  1. Well I saw the movie and I have to say I am really disappointed.

I was one who kept an open mind beforehand, and was really hopeful after all the early fan reviews. However, this movie was just awful.

I think the action was really well done for the most part. The Paris scene turned out to be my favourite in the whole movie.

However, the rest was terrible. The acting, the story, the pacing and the scenery.

I get the whole "in the near future" but the sets and bases were beyond ridiculous.

I give credit to Wayans, Miller and the actor who played SS. Good jobs all around. The rest including Quaid should be embarassed with how they handled the dialogue. Granted, the dialogue was dreadful as well.

Zartan and CC seemed to be on the cusp of being great characters, but never got the chance to be fleshed out further.

I'm Canadian, and this bothered me the most....WHY WAS THE PRESIDENT OF THE USA A BRIT????? GOOD LORD!!! This is 2009, not 1950, you can easily find actors to play the role who either are American or can do a proper US accent.

After all this, I am still going to to and watch it again, and maybe it will improve my opinion.

  2. Man, I love this exclusive. Destro has always been one of my favorites when I was a kid though. I dont see why you guys dont like it. It looks like they were done in all new parts and in a lot of detail with removable mask. They also come in a cool case like thing with a descriptive history. I don't see anything crappy about it. I amuse the criticism is coming mostly from non movie figure fans. I am not going to buy many from the movie line but this one is mine.

It is expensive though but I still bought it and expect it to go up in value after the movie.

Overall it isn't a "bad" exclusive, it just isn't a very interesting one to me personally.

I think the lackluster sales on HTS would back me up on the idea that most people aren't that interested either.

It may represent a small part of the movie (opening?) but in reality it won't be going up in price any time soon.

  3. Personally speaking I find it an underwhelming exclusive.

    It happens.

You make an exclusive and hope the interest is there, if it isn't, you are stuck holding the bag. Ask FP about their JOE exclusives and what is left over.

Fans are tricky, they won't just buy whatever you put out, even though sometimes it is easy to think that way.

There should be a scene in the movie with Destro's ancestor, but frankly I don't think it will make any difference unless the movie is as big a hit as ROTF.

  4. WOW!!!!

Target is definitely going all out for ROC.

We are getting some pretty sweet exclusives, including some ARAH molds making a comeback in original colours, or new colours.

    Black S.N.A.K.E. and Cobra Jetpack!!

Polar Battle Bear (Rockslide) (with ARAH SNOWJOB MOLD!!!!)

Check out the other links to auctions to see packaged shots of the FIREBAT repaint and multipacks.

I wonder if maybe that Ferret we saw with the Crimson Twins might not actually be for the CON, but another 2 pack with the new version?

  5. I have basically given in to the idea of the movie being what it is, an action flick. It hopefully will be good. I'm a little more optimistic after reading the first issue of the movie adaptation.

This isn't our JOE from the 80s, I accept that, just like I did with TFs.

Basically I am hoping for a success at least half as much as ROTF. It means that JOE will get more publicity and more money to produce more toys.

Remember, ROTF is being touted as the worst reviewed film ever to make $400 million dollars or more. So story aside, if it's popular, it's popular.

  6. Sorry I don't have a pic, but I didn't have my phone with me, and I wasn't going to pay $24.99 for a Snake Trax w/Scrap Iron.

So if anyone in Canada can grab a pic and post it to show what I mean, please do.

Anyway, I was at TRU and they had the display for ROC out. Everything was fine until I saw the Snake Trax w/Scrap Iron.

At first I thought it might have been me just misreading it, then maybe it might have been one box, but no.

EVERY Snake Trax box (multilingual) has the name and then "with/avec/con ACRAP IRON!!!"

I don't know why, but I couldn't help but laugh at the mistake. Mostly likely due to my juvenile sense of humour.

As I said, it was on the multilingual boxes, so I don't know if the same mistake will appear on the English only boxes.

  7. The Steelcrusher is worth the money, the Gunship not so much.

The Alpha's are over priced, but The only one I want is the new modded Firebat. It's too cool to pass up, especially with landing gear and missle pods.

    I completely agree.

The Steel Crusher and Gunship are $28.92 here (Canada) and the Panther is $19.92!!! (before tax of course).

    The Night Raven is $48.92!!

While I love the Night Raven, it is a bit overpriced and I can do without the electronics.

However, the Steel Crusher is really worth the money. It is nearly as big as the Night Raven, though not as long of course. It has rubber tires, removable plow and great use of the launchers, and hiding them. Combine that with the Motor Viper (Oops, Nitro Viper) and it is so far the best value for the buck.

  8. I found the vehicles and some other stuff at my local Walmart (Toronto, Canada) this morning.

They had the Night Raven (lots) $48.92

    Gunship (few) $28.92

Steel Crusher APV (1 left) $28.92

Cobat Heroes, Bump n Battlers?, Role Playing Snake Eyes (mask, sword, etc) and Role Playing Flashlight & Communicator/compass (both flip open to reveal projectile launchers)

I only picked up the Steel Crusher. I have to say it is actually pretty cool in person. Some neat gimmicks, and the front plow is removable. Also they have a storage spot for the firigin projectiles so you don't lose them. It actually does say HUMMER on the vehicles. The Nitro Viper is also really nice (in reality it is a Motor Viper from the 80s, but I don't mind).

  9. I stopped worrying about reactions at the trailers. Especially since it was a group obviously into TFs showing up for a midnight show.

There is animosity, for some reason, between the two groups.

I think the timing of the movie might work out well. It is still summer, but late enough that the bigger ones will have been out long enough to be smaller audiences.

  10. I think it all comes down to this one fact, and i know ive said it a million times but G.I.JOE gets NO respect at all ...ever! its the rodney dangerfield of the toy world. from action figures to cartoons to now..movies. the powers that be just plain dont care about it. if it has anything to do with GI JOE they will f@ck it up everytime!

    TM

I have to disagree. They do NOT f@ck it up every time:

If you're talking about the toys, Hasbro gave the 25th line a solid push. We got a LOT of great figures in retro packaging. They got me to buy two of almost everything (TWO! That's unheard of for me). They fixed things we complained about. They rereleased figures we missed. You could argue that Hasbro catered to the fans for the last two years! You can go and point out one or two bumps in the 25th's two year run but overall that line was a success for the fans.

On the cartoon front there was Resolute. Now, not every fan agreed with some of the story line decisions made, but the final product was far from cheap crap and left a lot of people calling for more. Another solid effort made with the GI Joe property.

Hasbro brought their A game on two fronts. By now if GI Joe doesn't get the level of respect from the general public that you think it should get, it probably never will. This movie will not likely be its savior. I'm fine with that. I don't NEED it to be as popular as Star Wars or some other boy's toys. Could really care less actually. I have a staggering amount of figures in my collection and I own every cartoon available on DVD. I'm fine.

That said...time for me to steer away from any and all movie threads. It all becomes the same stuff we've been talking and talking about. So now we find out that Storm Shadow fires a rocket. Oh, boo hoo :)

I'm down with what someone else mentioned earlier: Bring on that GI Joe Monopoly!

I pretty much agree with all your points.

However, there is one thing I think we are all forgetting. In this day and age, we have seen a couple of "reboot" movies (Hulk, upcoming DD).

So maybe the movie won't do well, and we can push for a better second try.

  11. Just thought I would ask.

Between Wolverine, MU, SW, TFs and now GI JOE it seems like they went for quantity over planning for most lines this year. They most likely will report their best year ever in sales, but it seems like it will only be because they pumped out seemingly double the product of previous years.

Do you think SW has suffered because of it? MU? Has any line been hurt by having too much to buy? Or is it just us who suffer with too much choice?? @loll@

  14. If what has come out is believed to be true, some judge has to put a stop to this mad woman.

By most accounts, granted including Hulk's, Linda is on a tear. She seems to be doing everything she can to finish off Terry (Hulk) once and for all. It is pretty pathetic what she is on record as saying about Brooke, her own daughter!!

Current rumours/beliefs are that Hulk will be completely broke by the end of next year at the latest and have to sell whatever remaining proerties/assets he has to continue on. What is Linda doing? Maintaining her lifestyle without sacrificing anything!!!

Seriously, please, some judge out there put a stop to this madness once and for all.
