perfect rendition of a range viper caught in blizzard
It's funny you said that, my original idea for this was a cold weather Range Viper, but I changed the name after I painted the mask red, figuring it was a decent update to an Ice Viper.
Thanks for the feedback fella's.

I had a day off yesterday 'cause of all the local flooding, so I spent most of my day working through my Bond boxed sets (I've reached the Roger Moore era...bleh) and putting this guy together.
I'd never done a cold weather customs before. Rather than suffer through multipe layers of white paint, I gave everything a base coat of light gray then went over it in white. I really like how the paint turned out, though I might change the helmet. I tihink I might also make a few more cold ops troopers to go along with him.
-
So here he is. You guys voted, and I listened. I wasn't sure about the camo, but I went with it, and I'm fairly pleased with how it turned out.
I'm calling him an Urban Assault Viper. Not quite an Alley Viper, not quite a regular trooper, sort of an Alley-SAW Viper.
If you don't like how he looks, don't complain to me , I simply listened to the majority.

By empty shell, do you mean a stripped down terrordrome? I have one I'm looking to trade/sell. PM me if you're intersted.

I was going to vote for Night creepers, but after a quick count, the real battle seems to be for second and third.

Alright fellas, it's 10 pm on the east coast and I just took a shot of nyquil (stupid kids at work got me sick), Time to announce the winner.
In a stunning come-from-behind upset, it looks like old-school cobra beat out the jungle theme.
There will be camo and dry brushing. I'm not quite sure how this is all going to work out, but I have a few ideas...
Thanks to everyone who voted and stay tuned, I'll have him finished in a couple of days!
-
Crap, now it's tied. I'll give 'till the end of the night.
-
Yeah, I know thos sleaves aren't 100% accurate to RAH standards, but I had to work with what I had.
So it looks like I'll be making a new jungle operative this weekend... Any suggestions for names?

Dry brushing is going over your paint with a different color to bring out the details or make it look weathered.
No dry brushing:
Dry Brushing:
Also, it may be off topic but, GO DEVILS!!!

One day left to vote. Come on folks, 105 views and 10 votes? No wonder W won.

When I lived at home, my folks would occasionaly question where all the Star Wars figures were coming from. Then I'd reply with this : "Hey, I could be spending my money on crack!". They tolerated it, and even helped it along. Though they never directly bought action figures, they'd always get me books/movies/video games/random collectibles for xmas and birthdays.
When I lived alone, Joes kind of took over my living room. My apartment was tiny (you had to stand in the bedroom to open the refrigerator), but I managed to display an ever growing number of Joes.
Now that I live with my fiance, I've toned down my collection. My display is limited to one bookcase containing select new and old dculpt joes, a few sw figs, and some lego stuff. I'm also allowed to put some of my better customs on the bookshelf in the living room, though not many.
Half of my friends are jealous, the other half think I'm nuts.
One of my aunt's was recently stranded at the airport in Philly, so she took a train to my place in Jersey. She'd never really visited since I moved out (7 years ago), so when I gave her the tour of my place, I saw her eyes kind of glaze over in shock. My mother called me later that night, telling me how she had to explain that what my aunt saw was a mere fraction of my collection . I believe her exact words were soemthing like "Christopher's got a nice place, but it's filled with little men! How does Lori tolerate it?"
Booze, auntie. Lots of booze.

I put this guy together tonight. I know he's a cobra, probably a viper, but can't decide how to paint him up.
I decided I'd paint him by committee, letting all you wonderful people tell me how to make a great cobra operative. The parts are set in stone, but the paint is all up to you guys. I'll run the poll 'till friday, then paint him over the weekend.
HELP ME!!
-
I like the look of this guy, and I fell you onthe whole flash = missed paint thing. I t really irks me when I'm about to post something I've worked on for so long only to notice a couple of spots that stick out like a go-bot in a transformers convention.
Hey, I have that pez despenser.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I can understand why he doesn't scream Firefly to everyone, but I think revSears hit it on the head when he said he has a devils due look. I kind of had the whole 'reloaded' thing going through my head when I put these parts together.
And no, he doesn't have swivel wrists. I lack the skills/tools to accomplish that. @l@

I've been working on this one for a while. I got stuck 'cause I couldn't decide how to finish him ( camo, no camo, dry brushing, clean?). I decided that the parts I used made him look a little more contemporary, so I figured a clean look would be best. I'm not sure that I'm really finished, but here's what I have so far:
After looking at the pics, I need to fix some rubs. Stupid camera. I need new glasses.
Here's both of my Fireflys:

Those are really nice, Deep Six is prolly my fav. Well Done.

I made this guy today 'cause I hit a creaive block with the other figure I was working on. I'd seen this torso used to make vipers before and thought I'd try, but I wanted a different look.
I used to be all about the black and blue look for my cobras, but I've been on kind of a red kick recently, especiall when it looks beaten and worn. I might make a few others to go along with him, if I can find suitable parts...blah, blah, blah. Just look at the pics. Enjoy.
The flash makes the dry brushing look choppy, but it's 10:00 and theres no natural light to be had.

I figured I might as well show my face to the world (or at least a bunch of nerdy toy collectors @smilepunch@ )
My real name is Chris and I'm 26. I was born in Vermont, but I live in NJ. I work in a childrens psychiatric unit (you thought your job was stressful) and I'll be getting married in September .
My screen name came about in college. A fraternity brother of mine (Sigma Phi Epsilon, if you were wondering) wrote the name on a dry erase board outside of my door for no real reason and it became my nickname.
I collected joes throughout my childhood in the glorious '80s, but stopped in mid '90s. I got into star wars pretty heavily during my high school years. I still maintain an interest in sw, but it pales in comparison to my joe collection.
I'm not a completionist, I pretty much collect what I like. I did some minor army building, but kicked that habit when finances got tight. I collect RAH and new sculpt, but my customs are all new sculpt.
The future Mrs. slewis and I at a fraternity banquet.
The bearded look, which I'm currently sporting despite protests from my family/fiance.
My (fraternity) brothers. If we were a band, this would be our albulm cover.

I uploaded some new pics (I promise I'll sort through and get rid of the bad ones), but I still need to flesh out my backstory. I'll get that emailed to you tomorrow.
Edit: pics updated and backstory sent.

interesting and well done, where did the sword come from?
It came in a grab bag of imperfect parts from gtg.
-
I was going to try my hand at some cold-weather customs, but when the parts started coming together, this one started looking a little 'greatest generation'. I loosely based it on the way he looked in the first dreamwave JvTF series.
Sorry if the last pic seems a lttle blurry, I'm working on photo skills (lighting, etc)

Those are pretty cool. I really like the 'combat' sling on the Uzi. That would look good on an mp-5.

I had hoped to go, but my wedding is the week before, so unless I can convine the Mrs. to honeymoon at the Joe-Con, then no.
It's funny, 'cause our wedding was originally scheduled for late June, which would have prevented me from going if the con was still on the 4th, but we had to re-schedule due to problems with the venue, so I figured I'd finally be able to attend a con, then the con was moved to September @grumpy@ .

That Alley Viper is sweet. I have a bunch of those torso's in my fodder bag, I may have to try to extend them. Nice job all around!
