truckers are willing to drive along with them. In conditions like they face, and with the fraternity of truckers as it is.....that is not a good thing. My gal has also had offers to do the same kinds of runs, and turned them down because of the hazards. Frankly just driving in winter conditions throughout the US Midwest is plenty challenging enough....
  6. The biggest two things that cause accidents are drivers ( truckers and 4-wheelers) driving too fast, and not being fulling cognizant of the physics that big trucks operate by. Stuff like being able to see around trucks as they are moving is always a challenge for truckers---which is why the real pros really concentrate on what's around them. Its takes just a split second for a car to move from being clear of a truck, to being in the space its going to occupy, and often it happens in the space of just a glance away from the mirror for a conflict to develop. The trucker that was in the accident with sounds like they were in the wrong, and that is why they didn't talk to you. Classic road conflict example is right turns on a street. Lots of times cars see the truck is in the left-lane and figure they can make the turn in the "now clear" space in front of them........but a big rig has to turn WIDE to make a right turn and some dumbcluck in a car trying to squeeze through there is in the wrong. Like I said, happens a couple of times a day to my wife on the road.
  7. Kids get more immediate visceral stimulation from video games than they do playing on their own. Frankly, its more "real" to them, and thus more compelling. That emotional fuel is what drives the whole video game experience and is why action figures just cannot compete with them. There's two generations now that have been brought up with that sort of media conditioning, and most kids in Western nations now lack the ability for imagination play without any media associations.
  8. I think if you take a look at the ROC figures, and compare them to the POC stuff, you'll see that Hasbro is clearly not aiming POC towards kids......as much. Almost every ROC figure came with a spring-launched-something. Only 4 figures thus far in the POC line have play features of any kind ( Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow-spring waists, Destro-squirt gun, Skydive-spring wings) and one of them are those monstrous launchers. Now, really...........let's be honest here: who would want Hasbro to go back to the "kid stuff" like those big clunky launchers--because that is how they see kids getting into this?? Or would you want the trend in POC to continue......small parts, lots of detail?? If its the latter then kids are not in the equation so much, you (an adult collector) are. I'm going to turn on a bit of blind selfishness and say that I don't care if kids are into Joes or not. I like what POC is doing, I like the direction its taking and I like the LACK of little kid-friendly stuff like spring-powered launchers. If this sort of trend ends up killing the brand a few years down the road.......and we get some well-detailed figures on that road to ruin--well, that's life. I'm happy for what I have, and what I can get as long as it stays like this. Pleasing the kiddies isn't something I care much about at all.
  9. My wife is a trucker, so I have a different perspective on some of this stuff. The first vid is a classic case: the trucker was cut off by the car. That happens DAILY.......... SEVERAL time a day in fact to truckers, and the only reason the above accident happened was because the trucker was trying to avoid having that car end up underneath his truck. Most accidents involving big rigs and cars are not the fault of the truckers. If you want to see what its really like, from a truckers perspective, watch the video on this link: http://www.windshieldcam.com/ It IS a sales video, but its an excellent example of what truckers experience--most of the "educational" stuff in in the latter half of the vid, but its worth seeing.
  10. GIJOE just doesn't reach kids. Its not very compelling in terms of its premise, just good army guys against bad terrorist guys. TF offers robots that change from one thing to another, against evil robots that do the same. SW offers offers sword and sorcery in a sci-fi setting, with really wild character designs and crazy vehicles. GIJOE offers mostly conventional stuff: trucks, copters, planes etc---although futuristic, its all perhaps TOO grounded. Really does ANY GIJOE weapon compare to a lightsaber? Nah, I don't think so....
  11. Patience pays off. There's no reason to pay anything unreasonable for these figures. Case in point, I "waited" on getting the DCUC wave 2 classic Aquaman, for over a year--almost two, in fact. I did manage to get the modern version Aquaman, but that was not the figure I was jonesin' for, and I stated to wonder if I missed my chance on it. I remembered one of the "laws" about collecting: if you want it badly enough, it WILL come to you, and at a price you will be willing to pay. A few months ago a fellow poster here put one up for sale--and I jumped on it. For me, my personal limit on what I would pay depends upon the figure, but usually it tops out around $25 at most. I'm not a completist though, but there are certain essential figures that I just HAVE to have. Still desire doesn't supplant budget sense for me.......and I'm not usually in any rush.
  12. So...........this date thing.... Do you think we should hook WJ up with a blonde, a brunette or a redhead? Or how about bald? Or do y'think he'd do the grey-hair thing ( some gals are naturally like that before the years add up). Glasses? Piercings? Braces? Knee braces?? Girdles? Liposuctions? Colostomy bag?? I mean we can get down to minutiae...........like..........say.........a jawline. Chicks with the right jawline are hawt. (And teeth that can crack bones have their uses....) Yeah, find the right jaw-line for WJ........we can run with this....... @smilepunch@
  13. Renegades figures will be worked into the POC line. There will be NO standalone Renegades toy-line.
  14. Do insure it. All you have to do is inventory it once as a whole, and then keep track of additions and subtractions after that. That will help address any losses. And get a dog to guard the house. That will PREVENT any losses.
  15. There's something weird about that story, because the toys would be really tough to off-load for very much. As said, most thieves nab stuff they can turn over fast--like electronics or jewellery. If this is someone the victim knows, and the perps wants the stuff for themselves.....then its really only a matter of time before the perp gets found out, if they are in their social circle at all. The stuff he's listed as being stolen isn't THAT much in demand. Fencing that stuff on Ebay will be a LOT of work, to gain any capital.....makes no sense to me.
  16. Here ya go... http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/destro That jibes close enough for me! Thanks!
  17. Not sure if that is 100& correct, but it sounds close to: Ad Dexter means from the right, or good--and Ad Sinister means from the left, or evil. I picked that up years ago when I did some squadron crest artwork for my old air cadet squadron.
  18. Just wanted to revisit this thread for a recipe: Had been meaning to find a small item ( and had to just about empty my office closet to find it!) for a couple of weeks now, and and went at it today. The early 25th Anniversary Snake Eyes came with a really nicely detailed satchel , which this latest version surprisingly does not have (and has a weird rigid throwback version of the satchel-booooo!) and I wanted to see how it looked on the new guy. Well, I found the stachel--and yeah.....wow, makes the figure. I placed mine so it lays slung over the left side of the waist. Fitted him with the version 2 head and Timber to complete him. Ultimate Snake Eyes. And while the iron is hot.......Duke, from the same wave. Been mulling him over for a while and happened up some parts in my storage tubs that I thought I would try. Spytroops Crosshair--his vest and belt kit......I put them on and BINGO! There was the Duke I've been looking for! I gave mine POC2 Recondo's SCAR (?) rifle to fill him out into the "hero-role" I've had in my mind. ( and if you are wondering; Crosshair's boonie hat fits POC1 Jungle Duke just perfect)
  19. Yep! http://generalsjoes.com/reviews/2010/exclusives/target_ram_sandstorm.html
  20. On this same note though, if I were single, met a woman, and went over to her house for the first time, and she had Rainbow Bright, Cabbage Patch, and Strawberry Shortcake stuff displayed all over her house, I would probably be a little concerned. @loll@ Are you kidding?? That's the easiest way to get to the line " If you let me play with your toys, I'll let you play with mine!!" @loll@
  21. If you are thinking about entertaining the opposite sex, display it all in one room (that you can close the door on, but NOT the bedroom. Even better if you can set the room up as a kind of study, so its not only for display, but its functional as well. If you don't care what the other half thinks.......then salt the house with stuff in various places, but have most in one or two dedicated rooms. Don't fret much about what other people think, your home is your abode....make it YOUR place. And to that end, I'll share my favourite quote from Archie Goodwin: " We all grow older, we do not necessarily have to grow up".
  22. Adding to the confusion of the rumour is an additional rumour that Robin Williams is being considered for the role of Hugo Strange. I have read that some consider this location scouting matter was a bit of "crossed-wires" and that "Robin" was actually mistaken for "Robin Williams". Who knows, eh?
  23. That "holster" on his left thigh was always a mystery to me too, and I assumed that it was to hold the Uzi, which the original came with. You could sort of wedge it in there but it would stick right out in a awkward manner. I actually checked to see if this POC version could hold the Uzi in the same manner, but nada. This figure would be perfect, if not for my earlier lament........he cannot look up. I think if Hasbro had engineered the figure to look up in a prone shooting position, then this would have launched it into the stratosphere. I'm not sure how it could have been done in this scale, but it would have made this figure just legendary.
  24. He has hair? Lightning bolt tattoos???
