  1. Outside play with G.I Joes was almost mandatory in the neighbourhood I grew up in-- all the kids had a lot of 'em, and we assumed battlefields that spanned pretty much everywhere.
  2. My understanding is the second death of the episode (dunno if I need to be at this point but I'm still being cautious of spoilers) was meant to be very comic-accurate. It was, however, hard to watch, I agree. I'm also of the opinion it was a very solid episode-- certain things needed to be established, like Negan's presence moving forward, Rick's unraveling, etc., and it certainly managed to do that. A large part of that, I think, is because they managed to make us care so much about the characters they took from us, as well as the characters now left in the aftermath. I missed a lot of Season Six, so I ended up binge-watching those 16 episodes in the days leading up to Seven Seven. Looking forward to tuning in at least a little more regularly now, though I still have to watch the second episode of this season (that'll be happening tonight most likely).
  3. I suppose they aren't rebirth titles, but the what I've read of DC's Young Animal line has my interest. Doom Patrol and Shade the Changing Girl started off solid. And I'm looking forward to Mother Panic. Haven't had chance to check out Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye yet, but I will.
  4. Fantastic artist and by all accounts a fantastic human being as well.
  5. Still have to check them out for myself, but I've heard good things about the current Power Man and Iron Fist series and Coates' Black Panther. I've also been enjoying Moon Knight since back when Warren Ellis took the character over... he's since been followed by several other writers who've done good things.
  6. Haven't had the time to binge-watch Luke Cage as I was hoping to, but I'm enjoying what I've watched of it so far. As the featurette above suggests, the music is a big part of this show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOvjL1uQThE

    Aeon Flux

Yes, she did. There were also throwbacks to that aspect of Aeon over the course of the half-hour series as well, but in the shorts in was a full-on running gag.
  8. Frank Miller of Dark Knight Returns and Sin City fame sits down for a lengthy interview in front of Kubert School students... It's a quality talk with a lot of stuff covered. If you're an aspiring comic book creator, there's a lot of useful stuff in there. If you're a fan, there's still a lot of goodies to take away. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xo7frKC0N2E
  9. Comics don't go for much on eBay these days-- the asking prices might be high, but the actual selling prices aren't. That's what I'm seeing, anyway. And of course there are going to be exceptions for some stuff. For what you're after, I would think you'd be able to get everything for $1 to $3 per issue. Maybe a few issues here and there slightly higher-- first issue, milestone issues, new creative team kickoffs, important crossover issues and those sorts of things. Buying a complete run could save you some cash. Beyond eBay I imagine you could find many issues from the run individually in comic books store back issue bins for similar prices-- couple bucks each. If there are any major comic book conventions near you, check out the vendors on the final day when they drop their prices-- you might find a large chunk of that run at a very reduced cost.
  10. Well, it seems my choice has been made for me. Huge sale on the digital/downloadable versions of both the basic and EX versions of Manga Studio 5 currently... Basic is $25, EX IS $87. Deal's good for the next couple of days if anyone else is interested. Probably means a new version is imminent (makes sense, given the rebranding that's been happening). But I'll happily take 5 or 5 EX to learn with, especially at that price.
  11. Oh, this is fantastic! I've long been a fan of the various Grendel series and the overarching concepts Matt Wagner filtered in as they progressed... Great to see the original Devil get some custom appreciation.
  12. Glad to see this back-- best of luck to those eligible!
  13. Moon Knight would be at the top of my list for future Netflix/Marvel shows as well. With Blade now once again under Marvel's rights, as far as TV and movies go, I think Netflix could be an excellent home for that one too. I want to see Luke Cage and Iron Fist together in a Heroes for Hire series somewhere down the line also. And given Netflix/Marvel are only doing a limited number of shows at one time, merging Luke Cage and Iron Fist's second seasons into a joint Heroes for Hire series could allow space for, say, Moon Knight or Blade... or something else entirely.
  14. "Brothers like me been waiting for it since I was eight years old, and now it's here and I'm ecstatic." Here's a new featurette on the music of Luke Cage and the relevance of the character and series... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqwLMzghpRw

  16. What a great show! I am also hoping for a second season of Stranger Things, though I kind of hope if they do it, it's with a new storyline and cast. I loved everything about the first season but I wasn't really left feeling like there was much more to tell. The stuff they left unexplained still felt like a natural mystery ending, and not at all out of place with the 80s motif. What I think I'd like to see is more 80s tropes explored under the Stranger Things name.
  17. For those enjoying the glimpse into CaptainTriumph's collection-- consider sharing yours as well in new threads. I'm creating the space here in Comic Book Talk for a little show and tell. Thank you again for sharing, CaptainTriumph-- you've started off what I'm hoping will be a semi-regular feature among our posters. Details here: http://forums.toynewsi.com/topic/2098582-my-collection-threads-show-us-your-stash/
  18. We're going to try something new here in Comic Book Talk-- a semi-regular feature on our posters' comic book collections. The idea stems from our good chap CaptainTriumph, who's been sharing his own collection in what is now the first pinned "My Collection" thread. CaptainTriumph's thread has been a lot of fun, and I'd love to see what the rest of you have. Taking part is easy-- start a thread titled "My Collection" and stick your username in the title somewhere as well. I'll pin it for a while to give you the feature space to share your favourites. How long it stays pinned will be fluid. Maybe you're done and the thread's been dormant a bit, or maybe it's been a while and it's just time someone else had a go. One or two may be pinned at a time, which should be slots a'plenty given our participation is slim at the moment. Get sharing!
  19. Good Lord, episode 3 got me right in the feels. We just finished episode 6 and we're both loving it at this point. Two more to go...
  20. Yeah-- when I headed out west in summer '07 I didn't take much with me.

    Zoom

Described as, "A multi-dimensional interface between a comic book artist, a novelist, and a film director. Each lives in a separate reality but authors a story about one of the others." Here's the trailer... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFRUtSbNp6g
  22. I'm actually surprised they didn't do this sooner. These last couple of years have seen that era of Batman and Robin return in the form of comic books, toys, dvds and blu-rays and all manner of other merchandise. A new story with the surviving cast always felt like a given, and at this point voicing a cartoon is the only way they can pull it off. I've always had a soft spot for this stuff, so I'll happily check this out. It might be bad, it might be good or it might just be like the original-- so bad it's good.
  23. Finally got around to watching the first episode with the girlfriend last night. Definitely has that 80s vibe to it, which probably does more for me than it does for her-- I'm invested, she's intrigued. But we're both in. Amusingly, I had no idea Winona Ryder was among the cast before we cued up the first episode.
