A scene takes place soon after, sequeling the events previously with a much more "humerous" tone. Ace Merril and his rambunctous gang trail down the open road in the suburbian areas of Oregon, using baseball bats they bash down individual mail boxes. This really expresses the teens un settling nature within the film, also expressing their lack of fear for the consequenses of their actions.
Gordie, Chris, Vern and Teddy come across the old junk yard, the sign places upon the fence door reads: "No Tresspassers Keep out", regardless, the boys scour the fence until illegally entering the junk yard. This law was enforced by "Milow Pressman", owner of the junk yard. According to rumour, Milow had trained his dog who went by the name of Chopper, to attack tresspassers in a very specific area of the human anatomy. Our narrator mensions something of Chopper. "A child who had illegally scoured the fence would hear the dreaded cry of, Chopper, Sick balls."
The boys find a small comfortable spot to which Gordie is voted to visit a nearby shop in order to collect supplies for the journey. Upon entrance to the store, he is greeted by the shop keeper, he mentions Gordie's older brother Denny. At this point, a flash back takes place. The Lechance family are all surrounding their dinner table, Mr Lechance speaks of Football and sports to Denny, yet Denny (In an attempt to remove the spotlight from himself to Gordie) Mensions a story which Gordie wrote. Their father dissaproves and rants of how things such as those were filling his head with nonsense. Denny crouches down below Gordie's side and congratulates him on his succesful attempt at writing. This really expresses the bond of the two brothers and how Denny truly is the role of "Hero" in the family, upon his tragic death, Gordie tries hard to immitate his brother and inherit much of his traits. The flash back ends and Gordie departs the store and heads towards the junk yard. Gordie notices his 3 friends fleeing from the scene, Gordie panicks, as stood behind his qauking body was Milow the junk man and his fearsome hound Chopper. Gordie runs as fast as he can, his legs frantically peddling towards the gate, screaming. As Gordie makes it he rushes over the fence and is caught by his fellow peers. "That's Chopper?", it is at this point Gordie discovers that Chopper is nothing more than a friendly hound, simply exagerated to a great extent. "Chopper was my first lesson in the vast difference between myth and reality". The boys tease the dog and soon insult the junk man, Milow retaliates through insulting Teddie's father. Although most would consider him a phycho, or as Milow calls him "Loony". Teddy sees his father as a war hero after storming the beach at Normandy. Teddy bursts into tears, at which point the boys try to comfort him, most notably Chris, he explains the reasons which Teddy should not be sad and keeps conversation, again taking a large role as hero.
Teddy apologises for "Ruining everybodies good time", yet Gordie has some rather intelligent words to speak of, "Maybe going to see a dead kid, shouldn't be a party." The movie takes a much more sombre tone from here on in, almost darkening from the happy go-lucky attitude of the boys to a very dull and upsetting sense.
Charlie and Billy of Ace's gang blab about the location of the dead body, soon Ace and the gang also decide to go searching for the body once more, yet their advantage being the use of a car.
A day later, the boys reach their destination and begin frantically searching for the body. Vern begins screaming and the boys rush to his side, "Look you guys I see him LOOK LOOK!". "Nobody could breath, underneath those bushes was the rest of Ray Brower." The boys had discoverd the body, cut and bloody, perches on a small mound of dirt beneath a few bushes. The train had knocked Ray Brower out of his keds just like it had knocked the life out of his body, the kid wasn't sick, the kid wasn't sleeping, the kid was dead." The music in this scene becomes much more emotional and the camera angle changes to a low down shot of the boys saddend faces. "Let's look for some long branches, we'll build him a tretcher", Chris says. Gordie's reaction to the sight of the dead body triggers his emotional hardship over his brothers death, "Why did Denny have to die Chris?"
Gordie bursts into tears over his fathers lack of affection of him, he longs for his brothers return, during this very emotional scene, Ace and his gang burst into the scene. Holding knives, "You weren't thinking of taking that body were you?" Says Ace, as Chris proclaims that he has "dibs" on the body. 2 of the boys evacuate the area, except Chris who blindly insults Ace's mother. Ace holds a knife to Chris's neck yet the sound of a gun fire is heard in the background. Gordie holds Chris's dads gun to the air and holds it directly at Ace's face. "What are you gonna do shoot us all?" Says Ace is a very worried fashion, Gordie replies with "No Ace, just you". Really inhabiting the greatest role of hero within the film. Chris and Gordie try to set the mood through laughter, and the other 2 boys rejoin the group. "Are we gonna take him?" asks Vern with a very blank expression upon his face, "No" answers Gordie, slowly walking towards Ray's cold bloody body. Teddy is still thinking of fame "But we were supposed to be hero's!" "No Teddy, not this way." Gordie and Chris slowly slower the body into the lake adjacent to the mound in which the boys stood firm upon, watching the body shift through the flowing current.
"Ray Browers body was found, neither our gang nor their gang got any credit for it, we headed home and although many thoughts raced through our minds, we barely spoke. We walked through the night and made it back to castle rock a little past 5 on sunday morning, the day before labour day, we'd only been gone 2 days, but somehow the town seemed different, smaller." The boys take their seperate paths "See ya in School", "See ya in Junior High", as Vern and Teddy make their departures into the early morning sunrise. Gordie and Chris take the same route and escape to the cliff sides. The next entire scene is dominated by our narrator, who talks about the childrens futures. "As time went on we saw less and less of Teddy and Vern, until eventually they became two other faces in the halls". Vern became married out of highschool and had 4 children, he later became the forklift opperator at the local lumber yard, as for Teddy, he tried to join the army several times yet his disfunctional eyes and ear kept him out. Which brings us back to our beggining, "Atourney Chris Chambers Stabbed". Chris enroled in the college courses with Gordie and eventually became a lawyer in his mid 20's. "Chris g
