  1. Probably a technicality vs demand thing. Mattel has the rights to DC characters, and by that, meaning DC proper, probably not to include DC off-shoots like Wildstorm and Vertigo. Second, aside from the collectors, no one really is familiar with those lines. Not that they are familiar with Killer Moth or Despero, etc, but at least you can sneak those in as long as you have bigger names along with them. That'll get the fans like me, who read DC, but not the other two. Also more likely to get a non-reader to pick them up if there is a common association.

That's my theory, anyway. Maybe, if the line continues to be successful, that'll change, but for now, you're best off with hoping DCD goes your way.

Well there are loopholes too, like if say Spider Jerusalem appears in a Superman issue they can use the character b/c in said issue especially if the character is drawn just a bit different. Its silly little things like that.

  2. Mattel is in trouble?

Well then, I will glady be one of those white knight investors to rise up and help them survive.

Just please show me where the DCUC figures are and I will happily plop down plenty of money.

err... wait... you can't actually find them in stores? But I want some and I am ready to buy them... Nope? Still won't help get them into stores?

    uhhhh.. ok

    @rolleye@

Yeah really, point me in the direction of a Nightwing, Robin and a decent paint app of GL and I will help out the failing company. lol.

And actually I think Nonameshmo is pointing out a interesting theory, in this strange economic time what are the chances that a company that mainly produces toys and games would go under? Especially one that has paid out quite a bit of money for master toy licenses for properties like Dark Knight, DCU, and Masters of the Universe.

And while we all kind of figure that Mattel is safe think about a smaller company like Mezco or NECA, especially NECA, who holds the master license for the movie version of Twilight. Everyone says that the movie will do gangbusters but lets say the movie tanks and no one wants the figures if they paid out a bundle and have tons of unpurchased merch laying around that could drive them out of business and so what would happen to the company? Would they get a bailout or could they file chapter 11 or how would that go? Speaking of which does anyone know what became of a toy company known as Resaurus? They made Sonic the Hedgehog figures and Speed Racer figures but went out of business.

  3. Yes, this is a 'fake'. As in, a custom designed for their periodic contests. I could see, though, how someone not paying attention would read the always fictional backstory and get befuddled. That's part of the contest, to provide fake PR for your creation. For example, there has not been a direct-to-FAO series of JLU. That would be silly. And to limit the selection to 2 locations is even moreso.

    False alarm.

(and that thing looks pretty bad, too!)

The head and face on it still makes me laugh. It looks like Peter from Family Guy in one of there flashback/dream sequences.

"Hey Lois, remember when I was cast as Billy Batson in the Captain Marvel tv show?"

    "SHAZAM....heheheheeh"

  4. DHOONIB that figure was for the 5 inch line. WE saw it months early because the 5 inch line is for kids and less detailed. Thats why the joker looks a tad different as well. They wanted to tone down the fright factor. They obviously had concept designs and drawings. SO mattel used those to have the figure ready in time for a proper relase, most likely next month for the dvd. However when it comes to the Movie Master line they want it to be as detailed as possible. SO when the movie had not yet finished working on two-face(last minute changes) mattel could not make the figure in tuime for a release because it wouldn't have been accurate.

I'm not speaking for dhoonib but i think he knows that. what he is sayin is they had that well befor and could have expaned upon it to make the MM figures. In other words if they can do that one in time then why can't they do a MM figure well befor spring of 2009

in time for what? who has it? ovrseas? so would it put you at ease if the MM was done at the sametime as the 5 inch, but the only place that had them was overseas? for all we know they could be done as we speak. i can see it now......"the two face MM is out!" thread gets started, followed by the "crappy MM two face distribution" thread, wrapped up with the "mattel took long enough" thread. im not pointing a certain person, or persons out when i say this, but ALOT of you b!tch waaaay too much. these threads are filled to the top with complaints.

Well yeah they are filled with complaints, while I enjoy the series like everyone else on here people tend to fall into the two categories, blame Mattel and eh they are doing alright. And I'm honest I do blame them for a lot of there strange business practices. But I'm not a economist and I can't rate them for everything they do but as a customer and fan I do think its strange that a full fledged wave 3 is not coming out till way after the dvd, in fact in 09. I think its strange that they can't seem to ship DCU, that very few people are able to buy them. And I think its strange they say they are finally trying to cater to the collector with Matty but there is nothing to buy on the site. Everything is sold out or preorder. When you look at like NECA or even Hasbro, they at least have the product out there. Hasbro doesn't get a flip about the collector but hey they are pushing the merch.

Also Batman27 I know that it was just for the 5 inch line but the reason Mattel is giving for not being able to put the MM Two Face out was b/c they did not have the design early enough. But they had the design early enough for the 5+ line now I know that might have been early drawings given to Mattel b/c I remember back when Batman and Robin came out the Bane that was in the figure line was actually a comic book Bane and he looked nothing like the movie version. So that could be it and I will be glad when it comes out. I'm just saying that I feel that its kind of a weird excuse and you would think that they would want the figure out by Christmas for the shopping season.

I guess at this point I'm a little tired of the production excuses. Like the figures disappearing, and production problems, and distribution problems, and then the Batpod was suppose to be shipping b/c of some interview like a month and a half before it actually hit shelves. And then the whole ordeal people are going through to get DCU. And the part that really boggles my mind is that MM wave one and two were like only a month or two apart. And then wave 3 is like 9 months apart? Doesn't that length of time seem a little odd? Couldn't they have thrown us some other new figures between that time? A Gordon or Rachel Dawes? Maybe Maroni or just Scarecrow in his suit and tie?

I didn't mean for this to turn into a rant and by no means did I intend to piss anyone off. I'm just saying how I feel. If I did make anyone angry, I'm sorry that was not my intent at all.

  5. cool toy review had a Q and A up for mattel and they posted up my question lol,:

Cool Toy Review: When are we going to see a Movie Masters Two-Face? Almost everyone wants to know, so if you can just tell us about it and any other new movie masters you are planning, that would be great! Thank you.

Mattel: Two-Face will be out in Spring of 2009. We were not able to get reference for this character in time for the movie launch, but everyone at Mattel is very excited to get this must have character into the line.

I think I speak for everyone that.... that is a load of crap!!! And by the time spring rolls around alot of people want even be interested any more. Its almost like mattel wants there hotest toy lines to die off. But they continue to make cars line toys and that movie has been well forgottin about. It just makes me wantt to scream. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

actually you dont speak for me at all I am not gonna lose interest in this, and relax it is not that big of a deal just gotta be laid back we will see pics of new movie masters between now and toyfair and nycc which are less than 2 months away

So you dont think there excuses are a load of crap????

    I don't care thats all

Personally I think that just arguing back and forth if you care or if you want lose interest serves no purpose but either way I think that its true that Mattel is pulling something strange here, why would they want to wait till 09 to add to the line? Christmas shopping season should be the target they are going for. It doesn't make any sense why they would want to hold off. And Pooda, were you referring to movie Two Face or like the character in general?

movie two face. everything made from the movie came out before the movie except him..... they didnt even put him on any posters.

True, but we saw cell cam pics of the movie Two Face for the 5+ a few months before the movie came out. We also saw Slade too. So that means they at least had the designs early enough for a decent prototype for the 5+. And plus isn't weird that for a master toy license for a big budget movie, not to have the designs of a major character? I still say it amounts more to bad business decisions from Mattel than lateness on Nolan's staff.

yet they pulled all pics of that fig(at 1st), and its still not in any of the stores that ive been to. plus....we still dont know the hand warner bros. plays in all of this.

True and True, but my point was that they were able to design a prototype that looked good before the movie ever came out. So they got the designs early enough for the 5+ prototype. Now you are right they haven't released him in stores. Again who knows, also WB could be wanting to push the figures back but then again wouldn't the Studio want the merch to come out either during the theatrical run or with the DVD? Not Q1 or Q2 of 09?

I think a lot of you guys have lost some perspective here. yeah it's been ages for US. the collectors, but keeping in mind some of Mattel's production problems COMBINED with the lateness of release material on Two Face, and it's not so hard to understand. My theory is that it was simply too late to maneuver a christmas release, at least one of quality, due to their other company problems.

Therefore why not wait until spring to make something that's not a rushed hack job? There's a lot of time consuming factors some of you aren't considering, they are a big business after all. Not saying I've talked to their CEO and know every little hold up, or even that they're not being lazy, but they are a business and interested in turning profit off of a popular item, namely anything to do with the wildly popular Dark Knight, so I have difficulty believing the execs are sitting back laughing and WANTING to piss off the fans with delays.

Just grow some patience, the spring product should be good.

(As for the other companies putting out Two Face stuff, keep in mind that the breadth of product those companies ship out and make is less than Mattel, so they have greater leisure to put immediate effort into a Two Face product.)

I get what you are saying and you very well could be right but I think what most of us are thinking is that we knew Two Face was going to be in the movie. We knew he was one of the main characters in the movie. But for some reason known only to Mattel they did not secure the rights to the figure early on in the figure making process? He should have second or third on the list. The Thug and Scarecrow should not have come out before his extra crispy scalp did. I can understand Ra's Al Ghul taking a bit of time b/c they are having to secure likeness rights from Liam Neeson (spl?) but we know that Eckhardt gave his consent b/c of the Hot Toys figure. So either way we are still left with the question, what gives?

  10. Mattel's problem: they're too cheap.

They're constantly reusing molds to cut costs (which I don't blame them for at all), but they still remind us (complain) about how expensive it is to make action figures. And now they're taking it too far. They've used the economy and the increased price of plastic/petroleum (and probably some other things I can't think of right now) to justify price hikes across the board, and if that's not bad enough, they're offering repaints instead of new figures for a line that's only had five unique figures in 8 months.

By the way, oil has come back down in price, but is Mattel dropping the prices of their action figures? They sure aren't; they're in fact raising the prices on Infinite Heroes.

If it's too expensive to make figures, don't make them. Let someone else have the license who won't cry about costs, rip us off with price hikes, and then not offer enough/new figures to their loyal customers.

    *rant over*

You mean to tell me you realy bought all those lame ass excuses about plastic and oil price!? People there is not now nor will there ever be a plastic shortage. I realy dont kn ow what the hell Mattel's problem is but i totaly agree with you Eric about this lame attempt at repaints after this long ass MM drought.

I dont even know why i bother. i'm just about done with Mattel, im headed back to the world of DCD after wave 8 of DCUC. I've always wanted a Gentelman Ghost!!! And if i score him, then im gonna call it quits for DCUC and all the rest of Mattel . I'm tired of their B.S.!!! @rambo@

I know man, I didn't buy the whole cost of plastic BS either. I mean come on, there is no problem with Lego or Hasbro and Star Wars producing toys so why is Mattel having so much trouble with the cost of plastic. If there is any shred of truth to the whole plastic thing they need to switch suppliers. But most likely its just another stupid excuse from Mattel on why they can't get figures out there. Lets mark that one under, the Two Face design was held back too late in the figure making process so we can't get one out till 09, and above, MMs have been temporarily recalled due to safety issues.

not true. the price of plastc is the exact reason hasbro gave for the price spike on the MLs.(1st excuse among others) im not saying its not b.s., but gas has effected my business greatly. the cost goes up for 2 reasons, 1.) traveling, and shipping suffers a great deal when a 30.00 gas trip cost 75.00 to complete. so add in how much oil they use in their plastic, and then raise the price of the oil by whatever, and thats a big difference! 2.) they can. it may sound bad, but if they see a chance to get more money....theyre gonna take it. you could seel what you have for cheaper than the comp, but youre gonna miss out on a lotta money....not in business fellas....not in business. anyway....mattel is also releasing two face, harvey dent, bank robbery joker, an the rest hasnt been released.

But see the difference was that Hasbro raised the price while Mattel claims they just can't afford to make as many figures. And the whats interesting is that you can walk down a toy aisle and see tons of toys from other companies, the prices might be a little higher but I don't see less Star Wars toys anywhere but Mattel has virtually no presence anymore unless its Barbie related. I get the whole price hike thing but gas prices are down, where I live its 2.08 a gallon. So you can't tell me Mattel can still pull the oil card BS.

it might have a small amount of truth to it. like you said, you go down the isle and see SW, indy, trans, gi joe, and ML.... those are all hasbro figs. then you have either dcuc, infinate heroes and DK, but thats about it. ban dai has some ben 10 and power rangers, and jackks has the wwe...but thats it. it could all be BS....but why kill yor own sales?

I think Mattel has some issues we do not know about. I think there has been tons of excuses for there goofy activities. But no real reason why there are so few figures on the pegs.

  12. And this is the creepiest quote ever. Congrats

Actually what I said was out of line. I'm a Union Sheet Metal construction worker, and I'm around this kind of humor all day long. Bringing that kind of "humor" to this board is not cool. I edited my post, and if you want to edit your quote for me, that would be cool. If not, I'm sure an MOD will clean it up. :)

I apologize if that offended anyone. #US1#

Don't apologize! That was funny as hell. I nearly peed myself. Yea its a little gross but thats what makes it funny. I'd let her pee on me during the thanksgiveing day parade in front of all the people. hahahaha.....

Yeah man its cool, don't worry about it. As for being peed on during the Macy's Parade that would actually make me tune in to see it b/c that damn thing hasn't been interesting in years. lol

  13. Hell my mouth waters when I see her period

Ewww... Fortunately, this only happens for a couple of days a month.

    Why I oughta .......

Hell, I'd eat her period like Cabernet Sauvignon, but I'm a sick mother f*<#er. :D

  15. Has anyone considered the possibility that the series was scrapped because Nolan

may be doing a 3rd Batman film? I mean when the WB were trying to do the JLA film

Nolan didn't want another interpretation of Batman while he was currently involved with the

Batman franchise and if he's willing to do another, he could possibly be against a Robin

series for the time being. Perhaps its just a stretch but it could be a likely scenario.

I was under the impression that Nolan was dead-set against the idea of Robin in his Bat-universe, so I'm not sure where this would cause a problem.

Here's an idea for CW: instead of trying to make a show about Dick Grayson before anything interesting in his life happened, why not a show about Dick Grayson AFTER he and Batman part ways? As in NIGHTWING? At least then you could still have him be relatively young, you don't have to have Batman or Gotham City involved (except the mandatory mention of them from time to time), you can have cameos by other DC characters who aren't likely to show up in the current slate of films, and you can still resort to the "freak-of-the-week" if you have to (the latter not a recommended idea, of course, but hey, with some creativity they could probably squeeze in appearances by the less realistic Bat-villains like Clayface or Killer Croc). Who knows, it might even last a bit longer than "Birds Of Prey" did.

As far as I know Nolan is still against the concept of Robin in his Batman world, but I'm sure that Nolan may not want anything Batman related

outside his franchise until he's done. WB dropping this may very well mean Nolan is involved in the 3rd one. While I do like the idea of a Nightwing

type show on CW, IMO I think that a Nightwing film has some pretty good potential, and it would be easy to link the film to Nolan's Batman, even

having his Batman team up with Nightwing now that would be a good idea.

Nolan's distaste for the series might have something to do with it but really where could have the show gone? No Batman, no costume, and he is a young acrobat? The show really had no future, and if it follows any sort of Grayson mythos he would have been in a circus and unlike most CW shows he would not be attending high school. What would Dick investigate? Customers messing with elephants, stopping people from getting mauled by the circus lion, keeping the other circus crew from stealing money or something? The show would suck all the way around.

I agree though that Nightwing would be a pretty good series but CW can't keep Smallville alive much longer so Idk if they would go for the idea of Nightwing. After Smallville finally dies who knows if CW will be into another superhero show. But a decent idea though.

  16. LOL you have been a Batman since the 80's :P

Well my "Old Fart" meter didn't kick in until the 90's. @smilepunch@ In the 70's, all I saw were reruns of the 60's Batman show.

lol dude you wrote "I have been a Batman since the 80's" you left out the word "fan" he was laughing b/c none of us could see you putting on the cape and cowl and roaming the rooftops.

I think that CW made the right choice b/c a story about a young circus boy who would be like what, 14 years old, solving crimes. The premise is stupid.

  17. WHERE ARE ANY NEW MOVIE MASTERS FIGURESSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    They're up Mattel's @$$es.

The CEO of Mattel is rolling around in them naked & laughing at us.

Ouch, could you imagine the bruises from the little plastic hands and feet poking your nether regions? Speaking of MM I finally got my Batpod. I love it so damn much!

  18. Instead of giving stores and exclusive wave (like wal-mart, target) or figures (kb toys, tru) why don't they give them to mattycollector since there is nothing on that site at all.

You are probably overlooking what the nature of the term "exclusive" means.

When a retailer solicits a manufacturer for a exclusive product one of the common stipulations is that the product is just that.........exclusive. No-one else can stock that product, except the store that is supposed to sell that product........not even the manufacturer that makes the product can, even if they have their own direct-sell outlets. An agreement is an agreement, and exclusive means to the exclusion of everyone else.

That is why mattycollector cannot sell the exclusives, because then they would not be exclusive.

i understand what an exclusive is the company i work for builds a truckmount for 1 and only 1 of our customers they get a special color, panel cut, pump size. basically they call the shots i was just saying that they should not agree to give exclusive product to one company when they don't sell it. where i work they have our customers who distribute our machines under contract saying how many units they are expected to buy how much to sell them for and if they can service our machines. but wal-mart only carries wave 1 out here i know other people get more in their areas but the distribution for the store sucks, and kb toys well they just don't carry dcuc in any store that i've been to lately. i just think it would have been smater on mattels part to give "exclusive" distribution of certain figures to matty rather than a store who won't distribute it well enough to make it a fair market for everyone.

I agree with you. Exclusives hurt the market in my opinion. I had to drive twenty minutes out of my way to find a Target that I hardly ever go to just to find the Batpod (which I got yesterday, SWEET as hell btw). The worst part is that if you live near a crappy store that will never get in the exclusive or you don't live near that particular store at all, you end up spending tons online to get the figure. And Mattel is really bad with exclusives, there choice of stores and that store's inability to get the figure. I mean should we even bring up the Canadian grocery store MOTU Battle Armor He Man exclusive?
