Over at Bleeding Cool, it's been said this image arrived with the tagline, “You Thought You Knew The Whole Story.” Makes me wonder if the Captain America: Agent of Hydra reveal is the start of a broader storyline. Maybe untold histories full of dirty secrets for all. Or an alternate timeline taking over.

Stan Lee offered his thoughts, when asked during a panel at Megacon... "It's a hell of a clever idea," he said. "I don't know that I would ever have thought of it — for him to be a double agent. It's going to make you curious. It's going to make you want to read the books. They'll probably do a movie based on it. It's a good idea. I think it's crazy, but it's a good idea." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqH871UT-LY

Someone's been busy! (And congrats, all around!)

No doubt, at some point all of Marvel's toys will be put back into their proper places on its shelves-- it's the nature of mainstream comic books. Bigger questions will be how long it takes, how they get there and what they do with it in the meantime. There are theories kicking around the online-verse as to how they're going to get there-- one I've seen pop up a few times has been that it will turn out Red Skull reshaped himself a reality where Cap is with Hydra using a cosmic cube and it will take a cosmic cube to bring him back. I don't know if I buy that one-- there are a lot more efficient ways of world domination than to simply say, "Hey, remember all those times Cap got punchy and wrecked our plans? Well, it all still happened but he totally didn't mean it." And brainwashing vs. true nature has certainly been a big part of the Cap books with the Bucky / Winter Soldier saga. But I'm not sure I buy that either as it would pretty much just serve to put Cap through the same paces as Bucky. Not really sure what else there could be yet but it's been interesting to think about and I hope it leads to some interesting stories along the way-- Superior Spider-Man saw Doctor Octopus take over Peter Parker's body and life for a couple of years and that turned out to be one of the stronger things they've done with those characters in a very long time.

Real life and adulting and the like took over for a lot of people, it seems. And I'd imagine boredom for those left behind. Granted, I'm as guilty as anyone for forgetting about this place a little more and a little more as time went on.

Thinking about this-- depending on how much they play into Cable's comic book back stories, I could see problems with next movie hitting its desired mark. That's a lot for a casual movie-goer, casual comic book fan or casual anyone to take in. However, I wonder if a Deadpool and Cable movie maybe loses something if you DON'T touch on that rather convoluted history. Big part of Cable's charm, for me anyway, is he's not just straight-man to Deadpool, he's straight-man to his own ridiculous origin. I love that. The first movie took a leap of faith and assumed a certain amount of viewer knowledge of the X-Men though and that worked out just fine so maybe there's a happy middle ground to be had. Yeah I agree with all of that. Of course Hollywood is going to try to copy what made Deadpool a success--step one: start slapping R ratings on movies like Dawn of Justice and Wolverine. I'm not saying that is going to automatically make those movies bad, but their motivation for doing that is so obvious. I can imagine Cable being added would make this the ultimate straight man/funny man superhero flick. Yeah Colossus filled that roll the first time out, with success, IMO. But adding Cable tot he mix will probably kick that up to an 11.

Yes. I was a fan of the first series as a kid. I haven't been following the new series super closely-- I just sort of check in from time to time. But I am all for this moment. Makes me wanna get caught up on the series, like, now.

And here's Marvel executive editor Tom Brevoort chatting with Time about it.

I considered spoiler warnings, but it's been a couple of days and this has hit mainstream media. Hopefully I'm not wrecking anyone's life. So in this comic (which hit comic book shops this week)... This happened... And the implication is it's been that way all along. On the always delightful social medias, fans have posted their disgust for the move, saying "75 years of character development all down the drain for a cheap attempt at shock value," and, "Considering that the original authors were Jewish men writing against Nazi oppression, this makes no sense at all." And they posted videos of themselves burning copies of the books and they posted death threats against writer Nick Spencer. Even Chris Evans, who currently plays Cap in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, expressed his surprise, saying, "Hydra?!?!? #sayitaintso." Personally, I'm... intrigued. Cap has been not Cap. He's been Cap again. He's been not Cap again. He's been Cap again... again. He's been dead Cap. He's been resurrected Cap. He's been old Cap. He's been young Cap again. He's been a friggin' werewolf. Now he's Hydra Cap and I'm sure sooner or later he'll be not Hydra Cap again. Probably around the next time he's slated to appear in a Marvel movie. But I wanna know what you folks think about it-- maybe get a bit of much-needed discussion started around these parts.

These are fantastic! I especially like the one with Spidey trying to hold apart Iron Man and Cap. You... should show us more of these.

"Teach me." Doctor strange was always going to be a tough one to get right on the big screen, I think, but since the trailer appeared about a month ago, I've found myself excited for this one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lt-U_t2pUHI

This is the interview Peter Chung mentioned more Aeon Flux. Actually in 2006, not 2005. But still long enough ago that I'm thinking the plan for more Aeon Flux has maybe, sadly, fallen by the wayside.

Lately I've been itching to dig out my dvd set of the 90s MTV Liquid Television shorts and series, Aeon Flux. Weird, but great show. Some might be more familiar with the 2005 live-action movie with Charlize Theron. Also in 2005, Aeon's creator made mention of another animated project for the character but nothing ever came of it-- I wonder what could have been.

80s Toy Expo 2016 is May 1st in Mississauga Ontario
NMX replied to oohyaa's topic in General Toy Talk
How long have these shows been going on for? That's just around the corner from where I used to live-- totally would have been into it if I'd known about it (or if it existed at the time). We're talking about the better part of a decade now, mind you. Also, this has reminded me I will be visiting home for the first time in a couple of years now (WAY too long) in September-- I'm excited. -
Taking the 20+ views as slight sign of a pulse. At least you liked the song? Help a brother out, folks-- trying to generate a little life around the old stomping grounds. Dance with me-- I can see you.

Welcome back! Boards are in a bit of a bad way of late but hopefully there is enough activity to get you caught up. And hey-- if enough people come back maybe this can be an actual place people hang out again.

(I've always been more a comic book guy than a toy guy, myself.)

Well, you might be in luck then, as it looks like the Transformers forum here is one of the few still fairly active ones left.

I think you'll see a LOT of superhero movies trying to chase the Deadpool formula. And I don't think many, if any of them will nail it the same way. Deadpool was great but it was great because it stood out as different. Take that away from it and I don't know how well that film or any of the films trying to emulate it hold up. Not looking to take away from Deadpool being a decent flick-- I liked it very much-- but put out too much of a good thing and, well, you know. Deadpool itself though still has at least one easy cash-in-- I can't imagine any fan wouldn't want to see Cable in the next one.

In case anyone needs to be brought up to speed... Losing Darwyn Cooke means losing an important voice for comic books. And, losing him is a reminder of how very short and very precious life is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Jo1vJe7SZo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29_wZcvJ--E
