  1. If the ball joints really do look too out of place (they look fine to me), you could always try dyeing the Xevoz or Bionicle parts black before adding them to the figure... Just a thought.

One thing I do notice, is that the parts seem to be interchangable; I have no idea how they'd manage this in vehicle mode, but done right, it might help the collectability. [Maybe these are essentially elaborate Pretenders with interchangable shell parts?]
  3. 'Just saw that Activision has gotten the gaming rights to the franchise, including the movie. Be interesting to see what they do with it... Dare we imagine something along the quality of the Spider-Man movie games?... (Or even the PS2 Armada-based game? Not similar per se, just of a similar level of quality.)
  4. 'Haven't seen many Deluxe figures for awhile... The last ones I picked up were Brimstone (not bad compared to the Scout Class dinobots) and Thunderblast... Still eagerly awaiting Crosswise and Whee... Downshift, at least.
  5. So, what you're saying is, that among the Transformers you despise, are Soundwave and Optimus Prime?! Now that is just wrong. (Or am I misreading this topic entirely?...)
  6. 'Strikes me more as a version of G2 Megatron, somehow, especially with the purple... And yes, I sincerely hope that panel IS supposed to be on his back.
  7. Coby is one of the human characters on the show. In Galaxy Force, apparently Coby gets his own Ramble unit, which has "COBY" printed down one leg and a different head. Hopefully, since Scrapmetal's bio refers to him being a leader of Terrorcon bretheren, we will see a generic army building type repaint... ...So, who do you think will win the space camp trip? ...Just curious.
  8. No damage to the body, eh? Unless those tail-fins are remolded, they look a little warped (heh!) to me... Realistically, this doesn't strike me as being Skywarp so much as Cyclonus, although the use of the grey in robot mode looks nice. Excellion, unsurprisingly, looks very nice.
  9. Since I couldn't find any of the other figures besides Darth Vader (and one Grevious which I passed up on for now - cool character, but I'm not 100% sold on wheel bike mode), I went ahead and got an Obi-Wan Jedi Starfighter which I found at KB Toys (about $2 or so more than at other stores, but haven't seen it at other stores yet. Which is precisely the point.) (I was there looking for the Micromaster trains, which still haven't come out, apparently.) Anyway. I do have one slight problem with the figure I got (besides the smallish arms inherent in the design - the use of the wings for the robe works far better than with Vader, and I like how the cockpit is more accomodating of the mini-Obi), which is that the left leg won't pull out all the way. Considering some of the concerns I've seen voiced here about the durability of the figures, I'm genuinely afraid to keep pulling (I already broke TransMutate's attached leg somehow - I glued it back into place, which is acceptable as that's not a transforming toy per se. When I get the figure with the other leg, I'll glue that one in place and just have the head and arms articulated.)... I have tried to remove the screws and open the leg to see what's going on, but I just don't have a screwdriver that fits the screws precisely and am afraid I'll strip the screws. About all I can do for now is to keep the properly working leg at about the same length as the short one... Any ideas?
  10. Uh, no thanks, I believe I can find one (I was just looking at tfu.info while I was posting this). For now, the concept is all I have; the odds of me finding an Armada Starscream (or Thundercracker or Skywarp, or Universe Ramjet) are pretty slim right now, and I don't really have the expertise for a head swap like this.
  11. Here's a sketch I made up to show what I'd like someone to try... I've seen plenty of customs using Armada Starscream (or Skywarp), so if anyone still had one available, I'd really like to see someone do this: Maybe the antennae would fold forward in jet mode to form sort of guns... (I didn't "color" in most of G1-style Jetfire since I didn't have a reference at the time.)
  12. I'd have to see better images before I really pass judgement, but they do look nice overall. Rumble reminds me a bit of X-Brawn for obvious reasons... and as for the Falcon, it makes far more sense for it to separate to form mechs for Chewbacca AND Han Solo, because it'd be ridiculously large for just Han. (Admittedly, the kibble on the mechs, especially Chewy's thrusterpack, does look a little silly... Of course, Chewy wearing any armor at all seems a little out of place...)
  13. I'll say this much: I didn't expect to be getting as many Cybertron toys as I have been... Mostly, I want to get everything except for the larger repaints. (Ergo, no Galvatron, no Nemesis Breaker, no Sky Shadow... although Dark Crumplezone looks different enough to consider.) I have repeatedly passed up Brushguard and Backstop with impunity, but just picked up Swerve, who isn't as different from Clocker as Swindle is from Hardtop... Oddly, right now Transformers in general are in fairly short supply around here (STL). As for Alternators, I've been collecting mostly new molds... I did pass up Meister as he looked too plain white, but did get Shock(wave). Really not sure about Optimus yet... (Only repaints / remolds I have in that line are Smokescreen / Silverstreak and Side Swipe / Sunstreaker.)
  14. So far, I've only found the Darth Vader one, and here's a quick rundown of my gripes: 1 - The "wing-cape" is awkward as heck, and doesn't do much for the stability of that wing. (Use a bit of nail polish on the pegs to help stabilize it.) 2 - The cockpit in TIE Advance mode doesn't really accomodate the mini Darth too well - he sort of ends up wedged against the windshield, and can get in the way of opening the cockpit. In robot (mech? droid?) mode, he's really just loose in the cockpit. 3 - The missile launchers really aren't useful at all in robot etc. mode. 4 - The missile lightsabers do seem a little bit small to robot etc. mode, but not terribly so. 5 - Again, the price point of $15 is a tad high... Overall though, I particularly actually like the figure itself. Certainly better articulation than most Star Wars figures (cough Force Battlers), and better executed than Marvel's current mech line...
  15. All right as rain, and without the pain! It's the M to the I to the N, back to the I, to the C, getting lost and ending up somewhere near the S before asking for directions and finally getting to the O three hours late, then finally back to the N, where the party's in my mouth and I'm not invited. (How does LiquidMetal DO it, anyway?...) BigBadToyStore has the third series of Mini-Con repaints for preorder, and while I am unimpressed with Series 2 (the Adventure team vs. Destruction team... yawn), I do like what I'm seeing for Series 3, which is the Energon Saber team versus the Emergency Team. This consists of Ramjet vs. Scythe (a white and black Sonar vs. a blue Makeshift), Sunstorm vs. Checkpoint (a yellow and black Runway [which is more white in robot mode] vs. a blue and red Prowl), and Thrust vs. Anti-Blaze (a red and black Jetstorm vs. a grey SWAT-themed Firebo[l]t.) While the other Emergency redecos look similar to the redeco in Energon, Anti-Blaze definitely has his own look here, and the oh-so-frequently used Air Defense molds, especially with their Energon design elements, look quite strong as individual Mini-Cons (although I imagine they'd be one bizarre-looking sword)... http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product...830&mode=retail http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product...831&mode=retail http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product...832&mode=retail Oh, and it's confirmed that the red Hot Shot will be named Excellion (nice touch), and that Galaxy Force Ramble will be known as Scrapmetal here. The preorders also mention two figures with no pictures: Shortround and Repugnus...
  16. Actually, they're supposed to be Armada Smokescreen and Sideswipe. I think it turned out sort of well... except of course that weren't recognized by anyone, meh.
  17. Anyone interested in making these customs real? ...No? I thought they turned out sort of nice, although the first one needs a winch in the front (and maybe for the lights on the grille to be red), and the sword weapon on the second ought to be a lot shorter...
  18. Here's my own take on the hardly original Alpha Trion repaint of Vector Prime; I went more by the G1 MTMTE profile artbook by the late lamented Dreamwave for colors, and minimized resculpting. I did throw a slight curve into the mix, though (thus ruining the metaphor)... (Obviously, this is my original figure, after getting the VP vs Starscream set, swapping out the slightly warped sword.) Alpha Trion's personal assistant, Ariel, with Vector Prime's Minicon Safeguard. A closeup of just Ariel. A fairly high-speed and spirited Minicon, Ariel is a tireless fighter, and far younger than her Autobot charge, who she protects with her powerful ship-mounted cannon and shielding abilities. In vehicle form. Alpha Trion himself in spacecraft mode. Back view of Alpha Trion, where his robot nature is slightly more obvious. Top view of Alpha Trion's vehicle mode. The red and purple turned out a little muddy due to the extensive blackwashing, but pretty effective overall. more... continued... Alpha Trion in robot mode. Believed to be the oldest existing Transformer, more than even Vector Prime. His presence in this timeline is unexplained, but may be related to the rift in space and time left by Unicron's apparent destruction. An attempted closeup of Alpha Trion's face and facial "hair." Fully equipped with Ariel's railgun mode, the Universal Planet Key and the ancient weapon, the Victory Saber. With Vector Prime, whom he gives more of an active role, acting as more of an advisor himself, although will fight hard if challenged. Meeting Voyager Class Overhaul, who I still prefer to call Trailbreaker. Alpha Trion and Ariel battling Runamuck and Runabout (I guess the white one is now Runabout).
  19. Me, I'm just buying the smaller Halo figures, and only figures and vehicles from Halo 1... I got a late start with it, partway into Halo 2 series, what, 3? So far, I have the Slayer Pack Series 1 (from eBay), Slayer Pack Series 2, Ghost w/Grunt (yes, the Grunt isn't Halo 1, but hey, the Ghost), Warthog w/Blue Spartans (full team of 3 now), and the Banshee w/a better Elite figure. I really wish we'd hear more about figures (and vehicles) at this scale. Guess what I'd really like to see?! (Not that it would practical even at a 2.5" figure scale...)
  20. Heyyou on a Xevoz-related board is well-known for his great, elaborate customs with that line (based on Stikfas' ball-and-socket design, with plenty of personality), so when he made up an homage to the Transformers' Optimus Prime, I figured I might as well link to it from this board... http://goldengonzo.proboards29.com/index.c...read=1135460134 I've done a few decent Xevoz customs, but nothing on this scale...
  21. Pretty darn picked over when I got there; just a few dozen Supreme Starscreams (I have no intention of picking up an extra for a Skywarp or Sunstorm repaint - I don't own that much paint), several Mudflaps (aka Demolishor; I really like the figure but already have it) and several Ricochets (aka Stepper, the G1 repaint; might be nice, but even at 25% off of $35, seems a little much.) I used my 20% off coupon on Metroid Prime Pinball, myself... (Can you really use such a coupon on a sale item?)
  22. Can't wait either; I notice that the head shows through the windshield, ala RiD X-Brawn, or dare we say it, Armada Side Swipe. (And possibly Armada Red Alert, although his head can turn to make it less obvious.) I wonder what Crosswise looks like with his head turned in vehicle mode... ...Actually, the TFKenkon site shows the head turned, but I guess the fists are fairly obvious either way. Still looks incredible overall, though.
  23. I don't know, the original seems to have a somewhat more plain look to it... http://www.tfu.info/1996/Maximal/Rhinox/rhinox.htm
  24. First thing that came to mind was the classic Dreamwave lithograph: As for Beast Wars Rhinox, yes, the colors are a pretty good improvement; wouldn't mind picking this one up. Looks a lot more like Rhinox than the predominantly green and grey figure. [Edit: Oh, and I haven't had the pleasure of watching the Beast Wars series per se, but... "maximum rubber burn?!" Is that a reference to a line in the show...?]
