  1. Ents, not Imps . Nash is basically correct on that point. As for the Elves, Sauron just didn't attack Minas Tirith -- though it would seem so in the films. Lothlorien, Rivendell, and the Lonely Mountain were also attacked, and had to be defended (Haldir never comes to the aide of the Rohirrim in Helm's Deep, BTW). He did this to keep the other free peoples of Middle-earth from coming to Gondor's aide (much as he used Saruman for this purpose in Rohan, who failed). They weren't as big a strike, but they were powerful enough to hold them at bay. And it always did strike me as odd that Legolas would be the only elf chosen, since they are such fearsome warriors. I could always see Gandalf looking down at Merry and Pippin and saying, 'You know, Elrond, maybe two more Elves in their place wouldn't be such a bad idea.' But it might have also upset the defense in such places already mentioned, and Legolas was the only one that the elves they were able to spare without weakening themselves. This is just speculation, however, and Tolkien probably never thought of adding any more elves, because that would detract from the friendship that Legolas and Gimli develop.
  2. Damn, Man-3-Faces. A nerdy *I won't repeat the word in case I might offend someone* who has only lost his virginity to his hand? I love your presumptions. Brilliant ones like these usually -- if not always -- reflect the person who says them. It surely doesn't reflect me. As for your opinion, I'm all for it. I just find it hilarious that you could call yourself a fan of the movie and call it corny in the same post! Then, you say you went to see the movie not for the battles (solely) but to see what happened to the characters -- but didn't want to see anything past Mount Doom! Maybe you misworded, and wanted to see what happened to the ring? And yes I've heard of constructive criticism. Saying a movie was corny and too long is not being constructive in the least. Granted, if my neck was cramping from sitting in the front row all night long (which it thankfully was not), I think I would have wanted to leave as well -- I would have also inserted this earlier in my posts to let people know that it wasn't out of personal taste alone that drove me to thinking the movie was way too long. Otherwise, I might have had some compassion for you . And sure, you don't have to love every minute of the movie (I found concerns with the Mount Doom sequence, only to find out that PJ also directed the correct ending *grumblings*). But thinking the ending was corny, and then calling it constructive criticisim? Was it because they were hugging? You seem to have an anger towards this sort of thing @hmmm@ . And, yup, I'm hiding behind my computer . . . just as you are. But why would you be wiping the blood off your knuckles? Is your computer screen that hard? Oh, and one last thing, if my opinion means nothing to you, why do you keep replying? *coughcontradictingcough*
  3. Dude it was corny....are you kidding me?They dragged the ass outta that ending!I almost gotup and left early, I couldnt take it for much longer.Somehow I made it through, probably cause Im a fan. Right. Lines like 'dude . . . it was corny' shows how much of a fan you really are . And fans of movies have to force themselves to sit through till the credits begin. Right . A real fan would not have wanted the movie to end. A real fan would have felt the emotion at the end of the movie, and been sad that there wasn't going to be any more after this. And a real fan would have appreciated the way Peter Jackson did the shire and grey havens sequence; their only gripe with the ending would have been that they wanted to see more of it. Don't give me that garbage that you're a fan, because liking the battles and the battles only doesn't make you one . You're just another person who jumped on the movie bandwagon having never read the books (don't even start, if you think they dragged the @$$ out of the movie ending ) and call yourself a fan @loll@ @loll@ @loll@ . Please . Give all us real fans a break, will you. And why does everyone seem to forget that the ending is for three movies, not one? As if im gonna sit there for another 45 mins.Just to see Sam get married have kids, and Frodo write his damn life story. Then everyone taking another 30 mins to say goodbye to Gandalf,Bilbo, and Frodo as they leave with the elves.I mean my god the movie was over, and if you think Im just there for the battle GET REAL!I wanted to see what happened to the characters, but at the same time I didnt want a whole nother epic on it.So if you think I have to sit through 45 mins of crap I know is going to happen you are a @##@@ idiot.Plus I might add, you can eat a bag of dicks! @smilepunch@ Wow, I never thought I'd see someone revert to a dithering idiot. Did you really time the shire/grey havens part of the ending? Because it felt like no longer than 20 minutes to me at the most. And I love how you keep contradicting yourself. Right, you're there to see what happens to the characters, yet you don't care what happens to them? Tell me, do you think before you type? Or do you just blather out whatever comes to your mind first, and then wipe off all the drool from your keyboard? Just as you're a fan, calling the movie crap @loll@ . Right. You're a big fan @loll@ . And you knew what was going to happen? So did I. That didn't change the fact that I wanted to see it happen. If you were a real fan, you would have, too. Yup, and you made your point, referring to a four letter word and something you severly lack, or possibly never had -- let alone a bag of them! @loll@ @loll@ @loll@ #US1#
  4. why would I be at all disappointed? Like I said, it depends on what you're expecting. Some of what you saw on screen was changed or added (such as the fact that Arwen isn't a big character in the book at all; about the only part she plays in both the movie and book is the wedding at the end). It's also not like contemporary fantasy novels. There's an extreme amount of detail (which is good, because you can really picture Middle-earth, and the movie benefited greatly in this aspect) and there's a lot of dialogue in some places and no action at all. For instance, the Council of Elrond is one of the longest chapters you will ever read -- ever. And all they do in it basically is discuss the ring. But, if you've read Beowulf, then that's sort of along the same lines as what to expect from the books, because Tolkien modled much of the style of it after that story. View it sort of as a bard telling you a fantasy in a high style . Oh, and I left out mercy in my explanation on why Tolkien thought Frodo was a hero. Can't have pity without the act of it, can you? 'It was pity that stayed Bilbo's hand.' -> mercy.
  5. My response wasn't solely directed at those who've only seen the movies, Skarapz. I was more along the lines of people thinking the ending was way too long (along with that whole 'I'm a fan -- but I thought it was corny' garbage). No one's ever watched Braveheart the whole way through? Titanic? Saving Private Ryan, for that matter? I don't get it, I really don't. And once more, how many hours do people spend in front of the tv each day? The computer? But a 3 and a half hour movie is too long? Damn. Guess no one can stand to watch the super bowl. And I really feel sorry for those people who actually go to sport events, and have to sit in plastic for over three hours. I believe you're a fan though if you are going to read the books now that you've seen the movie. Most of the movie fans won't do this. But be warned: you may be disappointed depending on what you expect. But at least you thought enough of the movies to read 'em . Oh, and more spoilers. To clear up the whole hero debate I started with you (well, not really a debate, discussion is more like it), everyone was the hero. Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, even Merry and Pippin were heros in their own rights. But the main heroes are Sam, Frodo, and Gollum. Sam because he carried Frodo and without him 'Frodo sure wouldn't have gotten far' (sooo much truth in that line). Gollum because he actually destroys the ring (in my opinion, making him the main hero because it was the hardest task, and also makes him a tragic hero). And Frodo, for Tolkein at least, because he pitied Gollum. This reflected Tolkien's religous nature, which is all over the books, but subtle. He doesn't go about blarring 'God is good!' Frodo was a big a hero to Tolkien for pitying Gollum as much as he would have been if he actually threw the ring in himself. Since Tolkien was catholic, he drew upon much of their values. So what Frodo did was extrememly important to him. Sort of like, 'love thy enemies' and 'turn the other cheek' and the rest of christian teachings. Just thought a fan would be interested in this .
  6. I thought you were a fan @hmmm@ .
  7. I haven't read the books in a while, so I can't remember if that guy had a name of the top of my head. I'm pretty sure there was an orc captain, with deformities though, and I'm positive that it wasn't gorbag and shagrat. Mithrandir is elvish, and what the elves call Gandalf. It means the Grey Pilgrim. And Minas Tirith always had a seeing stone (at least, after the Numenoreans brought them over after the sinking of Atalante and built Minas Tirith, Osgiliath, etc.). So did Osigiliath, before the city was taken and the palintir fell into the river; Minas Ithil (I could be wrong on the sp) had one too before it became Minas Morgul and the seeing stone was taken by the enemy.

  9. errr who was that, I waited to see all 3 movies before i read the book *spoilers dead ahead!* In the book, Gollum snapped off Frodo's finger, and Frodo fell down in blinding pain. Gollum, in his rapture, began to hop about (you saw this in the movie), but lost his footing and slipped over the edge to his death. Here the movie deviated, and had Frodo get back up for one last struggle , which isn't so bad, because Frodo wasn't going to throw the ring in even if he were to take it back from Gollum (you can see this in his face, even though people might confuse the determined look for something else). He just wanted the ring back. But people who see this version of the ending might only see Frodo using the last of his strength to try get the ring back so he can destroy it, making him appear to them as the hero. Whereas in the book, Gollum was the final hero, even if what he did was unitentional. It was redemption in the greatest sense. That's what made the ending so great, IMO. It wasn't a conventional hero that everyone owed their lives to, but someone who had been tortured the most by the ring, who had no joy other than the ring. It made for a fiting end that they both were destroyed together, and that Smeagol was redeemed in the process. On one additional note, in both movie and book, even had Frodo gotten back the ring, it had such a power in that place that he wouldn't have been able to destroy it, nor would Sam have been able to, for that matter. Gollum's slip was the only possible way, and the movie took away from his due acknowledgment as the true hero. Just my soapbox moment. If you enjoyed the movie ending, there's nothing wrong with that. Like I said, I didn't mind it that much. Just make sure that you know that it's Gollum that saved everyone's bacon! Without him the ring would've never been destroyed! Hope this wasn't too confusing.
  10. They did. Where were you when they showed the ringwraith getting all dressed up in the helmet, and Gandalf talking about the Witch King? Don't tell me you thought Sauron was a ringwraith? Sauron can't take shape until he gets his ring back! He's just the eye! Damn, people need to read the book . . .
  11. I truthfully don't think I understand why you don't think it is, Darth Joe. Can you honestly pick out a battle sequence from the first two movies that was as good or better than any single one in ROTK? If you do, I'd have to disagree, and think you have bad taste @smilepunch@ j/k. Helm's Deep is a skirmish compared to the Battle of the Pelennor fields, and even the 'distraction' before the Black Gates is far better than what people have called the 'best battle scene ever' from TTT (Helm's Deep). Even the Shelob/Sam fight was better, IMO. The only one that can hold up at all with any of the battle scenes IMO is the mines of Moria with the Cave Troll and the Balrog, but that's only because I'm partial to the Balrog. And how where you disinterested in the last 30 mins of the movie? Don't tell me it was your arse, because then I woud think that you couldn't sit through Braveheart and the first Star Wars trilogy in one sitting. You've never watched a marathon before? Come on, buddy. Damn, all the people complaining about their arses from a 3 and a half hour movie (it's not just you, Darth Joe), and yet this country watches tons of hours of tv a week, and stays on the computer for just as long , yet their arse can't take sitting in a chair for 3 1/2 hours to watch a great movie. Aside from arse falling asleep excuses, anyone who felt like they bonded with the characters a little in the first two movies should have not found this boring. In fact, they should have not wanted the movie to end at all. And believe me, they did not drag it on. They left out an entire section of the book called the Scouring of the Shire! And honestly, this was the first of the three theatrical versions that I was really satisfied with. Not once did I think, 'Well, at least the Extended DVD will have that ,' or, 'Why did they change that?' which I did often in the first two. I was as perfect as a movie like this can get when so much of the actual story gets cut out. My only qualm is what happened with the end in Mount Doom and the whole 'Frodo finds the strength to get back up and fight for the ring' crap. It took away from the true hero, IMO, unlike the book. But its very minor, and I do like the way it ended anyway. Oh, and who here loved Denethor as much as I did? I completely forgot what a great character he was. 'Come, sing me a song,' and he's got all this grease and juice running down his chin. Brilliant! And the best line ever! 'That still only counts as one!' LOL!
  12. Yeah, all you need to do is apply a little elbow grease. He's pretty posable everywhere but his torso. I even was able to turn his hands upside down, so that it no longer looks like he's looking for handouts. Seems like the rubber or whatever slid right around the wire inside. I'm even thinking about getting another one to 'play' with (destroy I guess may be a better term; I doubt he'll last that long). I feel like I'm going to break SP Gollum every time I put him into a new pose!
  13. Really wish I could . . . but I have finals that day . . . So I'm going to just have to settle for watching the extended editions at home before I go to the movies . . . *sigh*
  14. Crawling, yes. Crouching . . . depends on what you mean. If you want him squatting as well while he's crouching, no can do, unless you cut the joint further back into the thigh. His knee doesn't even come to a right angle. I personally think you can do more with Gollum the Rubber, who also doesn't have all those ugly cut marks all over him . . .
  15. @hmmm@ hmmmm....not realy, because if that's the case why didn't Sauron bind the armies will in the first LOTR when they attacked him? couldn't he have made the dude stab himself instead of getting his fingers choped of and loseing the ring? i haven't seen any evidence that the ring can control people unless i missed something. i mean yeah, it makes other people wanna kill the wearer for it but i don't see how this benefits the wearer at all. It was a last stand. And those that were fighting were Numenoreans and Elves, who had stronger wills than the ones at present (the elves are waning and the Numenorean blood is all but spent in the line of men). Yet even Numenoreans weren't immune to the ring's power, as you saw with Isildur (who was prideful and thus more vulnerable than the remaining Numenoreans to the ring -- he's the one that put the curse on the Dead Army in ROTK for not coming to the aforementioned battles aid), and much, much later with Boromir. The ring controlled them in their actions. If Sauron regains the ring now, there is no one with a will strong enough left that can stand up to him (except for maybe the Hobbits, who don't seek power ).
  16. $100 is still way too much. There's no way anyone would by that for that price, no matter how detailed or big it is. And I never said the Gandalf horse carriage set was too expensive. Only the ones I listed in my post were.
  17. Really? KBs is always expensive. Wal-mart usually has them the cheapest.
  18. It binds your will to the will of whoever's wearing it. You can see how that can be powerful, can't you? And the ring corrupts the wearer (in part because of the temptation to use it, and the old axion, power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely -- well, the ring is absolute power), so that it cannot be used for good.
  19. LOL! Lunchbox Uruk-hai! @loll@
  20. These are too expensive, especially the Helm's Deep set. I don't know anyone who would buy it for $100 (maybe if it came with Ballista and a bunch of seige-specific Uruks it would be worth it . . . maybe -- I'd only pay $100 for my Balrog). I'm not knocking the ideas, though. Just the prices. Cut ten and fifteen here and there, twenty in some areas, and I think they'd sell just fine. Hobbiton/Council/Weathertop shouldn't be any more than a Palisades playset, IMO. Any more than that is too much. I'd certainly like any other figure from the movie/books that hasn't been announced yet -- Denethor, Gil-galad, Cirdan, etc. But I think with the trilogy rerelease line next year, priced at $5, I'm going to be able to custom a lot of the figures Toy Biz fails to make. An altered Wormtongue would make a great Denethor, while Sauruman of Gandalf would make a decent Radagast the brown. And with Sauruman, you could give Denethor a palintir. The trilogy line is going to be my saving grace . . .
  21. It was reported over at the GD that this is out now. They've confirmed this with some nice shots of it, which have also shown that Toy Biz kept their word and have all new variations on the Hobbits. Some parts look to be rehashed, but it doesn't seem like the usual rehash we get from Toy Biz. And there's a little easter egg on Frodo's hand . . . I hope it's what we all think it is
  22. Wow, nice custom work, ImmortalKings. I really need to start on that . . .
  23. Why the ha? I really didn't think packaging affected cost (MOUT packaging and TMNT packaging is very similar, yet the prices aren't). I am ecstatic over the price drop, and really, really hope that they continue the line for a little longer now than the planned trilogy assortments. With the price at $5.99, they'll be selling like mad.
  24. You wouldn't happen to have the Repaint Trap-Jaw and Repaint Beast Man in your area? I am looking to get those two figures! I haven't really given them a look, being that I don't want them (the one's you want and skeletor are pretty cool repaints, I must admit, but I already have the regular figs -- maybe if they were cheaper *sigh*). I'll give a look the next time I go, but I doubt they'll have anything other than the skeletors and tri-klops by now. Scalpers in my area are a BIG problem. Any half-rare toy is usually gone within a few days.
