  1. Idk I think the questions were worded perfectly but Mattel did skirt some issues that should have had follow up questions. Look at the last questions, was it hard to get Bill Murray's approval for Peter, will we see a Peter figure, and when will we see the figures? Answer: yes doing a Peter figure and sending Sony for approval. No answer on when we will see something and no answer on what they did to get Murray to change his mind. I think several follows up should have been asked. Especially in the realm of DCU.

  2. I have never liked full cases b/c you always end up with crazy case assortments I just try to buy what I can for a decent price but yeah 3 proto-batmans are strange. And I know we have discussed this before but who is Mattel targeting with this wave? Can't be kids b/c there is no TDK-esque thing is sight so it has to be collectors and like I said in an earlier post will there be enough merch and shelf space to go around to keep this wave plentiful, since its going to be just the collectors making purchases?

  3. I still think its going to be to late for this line i wish they would have relesed these figures already

I kind of agree, feels like they didn't exactly hit while the iron was hot. I know that there was so much stock out there for the movie but now that the movie and dvd have both been released I hope retailers order enough so that the regular figures don't end up being as scarce as the chases.

  4. You know overall I liked the movie and really I don't think that the Comedian and Sally Jupiter story was all that bad. Trust me I have seen much worse love stories on TV and even worse yet real life stories that was handled much worse than that was. Overall for a "comic book" movie that was damn good. I can't wait to see the uncut version with all the footage back in I bet that will be amazing.

  5. It was "meh".

Just okay, not great, not awful.

I can easily see how someone who has never read the comics, knows nothing of the story or characters would be somewhat confused by the movie.

In some ways, it tries too hard to adhere to the book, and in other ways it succumbs to a movie structure ( which is probably a good thing in the long run).

I think some of the nuances get lost in the translation--the whole Nixon thing came across as puzzling, in a comical way. I know its integral to the story, but I know that a lot of viewers today will find it perplexing. The makeup didn't help.

In some ways, I think it painfully illustrates the great divide between the cinema of film and the "cinema" of comics. The two are NOT the same thing, nor easily exchanged.

Some stuff it just seems to drop the audience in to the middle of, and let's them fend for themselves..........other things it takes pains to carefully address certain aspects, so the audience can clue in as they go.

I think the filmmakers made a valiant attempt at this movie, translated some things quite well, and flubbed some other things. Its an uneven film, quite pretty looking though......that takes a "now-dated" story and tries to sort of make it relevant today.

Damn, ya beat me to it since l also thought it was bleh. The movie is certainly confusing for those who haven't read the comic. For instance, without the brutal attack on NightOwl I, his death just seems out of place. A lot of ppl who never read the comic would think that the bandaged body in the hospital is Moloch. Synder should have removed the death of Hollis or reshot it with maybe Hollis dead in his destroyed living room; it would give the audience that Hollis died because Dan didn't visit him or something. I know that they have filmed the attack on NightOwl I, but they should of removed the death completely for the theatrical ver. The scene without the attack makes it confusing for those who haven't read the graphic novel.

As for my opinion, I don't know why I don't like it. I mean, I didn't feel anything when I watch the movie. When I usually like somethin, I feel emotional. However, with this movie, I feel nothing inside, which most likely means I didn't care for the film.

As for the comic, though, I did feel emotional readin the pages. I guess I like the book better because the character development is so much richer than the movie even if it is faithful. I miss Rorschac's origin on how what made him fight crime

As for the ending, it didn't bothered me that they altered it because the comic book ending is as corny as having Dakseid in a Superman live action film; it would make the audience confused.

l heard that the home release ver will contain more scenes, which may make the movie better.

I realize that the fight scenes are more violent than the book. I mean, the book is very violent, but most of that has to do with the end, which was altered in the movie. l find it strange that Silk Spectre 2 and NightOwl II kills since in the original piece, they were old school fighters

um..Hollis' death isn't in the movie, what version did you see? Hollis shows up at the beginning and that is it.

I liked the movie. And frankly it wasn't that confusing, I took two friends who have never read the graphic novel and they loved it and got it. I think if you sit back and expect the movie to just play out for you you won't get it. But if you think about it while watching it it plays out on a whole other level.

  6. I've never run in a Target but one day I was walking down the action figure aisle and like always my Target never keeps the thing stocked. Huge gaping holes where there should be product, if it was a dog that aisle would have the mange. But anyway there was a little kid sitting all alone in a shopping cart, waiting on his parents to get back I guess. I was walking through and got frustrated and said "This place sucks!". And that kid looked at me really scared like I had said I was going to throw him through the ceiling. At the time I felt bad but now its kind of funny.

  7. Alan Moore doesn't like any movie based on his properties. Mostly because they tend to suck or change too much away. From Hell was a personal project about Jack the Ripper they turned into a normal thriller, LXG well that flick was just strange, and V for Vendetta was just silly. So Moore tends to shy away from Hollywood. He will never see the movie, or so he says.

Also Rebel Dan was a great fighter, even early in the book where Laurie and him fended off a gang of Knottops, he can fight.

  8. Toyrus will have an exclusive Prisoner Rorschach figure available starting tommorow. It will be the series 1 Dc direct figure but with an unmasked head featuring a brusied face. He will also come with a name plate that has his real name and prisoner number on it that goes around his neck. The teaser image is up at thier site.

    http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3382481

Its not really a TRU exclusive. They sell him on BBTS, CMD Store, and MidTown Comics. Idk who told them they were getting exclusive rights to him but even LCS are mostly likely going to get that figure especially if MidTown is getting it.

Would you recommend one to pre-order it? I've not heard about this figure from my LCS. Picked up transluscent Doc Manhattan today, btw.

Sure I recommend Bigbadtoystore.com (BBTS), Midtowncomics.com is pretty good but BBTS is prolly the best. If your LCS isn't getting him go ahead and order from one of the ones I mentioned.

  10. trade paperback

got'cha! you know what. i have had the absolute edt for quite some time now but have been scared to read it. You know that whole "the book was better than the movie" thing. I just want to beable to enjoy the film all for what it worth and give a fair unbias review of it. i feel i can do this better if im "ignorant" to all the lil tid bits that happens in the "TPB" that most likely wont make it to the film. how ever the director did say he and the screen writers did there damnedest to stay as true to the comic as possible (which is why the thing is 161 mins long) YIKES, bring your hemiroid cream LOL.

Tryin not to spoil things, the movie is faithful to the tpb except one part, which l can understand a rewrite, but they changed it in a way which made a lot of those who read the original tpb mad.

my point exactly. i'm tryin to avoid that very pit fall.

Hahah I know what part you are referring to and Queen if you wait till after the movie to read the book I'm curious to hear your opinion on what is changed. And trust me you will know what part we are referring to.

  11. I don't remember seeing Captain Metropolis in there, just Veidt, but then again i might be wrong. Anyways the Bernards are there they have like two cameo scenes one at the beginning and one at the end when the bomb goes off. Just like in the comic they hug and then die.

    from the Watchmen wiki:

It is unknown if Metropolis will appear in the Zack Snyder 2009 Watchmen adaptation as a speaking character or simply in pictures in a flashback. In a recently released picture from Zack Snyder that re-creates the photo taken during a meeting of the Minutemen (featuring all of the original members in costume), Captain Metropolis is featured. The David Hayter draft eliminated him entirely from the plot, and Dan Dreiberg was used as a replacement for the Crimebusters meeting scene, so as to make him more of a leader.

Wonderin if you remember who held the Crimebusters meeting.

I know Ozymandias, Rorscach, Comedian, Silk Spectre, Dr. Manhattan and Nite Owl. I really don't remember seeing Metropolis there. If he was there, then he'd have to have been in the background, because the scene was pretty much focused on Ozy and the Comedian as they were the only two with lines.

Oh. l have no idea they removed lines from that portion of the movie. That blows

Yeah my bad he isn't there. I saw a portion of the scene on movies.yahoo.com still looks cool but sucks Cap Metro isn't there.

  12. Um...actually the whole "simpler time" thing doesn't hold water with early WW. Her creator William Moulton Marston was a bit of a...well freak. He created the lie detector with his assistant who lived with him and his wife in a three way relationship. This is from Marston himself on his wiki article:

Marston's Wonder Woman is often cited as an early example of bondage themes entering popular culture: physical submission appears again and again throughout Marston's comics work, with Wonder Woman and her criminal opponents frequently being tied up or otherwise restrained, and her Amazonian friends engaging in frequent wrestling and bondage play (possibly based on Marston's earlier research studies on sorority initiations). These elements were softened by later writers of the series. Though Marston had described female nature as submissive, in his other writings and interviews he referred to submission to women as a noble and potentially world-saving practice, leading ideally to the establishment of a matriarchy, and did not shy away from the sexual implications of this:

"The only hope for peace is to teach people who are full of pep and unbound force to enjoy being bound ... Only when the control of self by others is more pleasant than the unbound assertion of self in human relationships can we hope for a stable, peaceful human society. ... Giving to others, being controlled by them, submitting to other people cannot possibly be enjoyable without a strong erotic element".[7]

About male readers, he later wrote: "Give them an alluring woman stronger than themselves to submit to, and they'll be proud to become her willing slaves!"[8]

And that was from the original creator, not so much simpler huh?

Thank you for the information but I already know it. Again it doesn't mean anything to what this character has been for X amount of years. Ok so the creator was a known freak, (read it already) can you imagine how many other creators have some odd twist to them, it still doesn't mean anything to what the characters mean, whether they created them or not.

Yes Wonder Woman has been around for quite a long time but its just one of those things that is tucked into her history. Just b/c more than 1 writer has written for her over the years doesn't make that aspect of her history any less true. I mean look at it like this, Spidey has hung out with the first cast of SNL and now Obama but does that make him a fan of Chevy Chase and a democrat? Not really (its possible he is both but never stated for sure) but it does get put into his history as an aspect of the character. Just like Diana living on an island with nothing but women and her creator using sexual overtones. Things change and soften for the character over time based on era and writer but its still part of the history of the said character, and can be pulled out and used based on who is writing for the character.

  13. So got a shipping notice from BBTS for Watchmen series one late last week. Tracked it tonight and my first set will arrive tuesday. So that makes me...excited as all hell. I'm trying to decide if I want the og Nite Owl, Sally Jupiter, and variant Comedian. I have old scarred Comedian (my fave from the book) but that old Nite Owl looks cool.

  14. Hey everybody, i was able to catch an advance screening of Watchment on base tonight. I just finished reading the series last week so everything from that is pretty much fresh in my mind. The movie was awesome, pretty much all comic accurate and such. The one big thing that is different is the ending with no "Giant Squid" attacking New York. Instead, Adrian makes it out to seem like Dr. Manhattan attacks Mankind by attacking various cities (such as New York, London, Paris, Moscow) all at once and blowing up parts of them. Alot of things were omitted but thats expected. Here's a few of them:

-Bernard the Newspaper man and all those characters.

    -The fate of Hollis Mason.

    -Tales of the Black Freighter.

    -Pretty much Ozymandias' entire backround.

There are some other things too, but i can't remember what. Those are the only things i can think of right now. Anways, alot of people were complaining that the movie was pointless cause it led no where and had no action. But keep in mind that these people have probably never heard of the comic. If you read the comic than you would have a greater appreciation for it. I liked it, and my did too without reading the book. She just could stomach some of the things like arms getting cut off and the rape scene. It is very violent though so that's a plus.

l heard about the movie ending but at the time, people said it was rumor. Not shocked that it is true because the squid would be hard for ppl who haven't read the original to stomach.

As for the Bernards and the Black Freighter, they will be included in the black freighter movie as well as in the unrated director's cut. They actually show both the newspaper guy and the comicbook kid in the makin of the watchman movie.

I am wonderin if they removed any of the old heroes from the book. I have heard of a rumor that the superhero who tried to create a new team to fight crime was replaced with owlman II; it was the flashback scene where the Comedian burns the map.

Nope the Minutemen are all there. Captain Metropolis is still the one that tries to gather all the current characters for the Crimebusters (even though I think they are called the Watchmen instead in the movie). Nite Owl is just a participate, its still Veidt and Cap that are wanting to run the group.

  15. Your right. There would be no end to my laughter if Mikey showed up on set with a rug on his head no matter how expensive LOL. BUT! men foolishly dump muli BILLIONS of dollars in to hair restoration each yeah......................so any thing that could match the Luthor fortune might not be that far fetched in terms of being Lex's weakness.

I love the idea of one of the richest men in America showing up with a crappy wig. It would be the greatest episode of the show ever.

  16. I would prefer DCD styled figures but yeah I would get them. They were the first comic heroes when I was a kid (when the show was wwaaaay into reruns) that I remember seeing on TV. So yeah always going to love that version of the characters no matter how campy it is. And if the figures end up coming with accessories, I would like Batman to come with either a huge round bomb or shark repellent. :)

  17. I'm still waiting on series one to arrive to me from BBTS. My LCS was carrying series one but they were way more expensive than they were online. I'm going to try to go to mine today and see if any of series two is there. But if its not I'm not ordering them from LCS. Several comic shops in my area has come and gone and a lot of them have a bad habit of taking all the money of customers who order from them and not deliver the product as they go out of business. Pretty crappy sales practice. If you ask me.

Well if there just takeing your money and not giving it back, and not coming through on he goods, then suga its more than just crappy ITS ILLEGAL!!! CALL THE EFFING POLICE. @redalert@

I was lucky I wasn't one of the people that got scammed in that. See the store filed bankruptcy after taking the money so legally its a gray area. The BBB was called in but since they were under bankruptcy protection there was nothing that could be done and the people were unable to get there cash back. I was just kind of pissed b/c I shopped there and bought a ton of crap and then find out they treated a lot of loyal customers like crap when they do something like run off with the cash.

OH LIKE HELL!! I would have knocked his entire front grill down his throat and told him to go and buy some new teeth on me @fight@

You and several others lol. The whole thing wasn't popular to say the least but that store is gone now and sold a bunch of stuff at auction to help pay some debts. I don't know if they ever settled with the customers. Last I heard it was no. But the current LCS I go to is better and seems to not be in financial ruin so that is a plus. I bought two Watchmen figures today but even still I'm not going to order from them just on the off chance they go greedy on the customers.

  19. Yes, like maybe they were (are) afraid to pick a direction because of the always possible ending of the series. And then each time it's renewed, they're like "Oops! Now what?"

That is prolly the it right there. Every time they get a renewal they are like "Sweet...where do we go now?" I mean the show has no direction to really go in and they are just kind of wandering around in the dark.

  20. ok here the problem I have with the show todate. Ever sence season 4 they have been edgeing in this whole Justice league thing right? But heres the problem with that. This is a show that chronials the exploits of a young Clark Kent, NOT JUSTICE LEAGUE! Now dont get me wrong about all the JL cameos. Each eps was done very cool and with a great budget. The writing was on par too.

but what happened is that when ever Smallville found its self in need of a quick boost pick me up in the rateings dept, (POOF) out come a couple of future members of the JL! As I stated this pleased many fans (myself included), but the "side affects" of this "booster drug writing" came with consequences. Suddenly Smallville was'nt about Smallville or the future Superman. It was now about the future Justice League.

Which takes me back to a comment i made several post ago. CW needs to figure out which "Superman" they want to end with...........the one who's the center pice of the JL with less power? Or will they go with the solo Suprman? The one who's power and might is unparriled and 2nd too none! My vote is for solo Superman.

But if thats the case, then what will they do with all thoese JL chacters that are just floating in limbo?? Smallville needs to learn to give up its crutch and walk on its own!

Hahah Queen I think they will go with neither, they will go with there Clark. The Clark who can do nothing without checking with all his friends and then uses his brain and no powers to solve every problem other than to pop popcorn with his heat vision.

  21. My hope is that season 9 will be the last season. The show has really run its course and it deserves a good ending. I hope they commit to ending the show and not doing that really stupid thing that a lot of producers do when a show nears its end of its life, "Well we feel like instead of ending it like most people thought we would, we decided to bring in a whole new crew of writers. With these new writers we think the show could go on for at least three more seasons." And of course the show gets canceled b/c the ratings have tanked and no resolution is ever met.
