  1. I was definitely going to pick up a couple. I imagined the BATS as being a kind of drone soldier and the Data Vipers as being the drone operators somewhere far from the battle field. I was gonna buy 10 of the jungle BATS and a few data vipers for the war room. This was an interesting concept that sparked the imagination. In my opinion that is the mark of a successful figure. It's too bad that they couldn't deliver it to market.
  2. Yes. He still has to come with Poly.
  3. Someone said they wanted to see a "Devil's Due" Shipwreck using the new Snake Eyes mold. (Sorry, I looked back but couldn't find the quote- leave a comment to take credit) I had had this in mind for a while but I've been waiting on finding a second Snake Eyes. Yesterday, SCORE! Snake Eyes and two Shock Troopers!! Enjoy.
  4. Well its official, my wallmart doesn't sell booze. You totally busted me on the poll, Capn. I had not looked at the poll very closely to notice how few had taken part. Yes our niche hobby doesn't matter to most people, unless it's your hobby or your business, like Hasbro, for instance. G I Joe is one of the most enduring brands in the history of toys. Second only to Barbi. And, though I am not an expert on Barbi, Mattel has kept a steady stream of product on shelves nationwide for decades without interruption. And over the last decade or two, they have created product aimed directly to the collector as well. Comparatively, Hasbro has been very inconsistent over the decades allowing the brand to wither away and then reintroducing it in a new incarnation. I would like to hear from Hasbro why they are having such trouble now at wall marts (who should be the perfect corporate partners for the gi joe brand, as I mentioned earlier). What lessons did they take away from the Indiana Jones line? May be a summer blockbuster movie can't sustain a toy line for more than six months, and therefore may not be a good fit with an established toy line. Certainly we shouldn't be pissing on other members since we are all fans. I just don't know who I should be giving the finger to right now, Wall Mart or Hasbro.
  5. Well, most of are adults talking about our favorite toys here, so regardless of bruised egos and hurt feelings, it IS interesting that the unscientific poll on this thread shows that a majority are saying their WM is not carrying Joes. Large retailers, especially WM, can make or break product lines and entire companies when they determine what goes on their shelves. Hasbro is well represented at WM, but as a collector I've been disappointed by the availability of some of my favorite lines. Most famously the Indiana Jones line that imploded when the first waves couldn't clear out to make the later waves available. Now my WM has had empty pegs for a couple months at a time when the line is offering some of the best figures in its history. I like getting figures at local stores because retail is usually cheaper, it's immediate (thrill of the hunt, and all that), and no "shipping" costs added on. But recently its more and more feast or famine at the stores so Im looking on line. I wonder if WM cares, I think Hasbro ought to.
  6. I'm with Devil Bat. It was a new interpretation of G. I. Joe, not faithful to any version before. Some of it was interesting, some had been better in earlier versions. I think a lot of us would have liked to have seen a film more faithful to the Marvel comic. I think it could have had a more serious tone given the parallels to real world military actions right now, fight against terrorism, etc.. As far as the "values" comment, it's clear from the quote in the tni article that she's talking about her own aversion to violence and not about being in a bad movie like some have commented.
  7. I am deeply concerned. At my nearest Wall-Mart they have one narrow row of pegs with GI Joe on the tag sitting empty. Even "The Corps" has three rows. What could possibly be going on here. No offense to any body's political sensibilities, but GI Joe feeds right into Wall-Mart's notorious pro-Americain, pro-military corporate identity. Wether they truly believe in it, or exploit it for profit- I can't understand why they would drop such an iconically American toy franchise. And considering that about 80% of the action figure isle is full of Hasbro merchandise, GI joe is clearly being singled out. TNI, I would greatly appreciate some reporting on this strange circumstance (you guys are the best on the web).
  8. 3 3/4 inch = Action Figure 6 inch or more = Doll VIVA LA 3 3/4 INCH!!! I'm only sort of kidding. I am of the eighties and it is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream to have Indiana Jones leading a small band of G I Joes on an expedition through the Amazon jungle, only to be ambushed by Dr Doom and an army of B.A.T.S. And just when the Joes are about out of ammunition and ideas, The Avengers and X-Men arrive on a spaceship piloted by Han Solo and Chewbacca to level the playing field. But, alas, it was all just a distraction because, meanwhile Darth Vader has delivered a powerful weapon to Destro on the other side of the world... To be continued. Check out Scale Wars or joedios.com for some great crossover pics. I agree that the quality of the MU figures was pretty bad in the beginning, but it is getting better. I wish they would make a new molds for the female figures instead of reusing one mold for all of them. It looks like the Thor and Captain America movies will have both scales to choose from, and the 3 3/4 line looks great. We will see how the articulation is when we actually get them. Ultimately, the downfall of lines like the Iron Man movie line (where every figure is a peg warmer) is that they had 560,000 Iron Man variations (and yet, no Tony Stark) and may be 1 other character. The benefit of smaller scale figures is that you can have a whole world of characters- that's the lesson that Star Wars and G I Joe taught in the eighties. Unbelievably, Hasbro still has trouble with this concept to this day. Overall, between G.I. Joe, Star Wars, Marvel Universe, and various movie lines it's a great time for action figure fans. My big wish right now is that the upcoming Batman and Superman movies gives us a 3 3/4 line.
  9. Sweet! I love the Sentenal vs Wolverine pics. That's a big figure. I think I need to get one.
  10. I don't care if Indy goes to Mars, center of the Earth, Castle Greyskull, whatever. If it gives Hasbro a reason to start up a 3 3/4 inch figure line again I'm all about it. By the way, my kids love Mutt.
  11. I love the idea of a reboot to a franchise. Think of how it has revitalized the Batman movies, or even the newer James Bond films. I really like in "Renegades" how different joes keep popping up in new, reimagined ways. Law & Order, Breaker, and what, that was Serpentor!? Ha Ha! And the backstory of Flint and Duke was really great. And Cobra Commander is NOT incompetent!! Resolute was great and very familiar. But with Renegades, it's like they had a chance to shuffle the deck, and the story and characters seem fresh and in the now. I genuinely don't know what's around the corner. Which is saying a lot cause I've been a fan since the early eighties. Oh, and the animation is gorgeous, get over it.
